Our first time at the Pok- A-Dot! And definitely won’t be our last. To start with, the two women working on this date… where awesome! They told us a bit about the history of the restaurant and where very pleasant. Now to the food… we ordered the beef on weck, and french fries and gravy… they both where AMAZING!!! We will definitely stop back out there when in the neighborhood! Great job ladies! Hopefully we will get back out there soon.
My coworkers said that since I was going to Burger King I should just try this place. Yeah... I threw most of the food right in the trash. Batavia must have a low standard cuz if this was Buffalo they would be out of business. Ive never had a burger I couldnt at least eat. Two stars for being fast at least.
Going downhill with all the changes they have made. New people working do it a different way that’s wrong, to most of the regulars. There is this attitude of like hurry up and eat and leave that wasn’t there before. They don’t pay attention to the details of your order anymore like they did when it was less popular. Extra crispy fries? No shot. Well done hotdog ? Nope. They are in too much of a hurry to do it right. Happened enough times the last year to make me write a review.
The building itself made me turn and look at it. Its a small little building with an old school type of feel to it. There isnt much seating inside of the building and they do have some outside seating too. There is an additional room where you can get takeout and eat also.Reading the reviews to this place I thought this is a must try in Batavia. I ended up going into the takeout room since I thought it led to the main building but it didnt. I read a lot of reviews about the Beef on wick for this place and how good it is. Apparently, this sandwich is a western Ny favorite as just about every place Ive eaten at so far in Batavia has its own version. I figured this place must be the best since its been around so long.I also ordered the fried mushrooms. I had a side of ranch and horseradish for my food. After I got my food, the fried mushrooms were nice and crunchy. They were fried well as there wasnt a lot of oil that was sitting in my little dish of them and they didnt taste oily either. My sandwich was decent but not as enjoyable as I was hoping it would be. The top of the roll was a little soggy and salty. Perhaps they dip it into some Au jus but it didnt look like it had been. The salt I would guess is just from the roll itself. The meat wasnt as tender as Id hoped. It didnt have a lot of flavor or seasoning to it unfortunately either. From the picture of it on there restaurant, I was expecting it to be more on the mid-rare/ medium cook. I added my sauce mix of ranch and horseradish together. It helped make it a bit more enjoyable.Overall, I was a little underwhelmed by the sandwich they seem to advertise as there star. I was expecting to enjoy it more but a little dissappointed. I realize its a local favorite spot and has a lot of repeat customers. Just my experience I felt wasnt as good as others. Would I give it another try? Yes, I would. Ill just have to try another option there as I would hope to have a more enjoyable experience next time.
I had never been here before but always wanted to try it, Looks like a cute little diner with a name like the polka dot youd seems like it would be a good experience..So my GF and I went in for a late morning breakfast. It Immediately felt like were unwelcomed outsiders. The staff was busy chatting it up with who I guess were regulars and seemed to be bothered with waiting on us. Our waitress wasnt friendly but The food was good, I have no complaints there. Im just saying if youre looking for that warm, inviting hometown diner atmosphere and service with a smile this probably aint it..
I was here for no more than 30min. Had there signature kimmelwick sandwich and an order of fries and a Pepsi. Note a Pepsi, yes no free refills. And its a 16oz ice filled cup. Price came to somewhere around 12 I believe. The sandwich was good(5 and change), no idea on the cost of the fries. Heard a couple people discussing the fact that you are charged for every drink. Must be rent is very high or something, its all cheap food yet almost $15 if I had purchased a 2nd drink for a sandwich and fries..... Oh and thinking I received the bottom of the French frie bag, fries where crinkle cut and maybe the length of 2 dimes side by side. Good food overall though. Service provided by 3 kind ladies.
We had a day of golfing at Terry Hills and someone suggested the Pok-A-Dot. I am so glad they did. My friends are big fans of Beef on Wek. They were so happy with their sandwiches they ordered another!. I had hot roast beef and french fries in gravy and it was delicious. Pok-A-Dot is now our go-to place in Batavia
The food was okay. The part that annoyed me was that the regulars got their food before the new comers. We ordered our food waited maybe 30 min and in that 30 min 3 regulars came in after us and got their food before us and left by the time we got our food. The customer service was horrible. The lady who served us went outside for a cigarette and talked to her friends instead of cleaning the tables. She never once asked us if we wanted more coffee or orange juice. The woman cooking was eating the food and drinking and touching everything with the same glove on. We also had to go up and ask for more drinks and we had to go up and get our food. She also set the food on the bar where everyone else was sitting which is nasty as it is. The bathroom was nice though so no complaints on that one. The food was okay but the French toast was dry but the home fries were good. Overall it was an okay experience.
Best beef on weck around !!!!! Just went there today to eat inside for the first time since covid and not happy with the seating inside. Pub tables only two people per two foot square table and had to sit on bar stool with no back. Thank goodness I had my backpack purse because no place to put that because no backs on the stools so had to eat with my purse strapped to my back..ugh. Not a nice place to sit and relax to eat. Not older people friendly or family friendly for dining in. Might have to stick with take out. No more free refills either and not the nice ice mugs anymore. Prices have gone up which is understandable just like every other place. Only gave three stars because of the horrible seating but the beef on week was delicious as always.
Its possible my wife and I showed up at the wrong time. It was our first time. We ordered a hot dog sausage and fries as well as battered mushrooms. They were out of battered mushrooms. Are meat came but no fries. We waited awhile for the fries. They were very under cooked. Ate 2 and left the plate.
This place is great, whether you’re passing through town or looking for a regular lunch place. Burgers and hot dogs were hot and fresh, drinks were refilled promptly. Staff is sassy, but warm up quickly. I recommend and will return if we are in the area again. If you love America, you’ll love this place!
If immaculate surroundings and fancy decor are most important to you, dont bother to visit. But if you like good, wholesome food youll find it here. It was obvious that many of the diners were long-time patrons which to me is a good recommendation for any establishment.
Great little diner. Reminded me of the old days. Had beef on weck. Was good. Juicy and flavorful. Prices here are great. Friendly staff. Cash only, but keeping costs low is a good thing. Todays special was a double cheeseburger on a hard roll with fries and a drink for only 7.95, see what I mean? lol. Could use some updating but pretty clean.
We have been by this very small restaurant and the other day we had to be in the town for doctor appointment and afterwards we decided to stop and see what they had for food we both got the Beef on wicked it was excellent it melted in your mouth if you want a homemade meal stop by and you will for yourself
2021We recently were visiting in Batavia and stopped in. There have been some changes but the Beef on Weck is still great. As we would be on the road going home, my wife inquired about ordering 10 to go the next day but separating the beef and rolls so we could fix them at home. The server was fantastic and told us what we needed to make it happen. The next day, we went in to place and pick up the order. We had a different server who just couldnt get it right and gave my wife a hard time.2108We lived in Batavia for 50 years and for 27 we only lived a quarter of a mile down the road....and we never went to the Pok-A-Dot. Now, every time we come and visit, this is a must stop, at least once. It may not look pretty, but the staff is friendly and the Beef on Weck is outstanding. Try it once and youll be hooked for life.
Love the food and the atmosphere. Although everyone has a debit card, they only take cash. I would give five stars if there were more payment options aside from cash. I can understand not accepting credit cards due to the transaction fee, but there are no fees with ACH.
Beef on weck, beef on weck, beef on weck...what else can I say this place is amazing. Old school joint making killer beef on wick. Their breakfast looks great and everything we saw being made to order made us want onto try it......... Love the little grill right in front of you at the counter. The servers/cooks/cashiers were fantastic. Just the right amount of spunk that you expect in a neighborhood joint. Locals are lucky to have this gem.
Update:Everything has changed, and unfortunately, for the worse with these new owners. It has lost ALL of its greasy-spoon charm. You can tell this was a burden to these people, and not a Godsend. The old milk dispenser--gone-- the wired chairs--gone-- and replaced with weird high top tables like this is some high end bistro--Now I could probably overlook all these cosmetic changes, but the food has tragically taken a nose dive to pretty much the inedible...The beef tastes sour, like its rancid, the rolls are smooshed and cheap and the kimmelweck rolls have barely any carraway seeds or course salt. The frozen hamburgers taste freezer burned, same as the fries. The gravy is so bland and watery, it legit just tastes like thickened salt water. And now Joanne Cox is gone? The manager that devoted 37 years to this place??? FIRED..must be another fixture they just HAD to get RID of..Sorry, but if nothing changes, I must say, RIP the Dot...#boycottthedot
The food is always fresh and amazing. If your not from batavia it is a must try if your visiting. Five of us ate for $37 and we were all really full. The portions are on the bigger side. The service is always great. If you eat at the dot the whole experience is awesome and they will never let you down. They only accept cash as payment so make sure you know that or youll end up doing dishes or mopping the floors lol.
I have been driving by the Pok-A-Dot for months wanting to enjoy one of their famous Beef on Wicks. Finally I had time to stop and not enjoy. What a disappointment! Not only was the customer service absolutely rude, taking the time to clean dishes while I was the only customer in the restaurant waiting to order, but the beef was dry and tasteless. She toasted my bun for seconds only to make a soggy mess to complement the dry beef perfectly. It was labor day so maybe she wanted to be doing something else. But all I know is that when I want a beef on wick in Batavia I also wanted to be doing something else.
Breakfast and service were okay at best. All empty tables were dirty, yet not overly busy. Watched thin blonde waitress belittle an older obviously regular customer for not having enough cash, then throw her hands in the air when he asked for a cup of ice. Unimpressed and wont be returning.
A quaint, well-established little diner that serves regulars in a smallish city. The Food Is good and quite inexpensive. Theres nothing exotic here, just hots, burgers a quite good roast beef on weck, some pies, inexpensive breakfasts, and just decent food. Oh, and you cant miss it...its polka-dotted!
Every single one of you that gave this a good review is a complete psychopath. This is the filthiest restaurant ive ever seen and its not even a close call. The restaurant opened in the 50s and i dont think the grill has been cleaned since then. Walked to the bathroom and theres was a slab of roast beef in a tray just out in the open with flies everywhere. I watched the waitress grab some raw burger meat with her bare hand and slap it on the grill. Then, same hand, grabbed a bun and put it on the grill. Then, same hand, grab a customers money. No shame in her game. I wat hed some guy lick the spoon in theBowl of community mustard on the counter and then stick the spoon right back in. I kid you not
The pok-a-dot is a historical diner ... A landmark for decades. A warm and friendly atmosphere. The abosolute best food in town...and who doesnt love a frosted mug of their favorite soda. My personal favorite here is the beef on weck...combined with crispy fries and giant onion rings...mmm mmm good. Generation after generation of my family have been dining here and Im sure to continue this tradition with my grandson ...and hopefully many more generations to come.
It is wonderfully colorful places like Pok-A-Dot that make trying a new place fun. As you enter you are faced with a choice, do I sit at a table or the counter. Today the counter is the choice. I quickly order a Beef on Weck sandwich and a soda. The soda is served in a frosted mug while the Beef sandwich is being freshly prepared. The Beef on Weck sandwich is created from roast beef, horseradish, and a very special style Kaiser type bun baked daily. Its the caraway seeds, and pretzel salt baked on the top of the bun and horseradish on top of the beef that make this sandwich so special.I must say without hesitation that this sandwich unique to the Buffalo NY area is a treasure. It is absolutely mouthwatering delicious. A must try.
Local cafe restaurant. Beef (au jus) on weck (simple Kaiser roll, as far as I can tell) was tasty and drippy with horseradish (you smear on) and tomato (I had them add).Place is old and worn out but it has that charm.Counter girls seem to know customers like old friends.
Ok im going with 2 Stars due to the fact that my mom and I went there today for the first time and as I sat there watching them prepare food the lady had used one glove and the other hand was bare she handled money from another customer whats the same glove on and still begin to touch our food with that same dirty glove on how are people allowed to do this in a restaurant like its not right so I highly doubt that they will ever have our service again you know I normally dont do posts like this but that just really got to me

2021-10-02Pok-A-Dot is a classic diner style joint with standard grill sandwich type options with a few unique items such as their beef on a wick. Fried appetizers are pretty standard. Not too many seating options. Says no public restroom, but they have a tiny one they offered us.

2022-03-24My parents always told me it was a good place but I never stopped there even though I pass it everyday. Now that I went a few times recently, I can say it was very good! Its a small place but it has a great atmosphere that kinda takes you back in time. A good good choice of meals. And of course, their beef on wecks are great!

2022-07-03What can you say? Good food! Cheap prices. Always a great place to eat when you are in Batavia. The staff is friendly.Kudos to the young teen who started work today. While his first day, he was keeping up doing everything everyone else was doing, except cooking, which if he stays with it, I am sure that will come in time..

2022-06-15Asked for well done hot dog, well toasted bun and crispy fries. Bun: couldnt tell it was toasted, dog was not well done either. When I informed employee he argued with me that he toasted it. Shame on management for not training staff properly, shame on parents for not training son common courtesy. Didnt bring napkins even when we asked for them. He really acted like he could careless about his job and certainly about the customer and their order. Will not go back and will certainly share my experience with everyone .

2021-07-10First time eating at Pok-A-Dot with the family. I ordered a cheeseburger which was pretty good! Also decent prices! My only complaint is the inside is small, and the bathroom is super tiny.

2022-03-15Best Beef on weck in Western New York. The place is a hole in the wall but excellent grilled and fried foods. Great beef on weck, a WNY specialty. White hots and burgers are excellent. Good breakfast too. New bathroom too! A bit pricey for the location but worth it.
