Positive: Friendly staff, Location, updated furniture in rooms, comfy bed & the waffle maker at breakfast. Negative: Had to move rooms because of the damp musty smell from bad plumbing in the bathroom. Carpets in the next room also had a stale odor in spite of the new decor.
Howard Johnson in NewburghStayed here on short notice while on family business. The good:- Low price- Free internetThe not so good:- The place appears very old- Fixtures are under renovation- No phone in our room, they said since the place is under renovation, there are no phones in some rooms- The booking stated free breakfast, but it was really breakfast item, which was a cereal bar, and they ran out when we tried to get oneSummary: the room was fairly clean, but the place clearly needs a reno, would not stay again.
The parking lot is a crumbling mess, the stairs leading into the back are a crumbling mess. There is no safety on door, anyone can enter. The rooms that face the back parking lot are very public, there is no privacy, there is no window just a large glass sliding door. Its like being on display not a very safe feeling. The phone in the room has no service. The ice machine doesnt work, the beverage vending machines were empty; the snack vending machines contents were so stale. The bathroom was a fail.
My boyfriend and I went here on 10/1 and was absolutely horrified. The building is falling down. Walked in and was hit with a strong moldy smell. The lady at the front desk was nice and gave us the room card. We walked up to the room to which there was another very strong overpowering smell. The toilet did not flush, the napkins in the bathroom looked as if they had been used and placed back in a pile meant to be used by guests. The sheets on the bed were dirty and there were small flies flying around. We had to leave because my boyfriend has asthma and the smell was affecting his breathing. The hooks to hang jackets were broken off and electrical plates were cracked and chipped. The health department should be contacted. I am demanding a refund from the company!
The staff was friendly. However, I felt unsafe. The place was outdated, chipped front steps. The towel rack in the bathroom was on the floor because it fell. The paint was chipped in the room in some spots. I cannot say much about breakfast because at that point I was ready to leave and didnt leave my room until it was time for me to leave. The plus is that the room did have a microwave and refrigerator so we were able to warm up our food that we got from a restaurant.. If you are looking for a quick place to put her head down and leaving in the morning, this is the place. I just know that I cannot see myself coming back
I was in my room lying on the moth-eaten sheets at 3 am when the receptionist burst through the unlockable door and told me the room was no longer suitable for human use. I was forced from my room then and there and walked out o all the staff members(armed with paintball guns) surrounding a bright purple fire waiting for me. I ran out of there with my bag an was instantly chased by the deranged staff. I jumped into my Ford F-150 and started to drive away but the staff continued to chase my car. Then one of them who had stolen my keys during the night was sitting in my seat. I naturally freaked out and crashed into a telephone pole. The events that followed are too gruesome to describe, ad all in all I barely made it out alive... The stay was terrible!!!!!!I also was slapped by the receptionist while I was checking in.DO NOT GO HERE!!!
I booked this hotel due to some last minute travel arrangements, and my experience was poor. First turn off was they had a no mask no service sign but neither staff or customers where abiding what that rule. After I checked in to my room, there were no bulbs in the lamps. They then checked me into another room. I had to go back ask ask to put bulbs in the 1st room as the second room appeared as if they only made the bed after the last guest moved out. There was hair all over the place stains on the walls and a very strong cigarette smell. The screen door was broken and the safely bar was not attached. The response to the request for bulbs was speedy but after the bulbs were installed I quickly realized that this room was in no better shape that the other. As the toilet seat was broken the bathroom and bedroom walls were stained, the head boards were all write on and the walls in the room was previously someones canvas. Not to mention the bathtub being deplorable. I had to do a early checkout as I couldnt bring myself to stay there the night. This was not my expectation for $129 per night. They really need to do better.
Positive: There was nothing to like about this hotel. I check-in had to change rooms twice due to cleanliness and lack of lighting. I headed up checking out the say day this place was not worth staying even it it was free Negative: I did not like that the rooms were not lean. The staff didnt adhere or enforce their mask policy and the hotel reeked of smoke even though there were non smoking signs everywhere.
This hotel was run down and in a terrible area. The building was run down and in need of paint the parking lot was potholed and in need of paving, the rugs were worn and stained. I guest were sketchy. The pictures were obviously photoshopped on the website. There was no pool. Thankfully my room was reasonable clean. The staff was nice. I was so relieved to survive the night.
Very run down. The room we were assigned was not cleaned by housekeeping, pillows thrown, food left out, lights on. They assigned us to another room which had a leaky faucet, clogged basin, mold, and dirty sheets. They are unwilling to refund the remaining night bc we checked out a day early. Very unreasonable.
If I could give them -5 stars, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Staff is nice but the hotel itself is nasty. For $80/night, I would expect the place to be clean at least. The room wasn’t even vacuumed and the towels in the bathroom were folded but dirty! The furniture is torn and the walls and doors are dirty. There was no other availability in town so I was stuck there for two nights. I had to ask the housekeeper to change the bed and towels and vacuum the room before I unpacked my bags. If you leave the room, make sure that the balcony door locks so nobody can sneak in. Mind you, there are all kinds of shady people living in the place. The hallway smells funny….
Positive: The location was great for our baseball tournament. Negative: I can¿t believe this hotel is still open. There were stains on the walls everywhere. The safety lock was missing on the room door. The bath tube was stained. It was the worst experience of a hotel stay I¿ve ever had. These are just a few things.
The quality versus the price simply did not add up and the fact that another guest at checkout made multiple complaints about her room pretty much confirmed how I was feeling. This was a last minute option during a mostly booked Labor Day weekend while I was on the road making my deliveries. I would not make this an option for a revisit unless no other option was available.
It was my first time at this Howard Johnson. Actually, it was my very first time at any Howard Johnson. The staff was very professional and friendly. Also, lot of signage was posted about all guests must wear face masks in common areas, and if they need a face mask, the can get one at the front desk. The rates were reasonable, too, and I was VERY happy with king-sized bed. I look forward to returning, the next time I visit Newburgh, NY.
Upon walking into the lobby the smell of cigarette gave me a headache. I ended up choosing to lose my money and book a different hotel because simply the price and the quality of this “hotel” do notMatch. This is wrongly advertised. This is a MOTEL and not a hotel as advertised.
The front desk staff was awesome however, the hotel is outdated and the rooms look bad. The refrigerator was dirty and rusted, the bathroom tub had mold and holes in it. I didn’t even want to take a shower in it. The ceiling in the bathroom had mold also. The outlet sockets was chipped badly, there was holes in the walls.
Dirty dirty hotel. Check in Monique was horrific. At 5pm she gave me a dirty room. When I came back down stairs to tell her she said I could wait an hour or she could give a different room. I said different as I had to go meet people. She was then going to charge me more! Room ended up being ready. Walk in. Lights are broken. Pillowcases dirty. Splatter on bathroom walls and mold in shower. Couldn’t even stay I was so grossed out. Monique then said she isn’t able to do refunds and said the manager they don’t have has to do. DO NOT STAY HERE
I would recommend you find a different place to stay. They advertised a full continental breakfast but the only breakfast provided a small bowl of store brand cereal bars. When I asked where was the breakfast, the receptionist mumbled Whatevers left in the bowl. There was garbage blowing all over the parking lot, the toilet seat was so loose, it nearly slid right off the toilet, and the property is infested with groundhogs. Disgusting.
We thought the place was abandoned when I first arrived. If looked very bad. The outside of the building isnt well-maintained. Driving around the building, you can see stacks of boxes and junk through the dirty windows in the back. There was a horrible odor in the main check-in lobby. It literally smelled like urine. The only reason we stayed was because we already pre-booked our stay and it was non-refundable. Our room was fairly nice though. It was clean and neat, although one of the towels was dirty. Skip this place and go to the Hampton Inn up the road.
Absolutely HORRIBLE. The outside is rundown and disgusting. Upon entering it was dirty and smelt musky and going through the hallway it smelt like smoke. Going into our room it was dirty and reeked of cigarette smoke. We didn’t even set our bags down, we turned around and left but we’re refunded fully. Would NOT recommend.
Service at the desk was friendly and accommodating. Young lady informed us she was on till 11:00 PM and she had fresh coffee brewing if we wanted some anytime while she was on. She also asked me if I had triple A or if I was a veteran and wanted to give me a discount.Room and bathroom were spotless. Bed was clean and tidy. Carpet was clean and smelt fresh.Notice smell of fresh paint when we walked into the building so you can see they are working to make the place better.Breakfast was the only downfall we found. It wasnt that bad but a few more things on the selection would go a long ways.Would definitely stop there again if in the area and need a room.
We stayed here July 4 thru 8. The one bed non smoking king rooms decor was a bit outdated but the bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept on in a hotel from 5 stars to 2 stars! The halls are a little mildewy smelling but the staff was easy to deal with and the room stayed nice and cold. Our room had a spacious balcony and the shower was clean. We definitely will stay here again if needed.
I wish I would have read the reviews before I came. Im glad it was only an overnight stay. Its 2:30 am and my toilet does not flush. Water tank is not filling up. I spoke to front desk and one star is too much credit. The cable is fuzzy like watching boot leg movies. The room and building is out dated. The hotel has two doors, one to the outside street and the other to the inside lobby. Both need weather strips. The window leaks cold air. We even found a black sock leftover from prior guest.
Honestly the room 219 was amazing it had a lot of space I think I’ll be requesting that room when I stay the next time . The front desk guy that was working when checking in is great 💯 if you need a manager down the road it should be him I’m not sure what his name was but ask him about the girl being high when checking in then you found your guy 😊
Smells awful, bathroom was stained and tile was broken. The surface of the nightstand wasnt even wiped down from probably the 5 previous guests.... the walls were in various states of repair and disrepair, and electrical outlets werent even attached to the wall. They look like a fire hazard. The windows and doors were probably installed in 1950. This place is gross. However, the hotel desk clerks at the front desk are extremely friendly and do their best to try to fix the issues that they can do something about. I cancelled my reservations after the first night. This is a Howard Johnson by Wyndham and I recommend you find somewhere else to stay.
Stayed for 1 night. Bed was comfortable, but the shower was not cleaned. There were a few small black hairs, definitely not me. Hair was left in the hair dryer by last person(s) shower was dirty and leaked, towels had old stains on them, I used a washcloth to dry my body, microwave was outdated, luckily I didnt need it. No bed bugs, no bugs so thats a plus, and bed was nice. I got good sleep. Other than that it was ok. People at the front desk were nice. Id probably stay here again, but bring my own towels.
Our first night here the toilet was clogged. When my boyfriend called the office he was asked to come get a plunger. Instead of someone coming to do for us. Then we noticed hair in the tub and asked for a new room. Upon entering our room I inspected the bathroom and there was urine on the seat. We then went back to our first room. At this time the front desk gave us a spray bottle to clean our own tub!!! Unexceptable!!! Needless to say at this point we were disgusted. The next day we were only given 10% off our room. The hot water in the sink only has a small stream. Normal pressure only worked in cold water. Continental breakfast was very good. And the food was fresh.
Comfortable beds but terrible service even though manager tried to help. Unfortunately he wasnt there everyday, no manager for three days. Didnt clean rooms at all. I had to request rooms cleaned get towels, bags for garbage toliet paper phone didnt work no elevator . My sister had a major problem when they charged her card after they paid cash. Then the person who did that said he didnt!! Omg i hope they get someone else with knowledge and how to greet customers. Had contenantal breakfast that was good since the man handling that was polite they should make him manager. Now I see why they have roaches, everything falling apart, holes everywhere. Its too sad the building needs major repair and new staff. I thought this was a distinguished name hotel. ☹️
If u could give less than this one star I would. Staff admitted to checking us into a room that had never been cleaned in the middle of a pandemic. Not to mention Im 8 months pregnant. Absolutely disgusting and no compensation or apology was offered after risking the health of me and my unborn baby. This place should be shut down.
Not a hotel for a family vacation. We booked this hotel online for a week, and luckily the staff was willing to refund my sister back the money, but the sight if the hotel was hideous. We all had the first floor, the lighting was very dim and none of the sliding doors locked, nor was the bathroom cleaned, there was still debris in the bathrooms(hair, dirt, dead roaches, etc.) We sincerely apologized to the hotel staff saying it wasnt there fault for the mishap but we couldnt stay there. Thankfully they were understanding enough, and we left the hotel to the Courtyard Marriott up the street. We drove for 32 hours straight and this was not something we had in mind for a comfortable stay. But overall,if they did do some touch ups to the hotel, and get better cleaners to clean the rooms properly, then youll be ok but overall please dont post old pictures of your hotel.
I am Jinnys husband and I stayed here Oct 19, 2018, most dysfunctional hotel I have ever stayed in. Room was on second floor, oh no elevator, not nice when your knee is injured. Ice machine on second floor out, so now gotta go back down those steps. Pillows were like laundry bags stuffed with a small amount of foam, asked for a couple more, over 2 hours ago, still waiting. Towel rack in bathroom has been remounted 3 times, I know the holes are still there, oh and only provided 2 bath towels typically most hotels put in 3. The hair dryer probably suffered a great fall from the wall, due to the big crack down the side of it. The Kleenex cover on the wall hanging from the box, because its so bent it couldnt get flat if it wanted to. The lights next to bed wont turn on twisted, turned flipped nothing. Wall socket next to bed power cord hangs loosely out such a fire hazard. The drapes for the big window is to small cover one side the other is open. Oh, and dont try to call the front desk from room phone, it doesnt work either. I would give no stars based on the above but it wouldnt let me post.
Where to begin, safe did not work, goobers on wall, balcony doors dont actually lock, thin aluminum bar holds them shut, rips in chair that was in room, maid never cleaned room the first night and when she cleaned it the next night, did not fill coffee creamer, sugar and stirring thingy. Had nothing to fix coffee with. The front desk people are very nice, and beds were comfortable. That is why they got the 2 stars.
Do not stay at this hotel. As soon as I got into the room turned on the water to take a shower the water came out Brown, the tub was clogged and out crawled two bed bugs from under the bath mat. After inspecting the mattress I noticed two black clusters from bed bugs. I immediately called the front desk they refunded my money because I declined another room. Not only was the place infested with bed bugs but the side doors to get in where unlocked and the carpets where dirty and faded. Such a disappointment for what looked like a nice motel from the outside...
The room was SUPER CLEAN and the king size bed was AWESOME! Staff was very nice and the location right off 2 major highways is hard to beat. I had to visit my daughters boyfriend at Hyde Park, so I was worried about the commute, BUT due to the closeness of the highways, was not an issue at all!
The staff were very friendly and kind but the hotel is in a bad state of disrepair and is very dated. It was dirty and smelled and I did not feel comfortable staying there at all! Many features looked like they could be from the 1970s and were falling apart. We would have switched hotels if there was any availability anywhere but there were several events in the area and all hotels were sold out.Heres some particular issues:- When we first walked into the hallway it smelled like someone was smoking weed, which might have been an improvement over the normal smell of the hallway.- Our room also smelled bad but slightly different than the hallway.- The curtain to the dirty, rusty-framed sliding double door was falling apart. One corner was hanging loosely and several pieces of the lining were worn off.- The bathtub was literally being held together by caulk and there was old moldy sections behind the unsecured metal bath pieces. It wasnt even a good caulk job. It looks like they just slapped it on (see pictures). While I was showering the drain plug fell down. I went to pull it up and the knob literally fell off in my hand. I had to stick a washcloth under one side to keep the plug up so the water would drain. Later my bf was able to screw back on the knob and somehow got the plug to stay open.- The drain plug for the sink was moldy and removed from the sink, just sitting on the counter (see picture). I didnt touch it because I assume it was broken.- The shower head was too low, barely high enough for me to shower and Im 58.- The front bar on the towel rack was bent.- The toilet paper holder was loose, falling apart, and had layers of grime on it (see picture).- Even the tissue holder metal was rusty (see picture).- There were no plugs on the walls anywhere you could reach in the bedroom. There were only plugs behind the night stands and behind the desk, both low to the ground (see pictures). If you cant move furniture or crawl around then youll have to use the bathroom outlet for any electronics. This is definitely not sufficient in modern days or if you need to plug in your breast pump. Its not like you want to stand in the bathroom to pump!- The phone did not work. We were going to call the front desk at one point and there was no dial tone--it wasnt plugged in!- The fire alarm was set off at 8:15 AM and we could not hear it in our room which is great for false alarms but terrible for safety if there were a real fire! The receptionist came knocking on our door to tell us to evacuate.- The sheets made me feel itchy which might have been due to low quality or chemicals? Ive never experienced that before. We went to a new hotel the next night where the sheets didnt feel itchy so its not me.- The TV did not pick up channel 10 which is an issue if you want to watch certain college football games.
Very convenient, friend place. The place is clean with all amenities stated. The wifi is slow and the HBO very grainy in appearance. The breakfast was presented well and the common area very clean an attractive. Free parking is available and a courtesy 1 hour check out was granted. Will stay again because it is clean and the staff friendly.
My husband and I stayed for one night as a layover for a longer trip. Our room was available when we checked in, and was clean. The AC worked well, and any staff we encountered were polite. We didnt try out the facilities (there is a pool and tennis court) so I cant comment on their cleanliness or set up. While we had a non smoking room, it did somewhat smell like some one had smoked hookah or overly vaped in the room.
Stayed for one night, will never stay again. The area is a complete dump, wouldn’t be surprised if our room got broken into. After being checked in for an hour we wanted to leave but the hotel would not give us a refund. The bathroom ceiling is caving in, and there was a giant stain on the bed spread
When I entered the hotel, young lady was mopping the floor. I said good afternoon three times and she didnt respond. I asked gentleman at the desk if she speaks English and she interrupted and said good afternoon. The room was clean but the shower curtain was torn and the water in the sink went down very slowly. The next day informed the older gentleman at the desk and he stated someone will replace it. Saturday I noticed the curtain was not replaced and the drain was still clogged causing water to drain slowly. I called front desk spoke to young lady and she stated they will fix it and change curtain. It never got done. The computer is outdated; it continues to free and you had to reboot the system. The continental breakfast was good. Will go to another hotel if in the area.
The rooms are large and clean. Breakfast was nice (love the waffles). Free WiFi with good speed. Wonderful postcard selection for only $1. There is a quiet space to use hotels guest computer with cozy lounge area. This location is accessible to shops and restaurants. The staff was very attentive and they really made our stay special. Two thumbs up on their customer service!
Room was not ready, lacked the microwave and refrigerator we requested. Wrong side of the bld. Breakfast was less than good. Has gone down hill since we started staying here, four years. Over priced for what they offer. Will not return, have reserved a room at the Hampton Inn just up the road. We usually dont give bad reviews unless the motel doesnt live up to there advertising.
Not a great place. When arriving were given a room which, when we got to it, was not cleaned. The bed was torn apart, the bathroom had towels on the floor, a total mess. Walked to the lobby, which is a haul from many of the rooms. Desk person said she hadnt been on for a few days so didnt know. It was 6PM, and dirty rooms? Ice machine broken, and facility... eh. Everyone had to evacuate in the middle of the night, after having fire department bang on and enter room (which was weird since they just walked in and yelled to get outside - if a woman were undressed would have been awkward). They said someone had been smoking in their room? Breakfast was a no-go.
Positive: Not one thing¿.. Negative: I am actually reporting them to the BBB, I had problems the minute I walked in. They stated my reservation was not paid for, gave me a dirty room, then locked me out upon my return at 4:30 am stating I had checked out and left things in my room.
The room was clean, but the lights near the bed did not turn on, and the message light on the phone flashed all night despite the fact that there were no messages. I mentioned it at the front desk and was told they all do that. Beds were small but comfortable enough. The continent breakfast was truly terrible. Some of the worst coffee Ive ever had.
Gross and dingy.Tried to switch rooms because of various problems but any rooms we switched to had a strong mildew scent. The staff was not friendly or willing to fix or take blame for the issues.Staff gave our room key to another guest, giving us a rude awakening in the early morning and when we went to complain about this the staff at the front desk, they yelled at us for being in the room...Overall was definitely not impressed with this hotel and would never recommend.
Our first room had a very bad moldy odor. So we left and came later on that day. Ended up with the room right above the stinky room. Well needless to say the front desk clerk was very helpful. This hotel needs a lot of improvement. Oh btw they did reuse the sheets. Very disappointing. This Howard Johnson has a lot of potential. Hope next time I come out this way it will look like someone does actually care for the building. Oh yea please get some ACs working in the hallways...
BEDBUGS!!!!!! Do not stay here. I have never been more disgusted by a place in my life. We rented 2 rooms for 2 nights for August 17th and 18th to visit my nephew who is attending West Point. The hotel lobby was the only nice part of the entire hotel. The first room we checked into stank like marijuana, the bathtub was gross and the carpets were filthy. They switched us to another room that seemed better so we moved our stuff into there and went for dinner. When we returned to our room at around 11pm my husband was getting into bed and immediately saw a bedbug as soon as he pulled the sheets back. Then we saw more and more as we were now full on inspecting every inch of this bed. He immediately went down to the front desk to inform the clerk of the situation. The clerks response was how do I know you didnt bring them in. He was very unprofessional and extremely rude. Two other couples happened to overhear the conversation and said they were not happy and would not be checking in. The clerk then told my husband that he had no right to tell people that there were bedbugs. We ended up getting another disgusting room with broken lamps, stained furniture and filthy carpets and walls. We tried calling several other hotels but since it was now past midnight on a Friday night everything was booked. We stayed the night not by choice and barely slept because we were beyond grossed out and upset. We checked out first thing the following morning and checked into a different hotel 45 minutes away. Not ideal, but we werent staying in that slumhole one second longer. Since we went through Priceline our 2 rooms for 2 nights was already paid in full ($461.36). It is now August 27th and they have only refunded for 1 night ($117.52). All we have gotten is a run around and nobody wants to refund us the money that we are entitled to. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this hotel. Otherwise youll end up paying double and getting bedbugs. Ill be posting pictures and videos if it allows me to do so. If I could give this hotel 0 stars I would.
Just your typical Howard Johnson. Had no issues with check-in or check-out. Room was clean, room temperature was good, shower and bathroom was also good and clean.Seems their biggest area of concern is their continental breakfast. While it was standard, the room was clearly not big enough for the crowd they get, nor was the serving area, big enough to serve the crowd. On top of that, staff was trying to get me (a single traveler vs a family) out of the room before I was done. There were not enough seats in the area to hold everyone that was trying for a seat, including the TV seating area. That became spill over and that was filled as well.
I would not return. For one, yes like what someone else said the halls smell of smoke. Two, the toilet had to be recleaned by me (that’s why I always travel with alcohol wipes. Three (the bathtub is clogged so you’re bathing in a puddle of god knows what. Four, there were super ghetto trash hotel guests right below us who I kid you not were in literal screaming matches, swearing and yelling at the top of their lungs and NOTHING was done about It. I felt like I was in a ghetto neighborhood in New York. Stay at your own risk.
This was one of the worst places I have ever stayed at. The bathroom was not clean. The shower was dirty and the top blanket on the beds were not washed. We had to buy our cleaning products to feel comfortable using the bathrooms. The toilet was having issues flushing so we had to use a plunger. I do not recomend this place.
If I could give zero stars I absolutely would! When we went into the rooms they were disgusting dirty and half the lights didnt work. Setting asside the stained chairs and dirt covered carpet, when we looked over the beds they had signs of bed bugs!! Upon further looking we definetly decided we WERE NOT staying and went to the front desk to get a refund. Upon entering the lobby (which was also dirty) there was a cockroach running across the floor! The only good thing we got out of this hotel is a refund. And by the way, when we said there were signs of bed bugs in the rooms the woman at the front desk had not a single look of suprise or shock! I assume they are already aware, but just make up the beds for the next person to sleep on. Absolutely disgusting, I will never step foot on the premises again.
The 2nd star is only for the bed comfort otherwise it would be a 0 star. 1 night and i couldnt wait to get out. Hair in the bathrom, carpet wet from fridge leaking, dirty and rusty everywhere. Rooms from the 1980s probably.. The breakfast is not edible unless you are a waffles and cereals person.. I shouldve read the reviews but it was a quick last minute stop.
My family and I spent a night in this hotel and it was a TERRIBLE experience. Upon first entering our room, we noticed an awful smell that never went away. Looking around the room, we noticed multiple grimy spots on the mirror, TV, cabinets, etc. It appeared as if the room hadn’t even been superficially wiped down, much less deep cleaned in between guests. With regards to the free breakfast the next morning, it was extremely disappointing. Much like the surfaces in the room, the countertops and pans on which the food was served were visibly dirty and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. My daughter tried to pour some milk for her cereal but upon trying it, she noticed the milk was spoiled. When she and I brought this to the attention of one of the employees she came back to us and told us that she smelled the milk and that it smelled fine. I told her that it was in fact spoiled and that she should taste it if she didn’t believe us. After some time the employee returned with a new gallon of milk, but at that point we didn’t feel comfortable/ safe eating or drinking anything they served. Overall this place was UNCLEAN and the employees were UNHELPFUL. Avoid this place at ALL COSTS. I wouldn’t stay there again even if it was free.
We felt it was a little run down, the chair seat was all tore up, the comforter was dirty, it had a spot on it, but otherwise it was clean, , housekeeping did a nice job in the rooms but the stairways and the vending machines were dirty. Complementary breakfast could have had some protein items instead off all carbs. Coffee available all day
Shower was broken and missing the knob and the employee said the screw was out further. Room change then this bathroom the shower was dripping so you see rust spots and then the ceiling tile was pushed away that you can see the wires. The breakfast nothing to write home about. I could have went to Aldis myself for what was served.
If a crusty 1979 era hotel is what you are expecting, you will be very happy. We were greeted by bugs in the bathroom and 90 degree room. The A/C was not on (8/12/2016 it was 98 degrees outside) The room was well worn, sheets will clean but were threadbare. The room smelled of musk and mold. The single star signifies that the building was standing. It is $100 cheaper than other hotels for a reason. We never set our bags down, we turned around and drove down the road and checked in at the Marriott Courtyard.
Ok for one night stay. Partially rennovated 50s motel. Very friendly and accommodating staff and comfortable beds. We liked the breakfast: the navel oranges were very good. The packaged mini croissants were better than many I have had. The small Yoplait yogurts were fine and the regular coffee from one of the urns was actually good. From the other it was very weak.
It could be a lot better I think this should be more space for the people that checking theres a very small space I think that would frustrate the workers who would put someone in a tight spot like that to welcome people your employees arent animals theyre people so that I dont even think the employee there like but people care about what they can get and not the people that care for what they get
I give the star just because if not I wouldnt be able to do a review on this plase otherwise NO STARS!!!!!I have stay on several Howard Johnsons with very minimal to none complaints but THIS ONE IS THE WORST OF THEM ALL !!!! 😠😠😠The corridor and room carpets were filthy upon check-in, We only stayed there one night. There was water on the bathroom floor, along with dead insects. When we arrive to the room, my wife went to prepair the bed for the kids and she found BED BUGS, YES BED BUGS THEY WERE ALIVE AND WELL. 🕷🕷🕷We took pictures and video to show the employee of the hotel. (Bed bugs are no joke especially for children, they climb on your clothing and everything. Avoid taking them home with you.) I went to the reception and I told the lady about their CREEPY PETS. They move us to another room and on that other room I went to take a shower, there were dead bugs on the shower wall, leg hair like from a (razor) shaver... the bathroom, looks like it hasnt been clean for weeks even months. When I went to charge my phone I found lots of garbage behind the nightstand that is between the beds The shut-off valve for the shower dripped non-stop, and the drain hole of the tub was deeply stained. Someone spent a good deal of money on the exterior appearance of this place, which shows well on the internet page, but not a dime on the rooms, or on the staff needed to improve the place. Until these issues are corrected, this place is to be avoided. The cheap rate is not offset by the lack of basic fundamentals, such as cleanliness. The communication between the customer and the staff is the worst. They only want your money!😠😠🕷🕷 Any one can leave a good /bad reviews but I urge that the CEO or the person in charge of all the Johnsons come and see for him/her self
THE worst hotel i have stayed. The manager was very unfriendly with no respect to guests. The room was totally not ready - heater not working, telephone not working, no computer connection in desk area. in addition, the facility was very outdated - TV, Bathroom condition was very poor. although the engineer came to help who was very warm and friendly . I do not think the manager is qualified to his job.
The room wasnt the cleanest but the beds were comfortable and the staff was very nice. The breakfast was nothing special but it was good. We stayed for one night in a room with two beds. Again, nothing special but it met our needs of having a decent nights sleep before continuing our long drive the next day.
I have absolutely loved my stay! The new management really stands out. I initially was only staying for one night but ended up staying for 5. The rooms arent brand new and sparkly but they are clean and comfortable. Although two other big name hotels are across the street, when I return to Newburgh, HoJos will get my money!
Cheap room for overnight. Bed was comfortable, room was clean but worn down. Almost all furniture was damaged in some way. The patio door did not want to stay closed all the way. For the price I guess thats what I would expect. Would stay there again for a short overnight if I had to.
Do not come here. This is gonna be your worst nightmare. This hotel is so discusting so dirty, everything is broken as well as anything you might need they wont have it.Its also very unsafe just dont even think to choose this place,i warned you.The worst hotel i ever stayed in my entire life.I dont even think they will ever improve as they dont even care.
While I have stayed at this motel in the past, I will not do so again. All online services stated a room was available, but when I arrived the surley front desk attendant told me all they had were double beds.Strange, as there were hardly any cars in the parking lot, and no lights on in any of the rooms. The hour was such that guests would be back in their rooms with at least some lights on. Not so.Howard Johnsons lost a regular customer, and Ramada gained one for just a few bucks more - mutual gain.
If youre going to advertise wifi, make sure it works in EVERY room. I stayed way down the hall and the Internet didnt work. At all. It worked fine in the lobby, but not down the hall. Very frustrating.Customer service was great. Not gonna hold the front desk responsible for crappy corporate decisions.Fix the wifi, guys. Its 2018. Get a better router.
Ambulance arrived the last night!!!!!No one knew what was going on and not till a worker noticed why it was that the fire alarm went on she told no one to get out of the building. NO STARS AT ALL!!!! The service was terrible. The workers had absolutely no respect nor would they actually work well. I wrote a note to say what I wanted and I had 2 rooms and in one of my rooms the worker even left me a note that said thank you and the other one just did nothing. The worker that left the note is called Lanay Cooper im sure shes the best one working there she left me everything in my note and was absolutely amazing she needs a raise. Otherwise if your looking for a good hotel to stay over more than one night maybe, its definitely not a family place. If you just look for a place to sleep its amazing its cheap its ok but if you want a place to have fun with family there are plenty of other hotels at good prices.
I have not stayed in this hotel. But I had a negative experience with the management and Expedia. I booked 2 nights. Booking was non refundable through Expedia on their app. (WHO KNEW a non refundable hotel reservation.) I attempted to cancel 2 days in advance of my reserved night by phone through Expedia only to find out the next day that this was a Non Refundable reservation and that the hotel denied the request for a full refund. RESERVER BEWARE!!Again, I did not stay at this hotel. There is 1 star only because I could not post without any stars.
This hotel should be condemned it literally is falling apart. I had to get a pair of pliers to turn the shower on because the knob was long on the counter when I checked in the room. I will be calling corporate to let them know what kind of shape one of their hotels is in.
Do not attempt to even book at his hotel. The manager there Andrew is heartless. During the nor easter storms, there were flights being canceled and so I needed to cancel my reservation as it was only for one night and the storm was going to hit that area. Well the manager there Andrew first of all who was very rude, decided that he would not give me a refund. I cannot imagine someone so inconsiderate. I understand policy and procedures but i also understand natural disasters and unpredictable/dangerous weather conditions.
It just seems old. It’s tolerable. But it doesn’t feel like a hotel you’d want to stay in. It’s just a hotel you’d stay in because there are no other available places. Downstairs glass door was broken and was taped together. I’m not quite sure how long it’s been like that, but it’s not comforting. Those are the kind of things I don’t want to see when staying at a hotel.
Bed was not made upon arrival.Heater was broken, knobs missing, attempted to use anyway but did not work. I slept in a 20 degree room with the thinnest blanket and most uncomfortable pillows. Bed was very large. I had to wake up twice during night to take a warm shower and get my body heat up but tempature controls were from 1910 and took forever to get adjusted. After a nightmare of a night I awoke to a breakfast of waffles with no syrup.
If you dont mind the 70s shade of orange (we didnt) and the lack of available outlets to charge devices (we did, a bit), its a perfectly nice, clean hotel for an excellent price. From what I can see, this is not a wheelchair accessible hotel unless youre on the 1st floor.
2 STARS IS GENEROUS - and only because Renee saved a bit of face as we left!Problems:1) COMDOMS under the bed! CONDOMS!2) broken office chair3) damaged lounge chair4) hadnt been vacuumed in a long time5) random hairs on bathroom floor6) curtain to the massive deck doors was not fully attached to the railing7) bath tub faucet drippingThe ONLY thing positive thing I can say is that Renee understood and gave a refund when presented with these issues. That is responsible and decent. Also, the fire doors are almost definitely not to code. They can be locked FROM WITHIN THE STAIRWELL. INSANE - could literally kill people!
Due to events in the area, we had a very hard time finding a hotel along Route 84E. This one was one of the only ones that had availability. We arrived last night at 1am to find a large group of Canadians leaving the hotel due to bedbugs, cockroaches and dirty sheets. Thankfully, we ran into them before we checked in. Dodged a bullet!
Do I have to leave a star? I wish that I could leave now. Its 10:05 at night and I cant leave. If I could upload photos, I would. My pillows are stained with the sweat of God knows how many people. YELLOW BROWN AND SMELL LIKE DEATH. Clearly these have not been cleaned or bleeched in a looong time. Not 1 pillow all four. Evidence of soiled towels in the bath room. I went downstairs to show the women at the desk. She offered no apology and could only offer me 2 pillows. I asked if she sees whats wrong here and she agreed the pillows were bad , and that was all. DO NOT STAY HERE. DISGUSTING. CANT WAIT TILL DAWN!
I booked through Priceline who Ive never had a problem with before, when I got to the motel and told them I booked through Priceline they (Grace) said it could be 3-24 hours before they received confirmation on my booking. This made no sense to me because Priceline would not book you a room and not send confirmation so that you could stay the day paid for. I called customer service at Priceline who confined that they sent the booking confirmation...by fax and by online reservation. I was made to stand there for 40 min while the Priceline agent was put on hold at Howard Johnsons right in front of me by a woman named Grace. She had the fax the whole time, was refusing to do the transaction because it didnt come through the online reservation computer... which is the MOTELS system and THAT is what could take 3-24 hours... I explained to the woman that other places I have stayed used the fax to book my room, she went on to say it doesnt work right and thats not how they do it, etc. Now the biggest problem I have is that it was obvious I was being treated this way because I am WHITE and Grace is a black woman. Priceline was put on hold so that she could book in a black couple, there were other white people who came in while I was there and they were not treated as nicely as the black customers who came in. She finally finished my booking, gave me a crappy room on the back side of the motel over looking the garbage dumpsters and I had to ask for directions to the room as did the other white customers while the black customers were treated with a smile and given explicit instructions on how to get to their room. The room itself was decent except for the fact I had to remove the A/C filter because it was so clogged it wouldnt let the A/C move any air.
Staff had been recovering from a packed house the night before with an above average amount of late check-out guests... They made every effort to show their appreciation for our patience with an extra hour of wait in the lobby before being checked into our room. Sometimes LIFE HAPPENS! 🙃
My wife and I were repeat visitors here when we visited the Newburgh area regularly about 10 years ago. Now Im back, and not much has changed at the HoJos. This older property is stlll maintained very well. The room was clean and well-furnished, and the mattress was comfortable. The front desk staff were cheerful and helpful, both checking in and checking out. Turns out it was the weekend of a West Point football game, and they had printed maps on the counter with directions to Michie Stadium. They offer a continental breakfast that was kept well-stocked with cereal, fresh fruit, baked goods, juice and coffee. In too many places, if youre not there by 7:30, most everythings gone. Not so here. A staffer noticed that the coffee pot was gurgling dry as I was serving myself. She immediately went and got a fresh pot. Theres a waffle iron and batter dispenser to make yourself a waffle. This HoJos is a very good value.
Well the Bed Had Hair in it 3 Pillows out of 4 Had Hair and it wasnt mine Back Door Doesnt Lock after a Long Day of Work I come to what is supposed to be a Decent Hotel and its a Dump I wont Recommend it not even to a Crack Head I Honestly Rather Sleep in my Work Truck
The inside door of room 129 looks like someone shot it. The pool is permanently closed The Internet did not work for me. The computer in the breakfast area must be 10 years old and very slow to make be believe the connection is dial-up. The breakfast is meager and the property is not kept up. The bathroom looked an amateur had worked on it. Even for a Howard Johnson this property is in need of major surgery.
The ice machine was broken, the wifi was poor, I left for dinner and then I came back both my room key as well as the key for a buddy staying 2 doors down (we were on the same reservation). The free breakfast was just a waffle maker. I will never go to a Howard Johnson again
Ive stayed here many nights but last time I booked found out has a 150$ cash deposit which was not disclosed when booking and when cancelled was told I would not be charged by front desk mgr but still was charged spent weeks waiting for someone to contact me back to be told I would not get refund on room I didnt even stay at
Worst place ever that place should be close down gave me room that was not cleaned.the place stinks like old and lets not even get until details about the services omg I am speechless I would never imagine it would be this horrible please do yourself a favor DO NOT go in or near that place

2022-02-16I visited this place while family members from out of state stayed 4 nights. They came in for a wedding. I spent the day with them and had the opportunity to see both rooms that they rented for 4 nights. I had the opportunity to walk around the grounds as well as the common areas. The following is my impression:(1) Individual rooms were clean & cared for by the hard working staff who were polite and displayed a good work ethic. The carpet looked old and tired.(2) I am sorry to say I can NOT say the same for the common areas. It appeared to me that carpet through out the common areas need to be replaced. It looked over used, unclean, tired and ready for a Big face lift.(3) I will say the price was very inviting, especially for a family traveling. Free breakfast included was good, I am told.(4) While walking around the property it was apparent that the building, the pool area (not use-able) was empty & very neglected. The windows on the ground floor facing the back pool appeared to be used for storage that was piled high against the large windows. In closing I will say, perhaps the owners are new and have intentions to get these issues in order.I am hoping to see that happen.NO I would not stay at this Howard Johnson.

2022-05-19We had a last minute trip and even though the reviews were bad we decided to stay here!!We had a great experience!! The lady that checked us in was great!! She had a lot of personality and was very nice. Our room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable! We liked that we were able to get on the lower level because we had a sliding glass door that went outside.I have a service dog and it was nice being able to take her out that way instead of thru the entire hotel. We would definitely recommend this hotel and we will stay again!!!!If I had to find any complaints it would be that out tissue box only had 4 tissues! We had a king size bed and the pillows were small!Other than that…… perfection

2022-03-18Got one of those blind deals on Priceline. They ended up giving me this one. The price is good comparing to other hotels. I paid $76 per night for a deluxe king room. I was a little concerned when reading the reviews. A lot of 1 star rating. Everyone is complaining how dirty the room is. Since my reservation is nonrefundable I decided to give it try. The front desk is friendly. Hallway is very outdated. However when I entered the room. I was shocked how amazing it looks. The room has 2 sinks (1 inside bathroom and 1 outside), which is my favorite design. The room is huge with a couch and a balcony as well. The mattress is very firm. Floor is carpet but very clean. Ac is very clean and looks new. There are old things in the room let me say this. Toilet seat is a little broken. Tub has some stain. However the room has everything that I think is important functioning well and is clean. For the price I paid Im very happy with the quality. So many people left bad reviews and I just wanted to give people a different perspective.

2022-05-14Yes it was cheap, but wow it was terrible. The woman at the front desk was very sweet, but unfortunately it couldnt make up for the hotel. I was also told by a worker (after hearing my asthmatic cough) to becareful that the rooms may worsen it, and because theres no windows, to leave the door open. Our rooms were dirty, old food in our room, the smell. We left not even an hr checked in.

2022-06-21The hotel is located in a back lot, the parking is in the back of the hotel with no lights at night. The rooms were clean, the bathroom needs renovating. My bathroom sink had a slow drain, told the front desk and she told me to sneeze the pipes below.....🤨

2022-06-13The hotel looks nothing like the pictures on website , paint is chipping off , there was a hole in the wall with squirrels going in, there was room that had junk in looks like room for storage with old mattresses, hotel smells of wet carpet and cigarettes. The manager was rude. Poor place to bring family. Hotel needs a lot of work.

2022-04-22Priceline says I stay here last year! Very false. I booked 3 days I believe not knowing if I stay longer or how I would like so was willing to extend if everything went well. Wasnt looking for anything fancy but went check in n the 2 woman at front desk immediately turned me away saying cant stay here! Very rude. I said but I already paid n booked on Priceline. They said sorry. So call Priceline they said nothing they can do cuz they third party but contacted hotel women gave no reason n refuse to give refund or allow Priceline to cancel so I lost a few hundred dollars plus Priceline would not give credit or discount to stay anywhere else to make up for this! I should have called the higher ups but I homeless had very little money n almost had breakdown. Didnt know what to do. Should have contacted attorney but may still as I have Priceline receipt n phone conversation. Didnt even seem like they had any business that day n looked closed. But to immediately deny my stay with j not even asking my name. Walked thru door n asked check in. They simply rudely stated u cant stay here. I was dumbfounded. Never again will even attempt stay again unless management gives me the stay I payed for. How can u book a place be turned away n be allowed keep all ur money! Still may have my ex-husband contact his attorney unless they make this right!

2022-03-19If I could give our stay a zero star I would. Upon arriving we were charged $15 more than the guaranteed booking price due to “new taxes” in Newburgh. The parking lot was unlit and full of potholes. There’s no lock on the door to get in so literally anyone can enter the building. The hallway smelled terrible. The bathroom featured a bathroom fan falling out of the ceiling, a shower tub that flooded the floor of the bathroom with each shower, a shower head that dripped rather sprayed, and a missing handle on the toilet. The bedroom featured a bed with sheets that had holes in them and a mattress that was covered in brown stains. Stay here at you own risk but it’s hardly worth the money.

2022-05-15If I could give this hotel 0 stars I would. The hotel room itself was okay, yet when I booked through Priceline.com, my card was charged without the representative telling he was charging my card. When I called to resolve the issue it took multiple calls, I was told I would receive and email regarding the issue, I was also told I would receive my money back. I was charged over $500.00 and was told the Howard Johnson Newburgh, NY was responsible for not refunding my money.Pretty sure my room was broken into while I was asleep. I wouldn’t waste my time or my money on the Howard Johnson Newburgh, NY. I personally hope the owner rots due to the situation I’m in as well as the awareness of the community to the situation.

2022-04-04Woman at the front desk was very nice, I saw all the terrible reviews and was worried. I’m sure it’s hit and miss but my room happened to be clean and everything functioned well. I am changing my review to 1 star though because I got bed bugs from this place! Nasty
