I have been a fan of Gratefully Yours for quite sometime. The usually do shows in a wide area of Northeast and more. The shows typically are on Friday and Saturday. Well, that does not jibe with my regular employment. So I had been telling Alex, a founder, that Ill get to a show when you play on a Sunday. The Dutch Apple Cruise line has them play for A Celebration of Jerry Garcias Birthday, Aug 1. This year of covid19, 2020, it fell on Sunday August 2d. Initially I was apprehensive due to the boat being docked. The dockside concert was in a word, Awesome. The staff that kept things smooth and with nothing but kindness and accommodation. So it was a success and I cant wait till next time. I def recommend
I decided to surprise my husband with a sightseeing cruise for our 9 year anniversary, we had a great time aboard this boat, the tour guide very friendly and really made this a great experience. For being late October we had great weather to sit on the tip deck enjoy a few jack and gingers and take in the sights of Albany. We were surprised how many people we actually on the boat for this time of year so I would reccomend making reservations ahead of time and getting there a few minutes prior to boarding time. Great experience thank you for making our anniversary special!
We bought tickets for the Brunch Mothers Day Cruise, and Im SO glad we did. It seemed to be very popular with others too, as we sailed at full capacity. The cruise was a little longer than their standard sightseeing cruise at 2hrs as opposed to 1.5hrs, but just flew by nonetheless! The food was great, and service even better! DJ did an excellent job at gauging the different tastes of the passengers on board, and the scenery was wonderful. ALL staff members, from the captain to the servers and the DJ to the owning family members! We ALL thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I can see this being a new tradition. Mom was beside herself! I would definitely recommend it for ANY mom on Mothers Day (or any other time), just make sure to get your tickets early to avoid any disappointments! Were always happy to support local family businesses, especially when its so enjoyable.
Awesome experience out of dowtown Albany. Rained for about a third of our cruise but we made the most of it, and saw some really cool looking rain clouds. This was a great opportunity for birdwatching: in the two-hour tour I saw herons, geese, ducks, gulls, and 4 bald eagles! Drinks were well-priced as well, $15 for two decently strong Jack & Cokes.
We just love this local cruise on the Hudson. Always lots of fun and informative. And Pat can sure spot those Pellegrine falcons, bald eagles, great blue herons and other wildlife! She has eagle eyes!! A great way to spend a relaxing couple of hours! We go a few times a year, and every time we learn another tidbit of history we didn’t know before.
OUTSTANDING!! Had the Best Afternoon on this Little Cruise on The Hudson River. Very Relaxing, Informative and Enjoyable. Very Reasonably Priced,at only $22 Senior Rate purchased Onboard, $2 Less if purchased Online, prior to cruise. Bald Eagle followed us soaring close looking for food.. Beverages and Food can be purchased Onboard at Very Affordable Prices. Great Beers with many Local Microbrewery Choices.. Friendly Captain, Director and Staff.. Very Easy to get to Dock at Port of Albany.. Try This Enjoyable Afternoon Trip.. You Wont Be Disappointed
Here were the pluses. Friendly, affordable, just the right length, and relaxing.I just wish the guests would have been more interested in listening to the the tour guide ( Pat?) She had interesting things to say but was very hard to hear above the people talking and carrying on. I just never understand how people would sign up to go on a narrated tour and spend the whole time drinking beer and talking. Go to a bar. I give it a B.
Had a fantastic 3 hour tour celebrating a couple I used to work with get married on the boat. Everything from the staff, catered food, actual boat ride and weather was perfect. Another wonderful thing to do in Albany that wont break the bank, is something you can do alone, as a couple or in a group and is the perfect length of time to just sit back and relax.
My wife and kids took me on a Dutch Apple cruise for my Birthday today and we had an absolute blast, we learned so much about the history of area in which we reside as well as the history of the Hudson River as well. We will definitely be frequently taking trips with them thoughout the year. Highly recommend Dutch Apple Cruises for anyone looking for something interesting and fun to do.
This place is really a 3.5. Tour was nice, though really not much to see, just oil tanks and houses. Food was okay for a boat, still not very good, but better than the average for a cruise. Price were actually reasonable, though portion size was very small. Staff was very friendly however.
THE STAFF IS AMAZING!!!!!!!Took the hubby on a sunset cruise and boy was it brisk! We enjoyed our finger foods and drinks on the top deck. Then went down to the mid deck to snap some photos. Before finally going down to the bottom deck to use the restroom and then enjoying a slow dance together in the empty dinning area. Would definitely go on a cruise with the dutch apple crew again! Highly satisfied.
Took their cruise on an extremely hot July weekend.ProsBoat on the waterConsA/C was unable to cool. Standing right in front was a bit better but theres room for only three to do that. There was a local group on the boat. They were extremely noisy to the point that you couldnt hear the narrator unless you stood right by a speaker and even then it was hard to hear. Plus they took up 3/4 of the seats in the air conditioned level. In addition, being local, they acted like they owned the boat.Given the above, we found the tour extremely boring. Maybe its because the Albany river today is just that.ConclusionAt $20 a person it wasnt the worst but sure could have been a lot better.YMMV
I attended a private fundraiser on the Dutch Apple II. The boat itself was was absolutely beautiful with three separate levels for guests to explore. The warm wood interior provided a friendly and comfortable environment while the open air upper deck provided an unrivaled view of the Hudson River. The staff was pleasant, attentive and helpful. I highly recommend experiencing Dutch Apple Cruises & Tours.
I have to say that I havent been on the Dutch Apple for years. This was my sons 21st birthday as well as my mothers birthday. Pat our wonderful tour guide was funny, personable, professional, and just a down-to-earth person. We had a nice time. Thank you very much for making our Day special.
Relaxing boat ride with a bar in the back of the middle level. Shade for all three levels, great PA system for the tour guide. Wish the ride was more scenic than the industrial scenery of Albany. Once we got past this, it was great to see the old mansions and our tour guide spotted a bald eagle in the trees bordering the Hudson.
I did a promo event sponsored by Yelp a few months ago, so my experience may or may not be indicative of a typical tour. The tour lasted about an hour. There was light music on the bottom level, and a description of the scenery on the top. Ample seating, and plenty of food and drinks (including a full bar) to keep everyone comfortable and occupied. The experience of riding along on a boat was nice. Unfortunately, that area of Albany isnt the best for too much incredible scenery; you should expect some amount of industrial feel to the view from time to time.Still, the company put together a nice, relaxing experience that I wound up enjoying. I would say this is a good pick for families or a couple on a date. Nothing too crazy, but still enjoyable in the right company.
Dutch Apple is a hidden gem! I booked a few tickets for me and a few of my nieces and nephews; they had a blast! The crew was so personable and we enjoyed very beautiful views by the River, and even spotted some bald eagles hanging out on trees along the river and flying around us. I will definitely book a cruise again very soon!
The Rocking the Boat for Peace evening event cruise was quite very peaceful and calming out on the decks even with the rain , watching the lightening was magical. The restroom was very well kept. The bar and buffet areas were nice , with tables and chairs and an area for a small band in the bar area also. The top deck had both an open area and a covered area with tables and chairs.
We walked in without a reservation and got tickets for the 1:00 PM cruise, which lasted 1.5 hours. The beautiful scenery and leisurely pace, the stories shared by the tour guide, plus the sighting of several bald eagles (the tour guide was really good at spotting them from a distance) all made for a truly amazing trip! And for $20, it was also very good value for money. The outdoor deck provides the best views but when it gets really hot and/or humid, there is an air-conditioned deck to retreat to. They sell snacks on board but you can bring your own. Free parking near the ticketing office.
This was a private cruise chartered to start the celebration for my brother Nicks wedding weekend. Everything went off like clockwork. Anthony and his fellow worker were great behind the bar. Captain Ron , of course, did a great job. Everyone enjoyed Pete as the narrator and the luncheon buffet was gobbled up and the waitress (I did not get her name) who handled that for Nicoles did a great job. The weather cooperated and was ideal. And we were allowed to fly our family flag. That meant a lot to us. We got tremendous positive feedback from all the guests on board as they all enjoyed the cruise immensely.. It was a great way to kick off the wedding weekend and a special treat for out of town guests who were not that familiar with Albany and its history. Could not ask for a better experience
Visiting Albany for the weekend. I highly recommend signing up for a cruise with Dutch Apple Cruises. It was a lovely tour of the Hudson River, showing the sights and historic attractions of Albany. We also saw bald eagles! They offered refreshments (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and snacks, Restroom was clean and the staff were friendly.
This is a fun low key boat cruise down the Husdon and back. Takes about 2hrs, with some interesting and beautiful sites along the way. There is also a lot of industrial views and on a cloudy day its not quite so luxurious. If you definitely want to sit on the top deck, board early as there is limited space. They also serve beer, wine, cider, hot dogs, chips and candy on board. Theyre website says you can bring outside food, but no outside drinks.
This is our third fundraising cruise on the Dutch Apple from the office staff to the crew on the boat . They are too notch . Very professional, courteous fun group of people. From all of us at the Cruising for Tots we thank you !!! We also recommend if youre in Albany NY looking for something to do look em up!!!
Wonderful cruise! We booked nine people for the 90 minute cruise from Albany on 04/27/2014 and had a great time. We wanted something different for a birthday party and the folks at Dutch Apple were very accommodating. They let us bring balloons and a cake and we went with ordering lunch from Antons through Dutch Apple. (the sandwiches were very generous and delicious). We were all from the Albany area but learned a thing or two from the sightseeing tour. All and all it was a very nice experience.
I snapped an entire afternoon of pictures as the Dutch Apple pleasure excursion made its merry way south on the Hudson River.I snapped pictures of tugboats, barges and yachts under way.I snapped pictures of riverhouses built by Dutch patroons and indentured servants who had succeeded after working off their bonds. At first, I had assumed that the woman talking on the sound system, noting fine points along the river, would be a total annoyance. That attitude didnt last long.Yachts cruised up close so the passengers could call out greetings and our guide returned the favor, greeting each boater by name. She could give intimate details of the riverhouses with the great lawns spread out down to the water line. Most riverhouses started life as Dutch designed houses, altered over centuries to look American outside and inside. Many homes standing still in Albany hide a Dutch house inside. She knew the riverhouses well because all her life, she had cocktails at one or attended a soiree at another or enjoyed a weekend getaway at a third.Maybe she was the last socialite left on that stretch of the Hudson, keeper of the memories of the waterway? She had a remarkable eye for birds, too. The bridge over the Hudson nears no besmirching marks of pigeon lime, so corrosive. She pointed out the Peregrine Falcon box where the State of New York maintained a brood of raptors, raptors that feasted upon pigeons plucked out of midflight.Every heron fishing in the shallows came to her notice and she helped us focus upon these birds in camoflaging plumage. What looked to be a seagull flying in the wind behind our ship turned out to be an Osprey on the wing, searching our prop wash.Because the Hudson thrives with eagles, she taught us to search the treeline up one hundred feet from the water for the distinctive white head of the bald eagle. She called out to us the immature eagles on the wing, working the waters, not yet old enough to show the white pate of the species.Next launch, pack the telephoto lens, went down in my mental notes. The Dutch Apple passed over the stretch of river where a sandbar thwarted the northward passage of Henry Hudsons Halve Maen.A pier of rocks built by the Army Corp of Engineers still struggles to hold that sand bar in check. We cruised a little further south than the appointed turnaround point, maybe because the pilot felt more relaxed on Labor Day.One should experience the view of Albany with its post modern buildings and steampunk towers from the southern waters afforded from the top deck of the Dutch Apple.k6

2022-05-13WWII history buffs would be interested in this little escort ship busy for the US for about 4 years. Ship ended up being sold to a European country before being acquired by this group who refurbished it to commemorate those who served from NY. They do tours and a small gift shop.

2022-06-20The Dutch Apple Fathers Day cruise was a breath of fresh air for me. Fathers day itself can be hard on some families for a variety of reasons and Andrew went above and beyond yesterday. The music was enjoyable, the food delicious, the wind did its thing and the waterway was perfect. The caption and crew were polite and professional adding to a wonderful but tearful day for me. Thank you all and looking forward to another day sometime soon on the Dutch Apple ship and cruise line!

2019-08-22A cool way to spend a hot afternoon. Nice ocean and river breezes provide relief from the heat. However you only get the breeze going one way on the river. This day when we were coming back there was no breeze and it was very hot. The historian, Pat provided interesting stories along the way. My wish was that the cruise could have been longer.
