It had been a while since Camille wanted to get la ram (The Prime Zodiac Symbol for Aries) tattooed on her arm. Walking around the Lower East Side we happened to run into the famous Fun City Tattoo Store (at St Marks since 1989). At the moment I didn’t know this but Fun City emerged as one of New York City’s first legitimate walk-in tattoo shops that merged fine art with hardcore and punk.A very nice lady Genna welcomed us to the place as she inquired about the tattoo we were looking for. Camille had a vague idea of what she wanted. She collected a few pictures of drawings and tattoos to show as references. Genna asked us to wait while she showed the references to the artist Joel Baca who was drawing on the back. When Joel had finished the draft (no longer than 15 minutes), Genna showed it to us. Joel took the references, made a beautiful sketch of the ram with the style Camille liked and added a few elements of his own, like flowers and some old school ornaments, Camille loved the whole concept. Joel made 2 different sizes for the stencil. Camille chose the smallest one and the session began.I asked Joel and Genna if it was ok for me to use my camera to shoot a video. They said it was fine and I started to play around with my DJI Osmo Pocket. They allowed me to go around the store recording everything. The store is like a small museum of Tattoo. There’s a lot of different art on every corner. At every moment I felt welcomed and all of the personnel were very kind. After 2 hours, Joel had finished the tattoo, and Camille was very, very happy with the result.Joel and Genna shared the instructions to take care of Camille’s new tattoo and we left, with a great experience and a short video to remember it.If you’re ever out there looking for a good place with great artists and nice people to get a tattoo, please make sure to visit Fun City.
Had a great time here as a walk in; Ryan took such care to make sure the design was right and was incredibly professional. Plan on getting him pictures of his work as soon as it’s healed, but he did a fantastic job. The entire vibe of the shop was great; everyone was friendly and made the process easy and memorable.
I was desperately looking for a tattoo parlor to create a special piece for me to make me feel powerful and protected, but no one had time or availability to draw up a design/tattoo me that day! I called up Fun City Tattoo and Joel made the time (and even worked over time!!) to design me a beautiful tattoo and tattoo me that same night. This just might be my new favorite piece to my collection of tattoos. I told Em how important this tattoo was to me and why I needed to get it THAT NIGHT because of my mental health. I just needed something to help me feel strong and protected, and that is exactly what Joel did for me! Thank you guys for blessing me with your time and efforts. Definitely will come back in the future for more!!
Came here as a walk-in for my very first tattoo. Everyone was so friendly and the shop was comfortable and clean. Jesus did an incredible job and was more than willing to change up the design to make sure I felt it was perfect. I would definitely recommend Fun City, and will definitely be coming back for my next tattoo.
Prestons one of the nicest dudes Ive ever been tattooed by and his work is incredible Ill sometimes stop when I catch myself in the mirror, looking at his work, and just admire it for a bit. Everyone in the shop makes you feel comfortable. Its a small shop, but never to the clients inconvenience. Honestly would like to grab a drink with anyone Ive met at Fun City, theyre all good peoples.
Cool shop with amazing and talented artists, but if you are looking to ball on a budget I would not recommend coming here for your tattoo. 30 minutes of work cost me $630. My appointment was originally supposed to be a three hour apt. from 6-9 I didnt get seen until 6:45 and was out of the shop before 7:30. I was not charged at the hourly rate but rather on the complexity of my tattoo, though it feels like I paid for a three hour appointment. Though I am happy with how it came out I felt like price was stretched.
This was my first time at Fun City - it wont be my last! Everyone at the shop was very nice; we felt welcome and comfortable. Ryan worked worked with me to make sure the artwork was properly-aligned and fit well with my other pieces.Needles, inks, etc were all new and opened in front of me, as expected. The entire staff observed good hygiene/sterile practice, washing and replacing gloves regularly.Ultimately, I was very pleased with the overall experience and, of course, my new tattoo!
My roommate heard about this place, and we decided rather spontaneously to check this tattoo shop out a few days ago. A cursory google search revealed that Fun City Tattoo is not only one of the oldest standing tattoo shops in the city, but it is also very highly rated among reviewers and tattoo publications. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon without an appointment, and the shop was spotless yet casual. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful in pairing me up with the most appropriate tattoo artist for the design I had in mind - Lorenzo. Within a few minutes, I was seated in a chair and getting prepped for my first tattoo! I found Lorenzo to be very calm, confident, and friendly. More importantly, I noticed that Lorenzo and the other artists at Fun City were extremely diligent about cleanliness and safety. Everything was sterilized before use, and all artists are expected to wear gloves throughout the entire process (see picture).Lorenzo, as an artist, is extremely talented especially with symmetric designs involving sharp lines & geometric shapes. He also has a gentler, but still extremely precise touch with the needle. I am extremely satisfied with how the tattoo has turned out, and the quality of work is definitely worth the higher price. I plan on coming back here again for another tattoo soon!DISCLAIMER: As in most tattoo shops, Fun City Tattoo only accepts cash, and they do not accept credit or debit cards.
First Timer- today my daughter introduced me to my first tattoo! Preston was my tattoo artist and he was great. He was friendly and walked me through the process. Not sure how it should feel, but he had a light hand. The parlor is small and clean. The artists are personable and created a positive experience. Ive joined the tattoo world and love it! Thank you Fun City and thank you Preston!
What a great shop!! Just left here after having Simone fix a tattoo that I got a month ago in Thailand. In just under 30 minutes I went from being super embarrassed of my crappy tattoo to wanting to show off this awesome work of art. I am BEYOND happy and have found my shop for future work I plan on getting done. Plus, everyone here was super chill and nice. Just a great experience all the way around!
Because of the reviews I read online, I decided to get a tattoo here while I was visiting the city. I would highly recommend going here for a tattoo. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming and made the experience enjoyable. Ryan did an awesome job on my tattoo and it is exactly what I wanted. Genna was great at getting back to me with info on appointments & walk ins as well! Not sure Ill be getting another one anytime soon, but if I do, Ill be making another trip back into the city!
I thought Fun City Tattoo was awesome. Great atmosphere, really chill but not overwhelming like some tattoo shops Ive been at. I was a walk-in, but I did call ahead to make sure there were openings. I brought in reference material for what I wanted and Mina redrew it, and I love my new tattoo. She was really focused on the tattoo but was also efficient, and my tattoo didnt take much time at all. I would highly recommend this place and I would come back.$100 shop minimum, they do accept credit cards.
Simply, one of the best tattoo shops in New York City. When you’re after quality, this is the place you come to. Real artist doing real work. Whether it’s an average person or a celebrity, everybody comes here for real art. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for... this place is also the oldest tattoo shop in New York City also. Not one of those fly by night ,just starting out tattoo shops like they have in the Bronx and Harlem. Large selection of inks
I would definitely not recommend this place. I was in New York for vacation and decided to get a small evil eye tattoo behind the ear. I was initially told that it would cost $210 (just outrageous), but they brought it down to $155. The tattoo was done quickly and it looked a little slanted; I assumed that might be due to the swelling and how sensitive the area is. Fast forward 3 weeks and the tattoo is now healed and looks absolutely terrible. The ink looks green and I am definitely going to have to get it covered up. Save your money for a place that is worthwhile!
I got one of my first tattoos here. Lorenzo did such a good job on my detail. He made sure I was happy and that he gave me exactly what I wanted. His team are a group of funny guys and you can clearly see that they all take pride in their work and love their job. Its a cool and calm environment. Ill definitely be back.
Had my first tattoo done there earlier this week, and the lovely girl behind the desk helped me decide/make a sketch of my Liverpool tattoo. She was very talented, patient and extremely precise. Always had a smile on her face also, and made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. The atmosphere in Fun City Tattoo was great, and all the artists were friendly and helpful.Love my new tattoo, and would give this place my highest recommendation as they were superb. Also would like to thank the wonderful girl that made my new tattoo, and let her know that I am very pleased with the result.KristerNorway
Went yesterday and got work done by Preston... cant find enough good things to say about Fun City. Ive been tattooed all over the country, but nothing beats this place. The space is spotless and wonderfully decorated, the artists are fantastic and professional and the ink itself is gorgeous. Will definitely be back in the future.
Very friendly stuff that made me comfortable before making my first awesome tattoo, mostly great experience. Four stars because I feel I was overcharged, paying $575 for two hours, and because I didn’t have that much cash, I couldn’t tip the master decently, who was awesome. Feeling that I overpayed and underpayed at the same time smudged an overall great experience. Hope most part of the payment went to him anyway.
This was my 2nd tattoo; the first I received in Mexico City and while it isnt bad I did lose some ink and determined Id do a better job seeking out a good studio. I was visiting in NYC and determined with my friend that we wanted to spontaneously go get inked. We were in the Village and saw they had high reviews, called to make an appointment, and was told that it was a slow day and to just come in. Indeed they started working with us immediately and our artist Simone promptly got to making our stencils. My friend went first and then I followed a few minutes later. All in all we were in and out the door in about 1.5 hrs. I can tell this new tattoo will have a richer deeper black and am impressed of the detail he captured (I got a tree with branches and leaves about the size of a drink coaster) for a small sized piece. I would definitely go back!! 140 plus tip seemed reasonable. My only annoyance is the cash-only policy. This of course is a problem all over NYC but when your shop has a 100 minimum (pretty standard from what I understand) and one could really be paying hundreds for new ink it just seems like bad service to send customers out to the corner ATM to make 1, 2, or even 3 withdraws to pay up.
We traveled to NYC from San Antonio, TX. I am heavily tattooed and I always do my research on tattoo artists. I look on google, Instagram, facebook- EVERYWHERE! I found FUN CITY on google, looked at reviews, Found them on Instagram, looked at the different artists profiles...and I found Preston! We emailed back and forth for about 3 weeks! I told him what I wanted, he drew it up. We went to the shop on our vacation to NYC and the tattoo was PERFECT! The whole tattoo experience was EXCELLENT! Preston is a super respectful tattoo artist, super nice guy! My husband loved the vibe of the shop. All the guys were just very down to earth and awesome! I highly recommend visiting this shop if you are in NYC and feel like getting a good quality art work on your body! SUPER CLEAN SHOP AS WELL!
I have been getting Tattooed at Fun City since 2006. Big Steve is hands down the slickest, most notably talented artist in NYC. Versatile in his artistry, from grey wash, to portrait, cover ups, full color, traditional and flawess scripting, you will never be disappointed with a tattoo from Steve.
Too pricy and bad service. A tattoo is something that is long term... So it is important to feel like you made the right choice. For these guys..they made me feel like its the same as giving me a bad haircut. Also very expensive and only cash...so you have to go to nearby ATM. Why not tell that befor you start?? Just another example of bad service. I will correct my tattoo somewhere else.
For one, the lady behind the counter was super rude and condescending. When we told her the tattoo we wanted was the GPS coordinates to a famous landmark in NYC, she snapped back sarcastically with “I don’t know those off the top of my head”. As if she was incapable of using Google on the computer sitting right in front of her. Secondly, the tattoo was outrageously priced. It was clear she didn’t want to help us get what we wanted.
This is honestly the best tattoo shop artist hands down especially big Steve bus he’s not cheap since he’s always on demand and does several famous customers, but Ryan is the one I recommend if your looking for as a replacement that’s my opinion but there are other artists with different styles also so it’s your preferred preference
The first tattoo studio in NY. With a team of tattooists very good and with very good vibes. While they are tattooing you can talk with them about the characters that have been tattooed there and when you leave, do not forget to look at the building where you are if you like Led Zeppelin.

2022-01-25The facility was clean and everyone was very nice. I had a few questions and there was some scheduling issues that were completely my fault but every communication was done promptly and politely. I got a very simple line drawing, in all black, of a paisley behind my ear….. that cost me $315! The extreme overprice is why I can’t give 5 stars.I have multiple tattoos from multiple states and I understand that pricing varies. But even considering that I know Manhattan is very expensive, I thought my tattoo couldn’t be more than $150-ish with a tip, max $200. This is the most expensive tattoo I have despite it being the only one without color and the smallest one. I have a full color entire calf piece that cost me $275. This tattoo is so expensive, I haven’t decided if I can even tell people who ask how much it was the truth or if I’m too embarrassed and will just probably lie about the price. Just please be aware of the excessive price gouging.

2022-04-14Absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! After an arduous and very lengthy search, I finally discovered Diego. Firstly, Diego is a gentleman. He is EXCEPTIONALLY PROFESSIONAL as well! However, his array of talent and artistic skills are simply unsurpassed! My tattoo was an old coverup, and it required 3 + hours of work/time. Not only did Diego masterfully construct an impeccable and SYMMETRICAL design, he accommodated my desires and requests for it be cohesive with what previously existed. Diego NAILED IT! Id even go so far as to say that my new and improved tattoo is perfection. The other staff members are friendly, pleasant, caring and in good spirits.

2021-11-12My boyfriend and I came as walk-ins, because we were just on vacation. The staff was super nice and friendly and instantly helped us. We felt absolutely comfortable here. The tattoos they made for us were better then we expected! We already have tattoos, but for me this is the best one I have. The tattoo is very fine-lined and really well tattooed, I love the details! I highly recommend this tattoo studio!

2021-07-27Got a gorgeous tattoo from Benny, well worth the price. Clean, safe, professional, and above all, TALENTED!!!Edit: less than two weeks later and my tattoo is almost completely smooth, and still gorgeous! There was minimal scabbing and the healing process went perfectly. I cannot reccomend this place enough!
