Food was amazing. I admit it wasnt my first choice, but Im extremely happy we went. Prices are worth what you getThe Henny Piña Colada, the calamari, everything was perfect. Our server Jay went above and beyond. If you want a restaurant that has excellent food and service in City Island, this is the place to go.
We started with drinks and appetizers. I had one original mojito and my wife had a mango mojito. (Theres only about three drinks on their menu besides beer and a little wine) so I figured they had to be good, but I was wrong. We had a nice size plate of calamari which was fair, but it was a large portion. The lobster bisque didnt have one drop of lobster or anything hard in it. It was like a brown tomato soup. They had pretty good bread.By the by the time we tried the drinks and appetizers we didnt make me wanted to stay for dinner. This place has a tiny menu. The lobster box is shouting for somebody to buy it with a great vision of what this restaurant could, and should be. With a very nice menu, and some really good drinks, and of course a wonderful chef...
City Island has been well known for its seafood and some long-standing really good restaurants. Lobster Box is one of these, situated right at the east end, with nice views of Long Island Sound through ample windows. The decor is wonderfully old-line, with dark woods and that traditional feel. A bonus-in-its-absence is the lack of a bunch of weird nautical chachkas hanging around. Theres also an old-fashioned bar with that great kind of ambience. The elegant simplicity of it allows total enjoyment of great food. The menu is not huge, which I have found to be a plus, as the preps can be done with better focus on quality vs quantity. Prices are actually quite fair, given todays volatile market. Service and quality were top-notch and accommodatingFood-wise, we has a calamari appetizer that was plentiful and tasty; also noteworthy is that it was not overly bready or greasy. Entrees of broiled shrimp and crab cakes were nicely prepared and accompanied by roasted red potatoes and steamed broccoli, which was done perfectly: tender and fresh-green in color; not washed-out as sometimes happens elsewhere. Dessert was a fine tartufo, obviously not home-made but still really refreshing.Overall, a restaurant worth the trip to and through a still-charming enclave that is City Island.
Administration attention, the managers daughter cannot be in charge of seating or assigning tables to clients. she is totally a mess. We where a group of 6 people and waited for more than an hour, however more than 6 groups that arrived after us were served first. I asked her why if the tables in the middle were empty they would not assign them. she replied that the place never occupies the middle tables in front of the bar. It is a very strange way of doing business. not tempting as they let go a group of people who are obviously going to consume only for not occupying approximately 6 tables. Or is it that she wanted them for someone of her preference? after the long wait we never sat down and we had to leave the place. Since the children, especially one of them who is diabetic, was crying from hunger. They totally ruined the special day that we had already prepared to spend with the family, this left us with very bad breath. we are very angry with this joben and the administration of the place. the young woman is very arrogant and incompetent. To owner: if you don’t want to loose your business your need some drastic changes
I was a little confused about why this place was the only one on City Island that didnt have a line going down the street. If I had to guess it might be the prices? My wife and I stopped in for margaritas and the Clams Casino. The margaritas were strong and tasty, and the Clams Casino was okay. The service was good, and the place seemed okay. Its pretty pricey for what it is, but it might be worth it to pay the extra money and not wait on a line for 2 hours.
The hostess promptly seated us. The waiter was very good. The crabcake appetizer was okay, nothing great. The bread and salad were good. The fillet of sole was okay. Its a bland fish that should have flavor from the way its prepared. This didnt. The roasted potatoes were very good. The shrimp scampi was good. The shrimp florentine was okay. They gave us complimentary dessert, which was decent. Depending on where you sit, you can see the water. There is valet parking.
Awesome seafood restaurant, located at famous City Island. Many delicious quality food to choose from, and of course the lobster. Great friendly staff. Fairly priced, compared to other restaurant in the area. Highly recommended, Ill certainly will go back again, and again.
Usually Lobster Box service and food is on point. We had to wait for a while for the waiter to take our order. I order the jumbo fried shrimp with baked potato and broccoli. The shrimp was okay but the baked potato was no good. It was dark on the inside like it been in the warmer for a while. I have been going there for years but will take my time returning.
This is my absolute favorite restaurant in City Island! From the starters to the dessert the quality and tastes of everything was outstanding. The food is always fantastic and no matter what I order I am always delighted with my meal. Service is also always great and they’re always efficient, happy and polite to myself and any guest that I bring with me. They are extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations. This past weekend I had a party of 10 celebrating my mother’s 50th birthday and we had a wonderful time and was well accommodated by the manager and servers. My guests enjoyed their individual meals as well as the shared appetizers! I’ve almost tried everything on the menu so I know they never disappoint. My personal favorite is their Jumbo Snow crab legs and their grilled octopus is a must if you’re new to the restaurant! Highly recommend!
The restaurant is near the end of the strip with a decent view of the water. We had a party of nine for an informal family reunion. This was my kids first time in City Island, whereas I grew up in NY. I wanted this experience to be special and fun for them. My favorite restaurant, Annas Harbour, no longer exists, so I asked for recommendations on the local City Island Facebook page and many people mentioned the Lobster Box. I was disappointed. This place was not good. The wait time just to place a simple drink orders, then waiting for them to bring the drinks, then literally them walking away without taking the appetizer order , waiting to place the appetizer orders, then waiting to receive food that was mediocre. No one in my party was happy with their food. My salmon was overcooked while my broccoli was basically raw. It definitely wasnt the worst food weve ever had, but it wasnt the best and for the price I would never do it again. The bright side is this place was only a 30 second walk to Tonys Pier where my kids were able to feed the seagulls. 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
Visited for the 1st time, and the experience was great. The waiters were prompt and kind. The food was exceptional. My boyfriend ordered twin lobster tails and rated it a 4 out of 5. I ordered the salmon and it was the most flavorful and tender portion Ive ever eaten. Even the broccoli was mouth watering delicious (Ive never been excited about tasty broccoli before but this broccoli was by far the best). I enjoyed the starter italian salad and the oh so damn good italian bread. Would definitely recommend this place! !!
Surprisingly good food. I dont understand why only 8 tables were occupied and 2 entire sections closed. This place should have been very busy. Meatballs halibut, lobster ravioli and calamari we all very good. Great service and atmosphere. Plenty of parking. Well be back to try more of their menu.
Beautiful outside seating by the water, I was a little taken back by the menu pricing, its quite expensive but they give HUGE portions. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Its a huge place with tons of areas for seating. We spent over $200 and got a complimentary amaretto on the rocks. Very kind gesture...last but not least the food was delicious. Cooked perfectly. The penne with vodka sauce is so amazing. I would drive an hour again just for that alone.
The worst seafood place in the area by far. The only scenario in which I could see myself in recommending this place to someone is if I wanted them dead.First things first, the heat. Now, in the summer, I can understand air conditioners breaking from overuse, but that was not the case here. We were in a private party room, so we were able to request the air conditioning to be turned up. After making I request, an employee came in and its so. Only, that didnt help in the slightest. So, someone in our party turn the air conditioning to a different setting themselves. Still nothing. Once again, we asked an employee to change the air conditioning. The air conditioning never did come. The room felt like a microwave, in which we were desperately waiting to get free. What we discovered, after some of us had left the room to use the facilities, the main dining area and even the bathrooms were colder than our room. This was extremely frustrating, as one of the members in our party was 9 months pregnant and had to leave early due to the heat, which could have forced her to have an early delivery. At the very least, this could have been disclosed to the person person who booked our party, but it was not.Next, the staff. The manager is extremely rude. Her additude in response to an issue that has yet to be mentioned, 5 guests in our party serious emotional distress. She argued with the person who booked our party and two other members of said party, even try to drag other servers into the dispute. The servers were fine.Lastly, the food.Lets start with drinks. Most everyone had a good experience with their drinks except for me, as something unbeknownst to me had caused me a moderate allergic reaction that forced me to step out of the presentation room for some time. There was only one member of our party who ate her food after receiving it, as the rest of us packed it up because it was later than we had expected to end and we were uncomfortable from the heat. The steak she had ordered was undercooked (relative to the well done temperature she had requested), so she asked them to take the same stake and cook it more.Once the steak was returned to her, after she tasted it she said something was off with the flavor. This worried us, as she has a severe shellfish allergy. She asked if she could get chicken instead, the person she had to ask for left to get the waiter, which took around 30 minutes. Much to our dismay, the waiter said that she would not be able to exchange it because she had requested the chicken when she first received the steak after seeing that it came with pasta. She said that if a dish tastes bad, it should always be exchanged and the manager agreed; at first, she said that she wasnt able to help us because the head of the party was there, but changed her words to say that because she had asked for the chicken earlier she was not allowed to have it, due to the fact that the head of our party hadnt even left. At this point we were all very frustrated and genuinely uncomfortable with the thought of her receiving another order of any kind of food from this restaurant at this time, for fear that they may do something to her food. All in all, it was a terrible experience and none of us would want to find ourselves here again.Edit; after getting home, since my food was prepared before the incident above had happened, i decided to taste my food.It was mediocre at best.
Happy Mothers Day!This was a great place to celebrate our special day. The service was excellent, the food was on point, the atmosphere was so inviting and clean. The prices were a little steep, but Im alright with that when everything else coincide with it.I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning soon.
We had a big party and a fixed menu. Originally, I asked what did the chicken come with on the side, they said potatoes, so I ordered a well done steak instead. Then when the food came out, I saw the chicken came with pasta, so I asked if they can change it, they said no, so I said no problem. When the steak came out, it was medium well (not well done). So I sent it back to cook some more, and when it finally came out, it tasted very weird. So I said can I get the chicken instead, they took 20 mins to “get the waiter” and then he said he can’t change it because the manager said that I had requested chicken before. I stated, if a dish taste bad, it should always be exchanged and she said she agreed but because I asked for the chicken, I couldn’t change it anymore. They were being very rude, made me feel extremely uncomfortable and I wouldn’t recommend any big parties to go to this restaurant. The Manager provided bad service, the waiter was okay, and the busboy was nice. If you are considering a birthday party or business meeting (which is what we had) DO NOT COME HERE
I made a reservation for 1:30pm for a family of 15 a week before for mothers day. We walked in and it was a good seating arrangement with window view of water, not bad and one side of window had views of some backyard of not well maintained homes. The server, Lisa was very nice. The place seemed dated, there were ceiling tiles throughout that had evidence of leakage including in the mens restroom. There were some parts of walls that had evidence of leakage. The food was good however, a tad bit greasy for me but not bad. The menu was prefixe not what we thought when going online looking at menu. All in all, we made good memories with the family so that was the amazing part.
Lobster Box I felt was just okay to good. Bartender was great and he makes a great cocktail. Bread put on table was nothing special. The calamari was pretty good and unfortunately the mozzarella sticks tasted like they were out of a box. Nothing special whatsoever. Hubby had the crab cakes and said they were just ok. The restaurant has a nice view over the water but disappointing that it’s not outside with those views. I can say this: the restaurant seems as if it could use an upgrades and updating, bathrooms especially.
This was our first time at the Lobster Box! Our family and I enjoyed our visit. Our Waitress Lisa was very attentive and always had a smile which is very important now days. I saw a gentleman in white shirt walking back and forth assuming is the Manager/Owner, I like that management was engaging customers during service. Food was great, actually my first lobster 🦞!!!! We will be coming back to try other amazing dishes we saw coming from the kitchen!!!Keep the good work!!!
Considering there a long wait times, this place was not bad; the wait was 25-30 minutes on a Saturday night. Attentive servers. The food was great; delicious and excellent portion size. I would suggest staying away from the alcoholic beverages. The drinks are expensive and obviously watered down. Didn’t seem like our drinks contained any at all.
This rating is strictly on my experience with your order taker. I understand that we all have to adjust to the new normal, however employees should still maintain a sense of hospitality and professionalism. The person who took our order was devoid of both. The food however was delicious and plentiful and the staff outside were friendly and accommodating. I took 2 stars of for the intinial impression because first impressions absolutely count. My intention with this review is for management to be aware as I see that I am not the only one who has had this experience with your order taker.thank you.
We ordered lobster rolls and they were the most disgusting food I’ve ever ordered. It never occurred to us to ask if we were getting Maine lobsters and if the lobster would be cold and if it would include mayo. The lobsters were all white so clearly not from Maine, cooked hot and had a cream sauce smothering them!! Revolting.Disgusting. Do not go here if you want a traditional Maine lobster roll or even one that has butter on it instead of mayo. We were shocked. I am still sick to my stomach thinking about it.
I have to say this place wasnt me or my husbands first choice but im SO GLAD we went the food was delicious. The Henny colada was so good we ordered another round, AND the little neck clams 1/2 dozen for a appetizer tasted so fresh and the crab cakes wasnt bad either. We ordered the special jumbo fried shrimp with french fries and coleslaw AGAIN absolutely delicious the shrimp, the fries perfectly seasoned. The server was awesome no complaints. Overall a great experience.
I recently visited this place and Im confused by the rating. For me the food wasnt great at all. Wasnt seasoned well and not much variety. I had a large party perhaps 15 people and they put us in the back. We were not attended too very well and there isnt any outdoor seating. Unfortunately I will not be visiting again.
This place can be very pricey at the moment. However, it is worth every penny!!! The food celebrates in your mouth, it did not take too long getting your food and they have dine outs during this pandemic. Also the waiters are nice and they make sure you are taken care of.
I don’t usually leave reviews but this has been my most disappointing experience at a restaurant. Menu is very limited, I got the steak and lobster tails the food is over priced and bland. customer service could’ve been way better. Bathroom was dirty. Will not go here again.
The dining area was nice and clean, the host takes your temperature and then seats you. You also have to fill afore for contact tracing.. Service was great by Jo but food was no good. I had the captains choice which comes with mussels, clams lobster tail and 3 filet, calamari and mango colada with rum. The calamari was soft and string like didnt finish it. The captains choice, I didnt like the filet. I felt like it was not seasoned at all. The clams were just okay and the lobster was just the same. The drink was no rum just the mango and mixture. Overall the experience was okay. Mask up😷
Very poor customer service and the food is just as awful. The bosss son who is in charge is very rude and disrespectful to customers and does not know how to provide a great customer experience. He looks down on minorities and is very condescending Do not come here. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. This is a disgusting place.
The drinks are really good, not watered down or packed with too much ice, just right, and the food is really really great! The servers are really polite and wonderful and u always have a doggy bag to take home with u because theres so much food when u order yur plate! Me and family have been there a few times and well always go back!
We originally were going to Sammys but once we saw the long line to get in we decided to go to Lobster Box and man thank God we did because THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! My lady had the broiled king crab legs, I had the broiled seafood platter that came with a lobster tail, shrimp, sole, clams, and mussels. My son had the snow crab legs, and my daughter had the surf and turf. Two lobster tails and a nice piece of steak! OMG the steak was delicious even with her having it cooked well done. ( medium rare is my preference). The place is pricey but WELL WORTH IT! service wasnt that great but Im going to say that was due to them being short staffed. I had the Henny colada which was also good! Plenty of Henny! I definitely recommend this place! Atmosphere isnt bad either.
Went out to dinner with my family and we had a great time from the beginning of our experience to the end the parking lot had enough spaces so we didnt have to go round and round looking for a spot we were greeted quickly and the hostess was friendly and even made a couple of jokes on the way to the table the server was efficient and always available and the food was delicious we will definitely be returning
Hello. Myself and several friends went to the Lobster Box to celebrate our birthdays. We had a wonderful time. The party started the minute we walked in. The gentleman greeted us at the door with a big smile. What a great experience. Lisa was our server and she was really really nice and went above and beyond her call of duty. 😄🥰💃. Im planning a bigger party in the future and I found the place to hold it. Thank you
Went there tonight for my first anniversary. Was skeptical after reading reviews, glad we didnt listen to the reviews. Appetizers and main course were delicious, so much food couldnt eat it all. Drinks were also good. Waiter was polite and catered to our needs. Saw a dish that I thought was part of the menu, showed the picture manager was willing to cook it. Will go back again.
I held an anniversary party for family and friends there. From planning to hosting, management and staff could not have been nicer. The service was wonderful and the food even better. The drinks were excellent and not watered down like in other places. Everyone was very happy and it was worth every penny. Would definitely consider hosting future events at The Lobster Box again.
My wife and I came for lunch and enjoyed it immensely. Jorge was our waiter and he was excellent. Very friendly and professional. Our food was delicious. My wife had the lobster bisque and I had the lobster roll. After the meal, Jorge took the time to show us around and answered any questions we had. He was great! Ask for Jorge!!
Food is outstanding!! Keeping in true city island tradition, food is served in generous portions, however it doesnt detract from the quality. Drinks are also served in large glasses with little ice. The wait staff has always been polite and knowledgeable about the menu. Booth seats have good window views of the water. No loud music plays during the day leaving you enjoying the ambiance. Night time can have a trendy crowd and mood lighting.
I made a group reservation for 30 guests, the food and service was amazing. The Lobster Box personnel are a seasoned and professional team. My tour group consisted of 27 seniors and they were treated like royalty. Great food and view! Thank you Ezequiel & team for this memorable day. We will be back soon!
45 minutes from Queens center. Worth the ride. Excellent and professional staff, be ready to get your temperature measured and fill out your contact information, but believe me you are going to be completely satisfied. Went there on Sunday Oct 25@ 4ish. Hot a table right away. Nice and tasty surf and turf.and seafood pasta platter. Price can be up to $5.00 above average, but it was worth it. We got the strawberry home made cake onthe house. Glass of wine is well above 3 qtrs 9 0nces. Rarely get a half way glass served at other restaurants for the same price $9.00. I really enjoyed it amd will be returning soon.
I am not new to the Lobster Box although it has been a long time since my last visit. What I instantly liked was being seated upon arrival. That is very noteworthy and set the tone for the meal. I noted the layout was spacious and a skillful blend of casual and formal dining spaces. We were seated in a booth with a great view of the water. Our server, Cosmos, was attentive, knowledgeable, and competent. My mother had just arrived from Atlanta and had not been to City Island in 30 years. We marked her return with a pair of mimosas. Thereafter, every thing we dined on was well-prepared--the garlic bread, Oysters Rockefeller, shrimp scampi, and complimentary salad. My compliments to the proprietor and staff! The Lobster Box is a treat from beginning to end.
10s across the boards! The ambience and the service was excellent! Our servers Jose and Reme were patience and very professional and very personable. The presentation and seasoning of every dish was amazing. I would recommend the Lobster Box for any special occasion!
Always known as the upscale finest restaurant on the island I stopped in at 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon. I immediately got a table.Service by Cosmo was excellent. The broiled captains platter was cooked to perfection - so fresh. Not to mention the lobster bisque and salad. Will visit again soon.
Service was outstanding. Cant remember his name. We were seated 10 minutes after we arrived, we were a large party on 11 on our way to the restaurant we were nervous that they wouldnt accommodate us because of the delay in traffic. Anyhow dinner was fantastic and also to our servers. Because of him i will indeed returned to this location.
I paid $80 for ok food. The fries were so good. The chicken fingers were really good. The lobster roll was not very good, and the fish n chips were not worth $25. It seemed like a good snack bar. They brought out a huge table salad with so many onions my eyes teared up, we told them not to put it down, so if that is a factor on why it was $80, then you need to ask people if they want a gross salad. We dont eat salad. The staff was super nice and the place looks nice and clean.
The two stars go for the waitress who was very and kind for our large party and for the manager who stopped by to check on us.I should have been a little suspicious however when there was plenty of space for a large party on a holiday. The food is probably why it was not packed. It was very bland and I ended up having to take it home to recook and season it myself. I sampled a couple of dishes and I was not impressed. Not somewhere I would return in the future.
Today, was my first experience at the Lobster Box Restaurant and it was disappointing. To begin, the individual who took my familys order seemed impatient by breathing heavy and tapping his fingers as we placed our order. Secondly, with the outdoor seating it was unclear where to sit and the servers barely came around to our table; and when asking for additional water the waiter responded by saying there was already enough water in the glass, but later poured it once he thought about how that sounded. This will be my one and only experience at the Lobster Box Restaurant!
Decided to Dine out and try Lobster box. Bad idea. First was asked by server, why did we have four menus? I replied dont know and that the wait staff placed on the table. Our waiter did not believe me and acted like I was not worthy of their service. The fried shrimp was ok, and the french fries mixed, between old and fresh. For the money you are expected to pay and not have a choice on how your potato is going to be cooked unacceptable. My wife and daughter seemed to enjoy their meal. I was not impressed and for a mid-week, service and a smile goes a long way.
Nice establishment, food is good but could be better.... The drinks are not that great. As a half Puerto Rican person I do not like when A Pina Colada is made lazy... It is supposed to be blended not served as an ice cream out of a machine, and add the rum. Also we had a meal that had chicken and it was weird the chicken cutlets that looked like salmon, and it was not cooked properly... Here come my Italian half comenonnow hard it is to not ruin chicken cutlets.... In this place very easy to ruin them the cutlets were still rubbery.. thank God for the Fried Calamari. And chicken wings. The salmon served was decent. Overall I give the place a 6 out of a 10. Maybe next time I decide to visit I get better experience since this time it was a Sweet sixteen. And when catering is done care is not Paramount in the caterer mind......makes you think doesnt it I said sarcasticly.
This is a decent looking location but the food is not impressive its cooked at the standard that you could finds in many of the restaurant in the area, nothing thats on the menu is different as well, the alcohol was a kick thats a plus why it got 3 stars. The restaurant does not add water and bread on the table which is standard.
Surprisingly fantastic spot for some really GREAT seafood!! Was not my first choice, but will be in the future!! Service was amazing, very good people, Make sure Honest Abe is your server, one of the best experiences in a while! Great place, great food, great people!
Had a wonderful experience last Friday at this restaurant. The service, good and ambience were all excellent. The food that was prepared and served was also excellent, ample, and delicious. I would certainly return in the spring for another dinner experience. Thank you.M. Lipson
Worst place in City Island from a service standpoint, My waiter seemed to be on something. first we were seated right away waiter came by right away to take order with giving us time to look over menu. Order drinks, took 30 minutes and he blamed bartender. ordered food took 50 minutes he blamed kitchen, and said he had to make the salad himself! then we ordered a ginger ale and some other drinks. at this point our waiter disappeared and I had to go to the bar myself to get my ginger ale and drinks. $260.00 later (party of four) I had to tell the Manager about our experience Enrique I believe. he apologized and explained I should have told him sooner he would of taken care of us. I let him know its not about a comp dish or drink that it was unacceptable service by one of his staff members. he gave me his card and told me to come back he would take care of us . No thanks I will spend my money elsewhere.
Jorges my guy. Always humble, gracious and attentive. The best server on City Island. Although I accidentally dropped a $100 bill in the restaurant (someone got free lunch today), I had a great time and a decent meal (our pasta and seafood needed just a little more seasoning) at the Lobster Box . I like that you can go off menu and customize your order. Fyi - the best time to go is right when they open. The food is fresh and the service is quick. Thx again Jorge!
Went last night for my sons birthday. Instead of club soda I got Sprite. Not a big deal but things got worse. My son ordered Alaskan King crabs. When the bus boy brought the food to the table our waiter realized the chef had prepared snow crabs by mistak so everyone got their appetizers while my son had to wait for his order to be prepared. Again not the worst thing and he said the crab was good when it finally arrived. My Arugula salad was floating in dressing it was horrible! The coconut shrimp was not even hot and was dried out. Tasted as if prepared ahead and warmed up. The steamed lobster was VERY over cooked! It was not even edible! These were the major problems with the meal; overall the meal was terrible and we will not be returning. I had to give one star but honestly that is generous.
We had the Dynamite Shrimp, Calamari and Shrimp Parmigiana which was absolutely delicious. The portions that they serve are large. I ate some of my food there and I had enough for 2 more meals after that. To drink we had the Henny Colada and Mango Mojito which were really good too. So far Ive been there 3xs within a month. And the summer isnt over yet.
If you like to waste money and eat mediocre seafood., then this is the restaurant for you! I should have know better when there were no delicious smells wafting through the air like other City Island restaurants. The only reason we went here was because Sammys (across the street) had a long wait line and my mother in law needed to eat something fast. I do not recommend the broiled salmon which I order. It was a bit fatty, tasteless and had no flavor. The potatoes were a bit oily and the broccoli was just as a bland. The lobster bisque tasted like something out of a can. There was a very small chunk of lobster in it to know that it was even a lobster bisque. It was not good. My family was mildly satisfied with their food which consisted of Jumbo Fried shrimp and Baby back ribs.Overall the food was VERY DISAPPOINTING and service was a bit slow. Though our waiter was very nice. Please note we went on Mothers day(May 8,2016) which only has a limited (holiday) menu. However if this is the quality of food given on a limited menu I can only imagine the other items on there. Do they have holiday chefs as well?I would definitely recommend choosing another place even if the wait is long. I would never visit this establishment again. All food is not created equal on City Island.
The best shrimp I tasted on city island thus far and the fries are much better than Tonys and Johnnys by far and I have been coming here since a little kid....drinks a little expensive compared to the other restaurants down the block, TONYS AND JOHNNYS. The king crab legs combo with shrimp was all that and a bag of chips!!! The broiled shrimp is a must try.....
Okay so ,,I had the baked clams which was not a good choice. They were browned on top but raw inside. I asked the waiter about it and he immediately said hold on I will get the manager..the manager came who insisted they were cooked..he took the plate which had six pieces and came back with four..they were burned now on top but still raw inside...I just placed it to the side...I also had mozzarella sticks that had a very thick and hard breading..I just ate around the breading and ate the cheese part...The lobster tail was not seasoned and the steak was below average. The reason I gave a single star is because I ordered the Alaskan king crab legs to go ..they came split already so I seasoned them a Lil at home so they were great and plentiful. .and the waiter was not hortific...My bill was enormous and the experience was mostly terrible...very over priced ..I do not recommend this the Lobster Box in city Island
The Lobster Box has a beautiful dining room setting that screams elegance. At first glance the menu seemed a little over priced, but my family enjoyed the food very much. The penne al a vodka was delicious and the steak was huge ! We got two orders of the Captions platter and I mostly enjoyed the coconut shrimp appetizer and the jumbo crab cake.
I came here with my cousin and we shared a huge meal and it was so delicious! I highly recommend Lobster Box restaurant, take your girl, or your family, and have the best time of your life stuffing yourself on crab, shrimp, and lobster. Sooooo gooooooood!!!!!!! Also nice view from the windows.
This place was amazing, inviting and welcoming. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was soo yummy. I especially loved, loved their Lobster Roll and the Paella was delish.. A great restaurant experience... you will not be disappointed. Need to do a return visit soon.
Listen to the other customers!! This place definitely sucks. We went on mothers day and that was a mistake. The selections were extremely limited. They didnt even have ranch dressing for the salad. smh. The salmon tasted as if it wasnt cleaned prior to cooking and it tasted fishy. The steak wasnt worth the price at all. I should of walked out when they bought out A1 sauce after i ordered the steak. Restaurants that cost $35 for Ny strip shouldnt have A1 steak sauce, at all.Addionally, the hostess was rude. We had a reservation that we were 10 minutes late for, due to terrible traffic. So we called to tell them that. The gentleman that answered the phone was kind and understanding. When we got there, the hostess was not. she stated no guy answered the phone and we would have to wait 20 minutes. she acted as if we made it up. She said she didnt know where we called but no guy picked up the phone. And of course the guy walked to the hostess desk and confirmed everything my wife was talking about. The hostess was speechless after that.Im giving this restaurant the benefit of doubt by saying that, i dont think they were prepared for the madness of Mothers day. Steps were undoubtedly skipped and it showed; ie, preparing the food, seasoning the food, cleaning the food, serving the food, pretty much everything.Lastly, I want to end on a good note. The manager was phenomenon. He was singing happy mothers day to other customers, which isnt my style but whatever. when we returned 1 item he came to the table and said he already removed it from our check. we told him about a second dish, and without hesitation he removed that item too. His professionism was amazing. Through all the chaos he remained a professional. Classy.ProsManagerConseverything else
Life long City Island Frequenter here. Sammys, Arties, and Crab Shanty are top picks on the Island however Lobster Box is often forgotten when discussing the top dogs of the waterfront. Seated all the way at the end, If you desire a stress free, quiet, and mature dining experience with a lovely view and more mature crowd then Lobster Box is your first choice. Service is exceptional , management will check on you personally to ensure satisfaction during your meal. The Lobster Ravioli is Sinfully delicious paired with a Pinot Noir or Classic White Mojito for those craving something a bit more sweet. Mamagent brought me and my fiancee a complimentary dessert even after we had declined ordering dessert and coffee after being full from the meal (who does that nowadays ?. Again, the aforementioned restaurants are legendary when thinking of City Islsnd , but all the way nestled at the end is a true hidden gem classic dining experience in the Lobster Box. Restaurant is spotless at alm times, music is low but audible, classic Lobster Aquarium at the entrance, and elegant bar set up. The extra quarter of the mile drive down to the end us well worth it, go now.
I went to this place and it was an hour wait period just to sit down. After this the hostess didnt give us a menu and i asked a server for one and he told us he had to wait for a menu on top of our wait. After this it took another hour just for the food that was not great for the high price and it couldve tasted better as well. After horrible service the waiter gave us the check and stood watching over us to see if we were giving him a tip and demanded we give him a tip which i find very rude i would not go here again.
LISTEN UP...DO NOT EAT AT THE LOBSTER BOX ON CITY ISLAND! I just left there a few mins ago because I saw my waiter in the kitchen grab what looked like a French fry off a plate and eat it. Then went back for a second. Turns out this was off MY PLATE! He brought the food out and when I confronted him he had the nerve to deny it. I SAW YOU! I can’t believe the audacity of someone to lie to a customer’s face then once realized he was caught, stone silence. He offered me another plate with different fries...AFTER YOU JUST DUG YOUR UNSANITIZED NON-VERIFIABLE HANDS IN MY PLATE YOU EXPECT ME TO TRUST YOUR INTEGRITY? I left without paying. I have never experienced anything like that in my life and I hope I never do again!
This place is garbage. Customer service is horrible especially front desk. I made a reservation that they completely disregarded and added me on the walk in list when I got there. It took 20 mins to get to the front desk and when I got there the guy at front desk yelled at the whole crowd saying we need to give him his personal space when we were all 3 feet away. Never again horrible trash sucks

2022-02-26I was in the 2nd party and 3rd in-house dining customer for the 2022 season. I have been coming here for over 20 years and have had many celebrations here. I was shocked to find a long strand of hair in my appetizer. Although, my waiter was kind and apologetic. I cannot get over how the owner greeted the couple 2 booths away from me and thanked them for being 1st customers. They talked about where they lived, common education backgrounds for their sons, octopus recipes, living in the same state and I did not even get a hello or thank for coming. There were only 3 customers in the restaurant at the time and the owner acted like he didnt see me. My lunch tab was $81.39 before the tip. Soup, salad and dessert are no longer included. I appreciate the waitstaff and manager welcoming me. Being overlooked by the owner seemed insensitive to me. was cause for the owner to treat me as invisible. Even the couple spoke to me before leaving. I think I heard them call him Tony. Tony, remember to be kind to everyone. I am now looking for a new hidden gem on City Island. Come on Google readers...help a sister out. Whats your favorite spot on the island? Let me know.

2022-05-07The food was great! I have no complain on the food. The thing for me was the service. The waiters give you the holiday menu, during the holidays, as if it’s the only menu they have. What if I didn’t want was on that menu? We asked for the regular menu, and they gave it to us because the manager got involved. The servers were okay, not friendly but alright. The managers have it in control but the waiters and hostess think they own the place. We got the check, and they added a $47 tip to the receipt without telling us and imposing we also gave them an extra tip. The waiters claim that it’s the holiday tip, when I didn’t agree to a holiday tip, and no where does it stipulate that it’s included in the check. But I repeat, the food was amazing, prices are higher but that’s just how it is. READ YOUR RECEIPTS PEOPLE! Don’t be fooled

2021-08-21The food was great. We went there to celebrate my grandmothers 92nd Birthday. We ordered the fried calamari and coconut shrimp as an appetizer. My sons ordered the shrimp and fries, my wife and grandmother ordered the twin lobster tails, and I had the shrimp and ribs.We ordered a cheese cake to put a candle in and sing happy birthday. Im not a cheese cake eater and I thought it was good and my grandmother loved it. The portion sizes were very good.
