The food was good but the waitstaff was not as good. For a higher end restaurant in the area I expected better service (not taking away my husbands empty plate before I have even finished mine, grabbing our credit card for payment and dashing off without saying thank you, I will be right back and not just simply dropping off our final receipt without stopping to thank us for dining there. Again the food was incredible but front of the house staff needs more training.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. We were accommodated with Rooftop Tables Outside, planned our Dinner to take place just as the Sun was Setting, if youre looking for a place to take that special someone, this is it. I had the Seabass, while she (not a fan of seafood) had the Ill Have The Chicken lol. Its such a wonderful thing to have shining beacons for which to spend your time in this City. (My Wife & I recommend a Bottle of Whispering Angel Champagne, its to die for.)
This was a very swanky place where you can dress up and enjoy a nice meal. The cocktails were wonderful, the food was delicious and the service from staff was welcoming. I got to propose to my fiance at this restaurant and the staff we accommodating with my set up. Its truly a good place for a romantic or upscale style of dining.
Such a unique experience and restaurant in Utica. Love their cocktails, fresh seafood & the patio! Perfect for dinner, drinks, brunch or pretty much anything. Always have great service! Highly recommend the loaded fries, butter cake & lobster ravioli. Truly cant stop thinking about how delicious and light the ravioli is!
Ambiance and location are a 5. Service was okay. I’ve never been overly impressed with their food. I really wanted to love this place. This was my third time trying. We ordered lobster Mac and cheese and ahi tuna steak. I’ve had lobster Mac at the state fair that tasted significantly better. Both seemed bland. To me food presentation seemed lazy and not thought out. The apps were great though fish tacos and calamari my favorite things we ordered. If you want a beautiful place to eat your dinner and impress a date this will work. If your a foodie and just want good eats I’d look elsewhere. Your paying higher prices for location and ambiance not better food in my opinion.
Ordered on DoorDash after a long day of work. I looked foreword to ordering all day.I ordered the lobster bisque, I called because I didn’t see croutons and feeling the bottom it was cold. The person on the phone told me to try it. As I put the spoon in the soup there was a black short hair. Absolutely, disgusting. I instantly threw it out. The person on the phone apologized and told me to go to DoorDash for refunds. The chips to my nachos were very deep in color, most likely due to using old frying oil. I tried one it was burnt. I decided to throw this away. The only saving grace was the cheese cake which was amazing. I am so disappointed because I was really looking forward to eating from this restaurant. This is a lesson, not every restaurants are good at to go orders. Also, just because it’s fine dining does not mean health standards and pride are taken in the order.
Went for Sunday brunch and it was great! Love the atmosphere here. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They were very clean as I went during COVID. The drinks were great and I had the lobster roll. It was awesome!!! My friend got a brunch item and he enjoyed it very much as well. Will definitely be coming back!
Superb food! Ocean Blue provides some of the best seafood in Utica! The calamari and crab cake are both to die for. The lobster roll is good. The Hit N Run drink is also very delicious. Blue Ocean has a very good Happy Hour which includes half priced specialty drinks and $10 appetizers from 4-7pm everyday. If you are dining outside that timeframe, the prices for meals are on the pricey side. The ambience is very adorable with very clean lines and geometric shapes. I would definitely go back.
Very disappointing Mother’s Day Brunch. I know it’s a busy day but no reason to wait for 1 hour and 20 minutes and still no food at all. Others around us were getting food but not us and our meals were simple ones. We finally paid for our drinks and left. We’d heard good things about this place but we won’t be going back for a second chance.
Ocean Blue is an Impressive contemporary restaurant. Located on the second floor, its bar is convenient yet separate from the dining area. The kitchen and a spotless, well iced raw bar are visible from the dining area. Dining options include booths, tables, banquet and alfresco. Jordan made excellent old fashioneds and provided attentive service. Our tasty oysters were properly shucked and well presented. The shaved sirloin steak sandwich hit the spot and a shared butter cake dessert was sumptuous. A very satisfying experience. We will return for alfresco dining.
Great ambiance and location. I saw the restaurant from my hotel and had to try it! I wasn’t disappointed. Their artisanal latte was great, and the lobster bisque was very well prepared. I also had the tabouleh and would recommend it for a light cold meal. I sat inside because it was cold, but they also have an outside patio that looked tempting. This place is a gem in Utica! Staff was friendly and helpful as well. Would highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area!
Great atmosphere, wait staff is attentive and the drinks and desserts are amazing! I cant speak for main entrees because we stopped in here with friends after having already eaten elsewhere. The overall vibe of the establishment is pretty awesome. The rooftop seating area is incredibly nice as well.
Recently dined at the Ocean Blue Restaurant in Utica. Nicest restaurant in the area. Beautiful interior in a historic building. A little too cold to drink and eat on the deck but we walked about, just beautiful! In warmer weather it must be the hottest ticket in town!$$$ prices, but food was worth it. Bar was packed but service for that and food were great. Highly recommended!
On a long train layover in Utica we were lucky to find Ocean Blue on a nice spring evening. We spent a few hours on the outdoor deck enjoying the views, the food and some drinks. Its a very casual atmosphere with good service and great menu options. Would recommend the ahi tuna burger if you get the chance.
KELLY AT OCEAN BLUE SAVED MY CHRISTMAS! I owe this wonderful, delicious restaurant, and more specifically this exceedingly kind and understanding staff member big time. For a nice meal, support a business that truly cares for others and dine at Ocean Blue. This crazy story is below:For Christmas I told my grandma that I would buy her a nice meal to be delivered on NYE. I live in California so could not bring it over myself. My grandma recently needed to move out of the house she spent the last 60 years in, and without family to make a meal, was deserving of an uplifting gift to bring in the New Year. The restaurant I was going to order from listed delivery on Google, but after calling , in fact did not deliver. This is when I began to panic needing to find an upscale alternative that delivered which is not easy to come by.I searched around and found Ocean Blue. After calling them and speaking with Kelly, I found them on Door Dash. When I went to make my order, I was unable to complete it because the restaurant was listed as closed. I called Kelly back to ask why this was and she told me she would figure this out for me. Already, she went above and beyond to do this. Apparently, they were listed as closed because the holidays are so busy, and they couldnt be taking door dash orders on this especially busy night (New Years Eve). BUT, because of my circumstance, she contacted her door dash rep to open the restaurant in the app for just a few minutes so I could place my order. Again, she went even further to help a stranger on the other end of the phone. The restaurant suddenly was shown to be open, and I quickly placed my order. After a few minutes and to my dismay, the driver cancelled... I called Kelly back and she said that it made no sense and she would have the door dash function turned on for me AGAIN... Mind you, this is during PEAK dinner rush hours. After some back and forth with the restaurants door dash rep, I was able to place the order a second time. This time I specifically said the food was being made, and I NEEDED the driver to deliver.... They cancelled a second time... At this point I felt like such a burden to this very busy staff member, and was ridden with stress thinking my grandmother would be eating a frozen meal for NYE.I called Kelly for maybe the 8th time, and she said Grandmas hungry and got a staff member to drive the food over in their personal car right then and there.Kelly, you have no idea how much this means to me. I can not thank you enough for making this happen for me. Truly, I wish you a happy new year. And to the driver, Ashley, thank YOU! I cant imagine the stress you all were under making this happen.
We had a great experience here. The wait staff was great. We showed up without a reservation on a Friday evening and they sat us immediately. We had heavy appetizers and drinks. The Calamari was cooked to perfection. Also the Kennebec Fries and Bang Bang Cauliflower were excellent. The cocktails were also tasty. Thank you for an enjoyable evening!
Been here many times and love the ambience and the food. Very expensive, but very good. The reason for four stars is that they serve the stingiest drinks Ive had in a long time. Usually, high end places with expensive food and drinks are generous with their pours. But this time, we sat at the bar and I was shocked by how little alcohol went into the cocktails. The bartender used the small side of the jigger, always spilled some of the booze and never once topped up a drink. These are $15+ drinks with less than a one ounce pour. The wine pours are also stingy. Big glasses, yes, but the wine barely covers the bottom (tapered) part of the glass. When youre paying $40 a dozen for oysters and $40+ for entrees, you expect better. I understand that bars are the most profitable part of any restaurant, but this gouging.Next time, well order a bottle of wine so that we know what were getting. I say next time because my husband loves raw oysters and theyre hard to come by around here.
A good friend took me there, a first visit for us both. A bustling place, very sophisticated. The staff was friendly and our waiter, Eric, welcoming. Jeff started with a dozen clams, which he said were delicious, while I ordered the Bang Bang Cauliflower, a real winner and quite a large portion, too. Jeff tried them and was won over. For the entree, he had the lobster ravioli, which he truly savored, while I thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips (the coating was perfect and deep-fried to perfection, the fish still moist and very flavorful). Wed have loved to have partaken of the desserts but were frankly quite full from a truly satisfying meal. Now, in the spirit of full disclosure, it IS a pricey place; however, if youre looking for something special, whether just with friends, with a special someone, or even just to treat yourself, I can heartily recommend Ocean Blue.
The food was great, that was not the issue. We were seated at our table which we made a reservation for quickly. We did not see a wait staff for 45 minutes, and this was after we had asked someone where our waiter was. An hour in to dinner we finally received our water and another 15 minutes later we got our drinks. A full hour and a half after our reservation someone took our food order. When you are paying $40+ a plate you expect some level of service. We were going to get up and leave but it was a bachelorette party, we wanted to have a great experience. Unfortunately this was not the case.
Impressive setting and delicious food. The manager (I think his name was Marlon) was so gracious and helpful. My husband and I had just been camping and stopped here on our way back home. Would love to come back here when we’re in Utica again- or maybe make the drive. It’s worth it!
Pricy mediocre food. Calamari appraiser was good. Entree salad was ok but it had wilted/disintegrating lettuce mixed in throughout. Everyone else at the table felt their food was just ok as well. The atmosphere was nice. Overall it wouldnt be my first choice if trying to go out for a nice dinner.
Having worked for a major corporation and a business owner, I have spent many evening of fine dining, no stranger. We really wanted this exclusive restaurant to impress. The elevator ride was a quaint way to arrive to this venue then appropriately greeted by a young hostess who seated us. Atmosphere was a large modern with simple design, white tile walls, beach ball size mood lighting and an array of black stage table lighting throughout the space. Outside rooftop dining was an option. At that time, we were the only diners in the restaurant. There were three servers present. Server came to our table about 8 minutes after seated for drink order, pushing the wine feature of the night which we did not order. Maybe there was an incentive. Over the course of 2 hours, three other couples came in as well as a party of about 12 but not ordering food at that time as they seem to be waiting for a guest of honor. Service was extremely slow, and they seemed in a rush when they did. We ordered the spicy shrimp salad, fish tacos for apps, sea bass and scallops with added filet for entree and no bake chocolate cake for dessert along with two glasses of wine($11/glass). The food was good but not over the top. The salad was in a bowl - presentation less than appetizing, was spicy, shrimp was cut into bite size pieces, over dressed but tasty. 2 fish tacos were tasty and satisfying. The sea bass ($49) was tiny, maybe 2 ounces, had a unique flavor but not impressive, halved grape tomatoes had little to no flavor. The side of corn was drenched, thick and creamy which tasted like doctored up canned corn. Scallops($41) were prepared well, sweet and tender. Saute greens were tasty. 4oz filet($18) was small but rare as requested and tasty. No bake chocolate cake was very good, almost fudge like. We were waited on by all three servers who seemed unorganized. After our appetizers, our original server asked if we had room for dessert not realizing we had not had our entrees. Not once were we asked how the food was. Could not figure that out as there was hardly any diners there. Total check was $191. Well over priced for this experience, its not the best Utica can do.
What an amazing restaurant to find while in Utica, NY. Ocean Blue has a steak and seafood style menu with your standard chicken and burger options as well. We have visited three times. This time we got the Fish Tacos for an appetizer, the shrimp cocktail, small caesar salad, and the 16 oz ribeye. While the prices are high, the food is well worth it. Ill be dreaming of those fish tacos for a while. They were an appetizer, but I wish I had ordered a double (triple!) order and eaten more as an entree!
The calamari was good, but watch out for those hot peppers hidden in the dish. The lobster bisque was great. The bang bang califlower was excellent. The Hawaiian steak was pretty good. The butter cake was devine. The waitress was great. Probably will go back . But no sauteed onions for the steak.
Went here for brunch w/ my dad after hearing about it from friends. We were hugely disappointed by not only the mediocre food but also the horrible service. You would think that such hefty prices would at least guarantee better service. They were a hot mess and had even forgotten the people next to us. Also, a McDonald’s fish sandwich was better than what they had to offer. Looks glitzy but that’s pretty much it.
This dinner was one for the record books. First the lobster bisque and calamari was amazing, then the Chilean sea bass and lobster mac and cheese was equally awesome. Cakebread chardonnay never disappoints if you really want to splurge on a bottle of wine. Then we shared butter cake with an espresso martini. Our experience here could not have been better. Our server was excellent as well. We will be back.
Nice view, overpriced, lackluster food, more staff than customers, worst calamari ever- rubbery, flavorless, mostly tentacles; burger small dispite stating half-pound, unenthusiastic waitress, and drenched by rain outdoors without canopy. Many better places to eat in Utica.
With gorgeous rooftop views, incredibly accommodating service, and food of the quality you would expect from a Michelin Star restaurant in a major city, I cant rate this highly enough. Its expensive, but youre getting an experience you really wont get anywhere else nearby. Will definitely make excuses to get back here.
Online reservation was convenient, we got sat quickly upon arrival, server was fast and attentive. This restaurant has a large outdoor dining area which was nice. We had the pink moon oysters and calamari for appetizers, both were great. The calamari had fried peppers mixed in (some bites were suprisingly spicy). Our entrees were the everything spiced ahi tuna and buttered lobster roll. The tuna tasted great but had a small portion. The side of greens were also very tasty. The lobster roll was good and had a large amount of lobster in it (very filling). The sides were a three potato salad (very good), and spicy cole slaw. The cole slaw tasted great and had an asian/soy taste (strange pairing with a lobster roll but still good). Overall positive experience and would go back.
First time eating there and I had the lobster tail and it decent but I tried the steak that my friend had and it was especially delicious. I love steaks and this is a top choice meat. I highly recommend it. Will def be coming back. It was not that busy for a weekday. Making reservations would be recommended.
Sunday brunch. As always the food was attractive and delicious. The service was spotty. My husbands lobster bisque came in a reasonable amount of time. It was almost an hour until we got our food, and another very long wait for me to get my dessert. We asked for the dessert and check three times each.He never got a coffee refill until we stopped someone and asked. This was after he had already finished his eggs benedict with salmon. One employee said they were short staffed. A variety of staff waited on us, including the hostess. We have both received our two Covid-19 shots and this was a celebration of my first meal out in a year. A far cry from the attentive service we received on our previous visit. Instead of relaxed, I felt frustrated.
Staff has always been very friendly, whether I was dining there or just picking up a uber eats order. Classier place, everyone dresses up to come here, which is fitting for the atmosphere. Good place to start the night out for a lot of people. Very good food. Prices are obviously going to be a little high, but thats just the type of establishment it is, and you get equal quality for the money you spend. Great outdoor patio with a great view as well. Good place to go just for drinks also, or appetizers and drinks at the bar.
Our waiter was awesome and the staff were very accommodating. We brought our 11 month old son and they were kind and considerate.Even brought a phone stand so he could stay occupied with cartoons. The atmosphere is just astounding and the food is top notch. Loved everything about the place and overall its one of the best dining experiences you could ask for. Highly recommended to friends and family.
The welcome and hospitality I received at Ocean Blue will be just one of the reasons I will return! My Guests and I were greeted by Ashlee who showed us excellent customer service! The Crispy Chicken Sandwich accompanied with Truffle Fries were delicious. Also, the Fish Taco’s had flavors enjoyed with each bite. I look forward to returning to Ocean Blue soon.
Very nice ambiance. Beautiful decor. Great menu. Portions were very small for the price. Staff was friendly. The food was good and the view was really cool from the rooftop. It was hard to find where the entrance was at first, then we werent certain on where we were going. But we found our way. It would be nice if they had a few lower priced entrees on the menu, and if the portions were bigger. The food presentation was nice. They surprised me with a delicious slice of cake for my birthday, that brought them up to 5 stars for me!
Our party was four and we came for brunch. We started on the patio with appetizers and endless Mimosas. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive. The appetizers were scrumptious; the bang bang cauliflower and the calamari was gently breaded and fried to perfection! It became hotter through the meal so we asked to be moved inside. This was done swiftly and seamlessly. Our entrees came and I must say this has been some of the best food Ive had anywhere in a very long time! Two of us ordered lobster rolls - hot with butter OMG delish! The other two in our party ordered crab linguini with prawns. The prawns sat up on the linguini and were humongous! All the food was wonderfully cooked with beautiful presentation! Kudos to the chef and his kitchen staff! Our waitress was awesome as well. I must say this was the BEST dining experience Ive had in a very, very long time! Highly recommended!
My review...I had been looking forward to trying Ocean Blue for quite a long time as Id heard wonderful things. So with fathers day approaching and restaurants finally opening back up, I made reservations through their website. This would be both my first time at Ocean Blue and my first time out since things opened back up. I really wanted to go on fathers day with my daughter but they were completely booked so I settled for what they had available today 6/20/20 which was at 2:30pm. I figured, late lunch or early dinner. My 10 year old daughter and I arrived on and were seated right away since it was nearly empty. Our waiter Jeremy came to the table with skew water and took our drink order of 2 diet Cokes as we were looking over the menu. While he was getting our drinks, I realize, this is a brunch menu, at nearly 3pm. There was almost nothing on the menu other than breakfast items and some appetizers. I was so looking forward to the phenomenal dinners Id heard so much about. When Jeremy returned with our drinks I told him I didnt realize they were only serving lunch. He just nodded yes and left without any explanation or alternative. He returned a few minutes later and said Did you wanna talk about food?. I ordered Some lobster bisque for my daughter, some calamari and a dozen steamed clams. I also ordered the only burger that was on the menu for my daughter without the fried egg and a steak and cheese sandwich for myself. My daughter very much enjoyed the soup and she said the burger was good and also really liked the cole slaw. I also enjoyed the potato salad and the cole slaw with my sandwich, however the steak was very salty and slightly overcooked. The appetizers were a different story. The calamari was quite soggy for most of it but the bits that werent soggy were cooked well and tasted very good. The steamed clams were typical clams for the most part but there were several shells that were badly broken and required picking shells out of the clams. Jeremy came to the table twice to offer my daughter another diet coke and the second time to ask how things were. My daughter knew I was disappointed and upset and asked me to please not say anything and make a scene in front of her so I didnt. We finished what we could and another gentleman brought us some take out containers and the check. I understand that things lately have not exactly been normal and theres likely going to be some time to get back into the swing of things. Id heard that the food and atmosphere was second to none at Ocean Blue and that the staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was indeed very nice, the food could definitely have been better, but our server today just fell short of the hype. I know the wait staff greatly depend on tips to make a living. These are strange time we are living in right now. Maybe he was just having a bad day, was tired or just not back into the swing of things yet. My bill came to $85.91. I didnt short change our server and tipped $18.00 for a total of $103.91 on my card and we left at 3:45pm. I will try going again sometime once things get more back to normal because I want what most people tell me about Ocean Blue and what I see here in the pictures on this page. I did very much enjoy spending a meal with my little girl for fathers day a day early. Until next time.
Food was excellent and service started out the same way. However, once containers were brought to the table and dessert was ordered, it took 20 minutes for it to be brought to the table. After a second bottle of water ( for 4 people) another was not offered. WaItress seemed to return to inquire how everything was going only seconds after the appetizers or meal was delivered. Capacity is supposed to be limited, yet after 7 (our reservations were for 5:30) it was noisy and full. The table next to us with 8 people we could have touched by stretching out our arm. I am a bit disappointed.
The best cocktails with oysters we have ever had. Well definitely go back to the bar area. The food was disappointingly below average. The sauteed garlic spinach will make you gag. It tasted like salty grey water. DO NOT order this.Steak were good a and cooked to order. The scallops were ok. The service was unremarkable. Obviously the spinach left a very unpleasant impression.
Very Enjoyable Location. You definitely get what you pay for, were not big spenders but when we want a great meal we know where to go. Having a shellfish allergy I was a little apprehensive to go at first but they did everything to accommodate me and made sure to not have any cross contamination for our meals, that is what brings us back again & again !!! Quality ingredients, Great Service in a beautiful atmosphere !!
My name is Kelvin I highly recommend this restaurant I am from Boston Massachusetts stop by at Utica NY at “Ocean Blue” most likely everything that you can ask . food was great service was awesome very clean nice people just wanted to say thank you to the team at Ocean Blue
My mom & I had a wonderful dining experience! We were greeted with smiles and a friendly staff! We sat outside on a beautiful evening with a gorgeous view! Our waitress, Ashly, was very professional & courteous! Our food was exceptional! And their butter cake was to die for!!! Excellent!!! I would highly recommend this restaurant!!! We will definitely be back!
Despite its reputation, I had a terrible experience. The waiter poured wine directly on the table next to my glass and left the mess behind. I asked about a menu item and when he went to the kitchen for an answer, he forgot about me entirely. The cheese plate was dry around the edges, as if it was stored sliced in an open container. For a high quality restaurant, I expect better. I spent good money for bad service. Its been a long time since I went. It was memorable in all of the wrong ways.
Ocean Blue is so beautiful and the food is excellent !!!! However I just experienced the worst service I ever had in the 50 years I been on earth . Yet in the parking lot the hostess that seated us left waving and smiling to us. Ocean Blue get it together. We had a male server who bought us drinks because of his lack of service. I wanted desert and asked the woman who took our plates to give us a dessert menu. Our server never came back so I asked another server for our bill. Strangest night ever.
Absolutely fantastic! Great oyster bar atmosphere. Our server was prompt and gracious. The littleneck streamers were perfectly cooked, plump and not rubbery, flavor was great. Crab cake was amazing, my aunt who was seated next to me and grew up on the Chesapeake Bay agreed. The crab was the star. Greens on the side a little more wilted than I thought they could have been, but maybe that was on purpose? My entree was the daily catch, Striped Sea Bass. Delicious!
Me and my family went there for mybirthday. Our waitress Kayla C. was so rude the entire time barely checking on our table. When she came back to the table with my cake she complained that we came in way too late and asked me why we bothered. We made a reservation online for 3 o’clock and we even got there a few minutes early. She constantly gave us attitude the our entire time there.
This restaurant is a shining light in the darkness. When I was invited there, I had low expectations ... seafood inland, Upstate New York? The food and drinks were all perfect. I enjoyed every bite and sip! One comment for yall southern-based oyster lovers, they had Crystal Hot Sauce, Horseradish mixed in Ketchup, and no crackers. The sauces were good, but I really like just raw horseradish, crackers, and hot sauce like any good Louisiana Southerner would ... still yummy though.
Great atmosphere, decor, and service. However, Ive gone several times and the food hasnt quite lived up to the expectation set by price. Outside of happy hour the drinks are double if not triple the cost at other establishments, and there is an upcharge to sub carrots for spinach. Ive paid upwards of $100 more than once to leave unimpressed with the food.
Extremely disappointed. I used to come frequently when they first opened - service was top of the line and the food was amazing. Went last night and a lot has changed. Ordered the burger and it left a lot to be desired.I’d also like to add they currently have an American Flag displayed incorrectly and when I inquired why I was told management has known and won’t change it...needless to say the disrespect to our Nation’s Flag doesn’t fly with me so I personally will take my business else where.
I am still going to five stars but they messed up my good special game. No Sangria Saturday half off apps and sandwiches and their dinner menu Special on Sundays (boo). The service is very consistently great. It is a nice great treat yourself kinda place. The roof is the place to really feel cosmopolitan in a small city. Worth the experience.
Shane, our server, helped make my birthday one to.remember! He was pleasant, funny, and just enjoyable! The food was absolutely superb. Try the lobster bisque. Just do it! You will not regret it. Coffee is by local Utica Roasters which is great to support local businesses! Butter cake was fabulous, my own little birthday cake Shane brought out was delightful!
Seemed rushed. Brought salad when we were still eating our appetizers. No bread and have to pay for salad separately. Also charge 5 times the amount for the same bottle of wine I can buy at the liquor store. I know there is a markup but thats ridiculous. Food is good but not great for the high prices and small portions.
Not that its a big deal but forgot birthday desert, biggest issue was zero refill or stop by table to ask if we needed anything... Took like 20 minutes to pay the bill and with 2 kids thats not good.. Food was about what youd expect not bad not the best ever. Over all for 260$ for 4 people I expected more. One bad apple can ruin the bunch. Wont go back not because of the business itself but the service for the money... Again not to disparage but just one persons opinion/experience...
This is a lovely restaurant. Offering a good selection of wine. Excellent wait staff and attentive service. Very nicely designed interrior with ambiant lighting and comfortable seating. Nice menu with well prepared and presentable dishes. I recommend the oyesters and fish tacos as as appetizers. The fish tacos have a perfect comibnation of texture and taste (amazing sauce👌). I would gladly dine here again.
Overall we love the cheese cake and wine.Service : Unacceptable. Very poor service! We dont mind the price, but if we are going to pay for our dinner.. obviously we want a professional service not gossiping in the back of kitchen and not really care about the customer satisfaction. We still give her a good tip because we feel what our employees needs. We are a restaurant owner too, wow I mean.. service really made us go crazy!
This restaurant is a must go to!!! We drove from Syracuse to have brunch there on Saturday. It was everything we hoped it would be an more, more, more!!! Our server was Ariana and she was awesome. So helpful, happy and great recommendations. I had a half dozen oysters and they were so fresh and just delicious. My friend had the rosemary focacica bread appetizer with fresh butter and 3 kinds of olives and it was pure heaven. The bartender Brandon made the best coconut mojitos I have ever had. Our entrees were amazing. Everything is so fresh and cooked to order. Great farm to table concept (Love that). Then to say it couldnt get any better would have been a lie. We decided to share a piece of butter cake for dessert and WOW, it was pure heaven on a plate!!!! It was beyond delicious, a party in the mouth!!!!! Make reservations and go ASAP, you will not be disappointed. Thank you to all the amazing staff front and back who made this day and visit PERFECT in everyway. We will DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!
Way overpriced for what it was. $14 Drink was so sweet I couldnt taste anything other than syrup. Special salad was quite good, decent selection of oysters but the waiter was oddly rude and harassed me for my selection. My main (almost $40) was the scallop risotto was terribly overseasoned and too heavy on cream. The two scallops were overcooked and rubbery.Would not recommend.
Excellent setting, even when the weather precludes enjoying the roof deck. Seafood is fresh and well prepared, especially the oysters. Make it a point to visit for Sunday brunch as every aspect is superb. the full bar features a decent beer selection and is staffed by a group of mostly talented bartenders that can make delicious cocktails from a changing menu. The frequent oyster specials and open deck make this a must visit for Utica.
Delightful, delicious, awesome service, love this aesthetic here.So when you enter the building, youll take the elevator to the top floor. The layout is kind of open concept, with a bar and kitchen thats in full view of diners. Lighting when I was here (came in at 6pm) was low and pleasing, totally awesome vibe. Our waiter was very attentive and patient, going over the menu without being pitchy and overselling. Our group split the lobster fries, which were delicious and very different from any other loaded fries Id had. I had the tuna burger, which was massive. Two in our group had the fish tacos. One had the fish fry and lobster bisque. A few of us had the raw oysters. Everyone said their food was excellent and very fresh.I will absolutely be back again. Utica has a gem!
$20.17 for 2017! A 3 course meal for lunch at a very reasonable price! A few entrees to choose from, soup or salad, and dessert. The fish and chips was HUGE! I would have preferred my salmon a little more rare, but overall a great glaze for flavor. Beautiful ambiance, outdoor dining lit up by Edison bulbs, large paper globes, sparkling, crisp, white tiles, and black aesthetics. I would describe the atmosphere and servers as hipster. The restaurant, bathrooms, and outside were so clean, servers were constantly wiping down tables, chairs, and sweeping the floor. So much in fact that it interfered with our dining, sweeping the floor shouldnt be done around people with a fresh course of food on the table. On the plus side, the food was flawless, raw oysters, grilled oysters, and the ceviche were very fresh, tasty, and mouth watering. Our server Steve was friendly and full of recommendations. I would definitely return!
Cant say it enough....the Sea Bass and cocktails, plus the atmosphere....amazing. We went on the 4th of July and sat outside. We had views of 8 different sets of fireworks. The night was perfect and for mid July, no mosquitoes were around. We went before and did not have a quality time, but decided to give it another shot. Im glad we did because we will be going back again.
Real disappointment. calamari was marred by extra hot spices mixed in which delivered a nasty surprise. fish and chips the worst I have had in any restaurant: fish fresh enough but encapsulated in what would pass for a formerly frozen batter which ballooned, fries were way too salty. my dates dinner looked like microwaved frozen meal doused in olive oil and drinks were overpriced, underwhelming. service was OK and ambience was great. again, a real disappointment, wont return and wont recommend.
This was our second visit to Ocean Blue. I must admit, this meal was far superior to the first back in September 2015. They have ironed out some of the kinks, hired some new management (I heard through the grapevine) and offer some truly unique and stellar options! We had the raw plate for 2 and every bite of it was exceptional. We ordered fried calamari since it wasnt that good the last time we had it but this time, excellent! The chicken sandwich was perfect with an Asian fusion twist. Lobster roll featured perfectly cooked lobster, light and crunchy bread with tasty sides. It was an expensive lunch for our area, but we all felt the quality of the food and the atmosphere made it worthwhile.
The loudness of the music made it feel like a dance party and not a dinner. What I observed while sitting at our table was the age group of the patrons around us and clearly the owner prefers the music to be loud even after we asked twice if the music could be turned down a little bit. Too bad because the potential to cater to all is ignored. However Shane, our waiter was awesome
This isnt a casual place. Very high end. Besides prices and the scowls you get from the from the uppity high class customers when you walk in with what they think is trashy clothing, the place is great. Great service and nice employees. Super professional cooks. My ladys lobster mac and cheese was made again for free because it was dryer than usual. Great for dates. I just dont like the crowd it draws.
Food: We had the chicken with jumbo shrimp and the baked stuffed haddock.Uninspired and bland. Chicken was burned. The greens were so bitter and oily it ruined the flavor for anything else we ate.Service: Rude and unattentive. For fine dining it was very sub par, most of the staff was gossiping in the kitchen and unprofessional. No one asked if we needed water refills. Long periods of time went without being checked on in an empty dining room.We mentioned we were missing part of our order. No apology and attitude. We travelled from Denver for a wedding. Unacceptable experience in our opinion.
After reading several reviews, we decided to give it a try for a special occasion. Nice atmosphere and good crowd for a late Saturday afternoon. The server was very nice and attentive. To start, we ordered oysters and clams from the raw bar and they were fresh and clean tasting. We had calamari as an appetizer and the batter coating was nice and light, it also came with battered jalapeños in the mix which was a nice surprise. For entrees we ordered the filet mignon which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The sides of mashed potatoes however were whipped a little too thin, but tasted good and the wilted spinach was not wilted enough. The second entree was a very nice piece of salmon, served with white rice and wilted spinach. The salmon was cooked to a perfect medium and the glaze was very good. Nearly stuffed, we just had to order dessert for good measure. So we tried a piece of the chocolate / espresso cake and a piece of the ricotta cheese cake. Both are must haves. This restaurant is definitely worth more visits.
A new menu... still great food. The wine pours were inconsistent: at out table they were scant at other tables they were noticeably generous. The one fly in the ointment to me is the aggressively loud techno music...maybe fine for younger diners but for those of us slightly out of the schoolroom, it is a sour note to an other wise lovely evening.
RESERVATION REQUIRED. Packed on weekends. The burger sliders are greasy and tasteless. The lobster bisque is my favorite! The champagne used for mimosas gave me a headache. The ONLY place in Utica with a great rooftop! The frose is amazing!! The sangria is good too. :)
Food was great, a bit pricey but the quality made it worth it in my opinion. This restaurant also has a full bar and outdoor seating in a high balcony patio with a great view of the North end of downtown Utica. One of the most upscale establishments in the city of Utica, definitely a great destination for a classy night out.
Fantastic setting and interior design ... Food was mostly very good. The last missing star relates to the high prices -- this is quite the expensive place -- not all the food items ordered measured up to the prices, IMHO. Still, I think this is a place everyone in the Utica NY area should experience.
I cant believe this place exists in Utica, NY. Great cocktails. Butter Bread dessert was plentiful and amazing. A bit expensive for Utica IMO but the rooftop seating is fanastic. Bartenders were friendly and attentive. Decor is unique and hip. I will definitely be back! My only complaint was that they closed at 11:30 p.m. and we could have stayed there and kept drinking.
Checked it out not sure what to think after all the mixed reviews. Will not be my top restaurant but nice 5 star. Great experience. Food is fancy and high quality but there are a handful of other restaurants that I find the food a little more enjoyable even if they are more simple.
This place is great if you want to meet up with some friends and have some awesome drinks. Thier desserts are fabulous too!I enjoyed the atmosphere of the bar more than at the table. Just sitting across from my partner I felt so far away. Their drinks are delicoius, creative, and reasonably priced. I was very underwhelmed by the food, and felt the price was just not worth it. Rhode island calimari didnt have enough flavor. I had their sea bass; the potionof the dish was bigger than I expected. It had beautiful grill marks but was too fishy, the risotto was watery, however the asparagus was cooked perfect. We shared a creme brulee for dessert and it deffinetly hit the spot.Over all it wasnt bad, it wasnt good, it was just okay, and $120 bill for okay food isnt for me. If youre looking for great seafood in the Utica area I recommend the Michael Ts Friday specials or the Chowder House.
Service is the worst! you pay a lot of money to have a great time. And the atmosphere is great the employees absolutely suck strait worst in Utica the bar tenders ignore you for no reason ( there not busy) and the host could care less about your experience. Might as well stay home or pick any other restaurant in Utica at least any where els will respect your business.
It is always a pleasant experience coming here. Food is delicious, prices are reasonable. Staff is polite and professional. I love the overall look of the place. Highly recommend to everyone, especially in the summer to dime on the balcony. Right in downtown, close to everything, plenty of parking... Check it out, and thank me later. 👍👍
If your 30 and younger and looking to hook up for the night thats the place to go to. If you dont mind paying $100+for a dinner and you like bopping your head to hip hop like you should be in a club ,then this is the place. If you like spending money on over priced food and small portions ,then this is the place. If you want a nice quiet dinner with elegant music and dont mind paying top dollar for great food and service then this is not the place.if hip hop music played liked you belong in a club then this is not the place. I dont carefor Subway tile, in a dining room that charges me $37.00 dollars for a filet mignon and $18 .00 for a lobster tail that price chopper sells for $4.99,had about 2oz of meat after it was cooked. No wouldnt go there even if it was free, oh and this meal was for free.
Welcoming as soon as we walked in. There was this sweet n cheery young woman.. The staff was just extremely friendly. Chef on point.. Food ~ ExcellencyWe started off with Oysters and couple craft brews.I ordered the #1 Ahi Tuna Burger which consists of abrioche roll, soy, ginger, slaw, red pepper aioli, friesMy friend ordered ~ Pineapple Soy Glazed Salmon withjasmine rice, wilted spinachNo complaints except I wish it wasnt rainy. I was hoping to sit on the patio. Goregous rooftop restaurant.
The Chicken Cobb salad came with chicken skin-on, which was not what I expected, but easy to pull off of the chicken since the chicken skin was a little rubbery. I have never had a Cobb Salad with skin-on, ever. I would never think to ask the server to have my order made with skinless chicken, since I am ordering a salad afterall. So everyone, be aware.Other than that, the meal was good.
Food was overpriced and nothing special, but the presentation was beautiful. Be careful if you bring in a birthday cake-they charge you a cutting fee for each piece which ended up adding 26 dollars to our bill. The clincher is that they never told us they were going to do that.
For a high end restaurant I wouldnt recommend. Prices dont bug me until I dont get the service that should come along with the food.Restaurants are a service business. 95% of what I pay should be for service not food. Food is decent but the service is very mediocre for these prices.Do yourself a favor and go to Tailor and the Cook for great food and dining experience. Service there is impeccable!
Ocean blue has quickly won the hearts of the people of Utica. They’ve elevated the standard of design and hospitality in Utica and we are greatful for it. The menu is versatile giving those on a tight budget a great meal likewise if you are willing to spend a little extra cash you’ll be treating your self to a incredible carefully crafted meal. We often get a server named Brad who’s remarkably hospitable and makes for a great experience!

2022-02-18Went there on a whim with a friend.. atmosphere was earthy and the waiters pleasant.. but we met another couple there whom had already seated.. turns out you have to make reservations which is pretty cool. Food was great and although I didnt know how or was familiar with how or what to eat, my choice was really great... over all I had a great time.. Ocean Blue was right under my nose all this time.. Its a sure bet.. as expensive as it is Ill go there again without a second thought..

2022-06-07My sister picked this restaurant for her birthday dinner. I loved the whole atmosphere and the wonderful view of the city from the balcony. We did have a bit of a wait for our food, but that is too be excepted with the type of gourmet meal you are receiving. The drinks we got while waiting were amazing. That being said, I would definitely choose this place for special occasion outings that you want to be memorable, and not a casual night out.

2022-06-07This was an excellent dining experience. The menu selection is small, but it works as each dish is outstanding. Whether its steamed clams, raw oysters, steak, or shrimp scampi (with homemade pasta), every choice is a winner. It is expensive, but not any more than you would expect for fine dining. I would highly recommend Ocean Blue Restaurant for any special occasion.

2022-02-19My boyfriend took me out for Valentines day. Our reservation was for 5:15. We didnt get our meal until 7. The wait was so long that our waitress ordered us bread in the meantime. The restaurant wasnt packed to where we should have waited that long for our food. We were seated by the window with the tables so close together that we could have all shared our food. No privacy and we all felt like sardines. When we received our food it was barely warm. Everything tasted good but definitely not hot. For the price we werent impressed, actually quite discouraged considering we had high hopes.
