The castle and surroundings were beautiful. Food was delicious and they had a nice variety for brunch. It was very nice to have the owner of the property come by our table and thank us for coming to his home. First class. I hope I have another opportunity to attend an event or just brunch there.
The masiin was gorgeous, but the food was lacking-the wait staff appeared to be overwhelmed. The food prices was very very expensive. The lamb chops were very tough and inedible. The portions were very small compared to the prices. It was a nice experience but it’s a one time dinner, I don’t think I will go back for dinner
This place is really beautiful specially summer time, food is over price and plates are xtra small but that is ok cause you get to enjoy appetizers and desserts but I never been to a slower service before, we been there twice and the second it was almost 5 hours to get out from of 4, also don’t like the owner that seats with you to talk. I do like it when they go around and ask you if everything is ok but to stay with you and talk about life is different. I love the atmosphere
This is a very unique venue to dine at. It’s the former estate of financier and art lover Otto Herman Kahn (OHK) built during the Roaring 20’s. it was also the wedding location for singer Kevin Jonas’ and also Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher‘s wedding. It was my second time lunching here, this time we were a party of four. I was informed by our server that they change the menu in the spring and fall. This menu honestly was a let down compared to the fall menu. Three in our party ordered the Lobster BLT Salad Plate (see photo) which was tasty but nothing special at $29. Our other diner ordered the Roasted Beet & Shrimp Salad at $28 which she enjoyed. The portions are skimpy for the price and I’m not a big eater! I honestly believe that you are paying more for the “experience“ then the dining. And let me tell you dining in a castle is quite an experience. The rooms are exquisitely decorated and there is a history to each and every one. You’re able to roam around after lunch and be sure to check out the formal gardens...you’ll feel you’re in the South of France. Outdoor dining is also available now. When you arrive at 0HK, someone will appear from the guard house on a walkie-talkie to let the valet parking know you have arrived. You proceed to the valet where a friendly guy takes your car and has it ready to go for you before you even get to the parking lot. Is somebody watching?Save this place for a special occasion where you don’t mind spending a few extra dollars. I would return but I won’t be rushing back.
Delicious menu and beautiful ambiance. We couldn’t see the garden. They didn’t allow us to see garden. Their manager didn’t help at all. We were waited more than an hour to have our food. Very slow service. Waiters/waitress are not listening at all. I have allergy to pork and they brought with pork! They have very good location and this location need a professional team. They must change their management for sure.
This time around, we were very disappointed on the food quality here. Nothing tasted right. Friend calamari were half cooked, the Mediterranean appetizer dish looked very cheap on the plate and flat in taste like using can olives. Above all the main course - the NY skirt steak was served super late on the table and it simply didn’t taste right. NO FLAVOR at all. I highly doubt it they season the meat here at all.Staff friendly.
It’s a lovely setting but just needs a little more polish to be perfect. Better music, more Christmas decorations, tissues in the bathroom, etc. The short ribs were ok. The shrimp app was the same tempura shrimp that they sell in Costco. The review across our entire group was “it’s ok.” That being said, the service was good and we’d return.
We came here on a whim on 7/8 at noon for my birthday lunch and enjoyed the food, drinks and view of the gardens. The dessert was disappointing, and had a fridge taste to it, I also cannot remember the last time if ever that, I had a brownie dessert that wasn’t warmed? Prices are very reasonable for dining in a castle. What we didn’t appreciate was the door attendant on the way in to the castle. We had attempted to make reservations but it said the first one was at 4:30pm, we found that hard to believe being it was a Thursday so made the drive anyway. The attendant rudely turned us away stating I needed a reservation for lunch or the hotel. After ten minutes of refreshing the page I finally was able to make a noon reservation for lunch. She insisted on telling us that even if I had reservations for lunch, we wouldn’t be allowed on the gardens (even though I never asked or implied we wanted to go to the gardens) this comment rubbed me the wrong way so I tried making one for the hotel but they were showing sold out. We went back with a picture of the reservation for lunch and she made us return to outside the gate again until it was 5 minutes before our time. What’s interesting is we saw many cars entering and figured they were going to the hotel but when we got to the restaurant, there were already 5 cars there and the earliest reservation was for noon? Profiling?Well anyway guess what? After lunch we were indeed able to just go out the restaurant door and onto the mostly empty garden but what a way to ensure we don’t return or recommend with her terrible attitude.
Party of 4 was the 2nd to be seated for dinner. They brought food out for a different table and brought it to our table. Food took 1 hour and 15 minutes for an orders to finally come out. When it came out, the fish, duck, and chicken were overcooked. That coupled with the lack of customer service with no explanation on wait time was horrendous. The other 10 tables were served before us.Ive been to many renowned restaurants and this was the worst dining experience ever. The price was not worth the lack of service. Do not recommend.
This place is AMAZING!!!! The atmosphere, the staff, the house... EVERYTHING!!For appetizers we had the shrimp tempura which was a rolled out shrimp battered and fried with a great sauce. For dinner we ate the chicken and mushrooms and the seafood pasta. (Which was incredibly fresh)To round it out we had the cheesecake. It turns out they make all of their desserts on property by their in-house pastry chef. What made the experience even better was that the owner, Gary, came by to welcome us and thank us for coming. We will be here for two days to explore this amazing castle.
Stunning setting. Grand views. The shrimp tempura was the best Ive ever had. The sauces on it were a perfect blend of sweet, tangy and spicy. The shrimp burrito was similarly amazing and my wifes French dip was also excellent. The French fries are hand cut and perfect. The garden salad was also excellent with many assorted vegetables and an excellent balsamic vinegrette. Even the bread was served fresh baked with an amazing butter sauce. Friendly servers and many choices of setting areas both indoors and alfresco. Highly recommended.
Not impressed. We came here for an anniversary dinner,3:49pm arrived, we entered through the main doors but was told we have to go around or through the coat room. We went through an extremely unorganized coat room, into a hallway where we had to find our way to the elevator because no one was really around to help.4pm seated4:02 given menus4:10 finally came to ask if we wanted water and drinks4:20 brought the water and bread4:27 brought the drinks4:45 took our orders, at this point I’m like just get dessert4:50 finally brought crayons and coloring books for our kids5pm owner says hello for a minute, went on to converse with regulars and other people and desserts come. Which wasn’t all that great for the price. Also the dress code says one thing online but another when you arrived when even the staff were dressed like we were at a casual place like Applebee’s 🥴Others got served before us and given friendlier service. It should not have taken about an hour for dessert and drinks…within the first 15 minutes of poor service my appetite was gone and by 45mins I told my husband forget about dinner here just get the kids desserts and we are out. Grounds are beautiful though. However I can see why the restaurant wasn’t “filled” as we were told when we tried to make our reservations to a different time.
Honestly, the food was subpar. Very bland and tiny portions. I ordered the seafood penne and there was only a single tiny piece of lobster in it, 3 shrimp and the smallest scallops I’ve ever seen. Pasta was over cooked, flavorless, and sauce extremely acidic. The waiter also forgot our drinks and never brought us bread. Definitely didn’t feel like we were being catered to. It’s pretty, sure, but with only one bathroom in the dining area (for men and women ), and for the cost per plate, really didn’t feel like we were anywhere special. I’ve had better food and dining experiences by far. Not sure what people are so wow’d by.
Went for lunch with the family. Thought it would be beautiful. Walked the dark hallway and up the stairs to the Andy Warhol room. Felt like we were forgotten about in this small room. The food was meh. We all ordered different things from the filet mignon to the fish. No of us left impressed. And as for the atmosphere, was hoping for a grand experience and it fell completely short.
Took my wife & grand daughter for my wifes birthday, great dinner. The duck was amazing,we will go back again.it was great how the owner is so attractive to all the that are dining, having small but interesting conversation.the services was great & frienbly.we had a server that went by the name of Anthony.he even try to sing happy birthday to my wife.my wife & I enjoy the willingness of this young man. Thank you Anthony.they make you feel like royalty.beautiful experience.from the vale parking your auto to the server and the owner.your were great.
This is the second time I have been here in the last month. The service was excellent and the restaurant and grounds are gorgeous. I love the restaurant and will definitely go again but I will ask for my French fries and steak without any salt. The filet mignon and New York strip steak was good but very salty. Seafood was also too salty. The french fries are actually decorated with salt. Its pretty but too salty and not healthy. I never had filet mignon that came with salt already on the steak. If I want salt on my food they could put a salt shaker on the table. I dont use any salt on my food but my wife and in-laws who are Filipino thought the food was too salty and Filipinos use salt on everything.
Called @1:06pm on 8/23 to make a reservation for 2:15-2:30 and was told that they were booked up “ALL DAY.” I decided to go on their website to make a future reservation and saw that they had availability for 8/23 EVERY HALF HOUR . So, I made a reservation for 2:30 just to see if maybe their site isn’t up to date but sure enough they were calling me at 2:45 wondering where I was.. I guess they weren’t “fully booked” after all. Oh well, they lost out on a customer and I ended up going to Refuge and the food was incredible!! It’s about 15 minutes away from OHK, highly recommend taking that trip :)
What a great hospitality!!! We were late for lunch more than one hour due to traffic. Knowing that all restaurants follow the pandemic instructions and have all kinds of restrictions, we appreciate even more that the restaurant kept our reservation and we felt absolutely welcome. Such a wonderful experience!
So have debated ( 1 month) about posting review of anniversary diner.Long story ( sorry) but maybe worth the read.Made reservation weeks in advance of our 15th wedding anniversary for outdoor dining on the patio close to sunset at Oheka Castle on August 7th.Was told on phone about country club /business casual dress code when they called to confirm reservation. We show up and front gate is closed. Young man ( refrain from using kid) in car tells us to use other entrance. Cant tell us where other entrance is however.Other entrance was service entrance. Lot is busy with cars, busses, trucks, people. We are told by another young person rudely we can not park there. Drop wife off in front of service lot ( nice shoes walk from car was long) and park car illegally in dirt hill shoulder of access road and start walk to wife. She was approached by different person about not standing in front of lot. We make our way to side/rear entrance of castle and walk through basement ( locker rooms, utility rooms, storage/trash rooms, etc by a escort. Arrive at hostess station where we are told not to look at sunset, not to take pictures, not to walk property, not to walk to side of courtyard as there is a video shoot happening at the castle that night. Due to it being our anniversary, only doing outdoor dining, prime time dining hour on weekend we were limited in choices so we decided to stay. Our table/server (Anthony)/appitizers/beverages were awesome and enjoyed. Once entrees came so did the rain. I speak to hostess No umbrella no room for us indoors so we abandon table with entrees and drinks and wait and wait for someone ( asked waiter, busboy and then a manger) to wrap our food. Was charged full amount less ( 5% discount) and with tip was over 200 dollars for the meal.Side complaintsShoot took over all outdoor access huge lights/screens and activity/noises.Other tables had guests in cargo shorts and baseball caps ( turns out they were warned about parking/shoot happening. No valet parking walking in unpaved mud and dirt in nice shoes in the rain was not necessary.Moving of furniture, setting up and use of flood and spotlights, wooden boards by numerous video shoot production staff talking loudly walking patio area during meal thus at times blinding us.Video shoot was primary/main focus, we were complete afterthoughts almost to point of being an unconvince to staff. The very weird partI call and leave messages ( 3 of them) over next 10 days with people but never a call back. On 4th call an assistant manager gets on phone and takes ownership, commiserates, offers to mail us a gift card to have us back for a proper experience and to email me her contact info so I can sent her my complete notes on the evening. 3 days later no email so I call back and speak to her again. She says my claim is under investigation by the manager. Never heard from anyone since, never received gift card and not able to reach a manager by phone. What do I do?
Went for a birthday dinner. The food was good but expensive for what it is. Portions were generous. Maybe smaller portions for less price would be better. Food was cooked nicely and didnt take too long. My sweet potato casserole tasted like it went bad. The service was horrendous, just like catering wait staff. Took a while for waitress to come to pour water, never refilled. Nothing was done about the sweet potato casserole.Valet was bad too, parked ourselves cause no one was there when we drove in. They asked what car we had when we picked up.For that price, the level of service should be top notch but it was bad.
It was my wife’s birthday, so we find this lovely place and expected a great dinner. However it turned out to be a bad experience .Valet - The valet opens my car door and greets me and ask if Im staying here. I tell him that I have a reservation for the restaurant. He hesitates and asks me “if Im sure” and that they dont take walk ins. I tell him that “I am sure” and that I have a reservation at 630. With a weird look on his face, he accepts my keys. I felt very unwelcomed from the beginning.Hostess - I asked for a patio outdoor seating and noted that it was my wifes birthday on Resy. So thats what I expected when I cam in. however the hostess says that she doesnt have any outdoor seating for another 20 minutes. Since its only 20 minutes, I tell her Ill wait for the outdoor table to be available and she leads me to the garden. After 45 minutes, we wait on a random seat at the garden to see if she will come back and bring us to the available outdoor seat. She never came. A random waiter came to ask if I needed a menu, and I opted to sit on an open table at the garden.About 1.5hrs into our dinner (waiting on our entrees for 45min+ after our Appetiziers came) we were getting cold, so I ask 3 different servers if they had a table inside that we could move to. The same hostess comes back and tells me that hey are fully booked for the night and there are no inside tables. Disappointed, I contemplated about just cancelling my entrees and going home. A few mins later, my main server (the hero), not knowing that the hostess just spoke to me, ran to see if they had any indoor tables, came back, and told me there was a table inside he could move me to, and led me to a dining room with 4 EXTRA TABLES. We waited 20 more min for our food and finished our dinner there.Terrible experience. Felt unwelcomed, forgotten. I dont think Ill be coming back.
We went for dinner on a Friday evening.. The restaurant is small & cozy. Service was very good. We had the lobster meatballs, crab cakes, coconut shrimp, sliders and french onion soup. The crab cakes were AMAZING, the sliders were good as well as the coconut shrimp. The french onion soup had pulled pork in it which was not very good, the soup itself was delicious but they destroyed it with the pulled pork. I would pass on the lobster meatballs. The bone in ribeye was a total disappointment. There was no bone, my steak was 80% fat and the cream of spinach on top of the steak was wierd. I had the brownies for dessert. They were AMAZING & made up for the steak. I gave 4 stars because of the location and the friendly staff. They need to work on the menu because its such a shame to have such a nice place and a weird menu of food.
I came to dine in sometime last week with some of my colleagues and we were served by a handsome young man, Daniel. I just had to leave a review and let everyone know how amazing he was! Daniel was extremely attentive with keeping our table clean, making sure our food was superb and my.. was it delicious! As a first timer, I must say because of this amazing experience, we will be visiting much more often! I highly recommend this establishment to everyone in the area who is looking for amazing service and a delicious meal. Thanks again Daniel, we will see you soon!
The castle is amazing! Saw a wedding which occupied the whole grounds so couldnt walk around but the atmosphere was genuinely appreciated and the owner is a true gentleman. Walked up to everyone in the restaurant in a button down and jeansWould love to come back again.
This place is awesome, we get to meet the owner Gary, great guy, the mansion tour was closed, and when we met, I mention to him that if at all possible that we can have a quick tour, he said but be quick due to upcoming wedding. We were there for lunch, the waitress was amazing. definitely a 5 star service.
This place is really beautiful. It was on my bucket list forever. When we got there I asked if we could sit outdide, it was a very nice warm night. There were only 3 couples out there and we were told no its reserved. Ok so we are inside, it was pretty. Our food came and it wasnt prepared how we asked for. He wanted no mushrooms i wanted the gravy on the side etc. When you pay these prices you expect what you ask for. It was filet mignon and both thick cuts were rare not medium. Overall it was good. But not great as I expected.
Service was outstanding, food was ok, and what made the visit to this place a horrible experience was when the owner introduced himself and asked how much Cocaine we sold to afford the dinner 🤯.I was there with two of my friends we are all Proud Latinas, and this type of comment was really offensive. Educate yourself a little better Sr when your waiter have more manners than you it says a lot about your lack of education.
If you have never been to OHEKA Castle, then run, run as fast as you can to this magnificent crowing jewel of all historic Gold Coast Mansions. And if you are hungry and live on Long Island and are tired of the same old haunts, that I highly suggest that you get your friends together and have dinner here. The food is outstanding and the room is beautiful and so nice for a change of scenery. They start you out with delicious bread and this obscene gorgonzola cream. Then come the appetizers, too many good ones to list and delicious entrees. I had the Cioppino tonight and it was world class. So glad that they created this restaurant here so that we have more reasons to come and enjoy this glorious destination.
Drinks were okay. Food was nothing like I expected it to be for over $300 for 3 people for lunch. This being a high class place/Mansion I expected better again especially for the prices. Not flavored/seasoned well at all. Asparagus wasnt edible. Carrotts were way under cooked and flavorless. The steak was way overcooked (we asked for medium well and got well), and not flavored well. What was supposed to be a no more than 1 1/2 hour lunch turned into a 3 hour ordeal because the waitress kept taking so long to come back to the table. It got to the point at the end after waiting 40 mins to pay for our meal we just got up and practically had to force them to let us pay already and get us out if there. The service was so bad I didnt even want to tip but I did anyway because thats just not who I am. We wont be returning however or reccomending this place. Theres other places on Lond Island well be trying instead.
Amazing food! TBH I had been to the castle for a wedding but ever knew there was a resturant until I heard a little promo on my news Radio station. The food was truly just perfection. I got roasted Hickenlooper and there wasnt a bite I didnt love. I had the Italian Chicken soup which was just incomparable to any soup Id ever had before. And I had the peanut sundae which was very good.I took my girlfriend here as a little surprise for our second anniversary and I walked in knowing my wallet was going to loose as much weight as I would gain but it was worth it. Litterally the beat food Ive had in a resturant in forever. I only wish it was cheaper. Id be there constantly but the price fits the quality.
Its a nice place, has a possibility have a great restaurant but it didnt happen, service is very bad, food is like i came to the wedding and its ok, but nothing great, 5 pieces ravioli for 51$ its too much when quality is low. You cant see anything from restaurant side, but you can walk outside.
Service was great.Ambiance was nice. The food however... Needs work for the price, the highlights of the meal were the crab cake and the cheese sauce served with the bread. The chicken was overcooked and dry. The French dip and burger were decent. The lobster roll was in my opinion one of the worst I have eaten.

2022-06-29We came here for brunch on Sunday and I wanted to do the tour as well but unfortunately it was sold out for the weekend. Definitely make a reservation early if you can. The restaurant is located on the second floor of the Oheka Castle and it was the perfect setting for brunch al fresco. We were first seated in the courtyard, but it was too hot under the sun so they allowed us to move to the patio. The service was good and the owner even came to greet us at the table. The crab cake was definitely our favorite dish out of the four we ordered, so highly recommend. The bucatini pasta and egg Benedict was good too. The spinach and arugula salad was a disappointment though. It looked like the size of a side salad and was quite bland. I still give it a five star because of the unique experience of dining in a castle and there are plenty of opportunities to visit the grounds and take pictures.

2022-07-02As Im looking for this business on Yelp, I spotted the question of gender bathroom. (Other businesses must have it but this is the first time I see the question.) Im all for equality but whats the POINT of sharing the bathroom? My experience with shared bathroom so far hasnt been positive at places like Met Museum, etc.: bit scary to see masculine men in the little space. What more, is they usually dont flush. So, to answer the question, I think it is No as of now.Ill def return, given the fact that bathrooms remain separate. The venue is great, except the valet courtyard parking - do they really need the space and the service? The parking lot is just two steps away, and pretty empty. We sat outside, looking out to the cars and greens beyond. Its 88 degrees day but was comfortable. The service of the restaurant is really good, so is the food. Weve Burrata and quinoa salads. For drink, weve Brooklyn draft and Clos du Bois Chardonnay - all are delicious, especially the burrata. It is an event venue, with a hotel (on the second and third floor) and many rooms for occasions.

2022-05-24Brutally honest !!! I love this place especially the way the owner makes you feel , Now the Manager of the Restaurant it’s self it’s the WORST most unprofessional, unethical, inefficient, amateur Mangager ! We paid thousand of Dollars to celebrate our Union day to have a beautiful lunch with our families. He made me feel so uncomfortable and definitely was an unpleasant experience . I did not enjoy my day due to the lack of knowledge on his end on bridal dresses ,Which was not my mistake but his!!!! even prior to the luncheon he would reply with a one word answer-which for Someone who attended Harvard university it’s just SLOPPY !.I Would like to thank our server Kimberly who was amazing as usual !!!! Service was Top !!! And the owner sister who helped in the situation . I hope he reads this too !!!!!

2021-10-10Yup…3 stars. And all of those are for the gorgeous setting, a robber baron era castle turned into a hotel/restaurant. Come for dinner and you’ll get some great pictures on the red carpet in front of the impressive castle, in the gardens, by the fountain, next to statuary, etc. But you won’t get great food or great service, especially considering the Michelin 4 star prices you’ll pay. Our food was OK, but nothing remarkable (we ordered the filet mignon, the chicken, and other entree). And while our server was friendly, it took a long time from order to serving, and then from finishing to ordering dessert, then to be brought our check. We sat down to eat at 6:00 pm and weren’t getting up from our table until just after 9:00 pm.A bonus for us though. There was an extravagant wedding taking place there (as there often is), so we could look out the large window in our dining room and see the proceedings. Then after dinner we were able to step out on the green and witness the fireworks display that was part of the wedding.

2021-09-06Dining experience was delightful and beautiful view of courtyard, grounds, and interior design. Food was good, menu had various choices for every palate. The wait for the food and service was a long time, however, if you’re not in a rush or just relaxing as you eat…it’s not bad of a wait. Overall good for families and friends to celebrate birthdays and holidays.

2021-07-03It was supposed to have a beautiful ending as most fairytales do, but it was quite the opposite at this castle. Had a reserved dinner for my husband’s birthday - party of five. We were warmly received and seated by the gracious hostess who also coordinate a gift delivery to my husband at the table (well done). Appetizers and dinners were on point (scrumptious); dessert was a miss but it wasn’t a big disappointment. Our check came and we were charged for an extra cocktail. Brought it to our waitress attention and she decided to challenge us on a $400.00+ check for a $16.00 cocktail. This makes no sense to me. Here’s the thing ~ we had 3 different people who waited on our table 1) the bartender who initially came and took our drink order, 2) our waitress who was busy with other tables and 3) another waitress who took our dinner order. I’m sorry if you guys can’t get your orders record keeping correctly but just know that this did not make us feel good especially when you decided to press on with your incorrect bill. In the end, the male bartender removed the 3rd cocktail charge, but they were no apologies for the mistake THEY made.Side note - you’re working at a restaurant in a castle, you may want to give yourself the chance to listen to your customers than to be heard.A nice touch to our evening - the owner of the castle walked around and greeted all his guests in the restaurant.Food - 4 starAmbiance - 5 starCocktails - 5 starService/our waitress - 2 star

2021-09-15We went for Sunday brunch. They got amazing crab cakes and calamari. Ambience in the restaurant is open and pretty busy but try to get a window seat for the views. They also have outdoor seating overlooking the front yard which is used as parking too.
