I am very particular about my children’s education. When our family decided to make the effort to send our children to private school we really did our due diligence. I was looking for a school which had an international perspective (IB School) which was bilingual, had excellent after school activities and taught children to not only learn the essentials and beyond but also provide an environment that will develop the whole child including emotional intelligence and character. I can honestly say Lyceum Kennedy surpassed all my expectations. The school is quaint and the teachers are highly qualified and strict when I comes to learning the material and homework. When you walk down the halls, whether it’s kindergarten or grade 3 there is order and everyone is focused on their work or tasks. I know many schools nowadays have a more open free spirit approach. I can tell you the honest truth about this new age mentality, it is not productive and you may as well opt for public school. Last year I had my children in one of the top private school in New York and spent double tuition fees in comparison to Lyceum Kennedy and I witnessed my kids develop poor etiquette, manners and bad work ethic. This play based approach is not for me.Back to what is important, I love that Lyceum Kennedy is very multicultural. Many students are children of Diplomates but there is a good mix of children which naturally exposes children and teaches then to embrace diversity. The after school activities are excellent. I have enrolled my children in piano guitar, soccer, swimming and private french lessons as they are not native speakers. After only 4 months my children are speaking French! My only complaint is that the school doesn’t do much advertising and I wasn’t able to find it until this year! I wish I found this school the previous year as it would have saved me a lot of grief. My personal opinion is that it’s online presence and website does not match the high caliber of the school. Therefore, make sure you contact this school and schedule a tour. I guarantee you will be thoroughly impressed!

This is a great school. Kindergarten and primary school are wonderful. Children learn English and French and progress at incredible speed. The middle school is also superb, it fully respects the French curriculum of national education and goes much further with American subjects that enrich the curriculum and reinforce bilingualism. Beautifully well placed in Manhattan, I can only advise you for your children.

My daughter has been attending the middle school in Manhattan campus since our arrival in NY last year in December (she came from another French school abroad). Everyone (teachers and children) helped my daughter to set in the middle of the school year. I found greats teachers highly trained. The french program of National Education is fully respected and it is enriched with some american subjects (american history and maths) so that after few month my daughter started to speak also english. Im sure that after our 4 years in NYC she will be trilingual (french, english and italian). They also study another language (choice between Spanish and German) and they also organize really interesting activities after school (my daughter attends theatre club). We are really happy with the Lyceum Kennedy!

My niece goes here and she raves about all of the teachers. First time Ive heard of a child sound so enthusiastic about attending classes! They have the best educators that are truly passionate about investing the time and care to help their students grow and be enthusiastic about learning.

Great school. My kids love it. It is a truly bilingual school where kids have 2.5 days in a French class with a French teacher following the French program and 2.5 days in the English classroom with an English teacher following the nyc curriculum. The best of both worlds!

Our daughter has been at Lyceum Kennedy for one year and recently started her second year. Her French improved remarkably after her first semester due to the classroom schedule that alternates between an American teacher and NY State curriculum and a French teacher teaching a French curriculum. The classroom experience is enhanced with local field trips and several after-school offerings, including Kinderdance, piano and violin lessons, arts and crafts and Spanish classes (for an additional fee of course). While the school does have several dedicated teachers, most of the administration and all of the board of directors are lacking in their focus on improving the schools academics or retaining teachers and students long term. The school apparently does not help the foreign French teachers obtain work visas, which creates a continually revolving door of new teachers every 3 years or so. This leads to a lack of stability and continuity in the school, compounded by a continually changing student body largely made up of the children of expats and UN employees who stay in NY for only 2 or 3 years usually. That said, the student body is more ethnically mixed that at other NYC French schools, and the children are exposed to a broad array of countries and cultures as part of their curriculum - not only French and American. The Parents Association is quite active and working toward ensuring the elementary children have outdoor recess every day (an issue over which they recently butted heads with the administrators) as well as pursuing new fundraising efforts. Hopefully the administration is receptive to these efforts and a new Head of School is hired soon.

My daughter was nervous about entering a bilingual school and not knowing french. I can honestly say she loves school and she loves speaking French with her friends on french days.Thank you Lyceum Kennedy for all your support. I will definitely have some referrals for you.

My son attended Lyceum Kennedy for 2 years. Unfortunately we had to relocate from NY for work reasons. My son is now attending a Lycee on the West Coast. I cannot say strongly enough that the level of education he received at Lyceum Kennedy was outstanding. Not only academically...the level of care and respect shown to the students by the teachers was also truly amazing. The small size of the school allows this to happen. He still talks about the school and will always remember it.

This is a great school! Bilingual, French, with healthy and delicious meal options. It is a great international school not easy to find in midtown Manhattan.
