El Gauchito in other cities:
This restaurant has two parts a dinette section where meals are quickly prepared for those on the go and an actual sit down area for a formal dinner and they can accommodate large parties. We got there a little after 7 and was able to be seated right away. Within a half hour the restaurant was packed for a Tuesday. I got the churasco skirt steak cooked medium and it was perfect. The Milanese beef with ham and cheese was surprisingly AMAZING. Not knowing what to expect I didn’t go for it but realized it’s definitely a winner. I plan on working my way they this menu as everything ordered was divine!
I called for an order to pick up since they don’t offer delivery service and the guy who picked up said they are not taking orders because the restaurant was busy. I think they could of handled it better by telling me it’s an hour or more of a wait time than turning down my order!
When I went, and its been a while now, the service was just fine and they were courteous, but the food was not. The milanesa was dripping oil and the empanadas I got were old. I was SO hungry, I ate anyway. Not sure if this is how it always is and not sure Id visit again because of that experience.
All I’m gonna say is, I went to la uruguaya in Jackson heights and they serve double the quantity for the parrillada para 1 and is even $5 cheaper. Very overpriced. Mfs charge you $10 for 4 churros with dulce de leche. Rather go to la señora in the train station and then buy some arequipe. Again, will get double the amount for half the price.
Went last night to dine al fresco and try something from their very seasoned and excellent Parrilla. The side dishes and appetizers (beets, potatoe salad, empanadas, mixed salad) were on point and the Tomahawk cut was flavorful and cook to perfection. We were four and started with a Rosé de Malbec and to accompany the Brontosaurus rib we had a Luca Malbec, grown at altitude in Mendoza. Great service, fair prices, fully recommend it.
O M G this place food is Soooo Deee-licious!!! From the First appetizer they give you with the ham,Salami, cheese with Tomato with the Chimichurri on it is Soo Good!!! Then had the Breaded chicken with parmesan fries & a plate of Gnocchis in Alfredo sauce... I will definitely retutn & recommend to anyone! I need to try their Grilled meats next! To be continued!....🍞🍲🍮🍗🍖
Argentinians are masters in asados and how to cook red meat! El Gauchito is a cozy spot with attentive staff, clean space, DELICIOUS parrilladas, great wine, and really good desserts! Their meats are always tender, flavored, and they melt in your mouth! I love this spot! Better than a regular shmegular steakhouse! Lol! I love this spot!
My favorite Resturant in all NYC with out exaggeration. I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid. Their skirt steak & cheese ravioli are my favorites but please don’t forget to order the red wine sangria. You won’t regret coming to this place, best food in NYC hands down !
No good service at all. I don’t really like to give bad reviews but I have to give this restaurant a bad review. If you want to eat there, please don’t. If you really like the food, then take it to go. I was waiting for an hour, they promised to put me on a table as soon as they had one available. Three times they had tables available but they decided to move people that were already eating around. So they kept telling me to wait for a table while changing people around, not worth the time. Bad bad bad idea to go eat there
I came here with my friend who is from Argentina . He told me this was the best around and it did not disappoint. Had to wait about 35 minutes for a table on Saturday night but it was well worth the wait. The staff was great!!! The food and Sangria were awesome. So badly wanted the Flan but after the grilled meat platter I could not eat anything more. I loved the Blood sausage which was some of the best Ive ever had. All of the great grilled meat that was on the table and the potatoe salad managed to stand out.
My family has been going here for almost 20 years. The food takes so long but its so worth it. I would rather have prepared food than rushed food. This is how Argentine food is truly made. It takes time. These people treat my family like we are back in Argentina. If you want high quality meat this is the place to go to. This is Argentine food in its pure form. I would recommend the breaded chicken breast!!!
This place is something of a family legend. We’re peruvian, and have a lot of love for Argentine cuisine, so naturally we have been going to El Gauchito since the 1980s. This is the standard to which we hold every other restaurant focusing on grilled meats, and none of them have ever measured up to the standard set by this legendary place. If you’re looking for great authentic Argentine food, excellent service, and a true taste of Argentina, this is the place to go. Even though we no longer go as often as we used to, every time we go we know we’re in for an excellent meal. Thanks for being a great part of the community, and here’s hoping you have many more excellent years ahead of you.
The food was really good, an authentic argentinan experience. The meat and service were really good. There was a hidden credit card fee that the waiter didnt advise us of until after our payment was processed, that left a sour taste in our mouths, which is the main reason this restraunt doesnt deserve 5 stars. It would be nice if we were at least told of the fee so we could make a decision on if we wanted to pay it or consider other options.
I have been going to this restaurant for about 30 years. Always the same great service and quality of their meats. Not anymore after COVID 19. They have gotten cheap with their portions. And, when we order on UBER EATS (very expensive, by the way) with specific instructions, they forget to look up at the special instructions to please add condiments and sauces that goes with the dish that you are ordering. They fail to acknowledge the printed instructions on the receipt/order from UBER.
This place is amazing. I have been coming here for years, since it was only a small restaurant, now they have expanded which is great. Customer service is great as well. Its a warm setting, somewhere you can take your family or a date out and have some great wine and delicious steak.I have been to different steak houses but this is probably the best one in Queens. They have very good steak, appetizers, drinks, and desserts.I cant complain about anything here, except that it does take a little longer than some places for your food. For example, if you order a steak at Dallas BBQ your order will probably be ready within 10 mins. Here if you order steak it will take about 20 to 30 minutes depending on how much you ordered, BUT once you get your food youll know why it took so long! Besides you get some salami and cheese with bread to munch on while you wait. Moreover, its a good place with good people, the owners and staff always show you love when you come in. Keep up the good work guys!
I went there a couple days ago with my family. I was very disappointed with their service. We are a family of about 20 people and we wanted to order parrillada and we were told by the manager and we couldn’t do that because he wasn’t going to make money. We weren’t going to order one parrillada for 20 we were going to order at least 5-6 but he basically kicked us out. Another thing it was on a Thursday and the place was empty. I am very disappointed with their service I have never been treated like this and don’t plan to go there ever again
This Argentine place is a bit of a hike from the city and looks like a deli when you first walk in, but once youre served, you know it was worth the trip. For half of what Manhattan charges, you get huge portions of authentic goodness. The grilled meats and innards platter is a classic, and although I dont even much guts, it was nice to try the vast assortment. The seafood rice platter was very fresh and hearty too. If its your birthday, the entire waitstaff will come over and sing for you!
The place had a welcoming atmosphere but the tables were crowded. Food was really good if youre not scared to try new food, in another words you have be a meat lover. The server was awful, and somehow rude with her smearky smile. Then she had an attitude when I asked her to split the check.
I had dinner there tonight, party of 6. To start, service was awful! The waiter was very rude, waiters at this restaurant dont bother to provide good service because the tip is already included in the bill! My mom ordered the grilled chicken breast, which took 40 minutes (no joke!!) to come! By then, the rest of our party had already finished eating. The beans, vegetable cream soup and spinach canolies ordered were spoiled! To make matters worst, the manager refused to deduct these items from the bill eventhough we barely touched them! If you want a great steakhouse with excellent service and great food/atmosphere, go to La Fusta, which is only a five minute drive from this place.
What a hidden gem in Queens. Brought a party of five here for a Saturday night dinner. Got here around 5 and the place was already pretty packed! Portions were large and all the beef dishes we got were very well cooked. Tables were kind of tight in the given space and loud because it was crowded. But understood why because by the time we finished dinner there was already a long line of people waiting to be seated! Would be back for some very filling food.
My family and I have been coming here for over 30 years and unfortunately their customer service is very poor lately... Food quality has declined a bit like their short ribs, blood sausage and sausage and the waiters haven’t been attentive during our meals. Few weeks ago when they reopened I called 30-35 min before closing for pickup order and they told me be aware they close within 30 minutes I said not a problem I’ll make it, then he said hold on and proceeded to put me on hold and then hung up. I then called again they picked up and hung up on me. If they didn’t want to serve me they can easily say they aren’t taking orders. Very disappointed because I’ve been coming here for family birthdays and celebrations and they don’t respect their loyal customers. Our family pointed out the decline on their quality of food but kept coming, but now combined with their customer service it’s not worth dropping money.
A wonderful experience. The staff and service was outstanding. The meats were were even better. We had 2 parrilladas, one was the completa and the other was solo de carne. Wow, great and just great. We didnt leave anything behind. The meats come with 2 side dishes. We had tostones, papa provenzianas, garden salad, ensalada russa. We celebrated a friends birthday and we stayed a long time and not once did we feel rushed. Will definitely return. My friends love this place, now I know why.
Everytime my wife and I visit El Gauchito, its because we want a great skirt steak, or just a great cut of meat on the grill. You will not be disappointed as the friendly staff will be sure to attend to your request in the best way possible. Their sangria is also pretty damn good.
The barbecue was OK but not great (the meat quality was bad) The service was not good. The waiters do not pay attention when you call them and they are not polite at all. My glass was broken and I had to ask twice to get a new one. We were not agree with an extra in the bill and the manager was very rude at us. Finally we paid a lot for a poor meal and bad service. I am Argentinian so it was very dissapointed feeling not at all at home in this place.
This Argentinian Steak House Restaurant is very small and I had a 20 minute wait before being seated and It was all worth it !!!I ordered the Parillada and the Entrana ; a selection of grilled meats from skirt steak to blood sausages, grilled liver and grilled chicken breast. My sides included fried plantains, french fries and mashed potatoes.Everything was grilled to a perfect temperature with and amazing grilled taste. I ordered a nice Cabernet Sauvignon to enjoy with all of my meat selection. Everything was exceptional from the service to the food .
Just ate at the restaurant . Food wasn’t good at all . Service was terrible . We didn’t get our water like we ask for until entree came out . Appetizer never came out but tried to charge me on the bill . I ask for the bill 3 times before getting it . I ask for medium steak it was well done . The fish I paid $23 bucks for was a frozen fish & it was a tilapia and they called it another fish . I do not recommend this place at all.
Had a great time with good people for a friends birthday. First time here and we were pleased with the food and service. For appetizers we had chicken and steak empanadas. We then all had steak with sides of mashed potatoes or rice as the main course while drinking sangria. To end the night we toasted with a bottle of wine. Through out the evening the staff was very courteous and knowledgeable on thier wines. I would come back here for sure.
I love that fact that they played all Argentina music. The display restuarant outlook its differently is Argentina theme. My servicer was very respectful and friendly. The food is good but the tripes wasnt clean enough they didnt use lemons or something to get rid of the flavor. I RECOMMEND the cauliflower with queso, pollo empanadas theres was good but I prefer the Colombian empanadas better. I was Ill be coming back soon.
The hostess was very rude when I came to the restaurant. My 2 year old was asleep on his stroller and I was told by this man to wake him up. The place was with few customers. He said that the place was going to be busy. He could have made arrangements by simply removing a seat.I have been a client for more than 20 years. This really hurt my feelings.
This is my go-to butcher shop! Surprisingly much less greasy chorizos and morcillas than my neighborhood option (and always in stock :) ). The chimichurri is grade-A and the guys there are super friendly. Gotta love the classic decor too! Gracias, chicos! Nunca fallan
Worst experience EVER.I went to have dinner wth my husband and they sat us all the way at the end where it was freezing. We had to ask to be seated elsewhere and while the waitress did, she showed an attitude while doing it. We ordered and it took forever. The sides were so small we had to get an extra side. We ordered a parrillada. Some of the meat were burnt- yet cold. To top it off, while we were having our meal, a roach appeared out of nowhere. Instead of the waiters getting rid of it, they stood and began to say stupid things such as es la mascota del restaurante, its the restaurants pet- in english. One of the waiters came and shoved my husband without apologizing to step on the roach. No one disinfected the area. We had to bring it to the attention of the waitress that was in charge of, not only our table, but was also in charge of 7 other tables while there were about 4 male waiters standing there doing nothing and making fun of the incident. The manager never apprached us, nor apologized and we were charged full price for an infested meal. Never have i had such a horrible and disgusting experience at a restaurant in Queens. Definitely not ever going back.
Poor customer service, the waiter took his time to bring the food out and an attitude when we called him to brings us some water and the food was really bad, uncooked and smelling bad like raw meat...I dont recommend this restaurant at all.PS: I got really sick withthe vegetable soup like an allergic reaction because of the soup that Ive ate at this restaurant.
I been coming here for 4 years. It is awsome. The service is divine waiters/waitress really cater to one.The Sangria is really good their shell steak (Bife de chorizo) is spectacular and well priced. Its a great family ambience ,I love the meat market inside the establishment its a unique concept. The parillada is also really good as well. Thumbs up to El Gauchito. Its a small family.restaurant in which they cook really well so be mindful it can get packed at times and you may have to wait a bit,but hey who doesnt want good food? It worth it.
Came here saturday night with a friend and had a great time. After reading the reviews I was a bit worried but Ive been wanting to try El Patron for a while. When we first arrived the hostess was a little rude, it wasnt until my friend started speaking spanish to her that she became friendly. Which kind of sucks because they shoild treat everyone the same.I ordered the patron bottle berry margarita which was so good and strong. My friend got a mojito which he said was one of the best hes ever had.For dinner I got shrimp fajitas which were alright, nothing special. My friend ordered the vehetarian enchiladas which I tried and loved. I know what to order bext time.Overall it was a good experience and Id def go again
My brother and I arrived at 4:45 pm on 3/24/18. We ordered 2 entrees (sirloin steak; sausage/steak/short rib combo) which included 1 side dish (french fries), and only drank water. The waitress called us boring and never came back to check on us. We waited an hour and had to ask for our food from the busboy, who said it would only be another minute. A group that came in at the same time as us had already finished their meal and were chatting. We waited 5 more minutes and and I had to check on my parking meter. Luckily there was no ticket even though I was 5 minutes past the expiration. After putting more money in the meter, I came back and the food suddenly appeared. My brother said when I got up, the busboy went back to the kitchen again and brought out the food just as I walked in (were guessing they assumed we were walking out). The meat was ok but there was no reason for the order to take 65 minutes. We asked for the check and the waitress didnt ask us how our meal was. We paid the exact amount, right down to the penny, and vowed to never return. Theres plenty of other restaurants that serve this type of food and have better service. I dont mind waiting if theres an explanation from the staff. But Im not going to spend my hard earned money on lousy service and so-so food.
I really enjoyed the skirt steak. First time here and we will definitely be back. Very high quality ingredients...I think the fettucini was hand made and the beef bolognese sauce was great. Also had freah made mango juice and loved it. Hidden treasure by the LIE service road :-).
Ah! what a sabrosa dinner we had. we shared the plate of mixed grill (for one) but easily feeds 2+, and were very satisfied by both the flavors and preparation of the meat. my fiance loved the pickled eggplant whereas i liked the provencal potatoes more. if were ever back in elmhurst we will definitely stop by! also, they have a little Argentinian deli where i bought alfahores..... perfect!
Authentic Argentinian restaurant. We got a number of different meats and the highlight was definitely the asado de tira (short ribs), very good morcilla (black sausage) and the rest was good too. The only disappointment was the dessert, we ordered flan but it had a very dense unpleasant consistency and weird flavour. Stick with the meat.
We were in el gauchito today and I highly recommend it, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. The meat was fresh and the empanadas were delicious. Our waiter Manuel was very friendly and attentive, he always came around to make sure everything was well.
Probably the worst Argentinian food and service I ever experienced in my life. The churrasco was dried and the picada mix had a notable flavor of being fried on overcooked oil. If not oil that was over-used. We had a waiter that forgot to provide us with water, chinichurri, and ají. We had to ask him for EVERYTHING we needed. At the end he had the AUDACITY to demand for a $28 tip. We gave him $10 even though he didnt it deserve it. Oh, and he demanded the tip by dropping the bill on the table and saying it wasnt enough. NEVER coming here ever again.
I went to have a parrillada with my family this past Sunday because the other Argentinian restaurant Boca Juniors was closed ,,,we sat down and we order, 2 meat empanadas for starter, a parrillada for 2 and a kid menu which consisted in chicken cutlet and mashed potatoes. After a relative short wait we got the empanadas, but instead of meat they brought us chicken, we send them back , we then received the meat empanadas ( ICE COLD),we didnt complaint since I have been a customer to this place since 2003,,finally the food arrived, my kid got fries instead of the mashed potatoes,we send it back,,,when we started to eat my wife noticed the meat was so raw that was almost impossible to cut it, the kidneys , sweetbreads and chorizo where so raw that where bleeding!!,Im from Argentina and a very avid at the grill, and I know How dangerous could be to eat raw kidneys and sweetbread!!, not to mention the sausage, I called the waiter and far for creating a scene my intention was to point the chef?? on the dangerous of serving this kind of staples Raw to the public!!, before we left the place to NEVER come back I have a little chat to the owner and his son who far for worried about my awful experience eating meat dipped in grease he was more worried about if I were still want to take home a dozen of empanadas I told him I was planing to take to Connecticut in my way out, off course I say I dont want to take any more chances with this greasy place and we left.At the moment we were there , there were like 5 tables with customers so is not that there were crazy busy,,,Chau Gauchito!! you have seen better times in the past, for me is a Never Go Back PlaceYou have been warnedPablo R.
Don’t ever come here if busy and you don’t have a big group..I went there with my husband on a Saturday night around 7:30pm, the line was long we waited for 45 mins and no one ever aproch us, then another customer told us we have to make it inside to put our names down on the list to get a table , so when I asked the host why no one came to tell us we had to come inside to put our names down , her answer was , you have to make you self present when you come to a place.we waited for another 45mis, they kept on calling people that were at the end on the line even though we were the first ones on line at this point, then I asked her why is she sitting people that had put their name on the list after me ? , she said the tables that were opening were for 4 people, I asked for the manager and it happens to be that this terrible host is also the manager. After this , she called a group of 12 people that by the way also got there after us , one and half hour later we walk out hungry after we waisted all the time standing on line .All they care about is how much money is coming in , 12 and 4 will expend more than 2I will never go back here , I felt humiliated.Refuse to pay to get this kind of treatment.
We waited for 30 minutes for a table, our appetizer never arrived which we got charge for it, the steak was under cooked, the waitress never ask if we needed water we had to ask for it and we ordered dessert it was frozenWe mentioned to the waitress about everything and no apology how so ever she just blame the kitchen

2022-02-08The best traditional Argentinian Steak House in town. Is no surprise as they have a butchershop on premises, you always get the best cuts straight to the grill, right to tour table. If youre not into steaks they also have a great selection of home made argentinian dishes to satisfy any palate. Wine selection goes along with the great dishes and also desserts are very good. In few words friendly service, nice ambience, good wine, and the best Argentinian parrilladas....recommend 💯 percent

2021-10-17Fantastic food, staff is gracious and fast, cant recommend this place enough. Had the sirloin and I was floored. Steak cooked to perfection, and the sear was flawless. The seasoning was outstanding and I cant wait to eat here again.

2021-05-29Absolutely amazing, came here with my mom on three occasions and each time was delicious. Definitely a great place to eat, especially for meat eaters. Their skirt steak was delicious and the menu is extensive so they’re really are a lot of great options. Also not that I came here for the fries, but the French fries were so crunchy it was perfect.

2021-08-25I went to dinner with a friend after a year and a half due to COVID. The food was still good however the service was terrible. There was ONLY 1 waitress taking care of the entire restaurant. They had 2 other runners which barely helped her. The owners were just standing around instead of helping out. I remember when the service used to be wonderful and inviting but now it’s not worth eating at the restaurant. Might as well order take out and save yourself the headache of a long wait.

2022-04-13Tried this place for the first time, and it did not disappoint. The service was phenomal and very attentive. The ambiance was cozy and the food was terrific. They offer wine specials until 4:55PM- a bottle of wine for 100$ but ask your server to confirm. And again the picanha was by far the best I have ever had!!!! Must try! I will be returning.

2022-04-16Worst restaurant experience Ive ever had. Went here not too long ago. Food was ok, but thats not the problem. The problem was the people attending us. Theyre all con artists who speak in a manner to make you spend more money. I asked for a bottle of water to which the woman attending us replied they couldnt do that. She did it so I would pay for the bottle as opposed to getting a free glass of water. Mind you every establishment in NYC is required to give you a cup of water if you ask for it. So then I ordered my tomahawk steak. The menu said it was 60$. They said it can feed 2 people so I decided to get it. They didnt clarify and charged me 120$. I asked for it to be cooked medium and It came out practically blue. It was inedible. The steak came with 1 side. The lady asked if I wanted rice and beans to which I replied sure. They charged me extra for an extra side. The way she spoke made it seem like rice and beans were one side. Ive been to many restaurants all over nyc. From 5 star high end expensive places to local Chinese food spots. This had to be the worst service I have ever experienced in my life. Full of scammers. Be cautious. This establishment chooses profits over people

2018-04-15Tons of fresh meat including blood sausage, maduro, rice and beans. How could that ever be a bad dinner? I went on a Saturday night at 8pm. The wait was only 5 minutes for 2 people to be seated. The service was friendly, but a little slow. The service is similar to how it is in Europe if youve ever been.
