My partner and I have been here twice and both times experienced great service, food and drinks. What amazes me the most though, is the literal novel the servers memorize about the specials. It’s like a 5 minute speech. Both times my partner and I clapped afterwards because we were so impressed, ha!
Can’t speak to the food because they wouldn’t seat us even though there was plenty of open seats and reservations on open table. We were told they were completely sold out for the night and turned away. We then went to open table and was able to book a reservation for 30 minutes later. Wouldn’t recommend paying their prices for the type of service they portray.
What a treat, we are from NYC and spent the night in the Hudson Highlands. Could not imagine a better night out, and served with more class, more tasteful food and better wine. Amarcord is on top of their game. Would outcompete any nyc restaurant, and I dare you to disagree!
Our friend Dennis waxed lyrical over this pork chop at this restaurant in Beacon as we were planning for our trip to Storm King, so we HAD to come and try it for ourselves. Verdict? Pretty darn good. The food didnt feel rushed and mindlessly prepared the way food in the city typically tastes. Is it because the ingredients come fresh from farms nearby in upstate New York? Is it because the chefs had time to put in extra care in preparing the meats and garnishes for the plate? Or is it because the peaceful surroundings created a nice enough ambience to put us in a better mood to enjoy the food? Perhaps all of the above. The pork chop was tender and not over-cooked, and the apples and sweet potatoes conjured tastes of summer. It didnt blow my mind like the ones I had in New Orleans (see @restaurantrebirth and @emerils), but still pretty darn good. Steak was umami without being overly salty. The egg yolk dish was a perfect combination of some of my favorite things - creamy yolk, deep fried skinny potatoes, and juicy shrimp.Definitely will be back to try other things on the menu if Im ever back in Beacon. I was very satisfied.1. Berkshire Pork Chop (mashed sweet potatoes and whiskey flambeed granny smith apples)2. Prime Bone In Ribeye (dry porcini mushroom seasoning, roasted potatoes and brussel sprouts with cranberry & bacon)3. Egg Yolk Carpaccio (sauteed herbed shrimp, shoe string potatoes)4. Grilled Calamari (red wine vinaigrette: lemon, garlic, shallot & diced tomato)5. Complimentary bread with crushed tomato and olive oil
Incredible! Every part of this meal was exceptional . From the bread to dessert every bite was memorable. There’s not enough ways to say you must go here. The staff was knowledgeable and sold the dishes perfectly the atmosphere was calm and romantic we had mussels that were fresh and cooked in the most delicious broth we also had lamb, fettuccine bolganese ,the special of pasta purses with 3 cheese and pear and chocolate dessert heaven go here go here go here
Absolutely delicious. Café Amarcord is a wonderful find in Beacon! We were three for Saturday lunch and dined outside. The bistecca alla Fiorentina was exceptional, as were the Brussels sprout salad, octopus, and burger. They also have a nice wine list and lovely service. I will definitely return when I’m in the area again! So good.
Service was good - the food was just ok. We were told we “couldn’t go wrong” with any pasta dish so we ordered pasta (3 pasta dishes). I was underwhelmed. Definitely something I could have made at home. My friend is gluten free and she had my favorite dish - as in it was the most flavorful (penne with some tomatoes I believe). I think there is something wrong when I prefer a gluten free pasta dish above my own. Wine was good and we still had a really fun time!
The pork chop was quite lovely, nicely cooked and very flavorful. The side apple+cabbage was a bit bitter for my taste and perhaps the apple should be diced a bit into smaller cubes. The other food was ok. The Quail could have used a bit of veg, perhaps some thin carrots and a green, to give the plate some color. Kenny, our server, made the experience quite enjoyable. He was welcoming, attentive and helpful in explaining the menu items. Even checked with the cook/chef regarding a few questions we had had. Thanks. Also, I am giving this place 4 instead of 3 because it has potential and I know how hard restaurants are working right now to train and retain employees and overall operate.
The service was attentive and kind. Our hostess and waitress were both wonderful. The tempura green beans were an amazing appetizer! I really enjoyed my cocktail. They have an excellent gin selection and brought the drink to the table ice cold. The entrees took things for the worse. I ordered halibut and my date ordered shrimp. Both of our proteins were generous portions, but they were very overcooked and couldn’t match the flavor of the appetizer. I was so excited when the large piece of halibut arrived at the table, but every bite was bland in an over poached sort of way.On the whole, I recommend for drinks and apps, but remain very cautious about their seafood entrees.
Went here a couple of months ago and was blown away. We had heard a lot of hype about this place and it lived up to all of it. We sat at the bar and the service and conversation was wonderful. All of the food was great, but I want to point out the spaghetti carbonara with egg yolk was unbelievable. So simple yet delicious. Well done, Cafe Armacord!
I did my research and picked this restaurant to have lunch on the way to Walkway over the Hudson. Certainly we would not miss having a box of Glazed over Donut to take home from this trip. Not sure whats going on, the waitress seemed not pleasant the moment we walked in with that box of donuts? Was she thinking we intended to eat donuts in her restaurant? We have a bottle water for my little one. She seriously asked us no outside food or drink to consume in the restaurant. Did she really need to say that to insult the customer even without any evidence, or even against a 6-yr old kid to drink his own bottle water? Though I have my full respect to people serving in the service industry, we had to walk out after she walked away (to close the back door?) in the middle of my wife ordering lunch! I still believe this could be a good restaurant but definitely not with that lady serving.
So lovely. Was really impressed with the quality and taste of the food. The pasta was very unique and so delicious. Price was very reasonable and I appreciated the variety of wine bottles available for affordable prices. Service was great even during their busiest time. Can’t wait to return
Took my husband for his birthday and we were unfortunately very disappointed. Although cocktails, appetizer salad, and tempura green beans were pretty good (although I felt apps were slightly overpriced), our main courses felt very short. My husband ordered the halibut special. The halibut itself was a quality piece of fish but wasn’t cooked properly: sauce was too sweet, fish was steamed instead of pan-seared so it was flavorless, bok choy was over-cooked. I had the shrimp appetizer as my entree: shrimp were way over cooked and dish lacked complexity.
My wife and I were celebrating our 5th year wedding anniversary. I did some research and after searching around, I decided to try Cafe Amarcord in Beacon.Upon arrival, we were greeted by a hostess where I told him my name for the reservation and upon looking at what’s available, he guided my wife and I to a table in the back of the restaurant. We did not mind this as it was more of a quiet space for my wife and I to have a nice peaceful evening. The waiter gave us a drink menu and as we glanced this over, decided on two drinks, the paper plane and a Negroni. Sad to say, I believe the whiskey had to be cured before serving, took about 15 minutes to receive these drinks. As I glanced around to other tables, drinks came and went before we received ours. The waiter stated it was on its way several times. Maybe it was shipped from Italy? Not sure but my wife and I were not happy, and it didnt change moving forward.Upon starters we ordered the straccatella?? (Creamy cheese) and the grilled calamari, both specials. The calamari was more of a poach, rather than a grilled with a sauce on it that created a slightly sour aftertaste to it. After a few bites, we put it aside for collections. The cheese came with a few tomatoes on the side. The issue with this cheese is its a spread. My wife and I looked at each other perplexed as this usually comes with some sort of bread. We had to ask for some more bread and upon receiving, we did think this was the best dish we had here at Cafe Amarcord.Moving to the main course, I ordered one of the specials of the night, pheasant with pasta and a sauce. The trick was on me as I saw the dish being placed in front of me. I took a bite after receiving freshly ground pepper on it, and the bland taste was unforgiven. I mixed this soup around, as the broth was light and stumbled upon a couple of bay leaves. This was a first to see in any dish I have ordered from any restaurant I have ever dined in. The under seasoned dish was hard to swallow. My wife ordered the the chicken dish off the regular menu. The chicken was slightly on the dryer side. The crust was seasoned with a very heavy hand and was boarderline not edible. More a a jerk or Jamaican chicken. Luckily I can tolerate more spice so we switched dishes. As my wife was gathering another bite from the pasta dish, she found a piece of skin from the pheasant in the bowl that was served. Not the most appetizing bite and turned her off completely the rest of the night. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. I did message Cafe Amarcord prior to arrival when I made the reservation on Opentable saying it was out 5th year wedding anniversary and we expect a great meal with an exceptional experience. That was very far from the reality. To close it out, the waiter did say he will see what can be done with the calamari dish as we did express our disappointment, absolutelynothing and was charged fully. My wife and I have been to many establishments throughout the east coast/Northeast and overseas, this overall experience, food and service was not worth the price or time, especially on an occasion that comes one a year, I correct that, once in a lifetime.
Fantastic. Went here for an anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. Great food quality and great flavor. The specials were also delicious sounding and there were many. The Pork Chop and Sweet Potato with whiskey baked apples was PERFECT. Wine selection was well balanced. The service was perfect. Not too obtrusive but always available. Our waitress was a true professional, every dish memorized and an experienced knowledge of the menu. The noise level was perfect even with a full house. The design and lighting is relaxing without being sleepy. This is one of the few restaurants that I took time to look at the art before leaving. The collection was really impressive. For the quality, service, and ambiance it is worth every penny.
Everything about my experience at Cafe Amarcord was amazing. A friend and I were visiting the Beacon/Cold Spring area for hiking and this place came recommended by a friend. The tables were generously spaced out to follow COVID19 regulations which was great. Our waitress (sorry i forget your name!) was fantastic, great attention to detail but not overbearing. Every single thing we ate was so delicious, great use of different flavors. Highly recommend and cant wait to visit again!
Really, really fine Italian-American restaurant where the emphasis is on fine blends of European seasonings rather than commonly known items. I prefer butter to dipping bread in a small bowl of olive oil. But this bowl had pressed olives, strawberries and tomatoes which I finished off with a spoon. The gravy on the whipped potatoes tasted sweet because the main ingredient was simmered cognac. The medium-well rib-eye was exquisite, with a peppercorn braise that accented its natural flavor. The waitress was the most knowledgeable Ive ever encountered, capable of explaining what we were eating and how it was prepared. The cheesecake dessert was disappointing in that it was tasty, but very small.
Fantastic dinner tonight. First visit for me, repeat for my friend. Great from entrance to exit. We were given seating choices. Our server was knowledgeable and personable, and he capably walked the fine line between attentive and intrusive. We were not rushed, enjoying a leisurely 2+ dining experience. (Others came and went so service was not slow.) The food was absolutely delicious - the starters, the entrees, and the dessert. Pleased they have a parking lot. I intend to dine here again. Strongly recommended!
Not a good meal, bread was budget deli style, not enticing. To start we had burrata with persimmons and pomegranate, underwhelming and persimmons were not flavourful. The duck ragu was distinctly lazy and one dimensional. The whole branzino tasted as if had been previously frozen. We did not indluge in any dessert, hard to say why. The service was good on the other hand. Sad and disappointing restaurant.
Let me start out by saying the food was great and we tipped $30 on a $85 bill - mainly so $10+ can go into their propane tank fund/outdoor heating fund. The food was not worth sitting in the cold for. Maybe it was for my date (they got the veal). The tagliatelle got cold faster and I had to take half of it home.Within 5 minutes of us sitting down our heater turned off - it was a 50 degree night and was getting colder/windier. We were told they had no more tanks and that’s where the convo ended. I mean, my date was making customer service suggestions to me lol I should have tipped him. At the end of the day it felt like a heating con. The heater was off when we got there, then they turned it on for us and then in 10 minutes it went out. It’s like the old salesperson trick, which I find trashy. It would have been nice if they suggested anything to us; do u want to move? Do u want to leave? Do u want your food to go? Anything!Other than that it was great, our waitress was great. But it is getting colder outside. Maybe if propane is in a shortage look at diversifying your heating solutions 🤷🏾♂️
Last night was a great Valentines dinner. The atmosphere was wonderful. We arrived early and were able to sit at their bar for a few drinks before being seated. On top of their regular menu they had over a dozen specials. Our food was cooked to perfection an the presentation was on point. Service was good as well. All in all it was a lil spendy, but well worth every penny. My wife and I had a great time.Well definitely be going back there in the future.
As a lyft driver I ended up in beacon NY dropped passenger and was looking for a place to eat. Well much to my surprise found parking in front of this establishment. I entered and wang to say service was great from beginning to end and food very nice and well presented id go back i recommend it.
This is a high quality spot on Main Street. I went on a Wednesday evening and it was mostly empty. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing. The staff was great. All of the dishes ordered by my party (two appetizers & three entrees) were seafood with the exception of my entree, which was the bone in ribeye. In general, everything was good, and some were great. The scallops appetizer and the seafood stew and tuna entrees were excellent. The mussels appetizer and the lobster mac and cheese were good. My steak was cooked perfectly and was a delicious cut of meat. The fingerling potatoes that came as a side were really spectacular.I didnt get a chance to try any of their pastas, but I honestly wanted every one of them. Nothing boring, but nothing reaching too far in terms of being different either. I look forward to returning for pasta. All in all, a great experience. I did not get a look at the wine list as one of my party was a non-drinker so we elected to not have drinks with dinner, but I certainly will next time. The bill was about $135 for three people with no drinks or dessert.
My parents went here for their 49th Anniversary on August 29, 2018. They had nothing but amazing compliments about their experience. My mom had the Avocado & Hearts of Palm Salad and the Fettuccine & Short Ribs. My dad had the Grilled Calamari and Domestic Loin of Lamb. My dad has been a Chef for years and couldnt stop talking about his food. The service was just as amazing. Im happy to write this review for them because it is nice to see them so happy. Thank you Cafe Amarcord!
Great cuisine, great service every time. I eat here with friends at least once a month and each time, the food is consistently good, service is probably the best in beacon. The wait staff is well trained and very accommodating to customer requests. This is the one restaurant I always recommend to anyone visiting beacon for the first time! It’s getting harder and harder to find good service when you go out to eat in beacon but I never have to worry about it here.
My date and I had a wonderful dinner at Amacord. We both had a leek and potato soup with white truffle oil that was fantastic. She had mushroom raviolis and I have a rediculous veal chop that was probably 2.5 - 3 inches thick. The wait staff is attentive and courteous. Great wine and a cozy romantic atmosphere where make this a place I will go back to.
I went to Amacord today for lunch. The mushroom soup was excellent. Unfortunately the lunch course which was one of the special with shredded pheasant was too salty to eat. The server was very apologetic and it was taken off my bill. This is unusual since I have eaten ar this restaurant many times with rating it high w/only accolades and praise. I would still go back and have another meal...it had to have been a fluke..
Absolutely fantastic! So far, I have not had anything I don’t like. The cantaloupe, prosciutto and burrata is amazing! The Ricotta Ravioli with Truffle & Mushroom, the Fettuccine & Short Ribs, the Garganelli Duck Ragu, the Prime Bone In Ribeye are all too good to describe.
For Italian food, this is my go to restaurant. Everything is prepared authentically and there are pleasant surprises on the menu. Before it was popular, their Burrata was unbelievable. Its in the middle of Main St. in Beacon, they have their own parking, and its a great place for dinner with friends.

2022-01-28Enjoyed food & ambiance, warmly decorated with vintage posters & dim lighting made for cozy dining. Food was excellent, although a bit pricey, but worth it. Service was superior. Reason for the 4 stars, their inability to provide separate checks for my party of 12.

2021-11-25The service was unparalleled! They were able to sit us at the perfect table for our anniversary. The waitress was so attentive, and Made sure that everything was welcoming. The food was exquisite; flavor in every bite. At the end, they gave us Champagne on the house, for our Anniversary. We will be back!

2021-11-23Check the menu before you goBest pork chop I’ve ever had!!!The server said chef recommended it medium, it was closer go MR. I hate sending book back but for the price I was paying I did (plus I was starving)! When it came back it was perfect!! Absolutely delicious, the accoutrements that came with it I can’t speak for because I didn’t even try them. My BF ordered a special, which was pasta with crab meat. He devoured it, so I’d say it was good too!I regret not having taken any other pictures but I was so excited to see Stella Cidrè outside of Europe!Check the menu before you go it’s a very different place, not a run of the mill restaurant. I didn’t think we’d have an issue, but if it wasn’t for the special there would have been nothing my BF Would eat just because the style of cooking and what they prepare and pair main dishes with.Prefect place for drinks but again way overpriced! $12 for my one beer. The wine list as others have mentioned is extensive with something for everyone but again small pour!!It’s very small and quaint so if you don’t want to be closer to other people this isn’t the place for you, as we could hear just about every conversation. On that note make a reservation!!!

2021-08-10Beacon is the best and cutest little town! So much to do and so many places to eat so we had a hard time deciding. We picked Cafe Amarcord and were not disappointed. The inside was beautiful and fancy but we chose outdoor dining off to the side. Our waiter (I think Ken) was pleasant and felt natural, like he knew his stuff and wasnt trying too hard. Our cocktails looked and tasted artisan. I think about $13 each so certainly on the pricey side but my husband and I dont get time out for ourselves too frequently so it was worth the splurge. We got some warm toasty break with this dipping sauce. The bread pretty much serviced as a vessel to get a giant heaping mouthful of the sauce. I asked what was in it and promptly forgot but it was tomato based. Trust me, yummy!!I had the meyer lemon rabbit. I love lemo but have yet to try rabbit. It tasted like chicken and was over polenta and some braised veggies. I honestly wouldve liked even more lemon taste or maybe some capers but I would order it again. My husband had the duck ragu and was very happy. This isnt a place I would go to all the time. It is fancy and pricey but I would certainly go back for an anniversary or special occasion.

2022-01-31The Stuffed Burger is easily the best sit-down restaurant burger in Beacon, possibly in all of Dutchess county. Its the least expensive entree on the menu but is completely mind blowing. I ended up getting the Cuban Mule, which was a drink special and that too was easily the best drink Ive had in Beacon. Unfortunately its not on the regular, but the Cuban Mule really did knock it out of the park. The ambiance is dimly lit and great for a romantic or chill evening, but I understand thats not for everyone. The real reason this is only rated 4 stars instead of 5 is because the dessert was just not up to par with the rest of the food. It just seemed like your regular, run of the mill restaurant dessert options in terms of selection and flavor. Not bad, but certainly not great and nowhere near the quality of the rest of the food.

2021-09-30This is a very poor attempt at charred bread. We were given more of the same when we pointed it out to our waitress. My husbands steak slid around in an excess of pan oil and my rabbit entree was so visually barfy that I had a hard time getting through it.If you come here I would get something safe, like pasta and lots of wine.

2022-05-03My husband and I came here on our anniversary. We talked to three different people upon entering the restaurant, the bartender and two servers, about our reservation. We finally were seated in the back. The server we started out with was very professional and knowledgeable. Everything went smoothly until we got our food. My husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the rabbit. The presentation of the rabbit was very sad. There were many bones. The polenta was sparse. The taste was delicious, I was just scared I was going to choke on bones. My husbands steak was delicious. Our server went missing and appeared 20 min after we got our food to see how we were doing. After that she completely went missing. The bartender then appeared to clear our plates and stated he was not our server. He brought us dessert menus and then asked what we wanted. I said we needed a minute but he said he needed to take our order then. He then seemed to be eaves dropping on another server helping the neighboring table. It than became apparent that she was in training. I said as much in a low voice and the bartender shushed me. Really? He then took our dessert order that was rushed out of us then brought us our dessert with our bill. We would have liked the option to order another cocktail or an espresso but that ended that. We never saw our original server again. We were disappointed because she really was lovely. The bartender should be kept behind the bar.We left and we don’t know if we will ever go back again. The restaurant needs better management and /or training in how to give better service. A classy restaurant experience should be a positive one from the beginning when being welcomed into the restaurant to the end when paying the bill and leaving the restaurant. We did not have this experience. A 16 year anniversary should have felt more special than it did. I would not recommend celebrating here. It would be an ok place to go during the week. But do not go here to make a memory.

2022-05-29Made a reservation for 6:30. Get there and it’s empty indoors but they won’t seat us outdoors because “other reservations requested outside” even though there are 2 empty tables. Bread they give was so stale it’s inedible.Order some cocktail for $14 and it has hair in it. Like a bunch of little hairs. Try to tell the waitress but she won’t check on our table. Got the shaved brussel spouts (bland) and sausage appetizer (average). Didn’t stay for the pasta. Don’t waste your time here.
