South Bay Marine services• Went to SBM explained that I wanted to repower replacing both engines and transmissions. Asked if they needed to inspect my boat for pricing. Pat Dolan accurately described my boat. Said he was very familiar with the SeaRay 415AC and wouldnt have to look at the boat.• Was given an estimate for $47k. Asked specifically. Is this engines and transmissions?Pat Dolan said Yes• Asked how long it would take.Was told 2 weeks total.• June 15th towed the boat to SBM.• Week 3 was told Transmissions are not included in price. and that I needed almost $7k more for transmissions.• Was made an offer by Pat Dolan that he would acquire 2 new transmissions at $3,700 each. He would buy one if I would buy the other.• Told them that the deal was for the complete package. Would concede to them having a total rebuild of my existing transmissions if they were compatible with the new engines but the rebuild cost was on them.• Week 5, Transmissions rebuilt...• Week 8 Informed that rebuilt transmission on Starboard engine blew-up on WOT bay test.Also Velvet drives wont work on these engines.• Directed SBM to cease all work on the boat.• SBM removes the faulty transmission without authorization.• Week 9 SBM, Pat Dolan offers to procure 2 remanufactured Hurth ZF 63a transmissions at $3,000 each and that he would buy one if I bought one.NOTE: These transmissions cost $2,700 apiece over the counter NEW.(Marine engines & transmissions, Deer Park)• Week 10 August 19th Contacted SBM and notified them that I will be at their facility on Tuesday, August 23rd with a check for $3,500 to pay them what I owe them, that I wanted to see the engines start, want documentation that I own the engines, the factory warranties and that a marine tow company would be there at 9 AM to remove my boat.• Week 11 August 22, Called SBM, spoke to Pat Dolan to confirm that I would be there to collect my documentation, pay him and tow my boat out the next day. His response. Ok, see you then.• August 23, 0730hrs. Arrive at SBM. My boat is out of the water. Wait for SBM staff to arrive. Ask whats going on? Am told they cant put my boat in the water until 3 P.M. high tide. Ask where are my documents? Pat Dolan says I dont have them Artie does. I ask when Artie will be there. He says around 9 A.M. (45 minutes).Contacted Reynolds Towing and was informed that he couldnt provide a tow at 3 P.M.Contacted Sea Tow in Freeport who could make the tow.Artie shows up at 9 A.M..Show him that I have a bank check for $3,500 which I will give to him once I see the engines run.2:30 P.M. Returned to SBM to see my boat had just gone in the water. Am told the engines are warrantied but warranty does not begin until the boat is bay tested. Called Mercury in Wisconsin to confirm. Also we had to wait to see the engines run because the Starboard engine starter was not installed.After the starter was installed viewed the engines start and run.• Towed my boat home.• Towing cost $1,750. (Boat US wont pay for a tow home from a repair facility.)• TOTAL COST $52,250. Have a boat with 2 new engines and no transmissions. ONLY took 11 weeks!--Sent from Fast notepad

2021-07-25Ive had the guys at South Bay marine service my boats in the past and was always happy and this time was no different. But this time i was removing my engine and drive and having them install it on another boat. They made sure that everything was safe and in working order before they let me take it. Even got daily updates from Tim as the boat got close to being launched.Very pleased with the mechanical work that Kenny has done. 5 stars all the way.

2022-05-24Ive never been treated more like family by any business than by Tim and his guys at South Bay. That may sound over the top but over the top is how they have treated me the last couple years Ive used them for service and winter storage for my boat. Cant say enough about how good they are.

2016-06-07Artie and his services have been great to me over the last few years of owning my boat. I am very used to doing my own work and I would rarely approach someone about touching my boat but I am glad I came to Artie and his team when I finally had to. They are knowledgeable and friendly among quite a few good qualities I can name but overall they stand by their work and wont let you down. Artie makes my boating season come and go with great ease and no issues and I wouldnt have it any other way. The seasons are short if you want your boat to run great for the entire duration go see Artie and his guys down at the yard.

I feared the worst when I called and spoke to Artie about getting my boat running, but his professional approach and his ability to explain the issues in language I could understand gave me comfort in trusting that he and his team were the right people for the job. I was not disappointed - Artie, Pat and the rest of the team exceeded my expectations - the price and time estimates were spot-on and I am one happy boater!

2016-06-13I contacted South Bay Marine upon the recommendation of a friend, and it is quite possibly the best action Ive taken since purchasing my boat.After purchasing a 2006 Maxum with extremely low engine hours, I initially experienced a minor problem (worn drain plug) that Artie and his team fixed in the blink of an eye (note - he diagnosed the problem while on the phone...) Amazing, considering the time of year and the busy nature of the industry due to the weather this year. Upon inspection, he made some additional recommendations on basic maintenance required (oil change, filters, fuel separators) but not performed. I was under the impression that Spellmans Marine (where I purchased the boat) handled all of those issues; that was far from the case. Without South Bays assistance, Id probably be stranded somewhere in the Great South Bay...Around the same time, my engine overheat alarm began to sound. I was a little concerned, based on the conversation I had about engine maintenance (and lack thereof) to this point. Visited South Bay again, and they diagnosed the problem nearly instantly. As suspected, the aforementioned broker/marina did NOTHING prior to my boat purchase - Artie & Co. at South Bay once again diagnosed the engine issues, and performed the proper fixes. In addition, I picked up the boat in a week - amazing time, considering the amount of work and time of year. I have taken the boat out twice since the repair - best it has run so far!!!South Bays staff really is like no other. They are diligent, intelligent, timely, honest (a rarity it seems) and realistic. Furthermore, the staff take the time to discuss and visualize your boats issue(s) IN DETAIL. So much as there will be no ambiguity, whatsoever. While unfortunate that I purchased a boat without the proper maintenance performed (after sitting for some time), I gained an incredible and trustworthy business relationship.I cannot recommend South Bay Marine enough. Given the frustrating and disappointing stories that I, and probably many of us, hear about in the repair world, it is refreshing and reassuring to know that a business and staff like this exist.

2016-09-06I recently had my SeaRay re-powered at South Bay Marine. These guys got the job done ahead of schedule and addressed every issue they came across while getting the job done. I have been dealing with them for the last three years and have never had an issue. They do exactly what they say they are going to do when they say they are going to do it. Artie and staff are extremely knowledgable and courteous. I strongly recommend using South Bay Marine for all of your boating needs.
