Captree State Park in other cities:
Nice spot to hang out, sit and enjoy some nice weather, looking out over the Bays calm water, watch the fishing boats come and go, or just sail by. One main place (restaurant) there you can purchase food and drinks, sit inside or outside. They sometimes have live music for your entertainment.
Its a very beautiful place to relax and unwind their have a drink or dinner at the restaurant there or you could go out fishing on one of their fishing boats theres a huge fleet you can also take the moonchaser to flynns and the Schooner in Ocean bay park.. on the other side..is a beach that over looks the Robert Moses Bridge. Beautiful sunsets. Fishing and crabbing
A very beautiful area. Accessible by boat only. This is access to the barrier islands off the East coast of Long Island, New York. We entered the park near Babylon, NY. At the park entrance there is free parking, a restaurant, free toilets, boat slips, bait shop and pier. Available are designated tour vessels, similar to a small passenger ferry which requires a reservation and where beach destinations can be accessed. There are several designated beaches along the barrier island stretching as far East as the Moriches. We visited the section known as Fire Island. There are summer cottage style houses for rent with access to the Atlantic Ocean beaches. The Fire Island Hotel is a quaint and bustling hotel. Flynns Restaurant & Bar serves delicious seafood and burgers. Definitely something to check out on-line for visitor information. Be sure to look at Google Maps to see the details of the beach locations. Farther out by the William Floyd Parkway is a limited area entry for vehicles but does not give access beyond that park/beach area.
An awesome place for boating, walking, hangout and relax with friends and family, especially in Summer time. Ocean waves have great calming factor. If you have ambition to catch some fish or crabs. There are plenty for everyone. There is an on site restaurant serves fresh catches daily. There is a small shop provides most of the supplies you may need for fishing or crabbing. Fishing boats leaves a few times a day to take passengers to the open water. Free entry for cars if you go early in the morning or late in the evening.
Nice family friendly spot that isnt very crowded. You can fish from 2 different docks. There is a bait and tackle store if you need supplies. Also has a fleet of fishing boats that go out 3 times a day. A small restaurant with out door seating. I havent eaten their but it looks like typical bar food (burgers, dogs and chicken fingers etc.) .
Captree State Park is a 340-acre (1.4 km2) state park located in the towns of Babylon and Islip in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The park is located south of Captree Island on the easternmost end of Jones Beach Island, and overlooks the Fire Island Inlet and the westernmost section of Fire Island.Captree State Park can be accessed via the Robert Moses Causeway and the Ocean Parkway. The park primarily provides boating and fishing access to the Atlantic Ocean and Long Islands Great South Bay, and numerous charter boats are available for fishing excursions
Great local captains who know where the fish are hitting. Even with all the Covid19 restrictions it was nice to be able to escape it all for a few hours and just go fish. Lots of fluke (although only a few were keepers) and sea robin during my bay trip last week. Buddy of mine even caught a small shark! I will be back again later this summer.
Great playground for the kids. Ample parking. Great cafe to get burgers and sandwiches while hanging out and watching the boats take off. There is a really long fishing pier to sit and watch people fish or crab. A gazebo to sit and relax in the shade. There is a restaurant upstairs that give you a nice view of the bay unfortunately they dont have a ton of choices and what they do have is a bit pricey. I did not eat there but may try it one day. There is another path where you can set up BBQ and watch the boats. If its a nice day and you are looking for great views to enjoy the peace and quiet then check it out.
Captree State Park is a very nice place to visit,,there are beautiful beach to relax on the atmosphere is great.. only a few miles away from the ocean inlet wich brings in some beautiful breezes from the ocean its a very relaxing place there are many fishing piers in the area and they also have chartered fishing boats to go fishing on.. captree is a very very nice place to visit, and in the evening theres some really beautiful sunsets to see..
One of my favorite places to be but I was disappointed during my last visit (Sept 2021) Ive been coming here for over 25 years and much has changed. The beaches have gotten less prestine and the catch of marine life (crabs and fish) that had once been so abundant are sparse. If looking for better catches, I would recommend that you venture farther out, deeper into Long Island away from the city.
Update - April 2022Not much going on now...getting ready for the upcoming season. This park is wonderful, but do not go expecting a beach. This is a park known for fishing, piers and a small playground. There was a restaurant that at the time I am writing this...is being renovated. The bait shop is small and limited in what they cary.Sunsets here are spectacular and there are numerous party boats to fish from.Go, relax, enjoy.
There some nice picturesque spots, like a view of the lighthouse, and boardwalks to take a stroll on. This gets crowded by the tiki bar, and very noisy by the commercial charter boats. The area stinks of fish, and people who fish leave behind a lot of trash. Make sure your car registration and inspection stickers are up to date, otherwise and unfortunately the police will come around taking advantage of parked cars with expired stickers! This is not a spot to come to relax!
If you want to be at the beach without actually being at the Beach, then the overlook at Captree is perfect. If you go mid week the crowds are low and there are plenty of tables and grills. If you sit in the sun breath the ocean air grill some food and relax away from the main crowd. Then this is great. The marina has a good restaurant and many charter boats for fishing and parties. Non of which I use but I hear they are very good.
7am Sunday car show, 13.75 mile bike trail entrance is here, goes all the way to Jones beach via a paved path along ocean parkway. Passes all the beach with rest stops and pull overs. Awesome trail!! Also you can grab the fishing party boats out of capture as per the usual.
An excellent place to roam around. I went there couple of times . I enjoyed the environment and took fresh air inside. This place is a very nice area to visit because you can relax, walk around, enjoy seeing the water as boats drive by, a pier where you can walk to see where the water goes, and take breathe taking pictures of yourself, the sunset, and a playground for your kids to run around. Overall, the place is nice to visit, but go before dark, so u can feel the wind and everything since if u go during the day, its very hot! A recommended place to visit
Been coming here for 60 years. There was a field east of the parking lot for picnics. The field went well past the fishing pier. Time has taken it away. Seen numerous sailboards get stuck under the fishing pier. That current coming around is super strong. Been to numerous events down here. The car culture down here can be huge. Some go to the upper lot to take pictures with the bridge in the background. The fishing fleet is great and so is the snackbar. Lets see what the bike path brings. The boat ramp and parking area they added is super nice.
Its a real nice setting but, I have gone fishing and crabbing there two times two weeks apart and both times Not one person caught not one fish or crab just large amounts of seaweed. Idk what caused such a bloom of the algae but it is in abundance and absolutely nothing alive seems to be there, and it is ashame because the setting is amazing... peirs built for fishing, boat dock, childrens park, bait shop and huge restaurant. BUT FISHING AND CRABBING SUCKS BECAUSE OF ALGAE BLOOM.
Prior to boarding the boat, hung out at this eatery by the dock. Good food and very friendly and welcoming staff. Think the name of it was Tiki Joes Beach Club. Was at Captree for a night cruise ride on Captain Gillens boat which was nice and relaxing. Only about 15 of us. Very nice people. Captain Gillen was very personable and knowledgeable about landmarks.
Great place to go for crabbing. The family went on an outing there in August but we didnt catch as much crabs as we did in the past. I think the best time to go is in September. We had a great time because we took other food products to grill so eventhough we didnt catch a lot of crabs, we were still good on eats.
It was fun to visit in the off season! We saw 14 deer along the ride in. We walked along the shore and found a couple of shells and rocks. Our grandaughters loved the four bridges that spanned the water on the drive to and fro. A sunny but cold day that we dressed warm for turned ou to be a very happy time for us all.🐬From Barbara and Tony,Suffolk County,N.Y.😜
Used to be really nice. The whole fishing dock was full of seaweed and garbage and things written in Chinese. No racism but the Chinese people take fish that are way too small and totally illegal to take then they put them in the car and hide them. Conservation and the police really need to make this park nice used to be one of my favorite places in the world. Now the fishing is dwindling away and the place looks like a dump! Cockroaches all over the end of the dock thats not acceptable
Have been going to Captree for years. Great place to fish and crab off the pier. As well as catch a boat 4 days worth of fishing. lots of boats to choose from all different times of departure pretty much won an hour from 6 a. M. To midnight just about. This year 2018 the fishing has been to say the least a little miserable. Not many fish I believe the area is overfished
This is an extension of the famous Jones Beach and is a way to experience the South Shore of Long Island without having to drive for many hours. Its usually very cool and breezy. So its best to bring along some warm clothes. Sun screen is also advised. Sand reflects the rays and increases the chance of a burn.People crabbing and fishing are everywhere and some even catch enough for dinner. There are many grills and picnic tables around. All you need is to do is bring some charcoal along.
A great place for summer fishing and crabbing. No such luck for 2 weeks because of seaweed but Im optimistic. SEAWEED is understood in English, Spanish, Chinese and Korean. I really wish people READ the sign that says to throw the seaweed back! I almost cracked my neck slipping but thats another post.
I am very high on the quality of NYS Parks. There are two fishing piers. Restroom facilities and picnic areas. In the boat basin area there is a tackle store and restaurant area( currently under renovation). The open boat fleet Is huge with sailngs at various times for various intervals. Tackle and bait is supplied. The mates are helpful and friendly.Try the Jib VI for half days and the Capt Rod for full days. Ocean trips can be had on the Laura Lee.There is also a boat launch ramp on the Northside.Check the Captree Website.

2021-07-17If you’re an outdoors family person, this is a great state park to visit if you want to alternate between Jones Beach and Robert Moses, which aren’t that far. The parking fee is $8, but if you have a state pass, you know it’s free! There is kayaking, fishing, boating, restaurants, and the beach. I went to mainly fish by the pier, which had benches for people to sit and relax instead of just stand. I brought my own chairs just in case. There is absolutely no shade so I do recommend bringing a beach umbrella and rope to tie against something, or an upstanding umbrella. There is a no swimming sign all around the park, but I saw kids swimming. If children do not like fishing, there’s a sand park behind the fishing pier. Be warned, there’s poison ivy by the grassy area. You’ll see the signs. Next to the park, is where the fishing boat dock is. I didn’t take the boat out so I’m unsure of the pricing. The restroom is your average state park bathroom, the restaurant is around the area as well as the bait shop for fishermen. The other side of the pier has picnic tables and BBQ. Overall, it’s a nice park and a little remote compared to Jones Beach and Robert Moses. Not as much sand to play with at this park compared to the other two, but it’ll keep the little ones entertained for sure.

2021-08-11Very nice little park with a very large Fishing Pier on this trip restaurant was an open but restrooms were they have a large parking area handicap parking a bait and tackle shop even when the shops are closed they have bait and ice and vending machines two fishing piers one on the inside one on the outside one is extremely large failing no I didnt notice if they still had a play area for kids but its primarily for fishing and the fishing fleet is docked all along that the boats are in very good condition well-maintained captains are very friendly and knowledgeable and the deckhands are right there to help you.
