If I could get a negative double 00, I certainly would. No one responds to the complaint website and you an never speak to your building manager. The heat is nonexistent every winter. Ive had a window problem for years. Ive made a minimal solution but the rest of the apartment is as if you are outside. Ive contacted 311 and Borough President Im still waiting for the city to issue them with fines. Ive complained about the intercom for close to a year and nothing is done. From my experience they are the worst. Seek other developments.
The absolute worst property management group in NYC. Theyre absolutely AWFUL in every sense of the word. They should be taken down and shut down forever because they lie, evade and treat their tenants like garbage. As a tenant of Chestnut Holdings for 5 years, I have absolutely nothing good to say about them. DO NOT WORK WITH THEM. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. They are thieves and just terrible people in general. Awful. Just awful. I cant say enough negative things about them, honestly.
I currently reside at Chestnut Holdings 1115 Jerome Avenue building and from the moment I moved in 2.5 years ago it’s been a nightmare. When I moved in my kitchen floors were about to cave, living room and hallway tiles were breaking and they didn’t even put a new vanity cabinet in my bathroom. To date I’ve had numerous toilet overflows, four ceiling leaks, a collapsed bathroom ceiling, electrical fire from the bathroom socket, minimal heat and a rat infestation. Management won’t send anybody to evaluate the issues and they haven’t even contacted me in regards to the fire and yes I’ve sent out numerous emails and left plenty messages. I’m paying high rent to live in a slum studio apartment. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
Recently moved in February 2020. We started noticing roaches all over the apartment, told the super all was said to put your name on the list for exterminator. Then recently people moved in the apartment above us you hear everything going on walking, running the television when they drop things all hours of the day. I have been calling the office and leaving messages my property manager Ashley has yet to respond. Has I’m reading these reviews I feel like we’ve been sold a dream of a good living situation. This company needs to be held accountable for their actions they are taking advantage of their tenants by the looks of these reviews. I AM DEFINITELY NOT !!!!! RENEWING THIS LEASE.
GUYS EVERY NEGATIVE COMMENT IS ACCURATEEE!!! DO NOT MOVE IN!!! Please guys listen to these comments, I should’ve read all of these before moving in. Literally nobody pick up the phone and Emails you might get lucky if they ever get back to you. Repairs you literally have to contact them more than 10x if you want something to be fixed. When I first moved it itTook them 2 months just to give me a mailbox key. Nobody cares trust me whatever you do do not Move in. Rats, touches, bugs, spider everyrhing you can imagine they have. I am currently in the process of breaking my lease because literally I cannot take living here no more.
When we moved in here, there were already problems on the premises We were told by the superintendent that the issues would be resolved before we were to move in. This was late December. Some, but not all, of the problems were: clogged sink, clogged tub, a loose connection in ceiling light, and a backed-up toilet. It is now July. Evidently, there is an underlying issue with the plumbing in this unit, but they have failed to make any attempts to remedy the situation. On several occasions, we have reached out to the super for the issues to be resolved. Each time, they would ask if we were home and if we were they would send someone. However, every time the person would come, he would always need to leave to “get apart” and we never see him again. It’s to the point now where communication is non-existent. The Super’s number has been disconnected for three weeks and we have reached out through the online form that they request of us and we still have not heard back. Furthermore, since we’ve moved in, we have had to fight off a legion of mice that invaded what seemed to be every other day and there are several roaches to deal with as well. The exterminator comes and sprays behind the stove and toilet, but this does nothing. Honestly, I know this place isn’t a luxury apartment building, but this is unacceptable for the amount that they are asking for.It’s sad because this building has a lot of potential to be a great mid-ranged residence, but for the reasons above and the countless others not listed, it has left myself and my partner with no desire to renew our lease. Needless to say, I will not be considering this management company again, and I hope this review serves as an example of the poor management of resources and labor at this location and to also serve as a warning to any interested person(s) seeking more information about this establishment.
Chestnut Holdings isthe worse landlord ever. Take pictures before you move in because when you move out they will charge you for damages. They base it on pictures they supposedly have on file. But you dont get to see them. They will try steal your deposit. They tried with me it took me 6weeks to get my deposit minus $200 for a scratch that was on the stove from when I moved in. They NEVER do repairs. You cant get them the phone. They will increase your rent from $80 to a $100 with the story they have to meet market value. IF YOU CAN AVOID THEM DO SO... HORRIBLE
Avoid at all costs! Properties are not well maintained, leasing agents are completely unresponsive, and when all is said and done, they will swindle you out of a security deposit. I’d rather live on the 1 train than any property managed by Chestnut, both in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan.
The super was very unresponsive and rarely seen - plus, he barely spoke English so communication with him was extremely difficult and unclear. Contact with the company is near-impossible - if you call, all you get is an automated response telling you to use their website, which only allows you 150 characters to explain your issue, while their responses are as long as they want AND they come from accounts that are ultimately unmonitored so you cant reply to them.The apartment we rented was disgusting - bugs everywhere, no matter how well you cleaned it. No real rules/policies so neighbors could have parties endlessly and blast music as late as they felt. Super was rude - we had an in-apartment emergency and we had to call 911 when he was unresponsive, and he actually got mad at us for doing so!The company gave us unclear directions when we moved out on key return, and so decided to take our entire security deposit for a month after our lease ended and we no longer lived there, plus had the nerve to charge us damages on top of that.If youre moving to NYC and especially the Bronx, I cannot say this enough - DO NOT RENT FROM CHESTNUT HOLDINGS. You will regret it if you do.
If i could give 0 stars or less, i definitely would. Horrible management team , seems impossible to reach its like no one owns or even works. Full building is infested with rats and roaches, as much as you try to maintain everything clean in your own home they come from everywhere. No one cleans, checks up the building. Absolutely the worst building to ever move in to honestly. They charge you 3+ months rent in advance when only 1 month is being due, and continually send court letters to pay rent that still hasn’t even been due. Highly disgusting building not safe at all for kids. Be aware please, this building deserves no ones hard earned money.
I am utterly disgusted with their inhumane treatment of their tenants! I will continue to do all in my power to make this known to as many people as I can. I will continue contacting the Borough President, City Council, the Governor if I have too. They fail to understand that, contrary to their belief not every Bronx resident is clueless to their rights as tenants. Until they begin to treat every tenant, regardless of ethnicity or location of residence, the same they will continue to receive horrible reviews and loose out on future tenants.This management company is, in summary, a joke. Their office is non existent now. Everything is to be sent to a PO Box and you literally never meet or can get in contact with your Property Manager. I looked into their reviews on Glassdoor to see what current/old employees had to say and one review even stated that: “Chestnut has also started contacting residents to alter Google reviews”. This does not surprise me at all, the decent reviews they receive do seem skeptical and most of them are in reference to their Manhattan properties.I have been living at their 2090 property for 5 years. My biggest issue is the lack of heat. I get to my apartment at 6 PM and touch the radiator and it is ice cold. During the weekends when I am home for the entirety of the day I can literally count on one hand the amount of times the heat comes on. It appears to me that they have a timer on the boiler, which is illegal. My apartment is freezing. My electricity bill is through the roof due to the use of space heaters. I have complained so many times through out the years and just feel so drained after and nothing gets done. In the past it was just my husband and I so we made the best of it, and continue to live there because of its accessibility to our jobs, but we now have a baby and I REFUSE for my child to be subjected to freezing temperatures within our home. When you ask for a transfer they do not help. I finally got in contact with Cynthia our Property Manager to explain to her my frustration with the lack of heat and to let her know we now have an infant in the apartment and this is an outrage. She was very dismissive and said that they do give heat and began to recite to me the law, as if I am an idiot whose unaware of what the law mandates as adequate heat for the months of October – May. You can’t tell me that the heat is on when I am touching the radiator and it is ice cold, when I have to wear multiple layers of clothing to even feel the least bit warm within my apartment. My rent was increased by $200 this year YET my apartment is, without exaggeration, FREEZING.My advice to all tenants dealing with issues within their apartment is contact your City Council member, the Borough President, 311, anyone in a position of power. Together we can put an end to their unfair and ILLEGAL practices. Don’t let them continue to treat their Bronx residents with disrespect while the landlord continues to get rich off of our hard earned money. We pay rent, it is their duty to meet our needs. Educate yourselves on tenant/landlord rights. My advice to anyone thinking about moving into an apartment managed by this company, dont.
This is the worst apartment to live in 2345 Tiebout Ave. The management does not respond to repair request online and neither by phone , the super will never respond either. The refrigerator leaks into the apartment for 2 months now but they are refusing to repair it for me and the apartment is infested with roaches, they started chewing my new carpets, pls don’t move in this apartment . With all the reviews am reading here, l am not going to pay my rent from today and save all reviews for the court to take over, we are not animals to be living in this situation. The super will close the gabbage place without any notice.
RENTER BEWARE!!!!!!! ROACH INFESTED APARTMENTS!!!! Any building owned by Chestnut Holdings is terrible!!! I lived in 1372 nelson for four years and it was a nightmare!!! The super Juan never fixes anything! He is the laziest super I have ever met in my life! I dont even know how he has that job. You literally have to call and text him a million times, call the office a million times and they NEVER ANSWER! The super tries to avoid you and walk the other way when he sees you in person because he knows he did not fix your repair. Even the neighbors in other buildings talk about how they hear that Juan never fixes the issues! Even if you submit a form online through Chestnut, and once they contact you, you cannot reply to the email. You have to submit another form just to write a response! Ashley (the property manager), at extension 325 never contacts you back either!!! Zohar (the field manager) will reply to you once in a blue moon but he is just as bad as them.In the four years that I have lived there, my ceiling in the bathroom has fell, the cabinet broke off two days after I moved in, the sink leaked all over the kitchen every time you turned it on, the bathroom sink gets clogged, the refrigerator broke, and the heat has gone off almost all four years in the winter. I had to sleep in a sweat suit on top of my night clothes almost every night in the winter. The ROACHES ARE INSANEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! Every single apartment in the building is infested with roaches!!!! Plenty of people have moved out because of this! They are literally crawling outside of your apartment door as well as inside of the apartment!! I kept my apartment extremely clean but it was still infested. They were even crawling in the apartment in the daytime! The pest control guy comes once every few months and he barely does anything.There has been at least four occasions where I had to run out of the elevator because there was flying waterbugs in there with me. The elevator is CONSTANTLY broken!!!! Almost every other day it is broken. I lost count how many times I have gotten stuck in the elevator. My doorknobs were improperly installed from when I moved in. I have gotten stuck in my apartment several times. I needed the doorknobs to be replaced and it took the super over two months to do it!!! My refrigerator was broken for the last month that I lived in the apartment and because they knew that I was moving out, they never fixed it and I had to pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket to buy food because I could not use the fridge. Now that I moved out not only did they keep my entire rent deposit, but they charged me an additional $650, totaling $1800!!! They charged $1000 for paint!!! I am currently taking them to court but I seriously advise anyone who is thinking about moving in to their apartments not to. All of the bad reviews are accurate. They are terrible!!
Please try to avoid renting from these people. They really do not care about the conditions in which their tenants live in. I have lived in my current house for about 7 years now. Before it was owned by another real estate and they repaired just fine, but since Chestnut Holdings bought the building in which I have in, there have not been any repairs been done. I have had water leaking from the ceiling of our bathroom and kitchen for several years now. Not matter how many repair requests I put in, they always reject it. These people are scammers that only know how to collect rent but now how to invest in their properties.
Im sorry but I totally disagree with all the reviews which I have read about this company. I have been living in one of their buildings for almost two years. My property manager Miriana is completely professional and always answers every one of my questions when I have any. My apartment is wonderful and my super Hector is the best. Ive even gotten locked out of my apt. once on a Sunday and he was there dropping everything he was doing with his family within 10 minutes. Move in was totally easy. I got the key a day before when I signed the lease and everything else is very good. The apartment was great when I moved in. I really dont know what everybody is talking about. The place is toasty warm in the winter, I have no vermin as they send somebody to the building twice a month. The hallways are washed at least once a week and the garbage rooms cleaned once a day. My neighbors are cool and they really do a great job upkeeping the building.Chris
Absolutely the worst!! They NEVER answer their phones, or get back to tenants when they reach out!! Dont try to go to the office to handle matters in person; no one will open the door. I have an elderly parent that I care for, they refuse to allow me to speak on her behave, and she is sitting right next to me when we talk! The WORST management company weve ever had!! I have no idea what defenses the tenants have against these bullies!!!
I only put a star to submit this post and warn others to Do yourself a huge favor and avoid renting any apartments from CHESTNUT! They are impossible to reach and never return calls for repairs.Even after calling 311 and having issued building violations - they falsely reach out and confirm repairs were complete! If your a month late due to unfinished repairs - they do not attempt to contact you to communicate why - they instantly file legal papers to take you to court and throw an additional $200 on your rent statement to cover their legal fees. The yearly rent increases at a ridiculous rate. From $100- $200 additional and you have to add to your security deposit. NO HEAT all winter. My 7yr old child suffered with asthma and severe colds and flu due to insufficient heating. I was forced to purchase two radiators and leave my oven on for HEAT just to keep us warm through the winter; which made my electricity/gas bills extremely high. CHESTNUT HOLDINGS refused to give discount/credit on rent due to their LACK of heat throughout their building. LACK of communication / LACK of repairs / Chestnut Holdings should be sued and nonexistent !! If I express how many times I needed to call out of work with no pay (as a single mother) to deal with these landlords youd be disgusted.
I just recently moved in and the apartment wasnt bad. I enhanced the floors myself because I wanted a better look. Most repairs were done when I contacted the super. The major problem is the hallway of the building; its never clean, especially the ground floor that reaks of a rank urine smell. If you would see my apartment, you would not believe its in this building.
I have been living in a studio apartment in the Bronx for the past 4 years that has been managed by Chestnut Holdings. When I originally moved in, they were not the owners of the building. Throughout the years they have managed my building, they have been unresponsive, inconsiderate, unprofessional, and indifferent. They NEVER answer phone calls! Dont bother leaving a voice mail message or using their website to submit concerns because THEY WILL NOT RESPOND!! Youre going to have to take time off from work to address any concerns you may have IN PERSON! Public transportation there is a nightmare, so be ready for a long commute there if youre not driving. They are only open 4 hours 4 days a week (Mon- Thurs 11a-3p). This penny pinching cheap landlord will not make any repairs! Even complaint calls to 311 doesnt resolve any issues! And now this is the straw that broke the camels back. Each year they have raised my rent 2-4% and now they want to raise my studio apartments rent by 30%!!! There is a 1-bedroom apartment that is in my same building on the market right now that is going for $200 less than my studio. DOES THIS MAKE SENSE TO ANYONE!?!? DO NOT RENT AN APARTMENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!! ALL WEBSITE REVIEWS WARN YOU! STAY AWAY!!!
I moved about 3 years ago in July 2017 and all I can say is that the management company doesn’t care about their tenants. I have reached out to Chestnut Holdings plenty of times about the upkeep of the building and the fact that other tenants leave their garbage out in the hall way there’s has been more and more of a roach problem and the super doesn’t nothing about keeping the hall ways and the staircase clean. If you’re considering getting an apartment with chestnut holdings do yourself a favor don’t especially with the neighborhoods their apartments are located there’s nothing but noise and excessive parting and drinking I can’t even begin to explain to you how many noise complaints I have placed.
These people are the worst. Very unprofessional and rude. Worst customer service. Welfare, DMV, and Medicaid office employees work faster than they do and actually get stuff done. They hire lousy superintendents that dont speak English and cant perform the necessary functions of maintaining a livable environment for their tenants, such as knowing how to operate a boiler. They will fix up the hallways in a heartbeat in order to raise the rent before they fix the insulation or heat problem INSIDE the apartments. These apartment windows are poorly insulated. All they do is throw a bunch of plaster and paint on every problem. The hallways are always dirty and the garbage is handled by a homeless man instead of the super. No one ever answers the phone or returns calls at the office. They hire a bunch of people under the influence to renovate an apartment before you move in. You would think these building managers are out in the field doing something but clearly theyre not. I will spread the word about this place as much as I can. DO NOT SIGN A LEASE WITH THESE PEOPLE. If I could give them ZERO stars I would! Its funny how theyll answer to the positive feedback but not the negative! Nothing to say Im sure!
I am very perplexed on all the negative reviews of this company. I lived at one of their properties on West 83rd street for 3 years and never had one issue with them. I should preface this by saying this was a pre-war building so you would think there would have been a lot of problems and issues. Rarely did I have an issue the super could not fix. I absolutely loved my apartment and my life here.They always kept a very clean building. The laundry room was clean and washers and dryers will always working. Occasionally, one would break but it was always fixed by the next day. Heat worked great as well which was so nice to come home to. I always loved coming back to my apartment in the middle of February because I always knew it would be nice and cozy. Every now and then we would not have hot water, but that has happened at every place I have lived at since I have been renting. When the hot water was not working, the super would have it up and running within a couple hours.I rarely had to deal with the management company or even the super because the building was maintained so well. I can’t say enough great things about the super, Jorge and the property manager, Miriana. They are both very professional and really look out for their tenants. The only reason why I had to move is because I needed a larger place. If it weren’t for that, I would still be there.I would recommend Chestnut Holdings to anyone who is looking for a management company who really takes care of their tenants.Regards,Howard
The absolute worst company to deal with! Ive lived here less than a year and it hasnt gotten better. I wish I had listened to the reviews before signing a lease with this company. First things first the do the bare minimum when it comes to maintenance. Ive complained for months about mold in the roof. Still no-one has come out to fix the problem. Ive called because my living room light flickers when the switch is off. Its been a year its still not fixed. If you can rent elsewhere do so. They are the worst!
I have been living in my apartment for 3 years now on Washington Ave and in that time I have been experiencing the worst of the worst with the building and my apartment. Management are never around to address any issues one may have. The super doesnt speak English and is a pervert and very unprofessional. He never knows anything and isnt responsible for any thing. I dont understand how they hire all these unprofessional people. I am so tired of this place and cant wait to leave. Chestnut Holdings is a company that I would NEVER recommend to anyone. All they care about is receiving their rent. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH CHESTNUT HOLDINGS.
I just moved out of one of Chestnuts sponsor units in the West Village, and I had a great experience with them as a landlord. When I moved in, there were changes I wanted to make (install an electrical outlet in the bathroom, dimmer switches, touch up paint), and they were responsive and helpful. Once, the dishwasher stopped working, and they had a repairman come out within a few days. I get the impression the folks who handle requests like these have a lot of properties to cover and are extremely busy, but Eric knew who I was when I called and was professional, friendly, and responsive.In the business office, I worked mostly with Miriana, who also was responsive when I had questions. Towards the end of the lease, when I was trying to work out my transition to another place, and my move was not going to line up with my lease-end date, Chestnut was terrific. They were extremely reasonable (generous, actually) in working out terms, and they returned my security deposit in full promptly after I moved out.I would not hesitate to rent from them again, because they were great to me. I suspect that some of the bad reviews come from people who arent respectful or professional tenants.
I’ve lived at the 2875 Bainbridge location In the Bronx for 5 years now and at first the building was well kept and repairs were answered quickly by the super and management. But the last three years have been a terror the hallways are no longer cleaned in the mornings or if at all somedays, the mail box’s are old and the locks are rugged I had to call in and pay for a locksmith myself to fix it, the laundry room is full of roaches and the machines are never cleaned, the windows suck they fog up and cause mildew, the stair cases are dark and it looks like it hasn’t been painted since the early 2000’s, the steps are always full Of cigarette buds.I had a child last year and it states in my lease that I should have an inspection from management for window guards and to check the paint in the apartment they have not comeOr have said anything to me but They sure increased our rent on time once I signed. Reading these reviews it seems more like they pay closer attention to their downtown property more than any other location they own. I hopefully things to getbetter but please look at the area your moving too before you sign a lease with them. Hope this helps.

I have been leaving at 1175 Morris Ave since 2014 and I am a hard working tenant who isnt late on payments and if you were to review my record I usually pay before the 1st. I just got my new lease and you are raising my rent $250 for a 1yr lease and $350 for a 2 yr. Are you aware that your people havent even repaired my apt and to top it all of your rep assigned to my apt Ashley at Ext 325 has attempted to take me to court to evict me. How dare you not give your residents livable housing conditions and then try to get them kicked out using any means possible. I am taking this to all the NYC Councilmen and wont stop till you are held accountable for all that you are doing. You barely give any heat and hot water, dont want to repair the apt you are renting to us, like if we dont deserve to be treated as human beings who work hard to pay you for the apts we are legally renting. You have already driven out 3 other tenants because you are sending lease renewals with up to a $400 increase. And on top of that when I tried to contact Ashley ext.325 she wont pick up the line or call me back and she only responds via the stupid website you have which is useless. I even took a day of work to try and speak to her yesterday so she could explain why the drastic raise on the lease renewals but was told via a speaker system by who knows whothat she would not see me. Do you think thats how you should treat yor loyal tenants who work hard to make ends meat and pay their rent. What a shame!!! I had to write to Ashley at ext 325 via the stupid website to ask why my rent was being increased so much and she offered to reduce it by $25. I can tell you this Mr . Weilder I wont rest till every single NYS Councilman knows about the injustice you are doing to all your tenants and you are held accountable for your actions.
If I could give them a -1000 stars I would. This is the worst management company in the planet. They will harass you and send notices about rent but don’t even have accurate bill/rent receipts. Never manage the building well/always break-ins, overcharges for faulty property in all aspects. Don’t sign with them. You’ll regret it for years to come.

This really is a 0. 1 star is way too high for them. This Management Company is trash. If you have an issue call 311 get everything on file with the city. Make sure you take your won pictures and screenshot every email or online submission sent to these people. They really try to play games. i put in a repair request, they had the super show up at my door at 1:36 pm in the afternoon and put a note stating they came by. Which working person is home at 1:36 pm without prior notice???????????????? They do not have a direct phone number, they say to do everything through the online system, There is not person to person contact besides the the super they like to use as a cover.
The absolute worst management company I’ve ever dealt with. If I could give less than one star I would. They are completely unresponsive in matters of lease signing and renewals. Nobody ever picks up the phone or returns your emails or calls. They stood my roommate up after making her travel to their office in the Bronx to sign the lease. She waited two hours and they never showed.
The WORST management company EVER. Very unprofessional, never can get a hold of them, just a hot MESS. They will never update you if there is an issues with your rent or lease. The will do anything and everything to break your lease unless you go toe to toe with them with evidence. This company deserve a 0 STAR because they are horrible. I don’t think they even deserve a star at all. I lived in 1504 Sheridan Ave paying very high rent. For two straight years I have been calling n reporting a hole in a kitchen where mice keep coming through, but the only response I ever received was the exterminators are coming or super tells me that pulling the cabinet is expensive work to do. I told them time n time again that my mother is having a Matasteis breast cancer n a son with a comprise digestive system that house should by all means not be infested but they never cared to even come take a look. They are so inhuman. The worst management I ever encountered. Very poor customer service.
The worst company ever there is no communication with them is all by email on their website which it never gets answer. The rented us an apt where there was no cooking gas for more than 6 mo and we were never told when signing the lease which I considered a scam, we now have 3 mo and still no gas and no answer on when we will do the building now has 9 mo with no cooking gas unexceptable. This management company is the worst.
It unbelievable how you treat your tenants. I’m so frustrated the way you conduct business. Phone, fax, email, No feedback. I have sent you important documents from The Veterans Affairs, and You did nothing. Negligence and No consideration.I even drove to your Riverdale office. The sign says: Only with Appointment. Really bad service.Because of Duty, I have been so patient till now. All of this will come to an end soon. I’m not treating you. Consumers/Renters have rights in this country.
2630 Marion Ave. Bx. First it was Zohar, then Gina and Mike, they schedule for inspection and never show up. I ve missed work several times and dont get discounts on the rent or my repairs. The super seems to favor single female tenants. Call office; if you re lucky they pick up and refer you to the website or the super but nothing happens after that. I guess their undisclosed policy is to focus on their high-ends neighborhood and just collect rent on the rest. Advice to anyone trying to rent from them; just don’t, you’ll regret it.
Chestnut holding 🤦🏽♀️ Is the WORST !!!!!!! This people don’t deserve not even half of the star...but is the only way to send the message....Every single worker from the súper to the managers are the worst none of them do their job, we the tenants have to put up with their attitudes plus the fact that they don’t fix jack or even give heat. I live in the 2050 valentine ave building and is infected with rats, bedbugs and Rouches. I need a new stove cause the one they gave me was from the garbage. It came all messed up, and I have let them know about it since the moment they brought it to me like 2 years ago now and still nothing, all they care about is their rent money and for us tenants to live in this nasty condition while they live like queens and Kings. Don’t BOTHER on DOING business with this people because you will regret it. They are the WORST nothing gets FIX in their properties.
I live 1200 from college ave on the first floor the super never clean and less if snow falls, the back of the building the yard is full of trash, the mice have parties every night,the dirty super, you have to give him a good tip to repair, something, otherwise you never see him even in the photos 😤😡
People I know I’ve mentioned this before, I’m just trying to help many of you who are looking for a place to be comfortable, happy, and that your place be in good condition. Chestnut holdings is not your place. I have attached pictures of the condition I’m living in right now.I have two holes in my kitchen wall and I have no sink, today is the 3rd or 4th day of me being in this situation and I’m pretty sure I have more days to go. I know they doing this with the purpose of me getting desperate and to just move out of here, so that they can higher the rent how they please, but I won’t give them that power, I rather see them getting summons (in which they don’t care they have more violations than who know who) and for me continue in this situation but I won’t move. This people with power and money think they can treat us like dirt. And enough is enough. So please don’t rent from chestnut holdings.
Chestnut Holdings is a terrible organization!I asked for their help three time... But nobody came to help me. Theres a leak in my toilet and three weeks already I have been living in a hazardous and unlivable conditions! Their negligence is next too impossible!!! I pay rent regularly but in return I get such disrespectful attitude - they do not answer calls and emails.I really DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR LIVING!
I have lived in The Mango (mid-town east) for the past 20 years. My experience living here has been wonderful. It is a modest, quiet building where the doormen and maintenance crew have been nothing if not attentive and caring. All buildings have issues. But, when problems crop up, Benny and his staff are always available (that includes weekends and holidays). And whatever work has needed to be done on my apartment or on the building facilities in general, has been done as quickly and efficiently as possible. For example, after the recent snowfall, the sidewalks around The Mango were clean and snow free before any of the sidewalks around the so-called luxury buildings in the neighborhood were clean. Let me end by pointing out that the gym, the renovated laundry room, the roof deck and the party room have been recent upgrades to the building that have made living here even more desirable............
Ive lived in The Mango, located in Midtown Manhattan owned by Chestnut Holdings. I have had an amazing experience, the staff and management had been so helpful and professional with all the work they have done for me. The building management has done a lot of improvements in the building to make a better living for the tenants. I would recommend Chestnut Holdings to everyone who loves to be in a friendly and clean environment to live in.
They are trying to BLATANTLY STEAL my deposit with FAKE completely fabricated damages I am in the process with Attorney General of New York AND small claims to get what is mine, I will take all the time in the world until I receive what is owed to me - it has been 5 weeks since I have heard from them - they do not answer phones, reply to emails, follow through and when they do, its on their time, which can be a year after you make an enquiry. Man. I feel for people in most socioeconomic backgrounds but God, it irks me that people keep messing with the working class. The people who have issues going on at home and dont have the luxury of being home during business hours. The people who dont have time to argue with the landlord between 9 to 5 because they have to go work and cant be home. For close to 6 years Ive had to deal with this slumlord CHESTNUT HOLDINGS who was COURT ORDERED to fix certain problems that they never fixed in my home and theyve had me take off several days off over the years for them to come, assess the problem, go on lunch and not come back. I have health issues I have to deal with and a job Im trying to keep. How can property managers sleep at night knowing people they are charged with helping dont have adequate housing? AND THEY KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT BECAUSE HOUSING IS NOT A LUXURY, ITS A NECESSITY.
MUST READ! Im at 1487 teller ave. I informed my super monday,thursday ,and friday morning of a gas leakage in the apartment(which he ignored and never followed up). Friday evening 6pm I told him again because the smell was unbarerable. His response was he works 9-5 and thats not his problem his having dinner and to dont bother him, while wife was harassing me and then slams the door in my face. A few minutes later one of my children past out and myself (which Im pregnant) my youngest was able to call 911 and we was all rushed to the er. This happened friday today is Tuesday and no one has followed up with the apartment of the tenants. I havent received a call back from management or an email. Worst part this is the second time it occur. First, time it took them over a year to follow up with the situation.
Deserves a Negative zero in starsThe worst company EVER. I lived in a nice neighborhood that looked BEAUTIFUL on the outside. The inside was a completely different story. Their condos at Stadium avenue are TERRIBLE. Water bugs and mice infected. You’ll fall for the exterminator comes around every month just sign the list... it’s bogus. I’ve seen the exterminator 3 times out of 2 years and my name was ALWAYS on the list whenever they decided to create one for the month. I had a newborn who couldn’t sleep in his own room because the mice and water bugs took over. I’m not talking about one or two a week of both species. Way more. No exaggeration. If we caught one I was like horray we got em. And next thing you know. Here comes his cousin. We caught his cousin. Then his brother, sister, child. It was a non stop nightmare. My son had breathing issues from all the dropping’s from the water bugs and mice. I just kept sweeping and mopping as much as possible. My fiancé plugged every hole and then patched it up. I mean EVERY HOLE. I would clean my dinning table walk in my room walk back out. Droppings on my damn table. When I reached out to them (and I’ll post the emails if I have to) you’ll see they don’t give a damn. They respond with exterminator blah blah. He did nothing but drop off traps and black boxes with poison that did nothing. I purchased my own damn traps I didn’t need him for that. When asked if I could be transferred to another building chestnut declined. I was living in hell. So I packed up and moved to Florida. BEEN HAPPY EVER SINCE. My management company here is AMAZING. No water bugs no mice and that’s how it should be. Not my son crawling on a just mopped floor and when I turn my head a mouse drops a load behind my back and I have to hold my son hostage because I don’t want him near the droppings. Just get rid of the entire building on stadium. When you talk to neighbors they are all just used to it. Hell no. Not me. Go to a Managment company that cares and answers emails and helps solve problems. You’ll be happier somewhere else. I have so many pictures I could post and should post to back up my claims. But I’m not petty and I hope this post helps someone in their future. Don’t choose CHESTNUT HOLDINGS !!
They are not nice people, i have kids coming in to live with me and wanted to transfer to a 2 bedroom but they told me i meeded to come up with a yearly income of almost $190, 000 in other words its thier way of saying yhey dont care they wont help us. There are rats, roaches and bedbugs in the apartment. They dont pick up the phone when you call and no heat most of the time during the winter.
Rude people, you call the office to speak to the manager they never answer. I moved in to this apartment about 5 months ago , rats everywhere, roches nasty building always dirty people smoking in the stairs . Don’t waist your time . The super was suppose to come fix the water from the tub cause every time you open it the water goes down to the 4th this was about 4 months ago this happened and he is still yet to come to my house . Only remembers when ever the water goes downstairs.
Another 1 star review for Chestnut Holdings. Run by a slumlord, Chestnut Holdings has cheap apartments, but they are roach infested, leaky slums. In addition to the terrible living conditions, they would not refund my deposit. I left the apartment clean, on-time, and I always paid my rent on-time. Now I have to waste my time and theirs by taking them to small claims court. Fun!BOTTOM LINE: Listen to all the other reviews and do not do business with Chestnut Holdings.
I just signed a lease in the West Village with Chestnut Holdings. My lease started today, and the property management representative has not given me the keys to my apartment. I had to cancel the movers and now I am literally homeless because Chestnut Holdings has not only failed to return my calls and emails, but they have managed to avoid giving me the keys to my own apartment!

Friday No HOT WATER NEVER, And when you call the company or write a report they Just don’t care 🤷🏻♂️ I have been writing emails about Water leaking from the kitchen Sink the Super know about it But he never fix it, the mail broken waiting for the parts it has been months.. entrance door and all around the door very old have to push hard to close but they dont wanna pay the money to fix it.. TOILET wasn’t Replaced when we first move Looks Old/ molds.. The walls are literally breaking from the top, MICE infection Under the Bathtub and Kitchen Cabinet really gross just to listen to this while someone is seating in the toilet or Cooking in the Kitchen.. the Apartment is full of Roaches don’t have any Idea where The hell it come from... I lived at 84-55 Daniels street for a total of four years. My lease ended on June 30, 2016. In early June I called Miranna of chestnut holdings regarding my security deposit and she said to mail her the address so she could send the security deposit in about 30 days or so... it has now been about 80 days and still no security deposit. I have called numerous of times leaving messages and no return call. This is rediculous.

The worst management company ever. If you call, nobody picks up the phone. Very unprofessional staff. The heat in the building at 2857 Valentine Ave. is Horrible especially at night time.They never respond to their voicemails.For big repairs in the apartment, you have to go to the court with proof(pictures, date taken, etc) and they want that you paid for their Lawyer fees. I sit here and read all of these bad reviews. No one ever takes the time to write a good review about this management company!Since Ive been involved with them, I havent had any issues. Whenever I contact them, theyve been on top of things and respond in a few days. So far, whenever I had any questions or issues, theyve responded promptly. Dont get turned away by all the negative feedback! I personally havent had any issues and would recommend them!
Worst property management company ever. I vacated my apartment 4 months ago and still havent received my security deposit back. They never answer the phone, have the most inconvenient work hours, and rarely respond to online requests submitted through their website. STAY FAR AWAY!
Ive lived in the Mango since 2004 and NYC since 1984. Ive never seen a more committed or competent Super than Benny Radoncic. He manages the building with a keen eye to detail and a no-nonsense attitude. His attention to detail and his work ethic are admirable. If there was an issue with leaks or gas, Benny was on it! It was always fixed asap. In short, I always knew that Benny and the wonderful doormen would make sure that the building was safe and secure. I would recommend this team to everyone! Well done Benny!! Thanks for everything!
If you have a choice dont use this company, they are thieves , they never look out for the best interest of the tenants, they would do anything to evict you if you have a long time living there so they can raise the rent for the next tenant, heat problems, cleanliness of the building is awful. if you can do better please do yourself a favor and let chestnut holdings be your last choice if you can

The only reason i didnt go to another management company this year is because, I didnt have enough to pay to moving to another management company for an apartment for this year. I have needed repairs in my apartment for almost a month, with a fallen ceiling and a broken kitchen cabinets that has an intruder(a big 🐀rat).....Just found out that a job order has been filed for a Contractor to come in..Today is 9/7/18....My roof fell 3weeks ago?????!!!!Whats. The receptionist is one of the worst i have dealt with. The repair department does not respond and the Manager never returns my phone calls. The superintendent gives me the run around every day and does nothing to solve the problems. They will contact you through different channels if they want your money, but do not answer to their responsiblities.
Horrible landlord. Continuously adds on bogus fees with no explanation and expects you to pay. Repairs are done whenever they get around to it. Building is only swept and mopped. Spider webs all over staircases. Hallway walls look terrible. Look like it hasn’t been painted in 10 years. They only pay attention to the lobby area. STAY AWAY!!!!!
They get zero and if I could rate it any lower I would. They said no pets, but two tenants on my floors have dogs. They want to pretend they do screening for all tenants, which is a lie. I have the two worst neighbors in the city. I am sure they dont even pay the rent on time, but they still live there.

The Management person named Nicole Manchand has no respect or morals when speaking to some about anything having to do with their apartment, she cuts you of, doesnt let you speak and even hangs up on people that are calling about very important issues pertaining to their apartment. The operator on their office switchboard will cut you off when you ask to speak to someone and switch you to voicemail. Then they never respond to their voicemails. They are unresponsive to complaints - drug dealers, noise, trash and fireworks IN the building. They dont seem to care.
The building management was very responsive and helped us when we needed them the most - my partner and I needed some urgent documents regarding our apartment for a green card application and they provided everything we needed within 24 hours. Thank you for your help!

I just moved in at 1365 Sheridan Av Bronx, NYNovember 2018 the apt very nice BUT the first problem I have right now is that we found out we got BEDBUGS never had that before, I’ve been calling and calling no one answer de phone until one day they did and did not helpe me solved the problem, so I came to see the reviews and is incredibly how bad just found out they are and I’m very disappointed.
This a complaint for Mr. WeilderRegarding Property Manager Nicole at Ext.377Propert manager Nicole is a very unhelpful and has a very disgusting attitude towards the tenants who she is in charge of assisting. If she is called or is asked to be seen in person at the office she says she is not available and doesnt return any calls. I am currently going through the courts to have my apt repaired and she stated that repairs is not her dept. She also gave me the extension to where you leave mesgs so that repairs can be requested, which in my case is not needed since the courts already set the dates and time my repairs are to be done on. Aside from this Nicole is also very unprofessional, she handles her tenants question as jokes never giving a clear and understand answer, and making it impossible for them to get any assistance with any of there issues be it with lease issues or anything that pertains to her assistance. This property manager is part of the reason why Chestnut Holdings LLC has such a bad reputation, her incompetence and unprofessional manner with all current and future tenants will ever see and judge it by unless some serious changes are made.

The worst agency that exists I am 6 years old they do not paint my doors it is defective I have a pot on the roof for about a year these people do not return mail or take calls this is worse than it exists but if they are nice to charge the 200 super marcy is the worst thing that exists lazy only fixes the one who pays

2022-01-21The attraction for these apartments is solely based on the space available. However, thats where the pros end. For starters, getting in contact with management is impossible. Youre assigned a property manager and field manager but both are no where to be found when requesting repairs. When repairs are finally made, the end results are not satisfactory at all. The materials used are either cheap or they dont have the specific materials or tools to complete jobs. Also, the building is infested with mice and roaches. Tenants are not considerate when disposing garbage and eventually, a horrible smell haunts the floors. If youre looking for space and space only, this will please you but the other issues should not be ignored. They also hire supers who do not want to work, not experienced and are also unresponsive to requests for repairs. Stay clear of any apartments that are managed by this company.

2022-04-10Worst landlord ever. If you need anything.. you cannot meet any one in person . You cannot leave proper explanation on website because it only contains but few words. I had an emergency that didnt permit me to finish my lease they wouldnt let me out of my contract without penalty or finding a new tenant. I found a new tenant but when the lease was finally over they wouldnt give lease a new lease to the new tenant without increasing the rent an extraordinary amount. They kept the lease under my name 5 months after the lease was over. This place is a nightmare. after the tenants left they slapped with over 2000.00 dollars in damages. And the new tenants left the got a better apartment, 2 bedroom with a personal landlord that has an office in the building an is available for almost the same price of the 1 bedroom. These guys are mafiosos. Crooks. They never fix anything either.

2022-02-06This has been the worst experience ever renting! There’s never any heat. I’ve been going on 4 months with a broken sink, we moved in 2019 the toilet was cracked never changed now it’s leaking, the people upstairs installed a ice machine causing a leak in my kitchen! My fridge has been broken going on 2 months! I call never get to speak to the “unit manager” Ashley her mailbox is always full! I send emails to the repair portal and the only thing I get back is from the súper is why am I complaining!!! For the record I pay my rent on time even through the pandemic never missed a payment! I may have to go to the court and file a slumlord complain!

2021-12-02The most horrible coop management. They never respond they never come fix anything. Everything you need to fix you pay out of pocket and they will never cover anything. They never respond to any calls, maintenance request, or any concerns that you have. Stay away from this company their apartments are cheap quality and not worth the money they ask. If i could give 0 star i would. Save yourself time and nerves. Never rent from them.

2021-12-23I have to break my lease for safety reasons and they want to charge me for the remainder of rent in the lease , forfeit my deposit and pay for damages . In my 7 years of living under this slumlord , I’ve endured no heat and mice and roach infestations. Don’t rent from them ! They won’t fix anything and will make it really hard for you to leave !

2021-10-07I wish I could give this Property Management Company zero stars. Worst experience being a past tenant vacating premises. Beware of this company when you choose a place to live. They have given my children, husband and myself hell for vacating. First of all they have absurd penalty charges for leaving behind a light fixture ($50), window shade/curtains ($150 for each one) and a wall decal in the bathroom ($50). Mind you, none of these items come close to price when purchased. This company is also negligent and unprofessional only wanting to take tenants money. Negligent in the sense that for 3 days straight in the beginning of this past September we had no hot water with an infant and child. Multiple tenants complaining to 311 may have temporarily fixed the issue. On another note the horrible marijuana and cigarette smoke entering our apartment. Nothing done. Had to purchase multiple air purifiers on OUR OWN to get rid of the stench for fear of SIDS with my infant. But are they willing to reimburse me then???? Absolutely NOT. 2022-06-03Have been renting a commercial space for 2 ½ years and have had multiple problems since day one ....basement flooding bricks falling off main entrance, rats, mold and have been filling complaints and lawsuits and all we here is my field team is on it ...no one ever shows.......if I could put zero stars I would.
