Service is a bit slow, but great. Instead of having too many kind of wine, just get better ones. Food is tasty and cooked as order, well seasoning. Enough space for seating with a group, a couple or just alone by the bar. Bathroom is clean at all times. Prices are excellent.
Customer service is great, yet the food is simply mediocre, looks nice for pics but definitely room for alot of improvements in flavor town, starting with the watered down marinera sauce they pair up with their calamari JUST SIMPLY DISCUSTING !! The mofonguito de cangrejo i appreciate them using real crab meat which is a plus ... but the sauce it swims in lacked Je ne sais quoi.. but far from a creole sauce..If you go here make sure to take company as the food may taste better after a few drinks and good conversation 🥴 🤣

This shot has been here for a while and has great Latin food. There are not too many places to get a nice Spanish breakfast but this is a great place to get it. Service is friendly even though it may take about 5 minutes longer than you would think to get just about anything. Is written the slightly longer wait.
1st visit. My salmon was delicious, the rice pilaf was superb. I actually ordered the dish from the menu because of the asparagus, but they switched it to mixed vegetables. I inquired about the switch there was confusion, I didnt mind... the food was good.
When I visit this restaurant, I always enjoy delicious food and attentive service. My friends and I enjoy eating there when were together. I live in the neighborhood. Dont miss it! You wont regret it.
I’m not sure how anyone could give this less than 4 stars, we were greeted upon arrival (went on a Sunday around 6p) and instantly seated. The waiter was busy but did an amazing job checking in on us consistently he was awesome. Beautiful ambiance! very clean and organized, and as for the food … WOW. This was my first time here and I am extremely satisfied, and what’s better than a great birthday dinner! keep up the great work and your chef(s).
El Viejo has established a really wonderful restaurant. Not only is the food amazing and the staff spectacular; but he has captured a quintessential piece of NYC with this restaurant. Sitting here eating dinner, sharing a nice bottle of wine, watching the train roll by as the sun sets; you really feel like you could be in a movie scene. A definite must when visiting NYC.
Love the place and the service. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very nice. Food taste good and have a good variety of traditional Dominican dishes.
Food&drink was delicious, the ambient was really nice, this is the first Latin Cuisine restaurant that i go to and has candles on the tables, clean and neat tables. I live like a couple of blocks away so 100% will go again. Staff was great, the lady even invited us for an anniversary event that was going to be held the week after. Thank you!!Update: I actually went to get some take out food and again it was great.
I ordered delivery at this place but received my order incomplete, but that was not my problem. My problem was the way it was handled. First they hanged the phone on me while I was waiting for some answers. Then when I called again, the manager (a male) was very rude and disrespectful and then his solution to “my problem” (caused by their careless way of handling the food) was (drumrolls): me order and pay again and then cancel once I receive the food. Did you understand that logic? Ok neither did I. thank you, next!
It was late but they were quite busy. I ordered a chicken Quesadilla and it was the worse Ive ever had, it was extremely greasy and the chicken had NO flavor, it wasnt seasoned at all. In fact the chicken tasted like bland roast turkey breast, I was so disappointed. My husband had a BLT but they didnt put any mayo on the sandwich, for some reason they put butter on the toast. We were confused.
The people are courteous, quick service if not full and the food isdelicious.
The food was awesome! Once you come in they check for vaccine card and Id. Then they sit you down ask for your order serve you some delicious bread. I order the monfogo and pork.
If I could give zero stars I would. Called the restaurant for an order for delivery mangu with tres glopes, she repeated the order. Waited an hour for delivery for the order to arrive incomplete. And when I called back she said she had to recharge me for the order of mangu that didn’t arrive !
The food was delish 😋. But service from my waitress was horrible hence the minus 2 stars 🌟. She was rude since we spoke. Then brought out my food late and seperate and cold.
The place is good. Extensive menu. Food is delicious, prices are not bad .Definitely going back but eating in.
We stopped here after Googling a near by Spanish restaurant to eat at post full day of excitement at the Bronx Botanical Gardens near by. The Colonial restaurant & grill is deluxe Latin fusion at its most delicious. Bravo! warm welcoming interior, friendly staff, and amazing food, me and me girlfriend are very satisfied. We got the cuban sandwich, lobster ravioli, mango mojito and passion fruit drink - all excellent. The vibe and music Latin and very mood uplifting. Highly recommend as an experience in local cuisine. For dessert we ordered carrot cake and traditional tres leches cake with a cappuccino. Perfect capstone to our incredible day exploring nature and local cuisine. Bon Appétit, Amigos!
OMG I didnt expect the food to be so good a cab driver recommend it to me an my husband and it was awesome full of flavor and fulfillment. Im definitely going back to try more of there menu.❤❤❤❤❤🍛🍹🎖
Nice place to get drinks and watch the games. They have a variety of foods . They also brought my friend a flan with a sparkling candle in it and sung happy birthday over the speaker system. Very good time there.

The food was absolutely delicious! If you have a craving for a traditional Dominican meal I would definitely recommend coming here and trying their food. The service was nice and friendly. Just dont expect their frozen margaritas to be strong, it is a family oriented restaurant after all. I will definitely be coming back here.

Every time I come here it’s always very disappointing. I must admit I am picky and precise when ordering. My order is hardly ever right. If your not paying attention you as the customer will be losing out. What always brings me back is the amazing food and how warm and cozy it is with beautiful decor but your unprofessional, slow and overly loud staff needs additional training!!!! Pay attention to the customer and there needs and wants we are spending our money. Where is the manager here? Get it together!!!I can’t say I won’t be back just not in the morning.
Service isn’t the same as it used to be unfortunately. I ordered two waters and I never got them, we had our own water bottles so it was fine but they then charged us for it and my daughter noticed took it off. My soup also wasn’t too good. Overall service and quality of food Used to be a lot better .
Hate to do it, but.. what has this restaurant become? I’ve been coming here since they opened many years ago, and their customer service truly sucks during the last few years.. During the early evening hours, sometimes, they only have one waitress taking care of all the tables AND making the cocktails. How are you to cater to the tables if you’re all over the place / bar? They’d rather the negative reviews than have extra paid staff on-board? As much as I want to support local small businesses, this is one I’m really considering to opt out of supporting..
I LOVE cafe colonial! The service is always great and the food is sooo good. I had the crab mofongo and it was delicious 😋 the quesadilla was good too but if you visit you better try any mofongo, all of them are cooked to perfection! The drinks are also amazing try the Dominican kiss (lots of alcohol) or the mojitos (passion fruit is the BEST).

Food is not no big thing but these women that work here are the most unpleasant individuals I have ever encountered in any restaurant I have been to. Lucky for them my mother raised me right.
The food is very tasty but they give mostly rice.
I drove 30 minutes to come to this restaurant. The inside of the restaurant seemed nice and the reviews seemed good also. However, upon walking in the host said my friends service dog wasn’t allowed. My friend said he had the paperwork and the dog is allowed. The worker then went to get the manager. She came and also said dogs aren’t allowed, she said we can sit outside only. We have never encountered this discriminatory practice ever at a restaurant. Since we were unwelcomed and didn’t want our food to be spit in, we decided we shouldn’t fight them on it anymore and just take our business elsewhere.

LITERALLY THE BEST CHICKEN MONFONGO I’VE EVER HAD!!! The afternoon chef should be highly praised. It was the crunchy, well seasoned skin of the chicken making every single bite heavenly, for me!!!! I WILL NOT ORDER MONFONGO FROM ANYWHERE

This is literally my second home. This is where my kids and i meet to eat, drink, and catch up. We go about 3 times a week and we love it there. Great food, friendly environment.

I found a worm inside of my food.. I ordered pork chops and rice not a side of worms never again ..I have a picture of it I wish I could post it on here.
Ordered the lunch special of beef stew that is on their lunch menu, got charged $11, I asked if a drink comes with the meal (water) she said yes, was then charged $1.50 for the water. The portion of rice is big and the beans were mostly juice and I got 5 pieces of chewy beef, all separate, Never again, not worth the $15 I spent!!!PLEASE HAVE SERVERS THAT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FOR!! I ate some and gave the rest to a homeless person, hope I didnt offend her.

***SCAM Overpriced spanish food! For 1 you guys charge as if your food is made to order wich the majority is not. It is still take out spanish food that sit on a steamer that you serve when people order. Then they charge you an extra 3.99% if you pay with a card wich again they fail to tell you till after they charge your card. No legit restaurant in America does this and expect customers to come back. WARNING they automatically add 15% of your bill as for gratituty tip disregarding how you feel about their service but the biggest thing is that when they bring you bill back for you to sign they dont tell you this and add a big blank gratituty line for you to double tip. Unbelievable. I felt scam and hutssle leaving this place. I have never in my life paid 70 dollars for 2 spanish lunch that consist of rice and bean from a steamer. BOTTOM LINE OVER PRICED TAKE OUT FOOD 10-12 Dollar plates on a good day not over 20 like they charged me and challenge them to denied that everything on here is not true.
The best Spanish food restaurant in NYC, with a variety of dishes on the menu to choose from. We ordered the duo mofongo with shrimp and churasco, it was amazingly delicious!! I dare to say it’s the best mofongo in NYC, my compliments to the chef. We also ordered the mojito drinks perfectly mixed and delicious and unlike many other restaurants in NYC they are not cheap with the alcohol. Our waitress Lisett was quick to bring our food & drinks, very professional, courteous and attentive to all our needs, we will definitely be back soon.

WOW! LOVED IT!!! I went to national discount tires down the block and left the car to be serviced as I went off to get food. I walked by staples and found this gem on the corner. The food!? AMAZING & FLAVORFUL. The service!? EXCELLENT. COVID 19 safety procedures!? BEYOND SMOOTH I felt safe eating here. I will definitely be returning here to taste more of this beautiful menu.
Food was pretty good, except for the flan(tasted old & was very dry) everything tasted freshly done. Theyre also doing indoor dinning here. I did take out which got a bit confusing cause only 1 can take the order & the other only cashes you out but they stand side by side & theyll get frustrated if you arent sure who does what...
The food is amazing the service is A1. I had the T-bone steak OMG cooked perfect and not too salty. We had the octopus 🐙 for an appetizer It was amazing. I will def be coming back. The prices are very reasonable not expensive at all.
Poor attention to the customers. Me and my family, must have sat down and waited for 20 minutes before the waitress came to ask us for our meals. We asked for cream for the coffee and they broad a sugar bottle to my diabetic mother in law. She accidentally pour it in the coffee thinking it was cream. The waitress catches an attitude when you ask why is it taking so long for 1 of the 4 dishes to come out, since 3 of them were already served. Had to ask for plates for the garlic bread. Theyre never around, you have to call them. They dont check up on you. Had to ask to replenish the water. Then they have the audacity to add 15% gratuity automatically to your bill. Not coming here again. I would have given her $2.75 as a tip, but they took $11. They only thing good was the food. Got me once. Not getting me again. ✌️P.S. to the manager, teach your staff how to properly treat the customers. Its costing you 💰. Word of mouth is more powerful than reviews and it hurts businesses.

I celebrated my PhD this evening in this great place. happy to tell that it was a pleasant evening and the place was clearly the reason for this successful meeting. The crew contributed in a lovely style, the meals were delicious and my friends were extremely delighted. We shall absolutely visit again for more events. Thank you very much.
The food here never fails. However, the customers today were NOT abiding by social distancing requirements.😷 The staff tried but the customers just didnt listen. Im going to have to wait awhile before I return. Im going to miss the food😔

The food is good, bathrooms are clean, servers are nice. However the main dish I ordered was way smaller than expected. My meal was laid in front of my guest along with his meal, rather than placed by me or in front of me. With a back brace a simple task like reaching to move something closer is difficult. Also the music was so loud that when the waitress came around to clear, I asked if she could pack our meals, but I dont think she could hear me. Needless to say that is why I changed the rating from 4 stars to 3.
The food was good, but it took a very long time to get two simple dishes. Our water was never replenished. We asked for the dessert menu and they didnt have many of the options on the menu available. I asked for a cappuccino (to have with my dessert)we finished our dessert, and never had my cappuccino nor did the waitress acknowledge that she forgot. This place would have potential if the staff was more committed.

Nice looking place but looks can be deceiving. a couple of morning girls behind the counter not to friendly shouldnt be their working (La Vida le apesta) as far as the food goes not to good. Carribean food should be cooked by a chef that knows its seasoning. This is not tacos.
I ordered online to avoid having to wait and when i arrived to pick up my food, the food i ordered they didn’t have… they need to fix their online ordering to help avoid customers waiting which is the main reason to order ahead.
I’ve lived all my life in the Bronx and I never experience a restaurant that all the woman that work at this place are RUDE and horrible attitude the way they answer your questions and rudeness!!! I was very hungry to buy so I ran out I’m 70yrs old and I almost cried leaving that place not even a tap water I requested!!!!
I ordered fried chicken chunk yellow rice and bean with a small chicken soup. It took them an hour and a half to deliver. I waited a hour before calling to find out where my order was. I was told the delivery guy had already left. After waiting another 20 minutes. My order still did not arrive. I then called back to be told I had to wait another 10 minutes. The end result was I missed my entire lunch break. As I order at 10:30, my lunch break is at 11:30. And I dont receive my order til 3 minutes to 12. Unbelievable. And very disappointing. Will not be ordering from here ever again.
Horrible! There was tables for two people In side. I was told. Nothing was reserve. Not only did one of the hostesses look me an my daughter up an down as of we were vagrants. She spoke over an around us refuse to translate. Than a you g dominican man told us what she said. Attempted to seat us outside in the tent in the cold by ourselves. By daughter was hungry so she insisted on staying. Food service was horrible as I first mentioned. Cold in seconds. Never came out to ask us were we ok. No one! Never ever again. Tip? Hell no!

Very busy location. The servers are always pleasant and professional. The place is always clean. Takeout orders are always complete and correct. Management is amazing. UPDATE 1/30/2020There was a discrepancy and as Usual Cafe Colonial has gone above and beyond to make the experience with them remarkable, keeping them Lo Mejor!!!!
The seafood salad I shared with my sister was very fresh and tasty. Our server was attentive and thoughtful as busy as the place was. I only gave four stars because they have to do a much better job keeping the tables, seating, and the restrooms clean! Its an eyesore to see sticky tables, crumbs on seats and messy restrooms too.
I have been visiting this restaurant for a couple years, I have been also seeing the customer service and the food quality deteriorating with the pass of time. Flavorless food and staff that make customers feel under appreciated on top of a 3.99% fee for the use of credit and debit cards is NOT a successful business plan for continuity.
The food and drinks were very good. I wouldve given a 5 star if the service wasnt slow, but the waitress did serve our needs when she did come around. The boneless chicken and 1/2 chicken with rice and beans were yummy.
Their food overall is delicious. I havent had too many dishes yet to say that everything is good, but overall solid food. The service kind of sucks, mainly because they cant decide whether they want to be a restaurant or a buffet spot. But for a hefty lunch with your significant other or immediate family, its as good a spot as any.
When I first moved to the area I used to really like the food. Lots of flavor always fresh and seasoned. Now when I go the meat are always dried out and the beans dont really have any flavor. I hope they get a new chef or something so I can really enjoy it like I used to before.
Breakfast is plain awesome. The servers are pretty and delightful. Its the best place for Latin food in the Bronx. Make a stop if you can.
Horrible.. placed an order online.. called they passed me to 5 different people and than they lady had the nerve to hang up the phone, saying they can’t deliver! When even give the option if you order online! Called back they don’t answer when my number shows.. called and blocked my number and than they answer.. and start speaking Spanish if they don’t know English.. than when I say I’m reporting them and let me speak to a manager/ supervisor for them being rude and hanging up now they speak English and want to apologize. Don’t even bother ever ordering from here! Good luck.. I’ve been warned but I still decided to try.
Some very good Dominican style Spanish food in the Bronx. Reasonable priced with lunch specials. Plenty of table seating and very nice decor and nice rest rooms. Wait staff very friendly and courteous. Will become a regular place to bisit for me.

Food is good the service is fine but it takes too long for you to get the check they put the gratuity in a lunch which is 5 or $10 which I dont think thats fair. They will get a better tip if they wont. And the waitress wont tell you is included on your bill
So came here for a late lunch/early dinner and was very good authentic hispanic cuisine. Very fast service although 3.99% service tip on card was a slight bummer but didnt take away from our meals. Would definitely go again.
Ordered half turkey, eggplant rolls and steamed vegetables to be delivered for Thanksgiving to my parents and they absolutely loved it! Well seasoned and flavorful. Delivery was right on time and food was hot. Gracias Colonial!
I only get take out from here but dining in seems like it would be nice. The place is nicely decorated and newly renovated. The food is great every time. The staff could be friendlier but theyre not really a problem. It tends to get busy and they are open past 9pm which is a benefit.
I used to order from here, years ago. There is probably new owners now. My daughter and her friends all had stomach aches. They ordered chicharon de pollo, probably old oil. I do not recommend this place. Stay away.

My husband and I visited this place 10/21/2019 for breakfast. The waitress with short blonde hair wasnt friendly, gave us water and left didnt say shed be right with us, if we were ready to order NOTHING on top of the fact we sat for 10 minutes with NO service! YET the place was completely empty so that wasnt an excuse. The place is very unprofessional we were completely ignored so we walked out and will NEVER return. She obviously needs training in customer service.
Great Dominican food. Theres a lot of choices to choose from no matter what diet you follow. What keeps me going back is the great customer service. They absolutely treat their customers right. Only reason dont give this restaurant 5 stars is that they are a little on the expensive side. But given their location one could say its appropriate. Definitely worth a visit!

My experience was terrible 😞 the waiter brought the wrong order out and took their time brining my food out. I would not suggest going if you want good service there.
The food is decent. The restaurant has a nice ambience. The delivery is HORRIBLE!!! Takes about least 45-90 min to deliver 4 blocks away with their stupid car. It takes even longer if you paid with your credit card. Expect soggy burgers if opting for delivery. Oh and is it just me or their portions on those family dinner options from their delivery menu shrank severely?!
The steaks are AMAZING! Seasoned and seared perfectly. Had a seafood paella today and it was also pretty good. All of their food looks delicious, good service, very clean- it has become a favorite for my boyfriend and I!

Yesterday was the first time we came to that restaurant. But It is surely not the last. We had great time with the excellent service, with the magnificent dishes and fine drinks and with the comfortable cost. We will no doubt come back again.
Just had breakfast. Butter for toast frozen. My menu price was one dollar lower than the bill price. Staff is at best brisk. The orange juice was some sort of sunny d product. Eggs and bacon very good.
Seriously I have eaten at this spot for years and I mean since the day they opened. The food is getting nasty. I love the waiters and waitresses they are very nice ...very verynice. But that food doesnt taste fresh at all. Its like the cook is tired. Yuck the bbq chicken from the appetizers section of the menu come smothered with literally 59 pounds of nasty fake sauce and Coffee was cold. No more. Im done with this spot.

By far one of my favorite Dominican food places in the Bronx. The ambiance is great and the staff makes you feel like you are at home. The menu if amazing and the flavor... well.... no words can explain how awesome they are!!! 100%
Food service is not great. I use to come here often awhile back and decided to come again. The wait service is horrible. They all seem to have an attitude or a bad day. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and came another day. Again to my disbelief the food server had an attitude. Didnt acknowledged that I was waiting to order for a good 15 minutes. I could of left but stayed but will definitely not return. I hope the owner can see customers comments and see that service is not great, food is overpriced and customer service is terrible maybe train the waiters on how to be courteous with the customers.
This place is AMAZING!!! Staff is friendly & helpful. I’m new to the neighborhood & after just finishing unloading & moving I walked around looking for a place to eat. It was late like after 11pm but it’s the Bronx so figure something will be open. McDonalds was closed. This place is 2 blocks from my apartment and was open. I walked in and was seated by friendly staff. Right away I was told kitchen was closing so I figure just grab anything but no sandwiches and no rice side dishes I am told so now I’m confused and thinking I’m not getting dinner. Boy was I wrong, kitchen was closing so they weren’t going to make the rice side dish as it’s made in large scale but basically full menu except the sandwiches. I ordered a dinner... the best meal I have had since living in BX for 5yrs. Sooo fresh, clean tasting. Flavorful and plentiful. The plate was covered with food. I couldn’t believe with a closing kitchen this amazing meal is what I got, I wondered what a fully open kitchen would do. Food is so good I ordered another entree as take out just to have food to bring to work the next day. Soo glad it’s 2 blocks from my place. So far I have taken all who come to see my new place to eat here & each time food is amazing. Good food but the quality of service has gone down tremendously. I suggest all new waitresses. Some are a little stuck up. That would send a message to all that customers come first. They spend too much time gossiping about others

This restaurant has very good food but i agree with really rude staff. i have called several times in different occasions I have been put on hold for 15 minutes then hung up on, i call again same thing happens. by the third time i call i get attended. recently had one of the men who pick up the phone explain to me that sometimes they are too busy and the client does not understand but whatever those were his exact words but whatever i do not believe that the word whatever is work ethic. please train your staff in how to speak over the phone.
The food here is always on point! The staff is nice and usually quick to attend their clients. It can get pretty busy but that only means one thing... the food is worth it, enjoy your meal!
Food was great.high 5 to the chef.as far as waitress forgot us didnt even ask if food okay n if we need anything.i tipped but would have prefer tip the chef. Place is clean n great decore.waitress need be trained. Would go again only for great food.
When I first moved here I really enjoyed eating at this place but lately the service and food has been going down hill. Last week, I purchased some soup, when I got home it was cold, it was actually bone cold. Another issue, I have is that in order to sit down and eat you must purchase an order versus a lunch portion. Its basically food for two. They also add a 15% tip which is ILLEGAL! Tip is optional, and I would probably give more if I wasnt forced to give the 15%. Now on to the food, it use to be so tasty and full of flavor now its bland. If i wasnt as hungry as I was tonight, I would have probably thrown the food away. In addition, now certain meals can only be ordered as an order and not the lunch portion. Im not worried about the price but I am a single person. It is not fair that every time I want to eat something I have to order for two. Thats a waste of food and money. In addition, you now must pay for garlic mojito thats ridiculous. Also your staff is quite rude sometimes and dismiss people when asking a basic question.
HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! When I called to order something for pick up they said I had to GO IN to order and I asked why why cant it be ready for when I go to pick it up and with attitude the lady on the phone said shell do it but When I got there to pick it up IT WASNT done,No one was taking any orders at the counter and when I asked a lady she send me to another lady that paid no mind to me so forget them! WALK RIGHT OUT . This is the Second time they do something like this , the first time I ordered a lunch pasta and they said they had no more lunch pasta I had to get the dinner size when it was 2 pm & I have ordered it before with no problems. Just sucks they have horrible costumer service because the food is pretty good. Hope you manager gets NEW HELPFUL & ACTUAL EMPLOYEE THAT WANT TO WORK.
My favorite spanish restaurant. It is not only great food, but they have an awesome Brunch special on the weekends until 11AM and a great vibe and menus for special events such as Valentines Day. I highly reccomend this place. Prices are very reasonable.Update: i have come here several times and unfortunately the service is consistently rude. Too bad because i enjoy the food. I have never seen such rude and impatient servers like i encountered here multiple time. Its embarrassing to bring a guest and be treated this way.
I really enjoy the food and atmosphere, however the service is usually very slow. Every time Ive dined there one of the sides or drinks that comes with my order doesnt make it to the table. Over all the experiences I have there I have enjoyed very much, so the inconveniences experienced are fairly insignificant.

Food was good but menu can be misleading Asked for Goat Stew, which was under the lunch menu, waitress returns and says that they can not make it for that price. Same was said for the Oxtail Stew. I wanted to probe but not while they had to make my food. Good listed for lunch menu price is an extra $3.00 on top of the $6.95 price. They need to fix their menu prices.
The place decorations are cute, the alfredo pasta was finger licking good. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is because right when it was time to pay I gave my debit card to the waiter she took it came back with the receipt so I walked out. Another waiter ran after me and said excuse me you didnt pay, I said what do u mean the lady took my card and gave me a receipt if I needed to do anything else the waiter shouldve mentioned it in there, she didnt tell me sign the paper or anything she gave me a receipt so I assumed we were done here. It was so embarrassing she didnt even apologize.
The price was a little high for both the service and food, not to mention the wait time while seated. The restaurant is small and just plain crowded for the demand in that area. I didnt like their appetizer which was tortilla chips and salad dressing. With my order they kept forgetting items and later in the meal they would bring it, which by that point I didnt want it. Needs improvement!!!

Horrible experience! We always eat here with my family but yesterday was a nightmare. With two babies hungry and we placed two orders at 730pm and we patiently waited for over an HOUR & TWENTY FIVE minutes. Im very patient but we couldnt take it. The nerve to say hell be there in 5 minutes and doesnt even bother to call up. Does pork chops and rice take 1hr to cook? Certainly doesnt.

Great service and good food. Its a bit pricey, however. Convenient since its the only one near our home. One thing I dont like is that they measure the serving, either with an ice cream scooper or a small plastic container. Depending on what you are having.
When it comes to Spanish food is simply a straight shot. Its really hard to mess this kind of food up, with that being said because the food is so easy to cook the staff should be extra extra nice. For the most part they are. As for the manager or the owner of this place I think hes a A-hole.
Not sure if they had rush hour or what but took 2 hours to deliver rice and fries. Youre better off picking up if you can, the food was good but fries were soggy since it took so long.
Awesome service, patient servers, great food and good prices. Caution-if you order shrimp fettuccini with half chicken and half shrimp, they will charge you the price of the dish n $8 extra for the chicken.

Ive ordered takeout food trying to give it a chance but each time, its been really bad - it is different than if you sit down. That being said, when you sit in the restaurant, that food is pretty amazing. Not recommended for take-out but definitely to sit-in.

The food is good & we order all the time but I just cant get passed the rude staff. Im going to stop ordering from there. This place has very bad service, the food is expensive, and the staff is rude. I live close to this restaurant and I never order from there. The food is very expensive and its not even that good. I went in this morning to ask if they still had oatmeal which is the only good thing they make, and is very expensive by the way; and the lady said nope just like that. With an attitude. The women dont where hair nets while serving the food. One time I went in and there was one of them serving the soup with long blond hair laying right over her chest almost touching the soup as she served it. It was gross and I left immediately

Today I bought a large coffee and the size I received is small and the worst is the price, 3.00 dollars I do not recommend this place, because they should show the size before the customer buys it, that is an inappropriate behavior, because after that I paid for it the waitress told me shamelessly oh thats the big size that we have yeah rightI would like to share the pictures of the tickets and the size of the coffee unacceptable 😑😐😤
A little pricy for the food they offer.Also they add the the 2o% tip to your bill and if you dont pay attention you guve them another tip in top of it!. The food is no so great. Bit if you dont know how to cook or you are lazy you can eat there other wise is not worth it!
Food is great at night they seem to just rush into it,but its okay. Service is not that great only few times I went they seem to have one or two profesional girls, but the one that mostly is charging is serious or out of it. Other than that this is one of the best Resturants they have around Im sure they can improve costomer service and then can be great.
There’s been two times I’ve gotten a lunch special and I got sick those two times, I don’t know maybe the food is too greasy or they leave it for hours sitting maybe it could be from food even over night.
This place is a hidden gem: the decor is rustic, the ambiance inviting. My favorite entree is the oxtail stew with rice, black beans and freshly sliced avocado, yum 😋! Very busy on the weekends so the best time to frequent is on weekdays during dinner hours.
Good food but the service is terrible including delivery. When you order for food for delivery it takes awhile and you have to go downstairs to pick it up because the delivery people are unable to get out of their cars from fear of tickets. I thought they would switch to bike delivery to solve this problem. When you go to pick up from the restaurant the system is flawed do to the fact when you place the order you are given a receipt to then take to the register and pay. The person you need to pay is usually on the phone taking orders so you have to wait about 5 to 8 minutes before you can pay for your food.
We waited 45 minutes for the food to arrive at our table and the only reason I know is because I set an alarm for the meter outside. It seems like the waitresses are nicer to men. When we finally received the food it was cold. Everything took long; take out order, get our Order, clean our table, get the check! Seriously frustrated at the end. And the worst part is the food was not even worth it. The mojo was the worst I ever had. Maduros were cold and dry. We got a sandwich thats supposed to be hot, it was cold. Absolutely will not return! Everything takes too long is like they forget about you, and the food not worth it!

The food here is so flavorful and the service is Amazing! This has been me and bfs date night spot for over 3 years! I always get the Fried Pork chops with the Arroz Blanco and the red Habichuelas but the Skirt Steak is just as delicious! Their freshly brewed Coffee is a must afterwards...☕️😋
For takeout its good but for seating is terrible. They have many many workers but none know what they are doing. If you arrive at the most busy time they would sit you but forget you are even there until you ask them several times when they are going to take your order. After you order they will once again forget about you until you are done and give you the check and ask you to pay.

Hmm, so were would I begin. For me take-out beats actually sitting in the restaurant and waiting to be served. The service is a tad slow yet the meals when brought to the table are hot and fresh. I still prefer the take-out which seems to me to be a whole lot faster that when being served.
This eatery is visually pleasing. Its clean but I went for lunch.....was given a lunch menu and could only order limited dishes on that menu. What we did order was from a steam table and took over 20 minutes to be served.Food was just ok. Service lacking.

I usually go at night,food is delicious and fresh, their drinks are yummy (not watered down) and the ambience is beautiful , quiet (with nice music....Not obnoxiously loud) with soft light, beautiful booths and a very nice clean, modern bathroom. The staff is professional and friendly and very accommodating. Im not related to any of the employees nor do I know any one at the establishment ... Just being honest and fair11/11/2018: Omg! Just had sancocho! It was the bomb! Fresh delicious meat and lots of viandas ! Always afraid to order because usually restaurants make it salty, but glad i took my chances! Just like my moms....delicious!
Great pernil Love the seasoning for their meat. Not too salty. Food is always usually hot. On occasion its medium. Coffee needs a boost. Overall a good staple for Boogie down Spanish food.
The server was not polite. She took forever bringing the bill and when I gave her a card to pay she didnt do anything for 15 mins. I eventually had to get up to get her attention. The food was just ok.

Im a regular here...reading others comments I have to say to the colonial owner is that you cant please everyone. Some people are just born complainers!!!I always say put yourself in a position to own your own restaurant and see how difficult it is to manage one. Besides that if you want to be complaining stay home and cook your own food!!! Ive never walked into this restaurant and seen it empty. Its always packed which tells me that they must be doing something right!!! The food is delicious and the staff are all friendly and warm....so what, that theyre English is not the best but its understandable....I do suggest to hire some African-American girls to balance out the language barrier....but overall this is the place to come for some Spanish culture!!!!
Cozy little place in the heart of The Bronx, great staff, delicious food and amazing environment. Hispanic flavors at another level, if you are near this area dont miss it, is worth coming. Lots of couples and families as well.

I waited 20 minutes for what I thought was going to be good steak dinner but I was so disappointed with my meal and they also charge you for extra garlic.. never again.. I dont live in this neighborhood but I was visiting someone who just got out of hospital. The steak taste like rubber and it was plane old nasty.. you ppl shouldnt have a license to cook.. SMH..
I like their food but ordering from them is a HASSLE. Delivery is SLOW and they wont deliver to your door. As of recently they require you to give your credit card for phone orders. I find that in the world of GrubHub and Seamless, they are doing themselves a disservice. Why would I give my credit card info to someone over the phone (who does that anymore?) when I can order on either GrubHub or Seamless from my phone? The concept of ordering takeout as a CONVENIENCE is lost on these people. Remember the days when hospitality was centered on making people happy to spend their money? At $25+ a takeout order, Ill bother with places that make it easy for me to want to leave my money there. I didnt give them a lower rating because their food is decent and theyve really worked on improving their service in the last 8 years theyve been in the neighborhood.

As a former local this was always the preferred Spanish spot. Rotisserie chicken and chicharron de pollo are on point. The mofongo is great! Rice and beans are of good quality. Ive even gotten the chicken Alfredo once and it wasnt bad. Service is mixed depending on busyness which is quite often because its that good. Both eating in and take out are usually packed during dinner time so be aware of wait time. Overall its a good spot for grub and drink!
This is my favorite place to go to when I want authentic Spanish food. Their portions and prices are super generous! They also have 2 for 1 drinks on their weekday happy hour menu.

Love their oxtail and goat stew. Staff is very friendly. The only issue is that when they celebrate birthdays the music is so loud it hurts, and it has a screeching sound. Either was it has amazing food!

I was disappointed again with my take out meal that cost me over $20. The mofongo was hard and dry. The octopus was in a tasteless sauce and rubbery. Wonder if the chef bothers to sample his food? Be a while before I go back.

This was my first time coming here to order takeout. I wanted empanadas, and I was informed by the cashier that their empanadas are not for to-go orders. The two cashier ladies were not experienced in properly providing appropriate customer service. They did not explain to me my menu/meal options. I had to ask them, which got me some eyerolls and heavy breathing. They were very adamant that I give in my paid stamped receipt, yet didnt provide utensils and napkins. I will not return here, this would have been a nice family restaurant option for me...Ill inform others to not waste their time.

Café Colonial is one of my favorite restaurants for Dominican and Latin American fare. The food here is great. First-timers should always go with one of their mofongo options. Theyre all delicious. The staff here is friendly, although they can be a bit more attentive.

Im a loyal Colonial customers but that was until today. I CANT ORDER AND PICK IT UP ANYMORE WTH. My family and I have been ordering (pick up only because delivery takes too long) and I literally live across the street and dining in for about 7yrs now and although the quality of the food had decreased tremendously as well as the quantity we remained loyal to support the local Spanish restaurant and because most servers know us by name. This is it for me though Im done with them is not like this is the only Spanish place in this neighborhood; the closest yes but the only obsolutely not.
I have been going to Colonial since it was Caridad. So i think today was just the icing on the cake in a long line of bad service.Dont get me wrong, the food is great, and if it was based on that alone, i would be a happy camper. But the problem is, 10-20% of the time they mess something up in your walk in order, your sit down order, or your order for delivery over the phone.Today the service was just sub par to say the least. The order was placed for a dish with no chicken and when the dish comes it has chicken, this is about the 4th time its happened and there is just no excuse, and telling me that the machine where you place the order in only has the meal as one choice is not good enough, make a second choice, its just one more line to look at.They also brought the dish without the main sides stating they ran out, why they didnt inform us that the sides has run out the minute we ordered is a mystery to me.They also could not cater to children stating that they could not give out more than one crayon at a time to each child..........are you kidding me, i almost wanted to get up and go to staples to buy these expensive crayons.The food is good, i wont say great because at this point you lose your interest in eating, but when they get the order right the food is good.I have had catering done from them and the prices are reasonable for catering and on bulk orders which are basic they do a good job of it.The morning crew seems to do a better job with breakfast, but the afternoon crew always seems to have issues and the night crew is a little better than the afternoon crew depending on who is there.I think we wont be headed to Colonial for a while and will hit up Stevens which is in the other direction. Smaller place but quality seems better.
Colonial restaurant did not accommodate me as I I order a combo for breakfast. Instead of the coffee, I wanted regular tea with lemon, which the coffee in general cost more than the tea. The manager refused to give me the tea, and suggested that I pay an extra $1.00 for the tea. Very disappointed on a very cold day. I do not drink coffee. So much for making customer feel satisfied.

Dont bother with delivery because theyre the only restaurant in the neighborhood who makes you go to the lobby to meet a delivery driver who refuses to deliver to your door. Oxymoron much?. If you dine in their restaurant, they will AUTO GRATUITY your bill which is ILLEGAL in NYC. Nowhere in Manhattan can you auto gratuity anyone...but oddly they practice this with parties of 2. If you go with the right looking people, they wont auto grat your bill. Read between the lines. Nonsense and illegal. Not worth the time. And if you read the comments from the owner to reviews that arent good, youll understand why its not worth going. Immature and lacking in true hospitality. Literally zero service recovery.
Came here to pick up some lunch. Anytime Im in the area and wanting some Dominican food, this is the place to go. I got the Moro de Gandules with chicken breast. Its a lot of food! The lunch also came with sweet plantains, which is always a treat.
I use to love this place a few years back however now it is horrible! Service and waiters are horrible. The food is good and that is why I try to come back but every time I come, Im reminded of why I shouldnt. Horrible!

Had a Cuban sandwich, it was delicious. For only $10 it was well worth the money. Its on a club hero sandwich with ham Swiss cheese and pernil mmm.
Drinks were on point but customer service could hv been better. They changed waitresses on us and didnt tell us and we werent checked on during our visit we had to get the waitress attention everytime we wanted something.

2022-06-08June 8, 2022, 11months ago I was there. Today I was there and the food was great and the service by Erica was great. What I found out very disturbing was that the 18% tip was included in the bill. The first bill given was the total for the food. I left cash tip of $23.00 for server who did an excellent job. I just called a few minutes when I got home and was told cant reverse tip but can give me the cash back. As a business owner it doesnt make sense. I will not be going back to restaurant. When they give you receipt they give you total but dont give you receipt back of what you spent unless you ask for it. I assumed when I requested receipt it would be ok but when I got in my car I noticed the 18% added. That means it is 36% tip. That is why I am given a 1 because of how sneaky they were. All customers much check price before leaving a tip and request original receipt.The food was good and the service as well. A little pricey for the food but cant complain when our server made sure we were enjoying our meal.

2021-07-17My chicharon mofongo, was delicious. I truly enjoyed my lunch. Service was good. The only thing I was a bit bothered by, was the tip included in your bill. I feel that should be on the customer to give. We all have different experiences. Other than that it was great.

2022-04-29Update 2022They really improved things. The Caribbean chicken is still good but theyre using smaller pieces then they used to. The rice with pigeon peas is excellent. Service is a lot better. The beef stew is soft now but it doesnt have a lot of vinegar like carribean food usually does.update 9/2019My last 3 delivery experiences were terrible. I received plaintain raw still part pink inside, i eat green Banana (guinero) often this times it seems like it was slow cool boiled not water. I requested garlic for the tostones when I recieved my delivery I was told I had to pay $1 for that. Why not just charge it as a side. Plus I only needed 1 which would have been .50 cents. the meat was excellent. I think the issue is on Sundays Mexican workers may mot be familiar with caribbean cuisine. Its an issue in a lot of Dominican places in the Bronx, Sunday food is not as good. There is a smart mouth Dominican guy every time I speak with him I know there is going to be a problem. I called to check of my order was received he could have just told me to come down with an extra dollar. I locked myself out accidentally to get the food they never ring a bell no matter how much the tip or how many parking spaces. the tostones were replaced with more raw and oily soggy plantain.Nicer atmosphere than many for dinner to sit in. But like most food is a a little inconsistent. Today my half roasted chicken is usually dry. Today it was not. My experience is to avoid the beef guisado... dry. I often get the caribbean chicken. Its usually the safest consistency. Better than Stevens (sorry).UPDATE: 11/13/18 I appreciate the owner response. I look forward to going there more and trying more food. I had stopped going there for like a year. So maybe everything not just the chicken has improved. I look forward to changing this review in the near future...now that I have had 2 great dishes recently.

2021-05-19I ordered the Duo De Monfongos, which is mashed plantains and cassava with Churrasco steak and shrimp in creole sauce. The price was good and the food was amazing. They also have a super cute bench outside for photos.

Order something that is clearly on the menu, they gave me the menu and it was there, waiter, which was VERY rude said they didn’t serve that, told her it was on the menu and showed her. She gave me attitude and walked away. Later on she came over and asked if we wanted the rest of our food to go, mind you we were in the middle of eating…. Why are we being rushed ? And what’s with the attitude DO NOT RECOMMEND

2022-06-06This was the worst service I ever had.I’m not coming back to this place. The waitress was so mad because I was asking some questions about the dishes. And she dropped our food at the table never come back to ask how we were doing and she just came back to ask us if we wanted the check. And she was unpleasant throughout out meal. Just horrible service through and through and didn’t deserve the 18% tip they were charging for!
