Rays Restaurant in other cities:
Highly Recommend - You Wont be Disappointed! One of the finest breakfast restaurants around. No pandemic excuses needed here for poor food or wait service. They knocked it out of the park. Their professional wait service, menu variety, food quality and friendliness were ultra-impressive. The breakfast quesadillas and pancakes are simply sublime. Ginger, our waitress did a superb job and was so very accommodating. Could not ask for more. Try em youll like em.
Had chicken salad sandwich which was tasteless and unremarkable, dining partner had the tuna noodle casserole she said it severely lacked seasoning. Only dessert available was a cinnamon roll which was ok. Underwhelming all in all. Server was nice although very rushed.
First time customers today to Rays and we confidently can say, we will be back soon! We loved the Finger Lakes coffee, ambience of the restaurant and our server! I enjoyed the “grilled cheese” breakfast sandwich on Sourdough, and my husband loved the Trucker Sandwich, two meals in one! The chocolate chip pancakes were delicious too! Thank you again!
I went to Rays with my family for breakfast. I ordered the potato pancakes they had on special. I asked if I could substitute the sausage it came with for home fries. No substitutions for our specials, the waitress replied (very rudely, to add). These sausage links essentially went to waste, because the waitress didnt even give me the option *to not even get them*.The pancakes themselves were really salty and quite thick - not the way I remember potato pancakes being. I just really wasnt impressed at all with my meal - the only redeeming part of it was the coffee I had. Poor attitude from the staff I encountered. Less-than-subpar quality for the food. Itll be a while before I give this place another go...
The atmosphere was family friendly, and welcoming. Decor was community embraced and beautiful. The service was excellent! Our waitress Brooke L was our server for both visits and each time she was fast, and friendly. The moved was delicious and the coffee was served hot not like warm.
I have driven by this place hundreds of times and never thought to stop. I finally took my son here for breakfast on a Saturday. So glad I stopped passing it by.It is the best place in Canandaigua I have had breakfast at thats for sure. Inexpensive but feels and tastes the exact opposite. I ordered toast and when it came out there was a small crock of homemade strawberry jam with it. No plastic Smuckers peel off jelly here.I was very impressed and will definitely be back.
The waitress and the people i was with were the only good things. Poached eggs were more like hard boiled, on burnt English muffins. Toast was burnt, homefries had no flavor (boiled potatoe) and chicken n biscuits was bland. No masks in site for employees (thought it was mandated)I guess,to each their own, but we wont be back .
This place is outstanding. Everything is fresh and home made. I had the corned beef hash and eggs which was home made pulled corned beef. As my mom would say this isnt the junk from a can. the corned beef was not salty or greasy with tons of flavor. Coffee is freshly ground, they serve thier own homemade jam and not that sugar jelly served at most places. Staff is incredibly friendly and attentive which seems to be less common in the industry today. Friendly warm atmosphere w tables and a counter. Prices are more than reasonable as my hash, eggs and toast was $9. Rays is a must
Stopped at Rays for an early lunch. Wait to be seated sign was out so we waited and waited and waited. Twice help told us theyd be right with us. One proceeded to chat with a table for a few minutes and walked awayWe could see at least 3 open tables and two booths. Finally we were approached and the woman gave us a whats up gestureSo my husband said were supposed to wait to be seated? And she said yes, why? So he said well, weve been here for awhile. She waved her hand toward the open seats and said sarcastically said can you wait for a server or do you need to eat in a hurry. We were so stunned and embarrassed we left and will MEVER return. plebes treated us with a respectful friendly manner. Same cost for great food and service.
Arguably the worst dining experience Ive ever had. Waited to be greeted only to be told we can sit wherever we want, only to be moved twice. Our server only came to take our order and ask for our money, before our food arrived to the table. I have never felt so rushed to eat a sub par breakfast in my life.
My friend and I were in between appointments and decided to stop somewhere to get something to eat. We were headed to another restaurant but it was closed. I noticed an Open for Breakfast sign at Rays and said, lets give that a try.Boy am I glad we did! The food was off the charts excellent. It was so good that even though it is about a 30 minute drive from my house, I took my bride there 2 days later. Great food, Clean dining area and excellent service. What more could you ask for? I will definitely be going back!
One of my new favorite restaurants! I was blown away by one of their dishes, I had never tried that before it had asparagus in it for breakfast! And their grilled muffins? To die for! Beautiful decor inside. I learned that the owner named it Ray after the rays of sunshine. Friendly people. Service was awesome! When my husband wasnt satisfied with his food, they fixed it right away. We left happy. We will definitely come back!
We have been going to Ray’s for breakfast for years. The atmosphere is nice, staff have always been pretty friendly and the coffee is great. The food is decent for breakfast, but the potatoes have always been a “hit or miss” in our opinion. We went there the other morning and my husband ordered eggs, home fries and sausage. The home fries were NOT EVEN COOKED!!!! Literally raw potatoes with seasonings. We told the waitress and she apologized. She said that they will bring some new ones out for him. A few minutes later, a plate with new home fries arrived. Unfortunately, the new ones were not cooked either!!!! We told the waitress and she apologized again, but did not offer to take them off the bill. I would understand paying for them if the second batch was cooked and were edible, but NONE of the potatoes my husband received were cooked or edible. Not only that, but they also did not bring my husband the sausage links that he ordered. We informed the waitress of this and she double checked the bill, where it did in fact show that my husband ordered sausage links. She apologized again. They were then brought out, very burnt as if they had been forgotten about on the grill. Very disappointing. Unfortunately, that “miss” for the potatoes may have caused it to be our last visit.
Excellent breakfast and it shows! The restaurant is packed and is full of happy chatter as people enjoy their food. The pancakes and waffles look great. I love the Finger Lakes coffee that they serve. The portions are healthy and the prices are good (considering the portions served.) The server was bright and cheerful.Well be back!
I hate to review Rays because it is already a packed house on Sunday mornings. Any more customers and we wont get in. Clean, friendly and much larger than it looks from the outside. We thought the food was very good, hot and fresh. Service was also very good on a very busy morning. Additionally, prices seemed to be a bit more reasonable than some other local diners. Breakfast burrito and veggie omelet recommended, We will definitely be back!
Rays Restaurant is an amazing restaurant. This was my 1st time coming here. Its a wonderful setting inside. The place is nice. The food looks delicious. The staff made me feel right at home.If you were to come here for breakfast, I recommend the Cinnamon Rolls. They were excellent. I also recommend their pancakes. I recommend their chocolate pancakes. The waitress Elka, She did an amazing job serving me & my date. Elka did a wonderful job.I recommend coming here for date night or to see friends or for a family gathering or for any occasion. Ill be definitely coming back. Two Thumbs for Rays Restaurant.
An update from my review below, which was around February 2018. My co-workers and I enjoyed another excellent meal at Rays. I took one sip of coffee and was immediately taken with the upgrade of the flavor. I found that they had switched to Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters, and the change was quite apparent. Again, excellent food and service, and, NOW, excellent coffee. I’m moving from 4 to 5 stars!I have been here 4 or 5 times with coworkers. We have tried a wide variety of items from the menu, and we have enjoyed everything! Excellent food and service. HOWEVER, I need to give it only 4 stars because of the quality of the coffee. Being that they do specialize in breakfast, I feel that quality coffee is important. First, it’s weak. I can actually see the stir stick all the way at the bottom of the dark blue cup. The coffee also tastes cheap, but this may just be because it is not brewed strongly enough. Once again, amazing food and service, but the coffee needs an upgrade.
My friends and I went here for breakfast on Sunday 9/6/2020 between 10-10:30ish.I have never had a complaint about the food but the service has really gone downhill. Our waitress was snobby and seemed irritated with every request. The thing that bothered me the most was the older man(gray hair) and maroon colored shirt who was “greeting” people at the door. He was SO rude to a young boy who “wasn’t going fast enough” for his liking. And he was screaming at his in front of customers. I have been a manager for 5 years and that’s management 101. You NEVER discuss an issue in front of customers or other employees. That is a discussion for the back room in private. Instead of that older man standing there and doing NOTHING, he could have helped the boy that seemed like he was overwhelmed.I don’t know if we will return
Great food & service with a great selection of breakfast & lunch stuff! Their menu focuses on local food, farm to table stuff! Try the grilled cheese (with your choice of cheese) on the sunflower bread! Even comfort food like onion rings are made somehow less greasy & super yummy! If you want pancakes, the short stack is a huge portion! Weve never gone there & seen lots of open tables cause once you go, youll be planning on going back!
First off...the food itself is very good. And the restaurant is very modern and clean. Now...to the reason for my 2 stars. The regular coffee is extremely bland. My wife and I both agreed on the decision to ask the waitress for the witches brew (dark roast), and even that was really bland. Cant have a good breakfast without home coffee. Then...the older gentleman who walks around and wipes off the tables...he was wiping off a table next to where I was sitting so quickly that the food left on the table that he did not actually wipe up ended up bouncing off the back of my head and ear. I immediately addressed it with him and he apologized, but that has never happened to me in 46 years. But I guess there is a first time for everything.
Tucked away in a line of store fronts, you could easily miss it when you drive by. Ray’s restaurant is definitely worth experiencing. Once you do, you’ll go back again and again. They feature homemade breads, soup, and a variety of delicious food. They are open for breakfast and lunch (not dinner) but you can order breakfast items up until they close around mid afternoon. Ray’s has a comfy diner atmosphere. The staff treats you like an old friend they’ve know for years and are genuinely welcoming. Overall great little hidden gem of a restaurant. Their breakfast is delicious like what you’d get at grandma’s. We always have a great experience at Ray’s. Would highly recommend!
The restaurant itself was very nice, clean open Airy Lodge Pleasant to be dress was extremely friendly and very helpful, we liked her a lot. The food was decent, I didnt particularly like the corned beef hash, mostly because it wasnt hash it was just corned beef and potatoes. Maybe thats just my preference though. Eggs were okay, hash browns needed to be cooked more. Giving a 4-star instead of a 3-star because it could just be our preference with the food, and maybe different selections would have been better for us. But overall we enjoyed being there.
Today was the first time I tried this restaurant, and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time! The food was priced perfectly, and the portions were large. Our server was very sweet! The only thing I’d recommend to the staff is to make sure the customers are completely done before putting the check on the table. Other than that, I will be back very soon!
We were there for a birthday brunch for about 25 people, in the back room, and it was very nice. Food was fresh and flavorful, service was delightful and, overall, the place was very clean and bright. Ive been there for lunch before and have found it to be very accessible for someone in a wheelchair, scooter or mobility impairment. Heres the birthday girl!!
Food was good. Hostess was exceptionally rude. We went for Easter Breakfast, had made a reservation and still has to wait for our table. After we were done eating the hostess was pressuring us to leave very quickly, it was a party of 8 and we have been seated less than 45 minutes. While we were waiting for my grandmother to return from the restroom the hostess came to tell us we had to leave as she had another table waiting. She was not polite or kind in how she said it, and very abrupt in kicking us out.
We tried Rays for the first time. I have to say the omelet and sandwich we had were very good. Our disappointment was with the weak and cold coffee. I asked our very sweet waitress to please refill my cup and heat it up in the micro. She said we just made a fresh pot so Ill give you a fresh cup, sadly it was still weak and not very hot.I asked for cinnamon rolls to go.....a huge disappointment...maybe because I make them better? They were way too airy, chewy, and lacked substance and flavor. While overall we liked the diner despite the cinnamon rolls and coffee. My biggest complaint is the creepy guy drying dishes that kept lurking out checking out the patrons. The creepiness of that gives me no reason to go back or recommend.
ALWAYS have great food and service here. VERY clean and super atmosphere. Simply the absolute best breakfast in town hands down. ******Update: our last visit to Rays was highly upsetting. On a VERY busy day when the waitresses were hustling constantly. The owner of the restaurant belittled and berated one of the waitresses at at table full of customers. This is not only unacceptable behavior it is rude and degrading. If you as a business owner have issue with an employee take care of it in private!! Do not treat hard working people with such disrespect there in front of a restaurant full of customers. This horrid behavior has made me question if I will ever return here. I dont pay for such disgusting, infantile behavior.
Very nice place with home style breakfast, the meals seem like what you would make at home. The flavors are great, the jam comes in small containers and tayses good. The prices are really good with a hearty amount of food. We were traveling and met some friends here for breakfast, very pleasant staff. This is a place we would recommend to friends and family. This is also a place we would visit again while in the area. The location is nice, just outside of the city limits. The areahas lots to see if you love nature and outdoor adventure. Situated just a short ways away from the finger lakes.
The Rays Waffle was good, as was the rustic breakfast sandwich but the true disappointment came with the service and the cinnamon rolls. The waitress was highly rude as well as smelly. Her smell made my hunger dissipate and when I asked what a menu on the item was she told me a very short abrupt statement that anyone could have understood by the title and treated me like I was a retarded toddler. I would NOT recommend this for a family meal; or if you wish to be treated with obnoxiously low respect. About half of the food is good but the rest is nasty, highly over sold, and looks much better than it tastes. The only perk of coming here is the interior decor as well as some of the food and is not worth your money or time. Please dont waste any amount of anything at this retched place.
Impressed! My first visit here for lunch today and it wont be my last. My sister and I both had the veggie burger and fries and both were great! Its got a neat atmosphere, the waitress was friendly and responsive, we got good, quick service, and the food was really good. The burger was great and fresh burger fixins, too - and the fries were the best! The homemade ranch was okay but more liquidy than were used to with the store bought stuff. Yummy hot sauce at the tables, too.Too bad theyre not open later in the day, but next time I consider Tom Wahls for a meal out, unless its for supper, were coming here instead! Glad my sister chose this place today! :)
First time there...unfortunately I was not impressed. I have never written a review on any restaurants, but this time because Im local, felt the need. Breakfast was....blah.Ordered the Scott omelet, WAY to much meat, not enough egg, no flavor. Asked specifically for xtra crispy hash browns, came out barely cooked. Im sorry, but dont think Ill be back anytime soon. Also WAY to loud, acoustics deafing, couldn hear a darn thing for conversation. Did tip,but not as much as I would have...not waitresses problem.
A genuine food factory. The food itself is pretty good, however the service itself is severely lacking. Waitresses were rude and obviously try to push customers out as quickly as possible. This establishment owes its success more to the lack of other breakfast places on this side of town rather than on the merits of its quality and service.
After having great experiences eating at the restaurant, I hired Rays to cater a Chamber of Commerce event my employer was hosting. We could not have been happier with the food at our event! Everything was fresh, hot and unique. Erica even managed to bring the awesome environment the restaurant offers to our event with her accessories and linens. We got tons of compliments. I would absolutely recommend Rays! Great food, atmosphere and service!
My first and last experience at Rays was about a year ago. It was great catching up with my long time friend! Restaurant had very a cute decor. But it was hard to pay much attention when they had the heat off.. It was freezingggg in there! My omelet was cold and had a hair in it. Definitely wasnt my hair as it was a different color and length. If everything had been warm; we would have had a different (better) experience.
First time (wont be the last), dining here, and was greeted warmly and seated. Service was fast and friendly! Vey, very clean and felt right at home. Our lunch party ordered a turkey BLT, a Reuben sandwich, and eggs with hash browns and toast. Did not take long at all, was hot, freshly made and delicious!! Prices are very fair and portion sizes are larger!! May even go there again today! GREAT PLACE AND WOULD HIGHLY RECCOMMEND!
I had a reservation for 7, 1 of which was handicapped and the table they gave us wasnt handicapped accessible which when I spoke to erica the owner to make the reservation she was well aware of, they did finally seat us. We understood that they were busy and they brought 2 meals out, 10minutes later they brought 4 more. They came back with coffee refills 5 minutes later and I asked when the 7th order was coming and the owner erica said she had forgot and she would take it off the bill. 5 or more minutes passed and erica came back slammed the dish on the table. A few more minutes passed and erica returned with check slamming that in front of my handicapped father in law and walked out the door slamming the door. The food was good but we were extremely disturbed by the way the owner erica treated us. There are 7 customers who will not return to this establishment and we will certainly make it be known to others of our experience. Worst service I have ever received.
Drove a half hour to try their Monte Cristo sandwich. Ive been searching everywhere for a place in Rochester that has one done right, battered and deep fried. Although their menu describes it as such it was served with french toast like you sometimes see. Although that was very good, was still very disappointed as was my father on fathers day. Please change the menu to be accurate or do it right.
I was in here for lunch today, and will not go back again.i may go for breakfast but not lunch. Service was poor,We waited 25 minutes before any one came to take our order, then blamed it on the other waitress. My daughters eggs were wrong, my sons sandwich was wrong, my home fries were cold and my French ONION SOUP WAS HORRIBLE, They probably got the clue when I left them a very little tip.

2022-05-15Friendly staff and delicious food. We were there for lunch on a Sunday however other people were ordering breakfast of French toast, etc and that also looked delicious. I had the French dip and it was so good. My son had a plain burger and it was gone by the time I could get my phone out to capture a pic. Husband had the turkey club who said that was also good. Smell of Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters blends upon walk in was heavenly. Like they do specialty coffees here as well. Everyone should visit for a great breakfast and lunch.

2022-05-29Excellent. Best Omelet I have had in awhile. Cooked all the way through without being dry. Pancakes where nice and fluffy not sweet but good. They had homemade jelly which I really liked. Not overly sweet like most homemade jams. Hot sauce is made in Naples. Waitress was so friendly and helpful. I included pictures of the menu. I consider their food to be upscale from most diners at a reasonable price. Will definitely dine here again. Definitely a Gem in Canandaigua.

2022-05-07First impressions: like the TARDIS; bigger on the inside than what you can see from the outside. The serving staff are young and efficient.Very busy for breakfast when we went. The menu is varied and unique.I had the chipped beef on toast which Ive never seen offered anywhere else.Food served in a reasonable amount of time. The presentation was good and the food was an acceptable temperature and quite delicious.Portions were not particularly generous for the cost; but they had a lot of servers and the decor was pleasant.I noticed a good mix of ages among the clientele.

2022-04-25As always, Rays never disappointed me! Coffee... awesome, service is ways awesome and the food is great! My kids (all 3 ages 6,8,10) have been working on manners and ordering their own food and beverages. The wait staff was so patients and worked with them and us in the process. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food! Love it here

2022-01-28As. A treat for our residents in the cold of winter we placed a take out order for 18 meals for pickup for the Assisted Living facility where I work. Every order was correct. The hot food was hot and the cold food was fresh. Placing the order was easy by phone and each order was individually labeled. The residents enjoyed choosing from the menu and the staff enjoyed it too! Great job, Rays!

2022-02-27By far the best breakfast experience in the chosen spot. The servers are amazing. The food never disappoints. I have been coming for years and today we had a literal angel as our server. I wish I could remember her name, she deserves a raise.

2022-05-25Went on a Sunday morning. Not much of a wait to start, but while waiting we saw that they had won a couple awards for amazing breakfasts. I got the California Eggs Benedict, which wasnt bad, but the eggs were not poached, but more closely related to a hard boiled egg... which was kinda disappointing since you pay $14 for it. But it was busy and I was starving so it got eaten. Our server was a very friendly and happy young man that was great at what he did, and seemed to know a lot of the patrons. The place had a very comfortable and relaxed feeling, full of people from a tight knit community that likes to smile. We will definitely go back, and Ill just get something else, maybe something they won an award for.

2020-07-13Our family visited Rays for breakfast while camping in the area. All of us were impressed with the menu and specials, which were creative and homemade. Our food was hot, fresh and delicious. All of us (which is rare) agreed that we would certainly eat at Rays in the future. Excellent experience, highly recommend.
