The Grove in other cities:
Just had lunch there, my husband had the thai chili wings - they were small but really good. I had the sunset salad - it was very good, although I would suggest serving it in a bowl, the plate it was served on was barely big enough for it and it was hard to toss it. Prices were reasonable, employees were all very kind
Giving 4 stars because theres definite potential, but Id like to see a little more thought and execution in regards of the food and menu.Imagination + delicious execution = thriving restaurant where customers keep coming back for more. Whats your signature? Whats going to make you stand out? are some example questions to keep in mind.Lettuce, tomato and pickles on every sandwich and burger is not going to make a restaurant stand out and can easily be replaced with more thought-out ingredients. Respectfully, the falafel burger for example: the falafel is great! but how about some arugula, pickled red onion, pico and a creamy cucumber ranch? Just some food for thought.I hope you can except my constructive criticism. I say it with utmost respect. I want to see you guys thrive.
Stopped in to check it out. The ambiance was rather bleak, and there were more flies, on our plates, than food, not to mention the water and soda tasted stagnant, probably need to clean the lines. Our server, Shauna, was excellent, but based on the food/drink, and ambiance, we most likely wont be back.
Nice bar, food pretty mediocre. The restaurant is very open and clearly has a nice space around the bar for standing. We also had a $6 jumbo margarita special. The drink was good, if a little slight on alcohol. This seems like a good bar to come hang out at.The food was wanting, however. I had the Grove burger and my spouse had the spicy chicken sandwich. Both were large, which was nice, on good sesame seed buns. The burger was oddly salty. The patty was also questionably flat and round, which made us wonder if it was frozen. The taste was juicy, though, and the toppings were decent. You mostly tasted the onion, mushroom, and cheese. The jalapeño was not coming through. Better burger than at 205 Dry (they have SUPER gristly meat), but not as good as The Shop or the old Colonial. The spicy chicken sandwich was not actually spicy. It was passable, but nothing to come back for.The french fries: clearly just frozen fries from a bag and undercooked. Not good. Unless you like undercooked McDonald’s fries, and then these are for you. Disappointing. So the space is ok, nice service, and probably is a fun bar space. The food isn’t anything we’ll go back for.
The food was okay, but most items were drastically overpriced. I had the bean salad which was basically just chopped romaine lettuce with some canned beans on top. Average size . . . like a generous side salad - not large, by any means . . . $21! A third of that price would have been closer to reasonable. I have to say, I left the place in shock for how much I paid for lettuce and a few canned beans! There are no descriptions of the items on the menu, so its a guessing game. I did ask our waitress about the bean salad, but she clearly didnt know what it was because what I received was not what was described. Id like the restaurant to thrive, because I love having such a variety of options in Binghamton, but I wont be returning unless there are some changes made.
I dont know about the friendly staff part. I guess you have to be Caucasian to get friendly service and the fact that no one of African American decent works there makes it even worse for me. Please have your staff put on some clothes and hire some minorities from the community. Were good enough to spend our money there but not good enough to be an employee. Will never enter this place again.
Given the great location and seemingly hip aesthetic (if a bit cold and austere), I was potentially excited about this new addition to downtown Binghamton. However, after one lunch, I cant imagine that Ill be back unless they make some huge changes. Their beer selection is absolutely abysmal (almost as if theyre completely unaware that craft beer exists, let alone how popular it is). More importantly, the food was among the worst quality Ive come across in Binghamton. The gray, gristly patty on my burger must have been supplied by the same people who make burgers for school cafeterias, and the unseasoned chicken breast in their fried chicken sandwich was inexplicably battered as if it were a piece of fish. The lack of descriptions on the menu is pretty ridiculous. I hate using QR codes for menus as much as the next guy, but that is a much better option than having to ask the waiter about every single item individually. However, the waitstaff we interacted with were great -- clearly trying to make the best of what they had to work with. The physical space has a lot of promise, but the current menu and execution are in no way commensurate with the vibe theyre going for. Also, I find it hysterical that some of the pictures of drinks in the reviews below clearly come from behind the bar!!
Honestly a great place to eat with the family, but an even better place to go out to drink with friends! A little pricey but the food is definitely worth it. They have speciality days where some of the food is cheaper but I don’t know which days; it’s on their Instagram @thegrovebing
Went here on a lunch date yesterday and the experience was not good. Menu has no descriptions whatsoever of what youre getting. Our food took about half an hour to come out- much too long considering there was only one other 2 top seated when we ordered. My falafel burger was tiny and burned, and my dates salad was completely drenched in house dressing, which as far as we could tell was about 80% vinegar. A large, loud party came into the bar during our meal, and since the whole place is one big room (with no decor besides plastic plants wrapped around a couple pillars), it quickly became way too loud to have a comfortable conversation. On top of that, there was loud music that kept randomly cutting in and out during our stay. The manager (I think?) came out to apologize about the music, blaming it on bad wi-fi. Im giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the waitress was as friendly and helpful as she could be, given the circumstances. If this place wants to compete for downtown restaurant dollars they have a lot of work to do!
Well decided to give it a shot, (restaurant wk lunch menu)..since living close to downtown...what a HUGE disappointment..the Pasta Primavera..was horrible..cheesy penne w spinach n mushroom...I suggest they do some actual research on the DISH...the grilled chicken Sandwich was just OK, friendly staff was welcoming and pleasant...Maybe take the restaurant wk, menu as an opportunity to bring in more loyal clientele, I realize its a challenge to provide a quality dish within a tight budget, but put some effort into it..Its YOUR reputation, you obviously did it with the nice ,clean and modern design of the restaurant-Bar.

2022-05-28Really need to figure out what theyre doing, and fast. I hope they can because its a great location and the staff are super nice. Food is overpriced and basic. Small portions of bland dishes. Fingers crossed for a quick turnaround.

2022-06-22Stopped here for lunch. Always enjoy trying new places. Very clean, nice bar, seems like a fun atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and attentive. So why the two star review? Well we came here to eat. And the food frankly sucks. Chicken wings should absolutely not be breaded. And they were. Just like Hooters. Terrible. And the burger we got was extremely bland and overcooked. Maybe because its a new restaurant they have to work out some kinks. However, with the plethora of good food options in Broome County, Ill take my money elsewhere. Shout out to Olivia for being a great bartender though.

2022-06-14The food and service were both great. I would recommend and buy from again. The food was not too salty and was perfectly seasoned. The prices were fair and the portions were very reasonable. Pick up was fast and efficient! Order was correct and I was very happy with everything ordered.

2022-06-13We tried The Grove last night for our 18th wedding anniversary. The server/host was so kind and accommodating. The bartender made amazing drinks. Our food took a LONG time and we were the only ones in the restaurant. When it arrived it looked horrible. The salmon was dry as a bone sitting on a bare plate with no greens and the vegetables came straight from a frozen bag. My husband’s food also looked like it came from a hospital cafeteria. For $27 entrees, people expect fresh vegetables. Two stars for the two stars (bartender and host), but the food deserves a zero.

2022-07-08Came for the first time on a Thursday night around 7pm. Averagely busy, greeted and seated quickly. First impressions were decor was good, could get a LOT more tables in if they wanted to and the table for two that we sat on was painfully small for two people. Note - No drinks on tap, cans and bottles only. Not entirely sure of the vibe they are trying to create, there are Fajitas and Quesadillas on the menu and they do a Tuesday special of $10 Fajitas but we were brought Salsa and chips after ordering, which let me be clear, I am not complaining about I just thought it was a little random. Wings you probably get 12 for $11 but they are small, think standard sized wing and half it. Chicken sandwich was fresh, good size and a solid portion of fries. I thought for 2 drinks, wings and 2 chicken sandwiches $46 was more than reasonable. There were 2 people working and towards 7:30/8 it started to get a little busier and they were a little rushed off their feet. Few things to note they could improve on - Table size, I dont want to be thinking about where I can move things to make it easy for me to eat. Hot Sauce - Asked for a side of hot sauce and expected it to be the same as what was on the wings, was given tabasco. Cheese - Not a big fan of cheese, didnt ask for it but came on the sandwich. Salsa - Asked for more Salsa so could finish off the rest of the chips with, it finally came but when it did the chips were gone, was said were going to be brought more chips but never came.Solid food, reasonably priced, would return.
