If you have never had a REAL banh mi than you could very much enjoy these sandwiches as just a sandwich with viet inspirationLoved the food BUT the banh mi was not a banh mi. It was good but lacked vinager daikon and carrots, pate,, viet mayo and pepper and roll was not a baguette. Without most those ingreadiants you cant make that claim.I can say the cold cut sandwich kept it real with cha lua and head cheese which is hard to come by around here and the Char siu bbq pork and Nem Nuong pork patty were not bad at all.I dont think Ill go back because its a 25min drive for me and the only reason i went was to try the sandwich which didnt live up to the perfect banh mi sandwichs I grew up eating as a child in Dallas. But then again no one has yet. If you have never had one made correctly you will probably love these sandwiches.
It was my first time going here, it was absolutely a great experience. Im glad we stopped by. Anyone that loves Asian Cuisine should definitely try this place. The owner and the workers are very polite, and helpful. The food was delightful, very rich and delicious. The restaurant itself was very lay back, perfect for dates or gathering(Might required to call ahead for big parties).Personally, this is one of the best thai/vietnamese restaurants in Buffalo. I will be coming here more often, and will suggest others to try as well. Note: parking can be an issue, depending what time in the day. Or if its the weekend. You might have to do a little walk to the restaurant. But most of the time youll be fine.
This was my first trip here after passing by it to and from work many times. The service was fast and friendly and I arrived just before the dinner crowd started coming in. I ordered the dumplings, short rib, pineapple chicken, and beef pho to go and it was all very tasty. I cant wait to try some of the other items. Pho Lantern is medium priced for dinner entrees, but they have daily specials and lunch specials as well.
Great service! Wonderful vegetarian options. Be sure to check the weekly specials! There is a deal on a tasty dish almost every single day. They have a good happy hour as well. There are a couple traditional beer and wine options along with Thai beer and Sake. There is fantastic variety on the menu! I hope they dont change a thing (other than even more vegitarian options of course) :)
Absolutely wonderful! Dont judge the book by its cover! This place is absolutely beautiful and elegant! The food was amazing! The owner was very friendly and allowed me to subsitute so I could enjoy the garlic ginger sauce! It was out of this world! I would say one of the best restaurants I ever ate at!
I absolutely recommend this place! I came in and everyone was extremely sweet. Everything was very clean and the food was amazing! I’ve never been to a restaurant like this but they took time and helped me order and explained everything! If you are looking for different food and awesome people I recommend this place!
Ive loved this place for years, since before it even had this name, back when it looked like a little school cafeteria....and now ots beautiful with its full size terrarium and fishtanks! The food is amazing, the staff is always friendly and patient..and again...the food is amazing. Best Tom Yum Soup in WNY!
Authentic Vietnamese menu and kitchen. Vietnamese coffee and combination noodle are my must have! They have daily half price special. Sunday special is 10 dumplings, steamed or fried .This place is fully wi-fi and social media connected, 😆 best Vietnamese restaurant in the area.
My favorite place to eat in all of Buffalo!! So many options for everyone on their menu. Every single thing I’ve tried has been outstanding and the service is amazing every single time. Fantastic flavors, fresh ingredients, and big portions for really great prices. I recommend this place to almost everyone I meet. Try their vermicelli bowls, spring rolls, short rib, banh mi, delicious smoothies, you really can’t go wrong!
I absolutely love their bánh mì! A friend recommended it to me years ago and Ive been hooked ever since! I usually get it at least once a week. I have yet to really explore their menu beyond this but just yesterday I tried their avocado salad and a mango smoothie and both were delicious. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover the salad is discounted significantly on Saturdays. I understand they have special discounts on certain items everyday of the week. Excluding Mondays of course because they are closed.
Had a mango milk tea and a grilled pork banh mi to go. Service was great with nice girl with some cool tattoos that took my order. Wish that the milk tea had come blended (I didnt ask for that though, just used to it coming that way) and the bread on the banh mi was not as crispy as the baguettes normally come. Still, best I have found in Buffalo. Ill be back.
Another great restaurant hidden in this area of Niagara we found during our road trip. Everything we ordered tastes good with great portion and reasonable price. We had the steamed fish, vietnamese fried rice, combination pho soup, calamari, and tempura. The best Pho restaurant we had so far. If youre in the area, a definite must try.
A friend wanted to hangout and suggested that we try this place and it was nothing short of excellent. I have never had Vietnamese food and have always heard of pad Thai but with all the other yummy sounding options on the menu I was completely torn. I asked the server what she would recommend as someone who has never been to this restaurant and she assured me the pad Thai was a great beginner dish. I ordered the shrimp pad Thai with a spicy level of two and it was very good. The servers were attentive and friendly I would definitely recommend and definitely go back.
I went there last night for the second time and I thought it was just okay nothing outstanding. The beef pho didnt seem to have the real good beef flavor to it in the broth. The composition of the spring rolls was more lettuce than anything else. They forgot my strawberry smoothie although service was okay. They do have interesting specials. Last time I went it was better but thats the way it goes
Ordered beef pho and pad Thai, and while the portions were generous, the food was extremely mediocre. The pho broth tasted like the restaurant just uses canned chicken broth, and it was missing the aromatics and savory flavor homemade broth brings. The pad Thai was also weak, bulked up by noodles but missing any soul. Very disappointing, given the positive reviews; Ill be sticking to other Vietnamese places in the future.
I went here with my girlfriend because of the reviews on their vegan items. They do have a section on their menu with vegetarian offerings. The steamed dumplings were delicious, and the fried rice was just okay. We ordered a veggie pho and my gf the udon noodle soup. The pho was not the best Ive had, the flavor was mild, but it did have a good amount of rice noodles; I would have liked to have more veggies. The udon soup had much more flavor. I usually use sriracha and hoisin sauce, but the ones they offer are not vegan, and the hoisin ingredients with their brand (a common brand) arent too healthy. Perhaps Im a picky eater or have been spoiled with better pho. Maybe they could increase the five spices that make up the pho? Not sure. I did like that they have various size bowl options for the pho. I saw they offer discounts on certain days of the week on certain items, which is cool. This place isnt horrible, but I think there is room for improvement on their vegetarian menu. I do appreciate their efforts in this area.
We went to Pho Lantern before a show at the Kavinoky Theater. The food was delicious even for kids that had never sampled Asian food and the shaking beef seemed to be a favorite. The spring rolls are huge and really good. The service was excellent, maybe somewhat slow but very careful and accommodating. We can’t wait to return.
The food and ambiance here is amazing. The service is fast and always friendly. I have come here, sat down, eaten a large pho and been out in under 45 minutes (and most of that is because Im a slow eater). On the other hand Ive come with friends and had appetizers, main courses, drinks, and good conversation. This place is great for both. PLUS! They have great eat-in happy hour prices!
It was my first time going and the energy just walking into the restaurant is just so calm and welcoming. My sister took my to Pho for my birthday dinner and it was absolutely amazing ! I’m a very tough critic , I don’t like when my food is messed up but we got there we sat down and within 15-20 minutes we got our food . Everything tasted so FRESH and DELICIOUS! It was mind blowing how amazing everything tasted , even the water tasted so fresh and crisp ! definitely got my vote and recommendation !
Excellent! The reviews are right..it is very relaxing. The food is also very good.I had a thai iced tea which was very refreshing. The red curry dish is a stand out. The fried dumplings with the dipping sauce are also great.I would highly recommend this place!Everything about it was very pleasing.
After intending to go there for quite some time (several years), I finally had the opportunity earlier this month to eat at the Pho Lantern restaurant on Niagara Street (at Rhode Island) in Buffalo earlier this month. I am so glad that I did! Welcoming, pleasant location, ambience and environment. Professional, pleasant, and attentive staff. And outstanding food! Much better than expected! Ample portions of delicious fare. Egg roll as good as it can be. Bun Bo Hue (Vietnamese spice beef noodle soup) which defines the classic fare was par excellence. Spicy Udon, with pork, as the main course was delicious. As good as it gets! My only regret is that I did not go there sooner.
If i could give this place 6 stars I would. Unplanned group of 14 and the service was awesome. Ordered the Bahn Mi and a small vegetable Pho more than enough to satisfy. The sandwich was fresh and the bread nicely toasted. The Pho was also great and I would def be returning for the same and to try the rest of the menu. Sap Sap!
Pho Lantern is a hidden gem. The food, service and atmosphere all deserve a 10/10. Their broth is phenomenal and there are many options to choose from. The waitress gave me recommendations as if she knew me better than I knew myself and she did not disappoint. The atmosphere is very intimate and a great place for a date. You must go here!
Went here with a friend on a Saturday evening. It was not busy when we arrived around six oclock. We were promptly greeted and seated, it is a relaxed but elegant atmosphere. The menu is extensive and I ordered a coconut bubble tea to start, unfortunately they were out of bubble tea that day. I stuck with water at that point, the water could use filtering as it had a mildly unpleasant aftertaste.Next we each ordered a chicken avocado salad as an appetizer. It is a special on Saturday for five dollars. It was served promptly, the waitress was friendly and attentive. The salad itself was quite large, a real bargain at five dollars. It was equally tasty. For an entree I ordered a short rib vermicelli. It was served while we were only half way through the appetizers. The entree was also quite tasty but a bit difficult to eat with the bones. All in all a good dining experience that I will certainly repeat.
The food was fantastic as was my bubble tea. I liked the fish tanks along the wall. Service was fast and I was able to get served and back to work in under an hour.I ordered the rice noodle salad bowl with shaking beef and eggroll. The roll was crisp and hot when served.I really recommend the food and service was great!
This was a real surprise. I had the best seafood Pad Thai in Buffalo. No fishy sauce with a good amount of seafood. It is very peaceful with well maintained and beautiful acquaria. It was fun to watch the fish while waiting for my food. Good beer selection though a very short list. Because of their modern order system sometimes the dishes come out at inappropriate times but it didnt really bother me since all of the food was delicious. Servers were very sweet.
Excellent service, great variety of excellent authentic entrées, large selection of import and domestic beers. Very pleasant atmosphere, including several large salt water aquariums. Oh, and the table service was very fast and low-key. Great place for a date. Ive been there 5 times so far, highly recommend.
Im here frequently. Great ambiance with huge salt water aquariums.Food wise, I havent had better rare beef pho anywhere in the city. Its amazing.Their staff is always very attentive, and polite.Pricing is exactly what you would expect from the portion size and quality of food.I love this place.
Never had Vietnamese food before. We were very happy with how clean the place was and more importantly with the huge portions of surprisingly delicious food. Keeping a wife and teenager happy with food they never wanted to try is always a good thing. Thanks. Well definitely be back!
PHOnominal food, good prices, Delicious Pho, noodle dishes, Phat Thai, and appetizers, like Steamed Mussels in Coconut curry sauce! You should look at their daily specials and get great deals on delicious dumplings, spring rolls, and the mussels. Even the vegetarian dishes are good! Good for individuals, groups, business lunches, or families. Ive done it all there!
I love this place. Their food is fantastic. I personally love the rice vermicelli salad bowls. The curry beef? So worth it. And the banh mi sandwiches? I dont know anywhere else that does them.I could go on for a while about how great I think this place is, but in short: super tasty. Highly recommended.
In on business for the week. I honestly SOOOO wanted to like this place. I ordered the Rare Beef Pho to go because I was going back to the hotel to eat it. When I got back to the hotel room, a six minute drive, I opened the to-go bag. There was a tall plastic container full of broth and one of those three section Styrofoam containers with the noodles, basil, and other items like jalapeno slices, onion slices and green onion slices. The Rare Beef was sliced and wrapped in clear plastic on top of the noodles. The rare beef was raw, in fact, still partially frozen. I understand thats how you can shave it so thin. So, I barely could fit the rare beef in the container with the broth. at which point the broth was cool, not cold, but cool. So I put the plastic container with the beef and broth in the microwave. It, of course, boiled over in hotel room microwave. I only put it in for one minute. By the time I was done cleaning the cabinet, microwave, and counter of the Pho broth, it was cool again... I sipped enough broth off the top to add the Thai basil leaves, the two jalapeno slices, and the sliced white and green onion in. I added the Hoisin sauce and tried to add the sriracha type sauce. I couldnt open the packet with my fingers even after washing and drying the packet and my hands. So I used my teeth. I was barely able to get it torn a little. Im trying not to have it explode all over my face and clothing. I put the packet over the container of broth start to squeeze and..... it explodes all over me, the counter, and the coffee maker.... At this point, after cleaning THAT up, the Pho is cold, and I still have no room for the noodles OR the bean sprouts. I dont even want to eat it like this, so I try the Chicken Satay app I ordered. It smelled great, Im hungry and so I thought I could at least try that. The first bite of the large chicken piece has that feel of the chicken not being cooked all the way. I look at it and its slightly translucent. I throw EVERYTHING away and go to the hotels convenient store and grab a bag of chips... The nice satisfying lunch I was looking forward to.Wouldnt a paper container bowl that could hold all the stuff in the Styrofoam container AND the broth make more sense? The local Pho place where Im from prepares it that way. After all, not everyone that orders it to-go, is going home to eat it where they have a nice large bowl to put it all into waiting for them....
Beware of your requested spice level! The vegetarian Pad Thai I ordered was phenomenal, but had more heat than I expected considering my requested spice level. The open dining area doesnt provide much privacy, but the service was quick and friendly and the food fantastic.
Great food. Pristine broth, which is the most important element of pho. Papaya salad is such a great appetizer, I would love it even more if it was spicier, but I love the heat!!Amazing service. The owner and his wife are hard working folk who love making their customers feel welcome and happy!A must try in Buffalo!!
The food here is decent. I think their pho dish is the best thing they have. The only reason why they have such a low rating from me is because every single time I order to-go from here they always mess up at at least one of my orders. Sometimes everything is messed up. I’m pretty forgiving and easy going but it’s been 5 times in a row where they have messed up my order
Dont let the outside fool you. When we got there I wasnt sure it was even a restaurant, but the inside is very nicely decorated. The staff was attentive and the food was very good! They have specials every day so I tried the lemongrass chicken and tom yum soup. I also had a bubble tea and a veggie spring roll to start. All excellent! Also, they list everything on the menu that is vegetarian and gluten free. This is helpful for a lot of people. Thank you!
Great atmosphere inside this retauraunt. The staff was accommodating and friendly. Had the seafood platter and phoritto both of which were spectacular. The seafood platter especially tasted very fresh and the sauce was delicious. If Im ever in Buffalo again I will be back!
The Beef Ribs were good. Some pieces needed less day in them tho. The fact that they have beef ribs will make me come back because restaurants in Buffalo general dont have beef. The chicken avocado salad was great!Clean facility. Open space. Excellent specials. Definitely will return.
Nice place with clear printed menu. Beautiful interior. Party of 19 people came for lunch. We called 5 minutes ahead, and got seated relatively quick. The food was good. We came from San Jose, California, where Vietnamese food must be highly Vietnamese taste. Lantern restaurant delivers it. Highly recommended.
Ordered take-out for the Red Curry Chicken. I asked for Extra spicy too. It was delicious and the spice level was perfect. The staff were friendly, order was ready on time. Giving 4 stars because I wish they packed the container for the rice a little bit more. The rice to curry ratio was not there. Other than that, food was great and worth the $10
While visiting a college, my dad and I decided to try this restaurant-- I had SUCH an amazing experience :) the staff was friendly and educated about allergens (Im allergic to gluten (Celiacs disease)). my food was wonderful and quite well priced. if I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Ive been coming here for years. I moved here from Oklahoma City where there is a surprisingly large Vietnamese population. I needed to find the best Banh Mi in Buffalo. This place has been my go to Banh Mi for the last several years. Ive also tried many of their other dishes and been very pleased. They have remodeled a lot over the last few years and its very nice in there now. They have great fish tanks as well. I eat here for dine in and take out and never have any complaints. I also recommend the Vietnamese iced coffee. Very strong, and very sweet, so good!
One of my favorite sea food restaurants in Buffalo! Great healthy options - there’s something for everyone. My family of 3 ate at Pho lantern on a Saturday night. The place was about 2/3 full with a constant line of people picking up take out or getting bubble tea. The new water feature is a nice addition to the already great fish tanks in the space. We had a variety of dishes, including the phorito special. It was surprisingly good. The grilled pork bon mi was good, as well as the pho with rare beef. We also had the lemongrass chicken which was tasty. Reasonable prices and very good food. The pho was rich tasting but not greasy at all. We will definitely be going back.
The ambiance and decor is perfect. Gorgeous fish tanks with exotic fish and anemonies. Bathrooms are very clean and large. The service is extremely friendly and polite. The avocado spring rolls are delicious! We ordered the veggie pho and the rare beef pho. Both were perfect.
We had ordered take out several times from Pho Lantern and had always been impressed with the excellence of the food. Today we ate in at the restaurant for the first time and we were not disappointed! We hadnt realized it was such a highly rated seafood venue, so we started with the crab legs in butter, and the fried quail. Both were amazing. My husband continued with the raw beef pho, which he says was excellent, and I had the tofu pad thai, which was also excellent. My only regret was that I didnt take pictures of the beautiful presentation of the dishes. As a side note, the feng shui in the restaurant is imaginatively well done. Thanks for a wonderful anniversary dinner, Pho Lantern!
Awful. Ordered pad thai with chicken and pad thai with tofu. The chicken was teeny tiny slivers (and very few), the noodles were dry, it had no flavor! The tofu was burnt, and both those entrees with one order of $5 wings came to $50. Worst pad thai i have ever had, and i wont ever order from here again. Waste of money.
Good pho! Come here if you enjoy large bowls of pho. If you write a review with 5 sentences and a photo you get a free appetizer, just show review to waitress. I had the papaya salad it was very good and looked nice. Its big enough to share but you might not want to.
On the outside its called Niagara Seafood, unless theyre getting a new sign to change the name. We had a large group of about 14 and they accommodated us most graciously. Everyone enjoyed their food, except the fish fry is pretty dull compared to the spectacular, colorful, exotically spiced dishes! Their chicken wings are excellent too.
The bahn mi was the real star of the show. I have to admit, I got almost all the way through it before I noticed why my mouth was on fire. Jalapenos. Which, for someone who is not a complete wimp, is awesome. Even despite the extra kick, I was still in love with the sandwich. The pad thai was nice. Pretty simple but really delicious and filling.
Authentic Vietnamese fare in the middle of the Buffalo tundra. What do you know?! But seriously, we tried multiple traditional Vietnamese dishes here including Pho and they were all delicious. Their version of the papaya salad was also right on the money. Wish the ambiance were more cozy and inviting; I found the interior décor to be quite dark and cold. Service on a slow weekend afternoon was adequately attentive.
Update . I use to love this place spent a lot of money with them . But Recently I went and came in to grave a quick bite it was 4 people in there total I walked up the the Register while to (white) gentlemen we’re behind me. The guy looks me dead in my eye and speaks over my shoulder and say can I help you to the 2 gentleman behind me they informed the man that I was 1st in line and he proceeds to tell them that I could wait . I’ll never ever ever come there again needless to say that made the 2 gentleman so uncomfortable that we left and they apologize for something they didn’t even do I’ll tell everyone who would listen DONT EVER EVER EVER GO THERE

2022-05-29This is clean, fresh, delicious, and visually spectacular food. I only wished the restaurants physical space was more appealing. The dishes are very large, smell beautiful, and come to the table like little works of art. Im not a giant Thai food fan, but youd have to be a fool not to appreciate this gem.

2022-03-24I re-visited this place after a long time. We ordered spring roll, bahn-mi with salad, and a extra large pho.Soup was very good although it tasted like a little bit of instant pho soup. It was a lot better than other places in Buffalo I have been, including the portion of the food. I barely finished the pho! Also, spring roll was thick enough to fill my stomach. Each day has different discounted menu. They were kind and ask if everything was good during the meal (which is not a normal thing to expect from some other Asian restaurants). Only thing they can improve is probably the sauce lids. It would be better if they would wipe the leftover sauce around the lids! Satisfied experience.

2021-10-13Nice and comfortable place to sit down and eat a bowl of delicious vermicelli noodle with grilled pork and egg roll. My husband had an egg roll and the spicy udon, which he enjoyed. Service was wonderful. Recommended if youre the area.

2021-09-25Nice and comfortable place to sit down and eat a bowl of delicious Pho. Passion fruit bubble tea was refreshing. Staff was friendly and atmosphere comfortable. On a chilly rainy evening nothing beats a bowl of Pho. Recommended if youre the area.

2022-01-01We always loved this place, even brought more customers in for that matter told all are friends and family etc. We started to come here about five years ago. Their food was a lot more enjoyable, very clean neat and food was divine..My experience today was horrible and a complete let down. We thought we would come on New Year’s Eve! Why not we love the place. I was not pleased with my meal at all. Didn’t even touch it really, the owner comes up ask me if I want another one made? I said no, thinking why would she offer me a brand new one when I didn’t even like the first one. Our bill came to $100. I find it odd that a manager would make it over again waste time and money but just couldn’t give us our $13 back? So I go home disappointed and completely dissatisfied. I will not be coming here anymore there whole system went down it seems.. From the food, thai tea, up keep - Went down hill. Jasmines way better.

2021-01-18This place was awesome and now I understand why that have all of their ratings posted all over their walls-The restaurant is clean and had TVs with music on and fish tanks to look at. Its eclectic but provides a nice atmosphere. They have a bunch of daily specials that seem super reasonable. The pho was awesome- the XL size is enough to feed 2 people and the pad Thai is one of the best around. The mango salad is like nothing I have ever had before but delicious- spicy but I highly recommend. I couldnt believe the amount of take out orders coming out of the kitchen on a Sunday night- its nice to see a business doing well. They have lots of bubble tea to choose from- I didnt order one but saw a bunch go out and I will definitely try next time. Best part besides the food quality? Super cheap-

2022-01-19Healthy, hot Pho!! Authentic, delicious, healing tradition soup and all the sides to go with it. Also enjoyed dumpling. A must try, we ordered out but the dining looked warm, well spaced and clean.

2022-05-26Im not crazy on Vietnamese food, at least the dishes Ive tried, although my friend loves it, but I will give it 4 stars because the food is very healthy and fresh. However, needs to give less noodles and more protein in their meals.

2021-02-08I used to come here to get my usual noodle dishes such as pho until I peeped at their seafood selections and it has been a game changer.First, I would like to say that this restaurant has great tasting noodle dishes including their pho and bun bo hue. The bun bo hue is sometimes a miss for me because it smells too strongly of pork at times but I know I have a pretty sensitive nose so maybe its just me. The pho is always on point though. This was my first time ordering dozen clams with their spicy lemongrass butter and it turned out to be a great experience. If you get any of their seafood, I highly recommended getting it with this butter versus just getting it steamed plain. It mixes so well with all the seafoods! (They have other seafood options as well). The next time I came back to this restaurant, I just ordered a side of small noodles ($2-3) with my seafood dish to dip in the sauce so I can have this dish as a meal. You can also get rice or French bread and I believe they have different portion sizes too. They also have various happy hour, weekday, and lunch deals so you can pretty much get a deal most days of the week even if you just happen to stop by randomly.Overall I recommend this restaurant if youre in the mood for some good old pho or if youre feeling adventurous, try the Vietnamese style seafood dishes as well!Clam with lemongrass butter
