Great service and great food. The grilled octopus is perfectly tender and moist. We will definitely order it every time when we dine there. This restaurant offers outdoor dining in both their backyard and front door. We preferred the backyard one, it’s quiet and relaxing. The only suggestion to this restaurant is that they could work on the presentation of their food which would align to the taste.
Excellent everything. Service. Food. Atmosphere. True family restaurant. All respecting COVID guidelines. Food was out of this world. We were four. We had the best fried eggplants. Stuffed mushrooms. Greek salad. Green beens. Red snapper. Sword fish. Lamb souvlaki. Calf liver with onions. This was only the second time in over a year that we were in a restaurant and it felt so good. So grateful for the vaccine. So grateful for places like this one.
Have great food! Love the octopus a lot! Amaze me from Greek food. Great lamp, rib steak and the seafood combo. But we were a little upset with the female server that blame us with her mistake. One of the male server who give us a wrong dish, and the female server come immediately blame on us why do we take that extra dish. .....?? What??Try to treat your customers with the right manner.
The place was nice painting were beautiful.we ordered the large Greek salad, and seafood combination.the seafood was good for a 33 dollar plate!!But the Greek salad, which was mostly tomatoes and Cucumber was a disappointment and for 14 dollars without tax was a bit too much, and their were only 3 olives inside the whole salad.but over all I give this place 3 out of 5 stars just because the seafood was decent!
Although the food is very good, the wait staff is obnoxious. Be ready to be questioned about the amount of tip you leave for the service they provide. If it’s not generous or to their satisfaction, they will call you out on it. I think it’s disgusting to put a paying customer on the spot like that just because they are greedy. A tip is not law to be obligated to pay a mandatory 20%. Wth did they do, perform surgery?!!I will think twice about patronizing this place!Beware of disgusting staff!!I have witnessed this with 2 other customers as well!
Really an incredible selection of Greek / Mediterranean fares in a cozy restaurant setting. I really have to say, the octopus and sardines wowed me away, as you could literally pull the meat off the sardines by dragging the bones out of your mouth, and melt the octopus on your tongue. Im impressed by the range and depth of flavor in all these dishes and cant wait to come back for more!
Came here on Greek Independence day with another couple. It was very crowded for an early Sunday night seating. The crowd was families and groups and couples. The loudness was pretty high at times and we had to tell at each other to make conversation. Im sure that this was partly due to the crowd but also the density of the seating and the very sound reflective ceiling. How was the food? Great. We each had different entrées and shared three appetizers and veggies. Photos Attached to this review list each of the names.I enjoyed my ample portion and also the Retsina wine, which was served chilled, perfectly.I liked the fact that my friend ordered our meals in Greek right off the Greek language side of the menu. It was a bonus that the prices on the Greek side matched the prices on the English side. Thats a joke, right?
I love this place with all tasty food. I went with family and I ordered some Greek apetizers like eggplants, okra, mixed grilled veggies, artichokes, cauliflower,.Grilled shrimp and calamari. We got free dessert from the house so delicious. The waiter was standing there to check with us if we needed something.I recommend this place for anyone who wants to enjoy Greek cuisine.
I have been going in this place for years and I used to love it but this time my experience was not good at all .First, everything was cooked different from all the other times. The quantity of food was less than all the other times but the worst part was the waiter who was REALLY REALLY REALLY RUDE!
Stamatis is one of my favourite restaurants in Astoria! Why?It offers a variety of authentic greek dishes (especially moussaka which i love so much) and that greek vibe. The place is huge, they have indoor and outdoor, it fits over hundreds of people.Last night i went with 3 friends and we ordered:Greek salad, zucchini croquettes, dips, branzino, lamb, octupus and everything was on point. The service wasn’t as good as usual but no compains! I’ll definitely go back and would recommend you to try!!!
Always went here for the fantastic and traditional Greek food. My favorite thing to get here will always be the Souvlaki, it always comes out juicy and tender and it comes with more pita on top of what they serve for the table. My only complaint would have been the somewhat drab atmosphere, but they recently redid the place for an all around great experience.
The best restaunt but the delivery guy is very rude he didnt even. Other to call twice downstairs and my mom is handicap. He left the food to be cold outside. Thanks for nothing. We always order from you as a value customer ...you always forget to put the desert. Everytime you forget why ? We have told you many times and it should be included especially with a large order
Food was amazing! Never disappointed here. Staff was friendly, and able to suggest a delicious meal substitute because they didnt have what I wanted that day. Overly generous portions, served up with all the bread and dipping oil you can eat! Cant wait to go back! Parking isnt fun, but its NY, and not the restaurants fault.
Ive been going to Stamatis for many years - and most recently went with my husband and mom - for dinner, on a weeknight. Im Greek, so Im picky when it comes to Greek restaurants, but Stamatis never disappoints. They have outdoor and indoor dining (in a back garden area), tables are nicely spaced out, and everything is very clean. Our server (Mihalis) was excellent and immediately made us feel welcome. He made suggestions for the wine, and also made some food recommendations.Items Ordered:Saganaki Cheese - Perfectly pan fried, crispy, and tasty.Grilled Octopus - Absolutely delicious. Tender, soft, and very flavorful.Fried Calamari - Light, airy, flavorful, and crispy.Galeos (Baby Shark) with Rice - Perfectly grilled and tender, and rice was fluffy and delicious.Bifteki (Greek Style Burger) with Fries - Charcoal Grilled and very tasty. Fries were perfect. They also serve you toasted bread to start (which is excellent), and at the end of the meal give you a complimentary dessert (Galaktoboureko).Prices are in line with all other Greek restaurants in the area, and the portions are great.Overall a GREAT EXPERIENCE!!
I fly in and out of LGA so Im close to Astoria and can stop by here for great Greek food. I like to order several Greek dishes and share them so I can try a few things. The stuffed peppers and tomatoes, stuffed squash, eggplant, Greek potatoes, grilled octopus, Greek salad, its all wonderful.
What a delightful experience!!!This is one of those places that does not look impressive from the outside, likejust another restaurant on the blockBUT, once you cross the entrance to the interior dining room......thats where the magic begins, you are suddenly in Greece, the atmosphere is amazing, all the attendants are discretely watching for your needs. And of course, the food, those mediterranean flavors and combinations, going from fresh salads to very complicated fricassees, with such a delicate balance between earthy and fancy, hot and refreshing......this is really an amazing experience, l wouldnt be surprised if l see Grandma, coming out of that kitchen...The prices are really fair for the food and service you will receive, this is definitely a MUST if you are out for mediterranean food!!!WELL DONE STAMATIS TEAM!!!
My favorite restaurant in NY, period. I’ve been coming to eat at Stamatis for 30 years and have never had a bad meal or bad experience here. The food is terrific, the staff make you feel like family and the ambience is bright and inviting. My faves include the stuffed zucchini, avgolemono, the peas and artichokes, any of the fresh seafood prepared to order and don’t forget the lemony potatoes. Just go.
An honorable and longstanding establishment of quality Greek food has become a tourist trap. The food is cooked well but with little attention to quality or care - flavorless and without soul. Table service is perfunctory, without feeling and hurried. Pity. A gamble on any other Greek restaurant has better odds then the disappointment you’ll probably experience at Stamatis. Three stars only for the old times
Visited this great restaurant with my husband and two kids. Because of Covid we only had outdoor dining out front but I saw they have a beautiful backyard area to eat in as well. The food was delicious. My usual picky eaters loved everything, including the calamari and stuffed grape leaves. The portions were large. My two kids shared a chicken souvlaki platter. The staff was very attentive and friendly. They served fresh toast while waiting for our meal and a complimentary dessert afterwards. Will definitely be visiting again and hoping to sit in the green space in the back.
Excellent food and service! I ordered the roasted baby lamb and the grilled octopus, and it is the closest you can get Greece. Very authentic vibe and food. We were served right away and got our food 10 minutes after we ordered. Our requests were fulfilled whenever we asked for lemon, more bread or something else. Would recommend!
The Food is Amazing! In the past we take my grandmother there for dinner, since covid 19, have not been able to go.Last week we made trip for a take out. Had roasted baby lamb that I brought to my grandmother. Was delicious, lamb was tender, coming of the bone. We had with okra, well seasoned. Had also roasted chicken with lemon potatoes, was amazing. Chicken moist and potatoes great lemon flavor and well seasoned. .The restaurant has outdoor dining. It was worth the trip from Brooklyn to pick up food and they are always friendly. Love this place.
The WORST!!! The food was okay, But I saw a GIANT water bug crawling on the wall and the Staff treated it like this was OK, A regular occurrence, Not a big deal. Finally the thing fell to floor and one of the staff crushed it with a Cracking sound. EVERYONE saw it.The staff tried to explain that the Weather brought these things out. We are not at fault. No problem, they dont bite. No apology no adjustment to the bill no Nothing.I will NEVER, EVER go back here. EVER.
Fantastic service and friendly staff. Great choice of Greek food they were strict on the social distancing policies and set us up (5 people) in a separated corner at two tables with plastic dividers between us and other patrons. I hope they can stay open during the Christmas New Year period.
Astoria is full of greek restaurants and seafood is everywhere. We enjoyed the grilled seafood and the service.Even their olive oil was delicious. The air conditioning could be improved on such a hot day today the humidity interfered with the experience .Will bring my fan next time lol.
Horrific food, rude waiters. I ordered lamb chops medium. They were so over done and burned to a point of not edible. They were cut so thin, that some didnt even have a bone.. they looked like dog scraps. Two of my friends ordered the same and got the burned chops as well. We asked for them to take all 3 orders back. I wanted to order a fish or anything else at that point. They told me the kitchen is closed. They did however bring new lamb chops for all 3 of us. This time they were bleeding. Still cut into weird dog scraps though. No salt. For the money we were paying, please have the deceny to serve whole lamb chops and for gds sake put some salt on em.
Stephan from Athens made us feel welcome. The portions are generous! The Avgolemono soup was divine. Taramosalata was rich. The Spanakopita was a large square served with a serrated knife to cut the phylo. The Moussaka was worth going there alone. It was layers of eggplant, potatoes ground beef and a rich bechamel that was browned in the oven. Enough for two really. I had a black Sea Bass with oven browned lemon potatoes. Fresh! Fillleted! Galaktomboriko and a Greek coffeebrought by Aurelio who wrapped up everything.we couldnt finish. Epic!A wonderful experience.
While I must say that the food was excellent, some of the waitstaff have a very nasty attitude towards patrons. I ordered the seafood platter, which includes crab legs (per the menus description), and when I questioned my server, he said, rather snottily, that It doesnt come with it. If so, why does the menu say that it does? This has happened several times. Also, I was there with my family last week. At the end of our meal, they usually serve galaktoboureko as a complementary dessert. The waiter approached us and said that he was sorry, but they had run out. On the way out, we saw the dessert tray, which had galaktoboureko. I asked for the owner, but someone claiming to be the owners grandson said he wasnt in. When I complained to him, he told me that thats the tray that they sell to outside customers. What a lie - why would someone go to a restaurant just to buy dessert? If they needed the table for other customers they should have said so. Its not about the dessert, its about the ethics.I am very disappointed with how we were treated. I wont be going there again, and I would not recommend this restaurant to others.
Amazing authentic greek cuisine! Good portions for great value! Quality food cooked right there in front of you! Give it a try either as a tourist in Astoria or as a local! I speak as a Greek that visited New York so I can definitely compare the food with that in Greece or what I cook. Great, simple, friendly people. I did not pay attention to the decor but it looks like a traditional greek tavern and that was enough for me.
The best Greek cuisine in NY! Excellent from A to Z ❤️❤️❤️5 stars is the least you can give for the friendly and warm service Andreas was beyond wonderful we wanted him to join us! The grilled Octopus was perfect, the grilled Porgy was delicious and the lemon potato was out of this world! We ended our meal with the MUST HAVE Galatibouriko and Greek coffee, and we were in awe. Will be back for sure this brought us back to the amazing time we spent in Cyprus!
Excellent food and very nice owners that are elderly but still walk around and work their tails off! This is true old school Greek done right. The service was a bit slow, however being it was my 1st time here Im going to attribute it to the fact that it was quite busy when I came. Overall a great place with a lively atmosphere and the most authentic Greek fare to be had! Amazing place!
I was recommended this place bc of the great Greek food but I didn’t expect such poor dining experience to come with it. I will start by saying I am aware of how hard it’s been during pandemic times and having restaurants cater to customers outside but I felt that what I experienced was deliberate. I asked for a table for 2 and was seated in a nice spot on the corner with my partner and waited over 25 minutes for menus. I had to get up and ask for them since it was as if we were being ignored by ALL the staff. After another 15 minutes we receive bread and water. Our waiter came to greet us and ask what would we like to drink and we were fine with water but wanted straws. It took another 10 minutes for straws. We ended up ordering food afterwards which was a Greek salad with chicken and a chicken slovaki platter. That took about 20 minutes to make and serve. The food was tasty and delicious. We ate our meal in 30 minutes but afterwards we were left there for another 35-40 minutes. I had say out loud we needed a to go box and a check. Keep in mind my partner and I have made eye contact with our waiter for 45 minutes and he knew we were finished by us just sitting there. We were looking at ppl who sat after us getting their food earlier and leaving faster than we were. I will say my partner and I were the only interracial couple there and started to make me wonder if that was reason for the poor service. When I asked my waiter for the box, a runner gave me the box and eventually the waiter came to our table in which we said we would like the check and he was very serious and said that he wants to give us a complimentary dessert in which we declined. To be honest I feel as though he knew he messed up but couldn’t even apologize and own his energy, he just said no wait for the complimentary dessert. My partner said no to the dessert bc we had enough waiting. We paid and left. We walked by the waiter and he didn’t even wish us a good night. Never eating here again.
Havent had Greek for a while and was encouraged to get up to Astoria and try it. Picked this place based on its menu and reviews and dont regret it for a second. The service was friendly, efficient and the food was amazing. From the dips at three beginning to the saganski to the lamb souvlaki, lemon potato side, and Greek salad were all perfect and all so tasty. The complimentary dessert was very welcome. An enjoyable meal.
Wonderful food AND service!Despite being very traditional they were able to work with my husbands allergies. Another waiter had to confirm but overall service was excellent. He has the top 8 allergies and ordered lamb and potatoes for which they used olive oil and lemon. The rest of the table enjoyed antipasto sampler, grilled octopus 🐙, and spinach pie, plus entrées. Its bustling and lively but the waiters are right there when you need them.
The food is ok nothing special. Honestly Ive had better Greek food elsewhere. Although the place is a fair size theyve tried to maximize the space by creating a rather crowded atmosphere. The tables are situated so close to each other you can barely move or sit down let alone get up from your table comfortably which I wouldnt have minded so much had the food been worth it. We sat for a good 15/20min before our server came over and that was only because I waved down another server who was in my view. And even then he was about to send someonelse over until my beautiful daughter caught his attention as well and he decided to rush over himself instead....need I say more. My husband ordered the shark fish with lemon potatoes but he did not get the lemon potatoes because they ran out. What the gave him in place of the potatoes was some kind of mushy eggplant slop! How does a true Greek restaurant run out of lemon potatoes by 9/9:30pm? Lemon potatoes are the absolute staple of a Greek meal! I would not go back to Stamatis nor would I recommend it to others. Ill stick to my beloved Taverna Kycaldes.
It is a simple (not fancy) greek restaurant, where the food is fresh (try the fish!) and cooked on the grill or using very few and simple ingredients. I appreciate it lot because for me that is a sign of good quality. You get to really taste the fish or meat without the addition of thick and fat souce. Grilled octopus was one of the best I ever had. I will go back!
Looking for good Greek food in Astoria, the Greek community of NYC? Dont think about that rude fish store, but come to Stamatis only a block from the train. The food is delicious. The servings are big. The staff is friendly and helpful. The price is right (not high, not low).My experience over the years living in Astoria has always been good. I dont get an attitude of you arent Greek. I dont have to stand in a miserable line to have rude waiters. This is my choice for visitors to my neighborhood, for tourists to NYC, for recommendations for a local restaurant.
I usually love the food there, and can forgive the slow service. But last time, in a busy holiday, they were way to slow and pretended not to see us asking for service. The seafood combination was not well seasoned and missed some items. The lemon potatoes were molten and deformed. And the lamb had no seasoning at all. After this, we decided to change our celebrations preferred place.
This is one of my favorite restaurants to get Greek food. I trust this place enough to bring my parents here for food. The food tastes amazing and authentic, and the service is outstanding. One more thing. I was wonderfully impressed when a party of disabled individuals came in, and how well the staff catered to them.
I have been coming this this place for many years, from back when they were in the old building across the street. The quality of the food is still great. They have a very full menu as well. Its authentic Greek taverna style food at a reasonable price. The service can sometimes be a touch slow, but thats part of Greek culture where they establishment is not trying to rush you out to turn over the table. The pace of the meal is supposed to be relaxed.
By far the best authentic Greek food in New York that my Greek family and I have had. Everything is delicious from the tzatziki all the way to the lamb, fish, and more! The food tastes so fresh and the customer service is fabulous every single time. I am very picky about where I go to eat and this place never fails to deliver excellence.
Stamatis is wonderful. The owner greeted us and thanked us for being there. She was working just as hard as the staff and the food was outstanding. Prices much less than we expected. Great family atmosphere. Someone had a birthday and when the cake came out the whole dining room broke out in song.
I have been coming here for decades for authentic Greek food, which is consistently very good. Large portions and reasonably priced. I just had the lamb fricassee.. Absolutely delicious. They offered warm galaktobouriko - custard with syrup and cinnamon.. Strongly recommend it..
The food there is amazing, they have so many plates that is hard to choose but doesnt matter what you order it never disappoints. Plus their personnel is always attentive and give you recommendations. They have valet parking which in the area is a great plus. Great place to indulge yourself into Greek cuisine.
One of the better Greek restaurants in nyc. This authentic restaurant is family owned, most of the people speak Greek and the cooking is just like home made. Service is not always consistently outstanding. I enjoyed just about everything Ive had there and they are reasonably priced.
This is the 2nd time I have eaten in this establishment and its a great experience each time, my favorite dish is the the shrimp with orzo and feta. The appetizer dishes are delicious and the quality and authentic Greek cuisine truly hits home. Greek wife approved. You wont be sorry with this choice.
Visited with some family members not too long ago. It is a popular place especially on weekends so there may be a bit of a wait they serve authentic Greek appetizers and food that is freshly prepared so it may take a while to reach the table. I particularly enjoyed the fish. Parking can be difficult so take advantage of the valet service.
Thank you Mr. Stamatis! I was referred by my Theo Nick in Bay Ridge and Mr. Stamatis was very accommodating! We didnt get to eat as we had just ate but we sat for a beer and the wait staff were all incredibly friendly, abundant and acknowledging! The decor was quite beautiful! I cant wait to try the food here as I can only imagine the quality of food based upon the service we received!
One of the best restaurants in Astoria. I was very impressed with the service, from the moment we walked in. They welcome you warmly. The waitress was very polite and made sure we enjoyed the food. The food was excellent. The wine was house wine (On the house). Desert was (on the house) delicious. The ambiance was great. Place was very clean. My experience was worth the while. Definitely recommend Stamatis. I will eat there again.
One of the best restaurants in Astoria. I was very impressed with the service. They welcome you warmly. The waitress was very very polite and made sure we enjoyed the food. The food was excellent. Desert was delicious!!!!. The ambiance was great. Place was very clean. My experience was worth the while. Definitely recommend Stamatis. I will eat there again and again!!!!.
My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for as long as I can remember!! My family and I drive from Nj just to get some octopus and tzatziki because it is that amazing (of course we get more things - but you get the point). Great food and service!!! Btw this is legit Greek food. It’s not another Greek to me!
Was there tonight , party of 3, the food was good , prices ok, however the atmosphere was inpersonal and cold. Our waiter hardly interacted with us and never came to check on how we were doing or to enquire about the food. The place was indeed crowded however he passed our table many times and said nothing. I am not sure I would go back to Stamatis and I have a feeling they wouldnt care.
Oopa! Authentic dishes. Loud, large, informal dining room hustling and bustling with staff serving couples, families and parties of all ages. Everything that came to the table was excellent. The red snapper was big enough to share and was moist and seasoned to perfection. The dips are amazing and the Greek salad was filled cucumbers, tomatoes, olives and fresh feta. The free Greek desert was an added treat. Were repeat customers and always look forward to our visits. the minus star is due to the ladies room.
Always freshly made, traditional Greek dishes. For us, the grilled fish, octopus and moussaka are the real specialties. Reliably flavorful Greek salad even in the dead of winter. Have the mezedes appetizer sampler with three dips, served with warm pita or grilled crusty bread doused in butter. Also the artichokes sauteed with green peas. The old Greek men and younger Greek waiters add an ajr of gruff authenticity that works perfectly with the wall murals of Greek harbors and whitewashed churches.
Pros: not bad but not great.Cons: everything could be better.Prices are high considering they don’t hit it out of the park. The salad looked sad and the lemon potatoes looked neglected.Grilled fish came out ok but it’s overpriced.Other than the above, the waiters seem to be ok as well. But honestly I wouldn’t visit this place again considering there are much better restaurants at their prices within walking distance.
The grilled octopus was superb, the best. the tops! Place is small, crowded, noisy and the waiters are on the move. Warm bread!. My chicken fricassee was a-okay, my husbands huge grilled shrimp fish (6 pcs.) was delicious. No room for dessert but they brought free mousse cake and cheesecake just the same! We had em wrapped.
Food is delicious, but verify what you ordered with what is actually served. We ordered eggplant papoutsaki and got eggplant moussaka. We ordered the roasted beef and was told they were out of it so we then chose the roasted lamb to be the same price, without realizing it until the bill came, they served the roasted BABY lamb which is $10 more. Waiter should have asked or clarified which we wanted instead of choosing the expensive one as was the moussaka a couple dollars more than the papoutsaki. The zucchini croquettes were very salty.Been there several times over the last 15 years and have sent many there from Pennsylvania, but did appreciate the sort of bait and switch this time on Sat. Sept. 21, 2019.
Roasted chicken and lemon potatoes were amazing. The tzaziki was perfectly flavored and the small Greek salad was big enough to share. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable and we were seated right away on a Friday. If youre looking for delicious, affordable Greek food, this is it.
Its like having an Easter feast with my parents back home.Traditional Greek food cooked like your grandma would make it.The quad of dips was very tasty and served with pita bread. Saganaki cheese is a must with its crispy exterior and gooey interior.Lamb souvlaki was tender and seasoned well with oregano and lemon. The Greek salad is a great addition to the meal.Free dessert of Galatobouriko was a great surprise!Well priced for excellent Greek food.
Excellent experience. We came down from Toronto for our first wedding anniversary and decided to spend some time in the company of fellow Greeks. The food was the best weve had. I had the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly. My wife had the freshest gyro shes ever had. The wait staff, especially our friend from Kalamata Panos, are friendly and quick to handle any request. We highly recommend Stamatis!
When I go out, I like good food and good service. At Stamatis, the food was good, particularly the grilled octopus appetizer, and the unique nest (stewed beef inside of baked spaghetti, covered with cheeses and yogurt sauce) . Everyone else seemed to enjoy what they had (although an order of lamb chops was slighly overcooked). The service was another thing all together. Poor, poor service
Really enjoyed coming here for mothers day. It was crowded but got a seat quickly. The waiter was very nice but did not bring the pita for the tzatsiki for for a while, the same for the half carafe of wine, which came when entree was served. Beside that, the food was excellent! The papoutsaki (eggplant, chopped meat, tomatoes and feta) was delicious. The chicken souvlaki was cold and sent back, but the next one was cooked perfectly, grilled nicely, moist and flavorful. The lemon potatoes were some of the best. Definitely an overall good experience and will return despite minor inconveniences.
Holy mackerel this place is amazing. I have been going here for 15 years, since i lived in Astoria, but now I trek out there religiously because the food at Stamatis is still spectacular. The Shrimp Saganaki, not to be confused with the Saganaki appetizer, is the star of the show. Shrimp in a tomato and feta sauce that you just want to drink, its so good. Next up are Lemon potatoes, taramosalata, and peas and artichokes. Finally, and this will seem out of left field, but try the spaghetti and meat sauce. Its sublime. Best spaghetti ever. The atmosphere is warm and vibrant and inviting and Stamatis and Anna are always around to make you feel at home.
I love everything about this place, food, wine, service, best entrees are the lamb fricase, the nest, the fried cod with skordalia and the whole bronzini broiled and seasoned. best apps are the fried zucchini, fried smelts, saganaki or the grilled octopus. 100% every time.
Excellent. Grilled salmon was perfect. Good charred flavor and tender, thick cut. Flavored with olive as expected. Lamb souvlaki was also just right. Delicious, just slightly pink center, with a generous heap of tzatziki, lettuce and tomato. Pastitsio was rich and tasty. Sides were good too, especially the garlicky eggplant salad.
Im sharing my review on behalf of my father and uncle. I would like to preface my review by informing the reader that I pride myself on customer service. I am a firm believer you can always make a bad situation better by intently listening to the problem and providing a viable solution thats a win-win! Well as you will see, it was not the case at Stamatis! They had lunch on 4/19/19. My fathers dish, gemista was good but the lamb my uncle ordered was not! It was so tough that it could not be eaten so he left it. They brought their dissatisfaction to the waiters attention, who called over the manager. The manager responded by telling my uncle to order baby lamb next time! Overly presumptuous if you ask me! Did it even occur to the manager to take the lamb charge of $28 off the bill?! Hmm...did he stop to think about how fast bad customer service travels through the word-of-mouth chain? If this situation was handled the right way, I wouldnt have heard about it at the Palm Sunday luncheon today amongst 250 people! This type of handling is the reason why so many restaurants in Astoria/LIC are closing down! Take note!
Very aunthentic Mediterranian cuisine. Great place to dine with family and loved ones. They could accomodate groups of people. Food are freshly prepared. Love their octopus dish and mixed fresh salad. Looking forward to bringing some friends and other visitors next time.
Every time I feel like Greek cuisine, this is the place I take my family or out of town visitors. With the renovations the place became huge, but there still is a full on croud in this place. And thats how you know that the food is always fresh. To top it, the taste of it is awesome. Highly recommanded.
Very authentic greek food. The owners (husband and wife) have a tendency to just meet and greet instead of actually checking to see if the service is running smoothly. Food used to be way better. Word of advice from a person thats been eating there for 40 years: dont go there at its peak hours of dinner service cause the food wont be as good and youll spend a lot of time trying to find the waiter when you need something. I would recommend going around 3p.m to 6p.m. Im sorry stamatis but you just cant handle large crowds. But... if youre looking for good quality greek food, stamatis (not kyclades which i find overrated) is the place to go to.

2021-11-21Was recommended this restaurant by a friend and I’m here to pass the recommendation to anyone on Google! Really spacious, classic Greek-restaurant atmosphere with delicious, family-style food. We ordered the Grape Leaves (best I’ve had), Fried Squid, Fried Cheese, Stuffed Cabbage, and a 1.5 lbs Red Snapper. We cleared our plates because it was so good! Although the staff is often busy, their service was friendly and very accommodating. Pita and dessert is included!

2022-01-11🐟GREEK FOOD IN ASTORIA, Queens ny - @Stamatis.Restaurant / @stamatis.restaurant.astoria🚗Wanted to explore more of Astoria while we stayed in long island city. This area is known for its Greek community, eaters, and cafes. Super walkable neighborhood and there are two main busy streets we have foundAfter a bit of wandering, we wanted outdoor seating and found Stamatis on the Google map with great reviews. I do have to say, I felt a bit out of place going into this restaurant as we were the only Asians 😅😅or even anyone other than GreekThats how legit this place was!The server was really nice and helped us navigate through their huge menu, recommended a few items:🦑Grilled octopus🐟Fresh sea bass🧀Saganaki (fried cheese)🐓chicken souvlaki platter with dandelions🍝Moussaka (egg plant, ground beef, onions, feta, & scallions with besamel cream)I think overall my favorite was the seafood (as usual). Made light with olive oil and herbs, not too heavy. The fried cheese was surprisingly good as it was recommended by the water. Crispy in the outside, melty inside. Thin cut , to be eaten with this red tomato 🍅 pasteInstead of the moussaka we were going to order the Nest. It had a beef stew in it but they ran out of that item. The moussaka was like your hearty lasagna without all the carbs . The eggplants and beef together makes the textures consistent but includes the earthy taste of eggplants. 2021-12-25Been coming here for the best Grilled octopus for over 15 years & this time it was made different. ☹️ It was cut up & not whole (like it had been in the past) and it had vinegar & was overcooked. Not sure if they changed chefs or recipes, but I was very disappointed. My mom & sister took me there for my birthday & well wasn’t as good as in the past 15 years thats why I gave 4 out of 5 stars. The, zucchini croquettes, salad lamb were very delicious.

2022-06-23Best greek restaurant in North America. Grandma cooked options or the standard Greek fare. Lots of seafood options as well. Mr. Stamati is just the sweetest man!!!

2021-09-04Eaten here many times and it never disappoints. Best to dine with 3 or 4 to order different apps or entrees to share. Fish and lamb are great. In Astoria so many Greeks who live here eat here. Across the 23rd Street is Mediterranean Foods probably the most extensive selection Greek olive oil and feta and everything that Greece has to offer. Will return as always

2021-07-12Huge restaurant with good service. The grilled octopus is the winner on the menu. The salads were bland and nothing ordinary. The vegetarian stuffed pepper with rice came with lamb?? The service and the staff is very friendly and accommodating which made up for the OK food.

2022-04-28Great Greek place in the heart of Astoria. Grilled octopus was awesome as was the grilled calamari. Lamb chops were good... A bit over done. Order 1 grade down. If you like med order med rare. Dessert was outstanding. Very attentive staff.

2022-04-18Stamatis used to be a great place to eat in Astoria. Not anymore. I consider myself a regular and the last few times we went the quality and quantity has gone down and the prices up. The last time we went I had the baby lamb. At $33 it was probably $8 a bite. Thin, salty and gone in 60 seconds. Plus they served it with lemon potatoes that looked more like oily mashed potatoes. The cod looked thick and rich but it was only a very thin layer of fish and the rest was batter. The calamari at $16 was not enough even for an appetizer. We also had fried zucchini and eggplant. Again, it used to be a nice platter not it’s just a small plate with just 3-4 small pieces each. Very disappointed with Stamatis. The search is on for a better restaurant.
