Parking lot itself is great. Good amount of spots and there are porta potties. The trail itself is intermediate to advance depending on how you want to go. Becareful and pay attention. There are a lot of unmarked trails that one can easily take and turn into and end up lost.
Just enough parking in the area to overflow into the surrounding neighborhood. What is really disappointing is the lack of public restrooms available for as popular of a trail as this is. On the plus side the free bus loop can bring you into town within the matter of minutes.

2022-06-20Amazing loop, easy enough for most skill levels. Go during dry season. There is an entire loop you can take or go out and back to the fire tower. On clear days you can see the catskills to the north and the NYC skyline to the south.

2021-04-19Was planning to hike breakneck but there weren’t any parking spots. Beacon is only 5 mins away and has lot more parking available. It’s a excellent hike that will give you a nice workout and amazing views of the Hudson Valley. You will be rewarded for all your hard work with a really cool fire tower at the summit. And I literally mean cool as it can get quite chilly and windy at the top. Also after the hike check out the Hudson Valley brewery 3 mins away for some amazing beers.

2020-10-19Came here around 11am on the weekend. It was definitely crowded but you can park on the street if the lot is full. Great hike to the fire tower, very steep going up but so worth it. The views are amazing. Recommend good hiking boots or sneakers with good grip, can be a little slippery coming down the mountain

2020-11-11Awesome hike with gorgeous views. The parking lot fills up easily but there are residential roads you can park along so its not that stressful. But still arrive early!! The beginning part is like 200 steps and then you start going up the mountain at a steep incline. Follow the red trail and then the white (to the right!! Easy to miss. If you see the yellow trail marker you went too far) to the fire tower. You can climb it!! Beautiful 360 degree view! And go back the same way you came from, would take maybe 3-4 hours total for the hike depending on how long your breaks are. Good down is slippery bc of the leaves. Be careful! I saw several families with children turn back around bc it was too hard for the kids to hike. Keep that in mind. This is not a hike youll want to carry your kids on either. If you fall they fall and its definitely a moderate hike.

2021-01-26About 3 miles round trip to get to where the casino once stood. Remnants of the old tram & building foundation along the trail. Hearts were pumping getting to top, but the reward was the views on top.

2021-01-16The trail is washed out some places. The hike up is brutal.. but the view is stunning. We made it up from the lot in 90 min. And got to enjoy a beautiful sunrise.

2020-07-27The first hike up was a BEAST!! But on your way to the light tower is pretty cool. Just follow the red markers to the white 😉
