I typically don’t write reviews, but this is warranted.Flew in from Tampa, Fl on our family vacation. My wife found this gem on yelp, so excitedly, we drove on our way to Canada to try it for brunch.1. Amazing brunch food… 5 Stars2. HORRIBLE service - Our waitress (Haley) seemed annoyed that she had to wait on us. No pleasantries after we were kind and excited about our first vacation brunch, straight off our flight. After our brunch my wife asked for water to go. She stated she would charge us for the cup (we happily accepted and understood). She then comes back with a take home box. My wife again, nicely asked for a to-go cup of water. She then comes back with an empty cup. I then politely stated, there must be a miscommunication, my wife wanted a cup of water with ice and a straw to go. Haley then rolled her eyes and rudely grabbed the cup and walked away. She then came back and I said, thank you and she again walked away without a word. Very UNPROFESSIONAL, and UNACCEPTABLE, especially when we were very polite and courteous paying customers.
What an amazing Mother’s Day experience I had at the Howling Rooster! Not only was the staff amazing and they really tried they to manage time - it was busy and waited a few minutes but they had a great bar ! the food was so great as well they have the best omelettes in Buffalo!
A lot bigger in the inside than you would think! I had French toast , bacon, and orange juice. Good orange juice, not tart, no pulp. Just the way I like it! My sister had a breakfast sandwich with potatoes. Food was very good oh, prices reasonable. The potatoes could have been a little crispier oh, but thats my only criticism so far.
Went with the family here for mothers day breakfast. It was awful at best. The entire restaurant was cold as the door was left open in 50 degree weather for starters. The food came out after over an hour of waiting. Other parties of 4 and 5 that arrived 20-30 minutes after we did received their food well before us. When we inquired as to why it was so delayed we were met with literally only I dont know. before the waitress simply walked away from the table. The food was overpriced. Portions were small. Quality of the food was mediocre. I would have gotten better food, service, and prices at a Dennys. I likely wont be returning.
I came here for a karaoke night tonight with a pair of friends, sat near the door. We were sitting for a single song when one of us got up to go to the bar to order drinks for the 3 of us.While they were gone, someone came up to the table and asked us if we were going to order drinks. The bar was loud and I was having difficulty understanding her at first, but I told her that wed just sent a friend up. She identified herself to us as the owner, told us that we had to order something and that we werent allowed to loiter. She was aggressive and wanted us to identity the person who was getting us drinks. They had gotten distracted by talking with the person running karaoke about how to request a song and noticed that we were looking for them. The owner insisted again that we had to pay for drinks and was becoming increasingly rude throughout the conversation despite the fact that we were trying to comply with what she was asking and just had not gotten to the counter to order yet. There was no notice of a drink minimum posted anywhere.I have no issues with paying for drinks when there is an event, especially if there is a drink minimum, and we had been planning on staying for a while and buying multiple rounds. I am willing to give people the benefit of the doubt in most situations, but this is not one of them.We decided to leave because she was so rude and we wont be returning again.Edit: Yes, my first order was for a water, as I drink responsibly and alternate between water and alcohol, starting first with water. You also mentioned in person that you sold bottles of water at the bar, which we were all fine with buying, and we said as much to you. Another member of our group was ordering a soda as a starter drink. You were going to be making money on us, but your behavior was unacceptable and you lost customers as a result.
I only leave honest reviews. Minus the egg shell that was in my daughters omelette (this wasnt addressed), I ordered the Crab Benedict. The crab was a frozen patty and the homefries were just ok. One table had a great waitress, ours didnt appear to like her job from the moment she walked over to us or maybe she just didnt like who she waited on (us). Other than that, they have a nice patio to eat on. Cant say Id go back. Sorry.
Last week I took my son and my wife to the Howling Rooster for my son’s birthday. We ordered salads and or devours. After waiting an hour they brought out my wife’s dinner. (Salads and or devours) yet to be brought. 20 minutes later the waitress who was in tears do this ordeal told us my sons and I dinner would be out soon. Meanwhile, my wife’s dinner is getting cold. We took a picture of it. They brought it back and returned it with my sons and my meal. After asking if my wife’s meal sat under a heat lamp the owner told me they made a fresh one. A blatant lie from the manager. It was the exact same plate. My steak was supposedly to be medium. It was brought to me bleeding. The whole night was a disaster and disgusting. The owner came and said she would take the steak sandwich off my bill. We’ll obviously since you took it back to the kitchen. I didnt get to eat that night, yet still had to pay a 104.00 dollar bill. The owner of the restaurant treated us as we were stupid and unaware of the fact they screwed everything up but she made sure to take advantage of us. I would not suggest anyone to eat at the HOWLING ROOSTER. They don’t belong in a good place like the Town of Tonawanda.I will definitely let anyone I talk to let them know how poorly my family was treated. 👎👎👎👎👎👎
Having been visiting Howling rooster for years was always pleased with service and food. Unfortunately, my last several visits spanning over the last couple of years have increasingly gotten worse. I have often come here and waited in the front lobby for upwards of 15 mins or more just for the anyone on the wait staff to even acknowledge me, usually with a not packed restaurant. I have often just left and ate somewhere else. Our latest visit the same thing happened. The wait staff seems miserable which adds to a very unpleasant atmosphere. I will say though the food and drinks have always been very good which is why we had always returned in the past. Unfortunately, I do not think we will be returning, we have tried many times but just not the place it used to be.
It wasnt busy on Friday around 7:30pm. We were seated and served drinks fairly quickly. Our food order seemed like it took forever. Other tables who were seated after us had food. We di ally had to ask, which was when we were asked if we wanted a different side dish, because they were out of macaroni salad. Why didnt anyone come to us sooner with this issue? As soon as that happened, they brought our plates out.Food was good. I probably wouldnt get German potato salad again. It was a little soggy and overcooked. Maybe canned potatoes?
Food was hot and delicious, had rueben omelet, all fresh ingredients, tender corned beef . Service was perfectly timed and attentive. Short (4-5 minute) wait. Only downside was noise, which didnt bother us but might to some who are sensitive to loud noises , will definitely be going back !!!!
Terrible dining experience ever.Ordered roasted vegetable omelette and only vegetable in omelette with mushrooms and feta cheese. My companion ordered French toast it was served without syrup. Are coffee that was delivered to us upon arrival with lukewarm but we finally got a server we asked for hot coffee and what she brought was lukewarm.Would never eat there again. We both have eaten there pre-pandemic and was great this time absolutely awful.
Been here a few times before and had a good experiences. However, this recent breakfast visit left me with no desire to return. They were not busy on this visit but we waited a good long time to be seated as workers walked bye polite but not helpful. Eventually, we were seated in the bar room area not dining area to wait another ten minutes for a menu......the menu had the basics but definitely smaller. Food was well cooked but the coffee burnt... Do not know what changed in the atmosphere but it wasnt, neighborly nor welcomed visit with and there is no particular reason to return which is disappointing because they are so close and the food used to be much better .... its more a bar with bad service than a restaurant...
I wish I could give this 1 star, but unfortunately you can’t give separate reviews for the service and the actual people who made the food.Came here twice and the first time they have a strange method of where the host, usually a kid in the front will seat you in sections based on a waitress that isn’t on their “break”. This means you cannot request to sit where you want and if you insist, we were told that we would have to wait 45 minutes for the waitress to get off break to be served at a specific table. The second time we came we requested a corner table and the host had to take our drinks. Then 5 minutes later an older woman with black hair came over, did not introduce herself and took our order with an attitude. We did not see her at all until we had to ask the host who was cleaning a table for the check. No check up and drink refills from this waitress.I had asked for extra sour cream on the side with my taco omelette which was phenomenal, but ended up being charged $1.29 extra. When asking the waitress towards the end about this she insisted that she wanted the name of this waitress who didn’t charge me last time for the extra sour cream a month ago and wanted to contact “upper management”, when she did not even tend to us during our meal besides take our order. We noticed she had one other table as well and did not tend to them either. At this point we just gave up on the expectations of good service, and had requested take out boxes for our leftovers from the host. We still had lots of food left and were given two 16 oz soup containers for breakfast food. When asked for more reasonable containers to fit our food so it actually fits and doesn’t get smushed together, we then got brown cardboard boxes. At this point this was pretty disgusting to us and wasn’t acceptable. We asked the host one last time and we were given aluminum foil with what looked ljke hotdog containers from a hotdog stand?? We just used those and kept in the cardboard boxes so it wouldn’t stick to the box. This was hard to believe as the first time we came we had an actual takeout container, and I doubt if they did delivery they would put food presented like this.Overall from the other reviews i’ve read, it seemed like an uncomfortable atmosphere from the service to dine here even for brunch. The food however, was great. They have an amazing Hollandaise Eggs Benedict and their Taco Omelette is uniquely put together really well. The real tips go to the chefs.
Way to exspensive!!! For the quantity, quality, and lack of customer service... Went here with my Husband after searching for a decent spot to eat in the area.... found THR and looked at the photos online the food seemed pretty good looking.. read a couple reviews... should have kept reading because had I saw the owners responses to paying customers with no regard of any type or compassion , we would have gone else where. We walked in, the place is dead and no one working in sight sat around maybe 10 minutes before our waitress came and seated us. Menus are very long and doesnt tell you that you will be charged extra for all things... we had a bowl of soup, the cheapest breakfast meal and the ultimate blt that is just a regular Blt ... the food tasted good but not worth the price small portions seemed liked bagged fries you pay extra for that makes your meal almost $20 i make a better stacked Blt at home... my toast was not even cooked it was really just warm.. after the tip we paid about $50... not to happy.. we just paid the bill had we complained we wouldnt have gotten anywhere anyway....
Went there for a private birthday party. We had the back room. There was about 40 of us. The service was horrible. In the beginning it was ok they had one woman taking drink orders and a man that came in setting up the Buffett style food. But she hardly came in after the intial round of drinks. The server had an attitude wasnt friendly at all. As someone who has worked large weddings and Jewish events I understand service. The food was good but after the plates ran out they had to find someone to ask for more. This was a childs 1st birthday and after singing happy birthday the waitress came storming in saying loudly and rudely that we scared the baby singing too loudly to her.first of all even if that was the case how dare you make a comment like that. Another issue was when asked for water with lemon was rudely told that there was whater in the corner. There was a small pitcher next too flimsy glasses that we had to rise off and no lemons. It was so stuffy in the room we had to open the ONE functioning window. After the party I was told the waitress was the OWNER. We had had several complaints regarding her attitude.
Wife got hurt on bike path, went in here to grab a glass of water for her, even though weve eaten here before they treated me like a hoodlum and were very awkward. Cant believe how dark it is in there and how weird the vibes were. Food was ok on first visit but wouldnt recommend pizza parlor flavored food from this place. Go to Gigis Lloyds thin man...anywhere but here
Went to THR a little after 4 today. No one knew anything about Dyngus Day festivities so suggested we sit in the bar. Servers had no idea about drink specials or the perogis for dinner. When they checked on it, oh yeah, it will start at 4:30 -5:00. BTW, drink specials were $12 (thats a special???). There was no music, other than the normal blues. Our order consisted of fried chicken dinner with vegetable of the day (again, server did not know what it was)... Meals came out late because they had to wait for chicken to be cooked. Chicken dinner came and it was BURNT. BURNT beyond belief. Server said oh, ok, do you want another order or something else?. For obvious reasons, I did not opt to get another meal. We keep trying THR, but everytime it becomes a huge failure! I also think the whole Dyngus day and other advertisements are false, but you be the judge....
Got here super early on a Saturday morning and it was wide open. Wait staff was super friendly and offered us Mimosas to start although we both declined. Super clean and great decor made for a very warm atmosphere. I got the Roo-ben omelette which was insanely good. My wife got the Sausage breakfast which was also really good. Would definitely come back here.
How is it that this place isnt mobbed 24/7? We came here for a late lunch on Veterans Day, so we figured that wed have to wait. No problems. We sat immediately and had beverages soon after. I got the Benedict Arnold, my wife got the Pot Roast Crepes, and the boys got the Tripple-B burger and French Toast. I tried them all and they were delicious. I think that the bonus points will go when the nicer weather comes. The Howling Rooster is along the Tonawanda Bike Path. I can imagine walking here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and then walking it off. Just being on the path should bring the neighbors in.
Went there a few times for breakfast since reopening. Huge menu selection, inviting staff, great location. My wife was excited for pancakes but said they crumbled as soon as she cut into them and were not very good. Maybe too much flour in the batter? Would be willing to come back but maybe avoid the pancakes.
We stopped in for a drink and a chat. The bartender was lively and friendly. I had a Brooklyn Summer Ale for $6. My companion, a Rusty Chain for $5. Both were drafts. Pretty well poured. We sat next to a couple and chatted about the area. It had a nice feeling in here. A warm vibe. I think our bartender was supposed to give us $1 off our drafts for happy hour. Thats my only complaint, but its a small one. I would definitely consider going here for dinner. The community feel is really nice. People seemed like regulars. It is a bar where everyone knows your name. Cheers!
Very good food and service. Hostess was up front on being short on wait staff. But the wait was not that long. Food was tasty. Bacon could have need a little warmer when served for my taste but it was cooked well. The sausage patties on my girlfriends sausage and biscuits eggs Benedict were wonderful not to salty. Good texture. Parking is tight. Go early if you dont want to wait. We had a boat a 5 min wait at 10:30 but the Lines got much longer as we sat outside and saw guests come in. This may again be due to limited wait staff or timing.
I understand they were probably short staffed, but took over an hour to get our food, then it was cold. The burger one of ordered was completely raw on the inside. When I told the server about the burger, she apologized and then offered to cook it some more. We said we didnt want it at that point, but no offer to take it off the bill - Lousy food and poor service.
Dined here on Saturday August 21st for breakfast. We came to celebrate our engagement, which occurred that morning at Niagara Falls about an hour before arriving. I shared that we were celebrating our engagement with the establishment. Part of the surprise was that my fiancée’s parents surprised her by showing up here from Ohio. None of us were loud in the least, it was a table of 4 with two parents and a recently engaged couple, but one of the staff members came up to us and rudely told us to keep it down. Although we were one of the first tables at the bar and it was more quiet when we arrived it was very noisy and full within a matter of minutes from our arrival. No one else was told to keep it down from what I saw and we were celebrating an engagement and this is a restaurant/bar. We were also a mixed race table and no other table was. I sincerely have to wonder if this was race motivated. This was unacceptable and no effort was made to make this right when we complained. We were out of town and will not be back. I have never done a negative review before, but this was very rude and unprofessional. Very unfortunate.
Service was not great with zero refills or check ins and a long wait for the check. Food was mushy and lacking flavor. My biscuits also had a hair in it which made it even less appetizing. Owner has political pamphlets at the tables for some reason. Not a good experience.
Not impressed! i was disappointed that a breakfast restaurant ran out of bacon on a sunday, but things happen. i really looking forward to pancakes and decided to splurge by getting chocolate chips. the pancakes were so dry, no matter how much syrup you added, and there were maybe a dozen chocolate chips in all three pancakes combined. the waitress acted like she was doing me a huge favor because the kitchen took $2.50 off my $7.50 pancakes; thanks so much. only leaving 2 stars because the hostess was amazing.
Me, my wife, and my friend visited the Howling Rooster. We ordered corned beef hash, Rio grande bowl, eggs benny, pancakes, and french toast.Ambience 5Cleanliness 5Presentation 5Value 4Taste 4The eggs benny were good but nothing to rave about. I order eggs benny everytime it is available on the menu. These were definitely good but not the best I ever had.My wife loved the Rio grande. It was a big plate and it looked delicious. The toast is also fresh and tasty. The corned beef hash was good too. We were a little disappointed that the corned beef was canned and not home made. The ambience of the restaurant suggested fresh over canned. The french toast was good. The pancakes are probably the reason I gave the restaurant a 4 rather than a 5. I dont think Ive ever ordered pancakes at a restaurant that I couldnt eat. They definitely need to rethink the recipe. I also wish they had real maple syrup for sale as an option. The coffee was coffee. It tasted fine.Another random thought. Everything at the restaurant was clean and updated. Their silverware, plates, coffee cups, etc. were all clean and modern. However, they use the tacky blue Pepsi cups that they use at cheap diners which I didnt understand. I feel like having nice glasses of water would go a long way.Overall I think this place is great. Big thumbs up on how clean this place was. We will definitely be going back but I will not be ordering the pancakes :).
Driving thru Buffalo from Niagara Falls, and wanted breakfast. Found the Howling on Google and got off the freeway to find it. So worth it! OMG is their service great and the food. Dang, the food. 👍. I had the French toast, small stack which meant two pieces. Fantastic. Worth taking a tour of Buffalo to find it. You wont be disappointed. And bonus, they are huge Bills fans, TVs everywhere and cheering for their team. It was so worth it!
I really like the food and atmosphere here and have been eating here a long time. I am really disappointed that daily menus and specials are not being run until late around 6sh. If you are trying to order for takeout you have to keep checking Facebook for the menu to post. We went there for dinner last Friday at around 5:15 and they didnt have the specials menu printed yet and the waitresses didnt know what the specials were. As a result, we were unable to order any specials. The specials menu didnt come out until after our dinner was served. This menu thing is frustrating.
Wow what a great experience ! The breakfast was great .They were very busy but very curious and attentive . The wait time was no big deal . Waitress Monica was super ! Even the young girl cleaning the tables came by to ask if she could get us anything . We had breakfast but will definitely go back for lunch and dinner . Cant wait to revisit .🙂
My first and last visit, was harassed by the owner and told to leave because I purchased a drink for my wife that was retrieving her ID from our car along the street. Before my wife returned she had already taken her drink, poured it out and proceeded to grab my glass of beer. Highly recommend if seeking annoying harassment.
Love the new look same great staff I had the black n blue burger with house made blue cheese dressing Jackie had the Rubin with house made macaroni salad ...better than moms sorry mom we had a great meal and the atmosphere is very welcoming if you havent already tried it do your self a favor and do it Oh and they serve breakfast that will surely get your day started right
I want to start with saying our waitress was very nice and attentive. The resturaunt itself was cute and very clean, however the food was less than enjoyable. It wasnt exactly bad.. but for $41 I wouldve liked to have my food seasoned. My fish fry was beautiful but tasted like nothing but oil. Also, I am a pescetarian and the potato salad has bacon in it; it wouldve been nice to have that listed on the menu (especially during Lent). My boyfriend had 2 porkchops (which cost a whopping $19) which he said were well cooked, but again not seasoned whatsoever. The best thing we ate was the French fries. So not particularly bad... but definetly wont be going back.
I had a special which was strawberry stuffed pancakes. It was okay, but not really strawberry stuffed. The only think in between the 2 pancakes was whipped cream, all the strawberries were on the outside of the pancakes. My aunt had the sweet potato pancakes (which was also a special). Those were very tasty! My mom had blueberry pancakes thst were okay. My dad loved his breakfast burrito! The service was great. The acoustics in there are not good, it was very difficult to hear our server and each other. We had to shout a lot of the time.
Howling Rooster has long been overlooked by my family and I, but we finally got to experience it and were very pleased. The restaurant itself is located in a very neatly tucked away section of Englewood that, itself, with a little sprucing up of some of the other nearby shops and locations could turn this into a very popular place. Perfectly adequate parking, an outdoor patio where live bands can play... very nice. The wait staff is very friendly, and attentive. Nice beer and wine selection, though the glasses are very small for what you pay for. Dining area (indoors) was nice and clean, and well laid out. The menu is not cheap, but you get a lot for your money. American cuisine, with some nice pasta and seafood offerings, everything was tasty and the kids menu, though small (2 choices: grilled cheese or chicken fingers, which if you have kids is pretty accurate), was enjoyable. Will be back.
Excellent service! We tried the Howling Rooster for the first time last night. Three of our meals were very tasty, the fourth meal was a little off. We brought it to the attention of our waitress, who apologized and said they had some issues in the kitchen. She promptly offered to bring me a menu so I could select another dish and when I tried to tell her it was ok, not to bother, she insisted that she was not going to let me leave hungry. So I ordered something - which was delicious. The manager/owner? then came to the table to apologize for the first dish and let me know that they were not going to charge me for my meal and let me know that this was not normal for them. Long story short, because of the gracious way they handled it, what could have turned me off from ever returning, instead made me appreciate the care and effort they take in satisfying their customers. I will certainly be back!
Had the most wonderful experience here today with my father. He said his potato cakes were just like how his father used to make them. It took him back in time with happy memories and he couldnt stop talking about how he cant wait to come back and bring my mother. Our waitress was lovely, friendly attentive and made sure we were comfortable and content. We will see you soon! Thank you.
After reading reviews about this place while waiting for my food, I was struck by how much the reviews varied. So here goes...I did notice that it was very loud especially with a full dining room. The conversation wasnt any louder that any other restaurant, I think the acoustics is poor in the room. There appear to acoustic type panels on the ceiling so they seem to be attempting to work on the issue. The owner never seemed to stop moving, cleaning and working. She checked on us a minimum of 3 times. We were sat in about 10 min during breakfast peak time and mby another 5-10 to take our order. It took longer for our order (about 25 min) that youd expect eggs to take, but not unreasonably long. The food was hot and good quality, and the coffee cups stayed full, accomplished my multiple stops by 3 servers and once by the owner.Overall a good experience, decent food and good service.
I love this place. Super delicious food. Very affordable and a local gem. Wanted to go here for quite some time and visited for the first time Fathers day 2018. Service was fast, quality of food was amazing (I cannot tell you how many times the argument is made, do you want the food fast or good.) Here, you dont have to choose. Very accommodating and pleasant staff. I grabbed a slice of the macaroon cheesecake they had and its incredible! Definitely worth a visit or three
I really enjoyed my experience here. We got there around 9:15am on a Saturday and we were sat immediately. The only reason I’m not giving a 5 is because the Bloody Mary that we ordered was not very good. My wife had the California omelet and I have the Benedict Arnold with sides of bacon. The food was delicious! Coffee was nice and hot with a good taste. I will be back.
Food was really good (breakfast so) and the service was great. Definitely need to go back for a proper meal and some of their entertainment offerings .. live music on their patio. Blues and more!!!UPDATE: Went back for Saturday outdoor music. We got a couple of buckets (drinks). Enjoyed the tunes, the sunny evening, and the company. Stayed for dinner, and like breakfast, was tasty. Again friendly and accommodating service.
Im trying to take down the previous post with one star. I posted that before I spoke with the manager and she explained their menu and staff changes, different nights have different menus also. I came on the wrong night. I clearly had no idea. I had breakfast previously here.... it was 5 star.
A cozy diner experience that has much improved since the move from the old location on Kenmore Ave. The breakfast menu is impressive and relatively cheap. Lunch menu is also very good, I highly recommend the Turkey w/Smoked Gouda sandwich, among many others. The dinner menu is simple but delicious, with steak seafood and delightful gnocchi. Dinner hours are only for the end of the week, but it remains an excellent breakfast, brunch, and lunch establishment. The staff are friendly and decent with their service, and Ive made over 100 visits and havent had a bad one.
Amazing place. Went for the first time over the weekend. Somehow I hadnt heard of it before, because it was amazing. The menu had many interesting options that I had never come across before. Server was super friendly and on top of her game. Got some mimosas on a Saturday morning. Highly recommended.
Nice family neighborhood restaurant, right off the bike path. The atmosphere is clean and inviting. The menu was large, enticing and had a lot of vegetarian options. our waitress was prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. The clam chowder was amazing. Great breakfast. Cant wait to try the Friday fish fry.
Tonight my husband, son and I went to Howling Rooster for dinner. Service was quick and courteous and food was yummy. They had the fish fry and said it was great. I had the pot roast quesadilla and it was delicious and original!! I hear their breakfasts are even better. I highly recommend you try the Howling Rooster
Terrible experience, I was visiting my daughter at her group home. We planned ahead, looked up this restaurants information hours, and also noted that it states its open, still does by the way. We choose to walk the 1 mile from my daughters home only to find out by an employee that it was closed for the next 2 days. This experience does not encourage me to return to try the food. It would have been courteous of staff to update the website to show it would be closed and why. We were not the only disappointed customers to find this out the hard way today.
Delicious food. Fast service. Very nice servers. The owner is super nice. I was visiting my grandparents and they told me and my husband about their yummy 😋 Friday fish fry. I am from Michigan and am visiting for the holiday. I purposely took enough time off just so I would not miss the fish 🐟 fry. I was not disappointed at all.
In all my 56 years I have never found a Restaurant that could make the Best Pancakes until now . I came to Breakfast with a couple of Veterans. We went to the Howling Rooster and I found the BEST Pancakes. This is Definitely the Best Place to go for Breakfast. Fast and Friendly Service and Fantastic Food. We were all very pleased.
Good food, open floor style, off-beat and fun. Homestyle comfort food with occasional twists. An enjoyable visit. The specials looked tasty, although we ordered off the menu. Chicken wing soup was very nice. The only downside was that the coffee was weak. Will definitely be going backnsoon to try some other dishes!
To be honest, I had driven by the Howling Rooster numerous times but the outside appearance had always been a deterrent to try the food here. One day after Church, we decided to come in for brunch / breakfast and do I regret not coming in sooner! The restaurant it self is cozy with about a dozen tables. The décor is centered around the howling rooster with pictures and props of roosters scattered around the place. The back wall has a list of daily specials and coffee/tea/etc.I ended up ordering the Big Daddy Platter which included country fried steak, biscuit and gravy, country potatoes, bacon, two eggs, and toast of my choice and my wife ordered the potato pancakes. We were both pleased with out meals. The potato pancakes were by far the best weve had in Buffalo and quite possibly the best weve ever had. The big daddy platter was definitely big and generous serving. The country fried steak was nice and crispy and went very well with the gravy. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the biscuit because it was very dense and heavy, not as light of a biscuit as I would have expected.Overall, a very satisfying meal and great gem! Definitely will be coming back with more friends!
Very disappointed in my first visit today. We waited 30min for our order to arrive which was sad as every table sat after we ordered got there food before us. My meat lovers omelette was a joke to be honest almost no meat at all and missing bacon which it was supposed to have. And tthe women I spoke to about it was not helpful and just made excuses. I will never go back to this place again not worth the time or money. Only good thing was the server Kelsey did a great job
Such a disappointment! Ive been wanting to visit the Howling Rooster for quite sometime, but the wait for a table is usually too long. My bf had gone earlier in the week and enjoyed it, so we thought wed give it a try for brunch. The service was awful! The bloody Mary was terrible and the food was ok at best. I dont think well be back.
Nice neighborhood cafe for breakfast or lunch, good selection including sausage and biscuits and all the usual items, plus some interesting specials on the board. Open on Thursday and Friday evening with music, but I havent been at that time. Parking lot isnt too big, but is handicapped accessible and roomy inside for wheelchairs.
I was a little disappointed in the service, the waitress was very nice but service was very slow, it was over 45 minutes for our food and we didnt even get our salads until our food came and I asked where they were, but the food was very good we still will go back again!!!
Service was great. Food not so much. We had breakfast. Home fries awful, some not fully cooked, with strange looking orange coloration on potatoes. They left out the fried in home fries. More like steamed. Bacon overcooked & left out on stove. Not just extra crispy but leftover from yesterday dried out. And only one slice of toast on each dish? For a 2 egg, home fries, 1 slice toasted Italian bread, & bacon, $7.99? Wont be back. Glad I had a gift certificate to pay for most of the bill.
Solid breakfast spot with large portions.Have had many different items including eggs Benedict, omelettes, skillets, French toast, pancakes, etc.Have not been disappointed yet.Strong coffee.Takes reservations.Private lot.Beer and wine available.Would recommend.May need a nap after you eat here.
One of the worst breakfast experiences Ive ever had. We ordered early on a Sunday morning and it wasnt very busy. I sat down with a family of three and we got one of the worst waitresses weve ever had. What do you want? She said to me as she began taking orders, all the while smacking gum against her teeth. Then, we waited 45 mins for food; only for one of the orders to be wrong. After correcting her, she simply said No, as if Im lying about what I want for breakfast. We then told the staff we no longer wanted to wait for the meal to be corrected because the others would be cold by then, so we left. Aftering saying Were never coming back again (I was bitter), we were met with a I hope you dont. Keep in mind this yelling happened in an open seated room, so everyone looked on as the terrible staff were yelling at customers. Never got to try the food, and never want to.
My wife was meeting her friend for breakfast today, arrived about 10 mins early and asked for a table for 2. The hostess told her that since her whole party was not present (mind you a table for two)that she could not be seated and had to wait. Now mind this normally would not be an issue but my wife is very obviously 9 months pregnant , there was no seating available while being told to wait and there were at least 6 or 7 tables open. Im not saying we expect special treatment but a little consideration would have been nice.
Haven’t even eaten yet but leaving this review because they have noise canceling sound treatments in the restaurant. You can actually talk when the place is packed. Bravo to the owner because most people don’t notice these small details but it has a great impact on the experience. Okay put the phone away.
My friend and I went here for the first time yesterday. We were greeted by a woman who immediately bombarded us at the door with an alcohol drink menu (at 9:15am) after we said no thank you she continued to talk up every drink to us, I got the impression she had been drinking her self but gave her the benefit of the doubt since it was morning. My friend asked if she was the owner, she said yes then continued to tell us she had been sampling her own drinks until late the night before. She kept interrupting herself and introducing the young hostess who was standing behind her, (by three different names, first Madison, then Laura then Amanda????) Once we got to our table I thought we’d finally have the peaceful breakfast we came for but as soon as our food arrived she came at us with the dinner menus and wouldn’t stop talking about that!! The food was good, so I guess if the owner isn’t around it may have been a nice experience but we definitely won’t be going back.
Let me start off by saying that we almost never post reviews much less say anything in a restaurant unless it was really bad. We were extremely disappointed. First off, they were out of crepes, which is the main reason we chose to eat there in the first place. The service was good, but the food quality was subpar and we waited forever for our food. When I say forever, I mean 30min + and most tables who were seated after us and ordered after us all got their food before us. Not to mention the omelet that was ordered was not very good and 1/3 of the size of other breakfast places (weve been to plenty). I usually cant finish my plate when weve gotten breakfast at other places and we both left hungry. We werent going to say anything, but the manager/owner/head server (couldnt tell who she was, she never introduced herself) must have sensed something was wrong so she came over and asked. We reluctantly told her, and instead of apologizing and fixing it she just made excuses and made it worse. Will not be back. Will save my patronage for places like Campfire Grill, S. Transit Diner, Kalamatas etc where you get your moneys worth.
Great diner with tasty food and reasonable prices. The service isnt the greatest but dont let that deter you from coming. Interesting and large selection of food. Its the kind of restaurant where they put the menu on the chalkboard wall so that helps the ambiance a little. The Rio grande breakfast is my favorite.
Worst restaurant experience in my entire life! Our server was dumb as a rock and often a total mumble-mouth. He didnt even try remembering who ordered what. When the food came, it was flat out cold. Two of us got some biscuits and gravy dish and the gravy was cold and coagulated. We were offered a 15% discount on those two dishes, sent our food back and some time later were served yet another cold dish of biscuits and gravy, at which point I asked for a manager. The chef came out and was prepared to do battle. He understood we were served cold food two times in a row and our third friend was already done eating. I told him he shouldnt be serving ANYONE food that is not prepared to the proper temperature and the cocky manager asked me if I was with the Health Department. Of course not! Half of us here have worked in the food industry and we all know this isnt right!!! He was COMPLETELY non-apologetic. We accepted his offer of 50% off our next two orders and got something different, but when the bill came he only gave us 15% off. What a crack pot operation! I was angry and embarrassed about the whole situation and I will never be going back.
Food was good. Service was horrible. Potatoes could of been cut smaller. Was out of steak and potato pancakes at 12:30pm this is unacceptable. Never checked to see if we needed more coffee. I asked for a pen before the credit card was ran then when he gave me my card back he gave me three more pens to sign one check to me that was him being a smart ass.
Let me first start off by saying the parking lot is always overflowing and there is usually a line out the door. With that said we did not have a good experience at the howling rooster. they were significantly under staffed to the point where service was horrible and the line out the door is apparently because it takes them forever to seat people. They got both my order and my wifes order incorrect and did not apologize. Our waitress had a pretty bad attitude and we werent sure if she even knew what she was doing. While were happy that there are places to eat around our house we will definitely not be going back. And strongly do not recommend.
A group of friends and myself visited this restaurant early morning on a Sunday. The wait to be seated was normal for Buffalo dining. After we had been seated, we were waiting an additional hr for our food. The result was us leaving as our food was being walked out. Overall wait was 2 hrs. 6 omellettes. Takes a few min to make an omelette. Worse service I have ever had.
The fish is cod and its beer batter and very good. Service is fast and friendly and the price is right. Deserts change week to week and are off the hook They also feature Prime Rib on Saturday night, but I havn. If you follow my reviews you know I have a weakness for Bacon Blu Burgers Theirs is AWESOME
I would go back but my only complaint is when our server brought the food out to us.. He was holding my plate right up to his chest ..and my coleslaw was up against his shirt .actually was on his shirt to be honest. I didnt want to complain at the time but that was really gross and I didnt eat it... If I go back I hope I dont get him again.
Ive eaten here twice now and have been supremely disappointed in one particular item on the menu both times. The first time I ordered the special of the day that was described as French Toast with blueberry glaze. My assumption was that this would be your standard egg battered texas toast with a blueberry topping. Boy was I ever wrong. What came out was a sugary piece of texas toast with blueberry flavoring baked into the bread (like a cinnamon swirl bread) and a powdered sugar glaze on it. When I questioned this to the waiter and told him this was NOT how french toast was made as it lacked any egg batter coating he said thats just how the chef made it. I ended up helping a friend eat her biscuit and gravy dish instead which was great. Fast forward 3 months to a brunch buffet I attended that included french toast. Once again this bread was lacking any sort of coating that one would consider french toast. Im not sure what the issue is in the kitchen: does nobody know what french toast is or do they not think they need to explain on their menu that they dont serve it the traditional way? The brunch french toast did seem to have some sort of cooked egg like appearance on the center of the the bread but the edges were dry and crunchy, not at all what french toast should be like. It was as if they spread some egg batter on the middle and laid it on the griddle. Over all I think this place could very likely have excellent food, thats only if you dont expect them to make french toast correctly.
This place was an okay place to dine because I like the descent sized portion even though in all reality I had to order 2 meals to get what I want. They arent flexible with substitutions and dont do refills. My food took what felt like forever and it was only me and my 3 friends. Overall I probably wont go back.
Arrived with wait time of 45 mins to an hour for a table. No issues with that. We were seated and told the kitchen was backed up for breakfast. There were many tables without food before us. Ended up waiting over an hour for eggs... My biggest issue was how it was handled. The manger/owner only put the blame on us the customer saying didnt anyone tell you the kitchen was backed up which they did but not more than an hour for eggs. She ended up also saying your ticket hasnt been in a full hour. Well true its been in for 50 mins and 10 mins of waiting for someone to take our order which we had 4 people come to our table refilling coffee the whole time. Bottom line dont blame your customers because you cant accommodate them. The wait time of an hour to get a table is totally normal on a Sunday. More than an hour seeing nothing on your table for breakfast is simply unacceptable.
Ordered take out as my usual spot was closed for memorial day. First the waitress didnt give me full change i was owed .69 which isnt a big deal but the fact that she shorted me then told me have a nice day was rude. Second i walked in the woman who passed by me not once not twice but three times didnt greet me or even acknowledge me, so i sat on the bench and waitind to be helped. Another couple walk3d in after me and a hostess walked right up asked them how many and where they would like to be seated and then looked at me and asked if id been helped... not only that i got about 10 to 15 squares of potatoe homefries my toast is a piece of bread with butter and im scared to eat my omelet... will not, ever, ever go here again.
The restaurant was clearly understaffed, but the staff was not upfront about how long the wait would be. A backed up kitchen for breakfast makes me think that a normal 10-15 minute wait will be 20-25 minutes. We waited over an hour before asking the status of our breakfasts. When we asked our waitress how long it would be for our food because if it wasnt ready we needed to leave (had over an hour drive home and didnt expect breakfast to be ending at 1pm) she said she would check. Instead of checking, she walked coffee around to other tables. In this situation, an apology and some sympathy that our wait was absolutely absurd would have gone a long way. Instead, we got a very rude response that our check hasnt been in for an hour yet. How is an hour for eggs even remotely acceptable? Bottom line, if your kitchen is backed up and your restaurant is having a tough day accommodating the business, dont blame the customers.

2022-05-30Fun place for dinner and drinks! The Electric Lemonade was perfect. The turkey melt was delicious and they have crispy fries. Also highly recommend the chicken stir fry. The beans were so tasty. They also have a good amount of outdoor seating.

2022-07-01There are no shortage of rooster’s in the decor here. So far I’ve only had breakfast, but every meal has been spot on. The tropical mimosa’s are delicious and have a great kick. I look forward to stopping by for karaoke!

2022-03-12Edit to the first post:This is our second time coming here. We were seated right away and greeted by our server within seconds. Today I ordered the western omelet, artisan toast with home fries, added onions and green peppers to it. It was so full of flavor and outstanding!Very warm atmosphere. We were seated right away and the service was fast and very friendly. Ordered the Rio Grande breakfast bowl, it was absolutely delicious and very flavorful. It came with toast as well and man, that bread was just as amazing! It was fresh and hot, butter was already melting and damn near melted in my mouth! I also ordered a side of bacon. It was perfect, crispy but not too much, and tasted like heaven. We will be returning in the future!!

2021-11-26Good place for breakfast! I had the Polish sausage bowl. It came with Wardynski Polish Sausage for $14.49. It was quite a large serving. Not really a lot of sausage (it was cut in thin quarters too) but the bowl was deep with potatoes, green peppers and onions.

2022-06-14Food was good. I got the eggs Benedict with gravy sausage and biscuit. It was very filling but a bit too dense for me.

2021-07-25Very tasty flavor. Impressed by the eclectic menu. I ordered the Crabby Benny and the best presented Bloody Mary Ive ever had. Only downside was the long wait for food but I will give this place another CHANCE on the service.

2022-05-02Went here on a Saturday evening for supper with some local friends. This place was in walking distance of their home. They had a blast menu for dinnertime and both dinner and lunch menus were being served. Our friends did say the menu changes up often due to a very creative chef in the kitchen. This was a neat feature but may make it hard for picky eaters. The fries were great, very crispy and a great texture. We also had the fried burrata as an appetizer and it was crispy and creamy and just perfect! The menu features higher end, more expensive options, along with more affordable options. The drink menu was very detailed, which as a fairly inexperienced drinker was very appreciative! My chicken sandwich was fantastic as was my sisters burger. The kitchen was very knowledgeable on allergy information (and their pesto is completely nut free) which was very helpful to us. Overall great bang for our buck, and generous portions. We will be back!

2022-05-13My husband was reluctant to go to this restaurant because he didnt like the name so I had to surprise him because we met a friend. We sat in the high top bar area for dinner because it was more lively. Menu was innovative and great variety of choices. Sometimes you just want a burger and my was perfectly cooked to my request. Good value for your money also. One woman was treating her whole family including grandkids , like a table of 15 and they were all happy. I heard this place has late hours, didnt ask how late the kitchen was open. Lots of parking, but locals walk there
