Its a very small museum. The exhibit I saw was very interesting and well presented. They dont have a permanent collection so you have to check what on display at any time. The outdoor space also looked good but the weather did not permit us to go outside. We got a group tour at a reasonable price. It will take about 90 minutes to see everything at a very comfortable pace.
Excellent exhibit: Long, Winding Journeys - Contemporary Art and the Islamic TraditionArt from 30 Middle Eastern and South Asian artists in a variety of media. Includes over 50 works in calligraphy, architecture, textiles, paintings, geometric patterning. Etchings, lenticular print, movable geometric wooden tiles, photography, and video.
Tries to confront big issues, but does a poor job. For example, the museum mentioned Columbus as being a bad historical actor but gave no supportive context or information to explain its position. It also glossed over similar issues. I am open to these ideas but left somewhat disappointed.
Very lack luster. I was told they offer a teacher discount upon arrival, then they said that they dont honor the discount for Connecticut teachers. They then proceeded to take 10 minutes trying to take a credit card for the over priced museum fee. The art was overwhelmingly simplistic and lacked any semblance of warmth. One saving grace was their patio which hosted 10 or so hammocks which was fun. Id skip this place and head to Caramoor in Katonah.
Great for kids! I went with a friend and we took our kids, 8, 3, 1 and 7 months. Everyone enjoyed it. The exhibit area is small but impactful. The paintings were colorful and engaging enough to keep the attention of the little ones and there was plenty of themes, shapes and favorite parts to discuss with the older kids. Then we spent a couple of hours in the children’s art area where they painted, collaged, drew and experimented with the various brushes and rollers that were available. We had such a great time I got a membership and look forward to many more fun afternoons here.
Ive been to many art museums but this was very nice and larger than I expected looking at it from the outside. A lot of care and thought went into it. Theres a lot of parking and rooms for exhibit quaint in my personal view. The back of it was open and nice to linger taking in the atmosphere. I will go back and recommend it.
Very small place, features three rooms for exhibits and one for children. Has an outdoor seating area to relax and eat as food and drink are (understandably) prohibited within. Its only $10 for entree, children 12 and under some free, seniors and students get discounts. Very kind staff, although its a pretty far out location, not a must see, more of a should see .
The people are so nice and the art is beautiful. It is so wonderful that you can submit your art and let the public see it. The art is always changing so you will always see something new and different. And the art is from different schools, and so many kids. There are also differant types of art

2022-04-09Very unusual experience, not too small, not too large, you will need 30 min approx here, depending if you like it but it’s for those who has a great imagination, not straight forward kinda people). Upside Down world is found here. Read. Not posting all pictures because you have to see it yourself too. Kids will have a room to play here, outdoor garden has tables to sit down and eat among giant trees. Students have discounts) They have different exhibitions so perhaps you will see different kind of works. Dali, Miro, Bosch works were there too, unexpectedly.

2022-04-20Very small (4 rooms and a courtyard), but the exhibits were memorable and well-curated. Certainly worth checking out if you’re spending the day in Katonah.

2022-01-17My husband and two daughters went to the museum for a nice Sunday afternoon out and unfortunately we were only there for 10-15 minutes max because an employee literally kept staring at us (not even subtly) as we tried to enjoy the exhibits - We have never felt so uncomfortable in our lives it was horrible. We moved to one side and she moved also and just stood there staring as if we were going to steal something - I asked her if there was a reason she was staring and she said they have to watch everybody although there were others in the museum that werent being watched - so instead of feeling uncomfortable, we left - the supervisor tried to offer complementary tickets to come back another time but I wouldnt want to risk that happening again and having my family feel so uncomfortable again.

2022-05-17I went to visit the museum today. Yes, it says on the website that they’re STILL requiring masks, which in the arts is unfortunately still be required at a few institutions. I don’t have masks anymore because it’s May ‘22. This museum charges money for disposable masks!!!! After dealing with the obviously judgmental gallery attendant, I’ve been permanently put off from this place. The last time I visited the artwork was mediocre at best. I hope for more tolerance from art institutions, but they all seem to only welcome visitors who have points of view that align with theirs.

2022-04-16Awfully bad experience we had today at this museum with my kids. First of all, it’s super tiny museum, you’ll probably need 10 min the most to walk through 3 small rooms. Next, not friendly personal. The lady who worked there had to literally watch our every single step, and God Forbid we were too close standing to the exhibit then she would come over super frustrated and with a raised voice talk to my kids and I. Obviously this worker never had kids, because if she would we would probably realize that kids don’t understand that standing too close to the exhibit is prohibited. She actually even told us that if we touch any of the exhibits then we would have to pay for it. I mean, if this museum is that concerned about standing there too close then maybe they should invest into a separation chains that would not allow people to come and stand so close to those exhibits. I really felt that I need to write this review so other families with kids would avoid this place by all means. If you wish to be glared and stared by the personnel and talk to you in a very rude way then this place is for you!

2020-09-02My biggest concern in traveling to Katonah in August 2020, the year of the double pandemic, is am I going to be safe as a black woman in areas I am not familiar with. I am so happy to say that the Katonah Museum of Art was a beautiful, welcoming and a safe haven of culture, discovery and respite. I was able to enjoy the artwork of Bisa BUTLER’s exhibit and the museum staff were friendly, kind and well informed.

2019-05-30Small museum! Came here for the Namaste Yoga which was a neat event of yoga and museum admission. The exhibits were mostly paintings and canvas landscapes and it was pleasant. They also have tables and chairs to sit outside and enjoy the view.
