The Lite Bar is a very unique space. A top ten place to put on your to do list when visiting the UTB section(Under The Bridge) of The South Bronx. Its a Book Store in the front area and a Bar space in the rear, and in between you can set and relax, read, or just gather your thoughts in their wonderful seating area before your reach the bar, and once you there you will find a great selection crafted beers and a full wine selection also to partake in.
It was my first time and I ABSOLUTELY loved it. I loved the wall painting on the outside of the building and the beautiful painting in the front of the bookstore behind the register. A beautiful, clean place with a whole bunch of books and accessories to choose from. I went on Independent Bookstore Day, which I had not ever heard of until I received an email from WellRead Black girl! It was an amazing experience and it was at a Black owned bookstore! In love with my purchases, the employees, the music, the vibe, great experience! Looking forward to going back again!!
First, its important to note that this is the first (not just a pop-up) book store in the Bronx in years, and its not technically open yet (but they are open at odd hours when the owner is setting up stock). Was lucky to get in today. Second, the book collection - so far - is pretty small, but well curated for the local area. When officially open, this place is going to be a great addition to the Bronx.
Great place. The only book store in the bronxs. And black owned. The place have great things to buy. You can read and lounge with your commuter. You can also order a snack to eat there. I brought a beautiful umbrella very unqiue never seen it anywhere before. Its also a up and coming area.
Big ups To an establishment bringing enlightenment, Culture, Awareness and illumination to the Bronx. The lit bar is a place for Adults and kids by day and Adults, libations & conversation by evening. Blessings Noëlle, Cant wait for the opening and your success. Books, conversation, wine = Bookstore & Chill
I’ve been scouting for a specific book and was having trouble finding it and they had it! I was also so happy to see the inclusivity of their selection, representing Black, Latinx, Asian, Muslim, LGBT, and, which I was really thankful for, Jewish voices. Noelle Santos is a superhero in her own right for investing in her community in a way the city has failed to. The entire layout of the shop is beautiful and engaging. The wine bar in the back is just genius. Hoping to come back with my man to read and drink a glass of wine for a #hisandhersbookclub.
I went here for the first time on Saturday and LOVED it! The staff was kind and helpful and they had an amazing selection of merchandise. I bought a book from the section highlighting Bronx stories. They also had lots of other unique gift ideas outside of (or in addition to) books. I will definitely be going back.
I love the vibe and energy of this place. They have a great selection of books ranging from YA to feminist literature. The employees are really welcoming and making you feel very comfortable. Its the only bookstoreeft in The Bronx and it was nice environmental to walk into. There is comfortable seating if you want to sit and read a book. My favorite part about this place is the wine bar which has a great selection to choose from. You can feel extra sophisticated as you sip on some wine and read a book. Definitely stop by here if youre a fan of books!
The decor, the wall art and the set up of the store is really nice. The customer service well not so much. Unfortunately, coming in we weren’t even greeted nor assisted. I asked a few questions which were answered the girl behind the counter was nice. But the dismissive attitude of the other employee waking around on her phone was so uncomfortable and spending over $100 in the store you would expect a “thank you and have a good day” but not even. Nice and cute but wouldn’t go back.
If youre looking for a trendy bookstore, try this place. You walk in and the books are organized by genre, theres friendly staff willing to help, and a VERY cute and diverse childrens nook (if you read my reviews, I get really excited when I see a childrens nook - ANYWHERE).The selection of books are so diverse and liberal - Im ALL for it! I felt comfortable and welcome. I came in with my boys and their dad, we were actually looking for a place (besides the Library) where their dad can have coffee while helping the boys with homework and came across this place. Its really chill, I say that the best way possible.Theres a little wine bar in the back where they serve refreshments, no coffee, but we got chocolate milk, they had fizz in a glass bottle...🤗 I felt like I could go there every day! This place seems like a place you go to if you have a book club and want to meet over a glass of wine to discuss. It also looks like a great place for fireside chats...Im sure they offer events that would be fun for all kinds of people from the trendy hipster to the nerdy bookworm, the people there open and friendly and they didnt seem to mind kids doing homework at that place.Coffee wouldve given them a higher rating but overall it was a pretty cool place.
Based on Opening Day; will revise when I visit on a regular day.Super cute spot! Great vibes. Diverse selection of books. Lost a star because the stock was limited (but again they are just starting) and I didnt have a chance to check out bar side because of crowds. Will definitely revise this once I revisit on a normal day. But Im so happy the lit bar exists!Been back a few times and this is a Bronx Gem for real! Cant wait for this Panderama to go away to enjoy the Lit Bar fully.
This bookstore in the South Bronx is EVERYTHING the Bronx needs! The design and decor is gorgeous and welcoming. The book selection is probably the best Ive ever seen, authors of color writing stories with people of color in the center. I do not mind spending my hard earned cash in this bookstore and I urge you to spend your cash there too! Oh did I mention there is a beautiful wine bar and lounge area?!?
Well organized collection and very visually pleasuring. Also a fun eclectic mix of little tidbits like notepads and umbrellas. Bar looks great but crowded - the two are related! Cashier was very helpful and friendly. Great space and welcomed addition to the community. Hoping to see more upcoming events.
This is a really nice bookstore. I love the way the owner has it set up. You can go in & make your purchases & also have a seat & read. Being that this is the only bookstore in the Bronx, Im really hoping it does well & people visit regularly. They have a YA selection as well as a selection for children. The icing on the cake is the wine bar! Yesssss, you can purchase a glass of wine & read!
A cute little indie bookshop with books representing the community at large. Also cute: the murals of the little girl inside & outside the store. The wine bar has a small but nice selection. The lounge area is comfy & the staff is nice. Restaurants flank either side, making it a nice stop to score good books then grab a bite.
Just for being here! We need more bookstores in the Bronx!UPDATE 06-02-2021: Did you know they can order books through this store? They have a website. I however, placed my order instore. The service is excellent! Soon, the reading and chilling spaces will be open! Yay!
SUCH A LOVELY ATMOSPHERE. Not TOO much books where you’ll get lost in the endless and endless categories & not TOO little. As soon as your Emeterio there’s an entire section dedicated to yours truly “The Bronx”. The service was wonderful, they even have a bar in the back if you really wanna unwind and pick up a drink. Honestly such a blessing of a store to have in The Bronx.
I love this place! Me and my girlfriend head there all the time. Great books, incredible and thoughtful layout, and wonderful demeanor by the staff. The only area where we’d encourage improvement is costumer service.Greeting customers, asking if we need help, staff being knowledgeable of the books, and just finding ways of being engaged with the customer while they’re in the store. I’m sure by the time anyone reads this review that’ll all be worked out though (they just opened a few months ago, which is incredible because it all seems so polished already). Must go to when in NYC!
From arriving at the store to leaving the store. The place had a warm and friendly vibe about it. The staff really made you feel wanted they would tend to all your needs whether small or large. The book selection was very diversive. It was just a jaw dropping experience to have in the Bronx.
Really fantastic black-owned bookstore with many books written by black authors and coloured authors. I went there because of the good reviews and it was worth the visit. Really nice owners, they were very friendly and helpful to me and my husband. Really good variety of books that are often not available at other bookstores. Will definitely return again! Highly recommend!
The Lit. Bar is in fact Lit! This is the coolest bookstore I’ve ever been in for my entire 27 years of living. 80% of my amazon reading list is on her shelves. The store itself has a strong positive inviting energy that makes you want to lose yourself in a glass of wine from her carefully curated list while sitting a spell on the comfortable lounge chairs and love seats. The staff warmly greeted me at the door and I was even lucky enough to get a tour from the boss lady herself. 😎The music that plays throughout the store is a collection of hip-hop, R&B and oldies that feels like it’s pulling directly from my music library.I will definitely be back anytime I’m in The Bronx.
Absolutely love this place. This was my 1st time walking in and from the very 1st moment I was greeted by a wonderful staff, the energy was very lively and the music was on point. I enjoy that there are so many different genres to look at and that you also see notes from other readers recommending books. Definitely will be coming back.
This is what I have to say - get to The Lit. Bar! I came from FL and Im very happy that I did! The atmosphere makes you feel relaxed as if you are at home. Purchase a couple of books and have a seat in the lounge, have a glass of wine and lose yourself in your book and surroundings. As strange as this might sound, Barnes and Noble did the Bronx a favor. Thanks to their closing, Noelle created this bookstore. Again, get thee to The Lit. Bar!
Ms. Santos has brought what we need in the Bronx “ A book Store “ and not your average book store , once you walk in you greeted with warm welcomes , and just the smell of books 📚, I love it , love the decor . And I’m excited I have a place where I can relax and surround myself with great authors. I applaud Ms Santos for what she’s creating and bringing that knowledge back to the books , if your a book worm definitely check this place out!!
The Lit Bar is a gem of a book store in the Bronx. Black Magic is happening here from the owner to the books on the shelves written by some of the most creative and prolific authors of our time. It tells the black and brown diaspora that our stories are relevant and worthy of being printed and distributed to the masses.
Welcoming. Creative. Inclusive and warm. These are the vibes felt, when you come into The Lit Bar!Ms. Santos, set out to create an experience, within the Bronx. One that incorporates the historic, cultural, and political awareness of the borough, and merges it with the current rise of change within the neighborhood. I applaud the courage to bring such a rich treasure to the Bronx. One that was much needed, after the closing of B&N. Please stop by. Join the mailing list. Bring your little ones. Order a cup and join a discussion. The Lit Bar is truly that!
Experienced The Lit. Bar, for the the first time, to attend the promotion of Shan Boodrams The Game of Desire, will be returning because its LIT!Gratitude for the individuals who made the evening extra special. The venue was packed to the door, yet Noëlle and her team ensured everyone felt welcomed and cozy throughout the night. Appreciation for Suraiyah whose personality set the mood for the evening. As for the book collection. The ambiance is quite charming and intimate providing the perfect space for the thoughtfully curated works and merchandise. Theres literally a bit of LITerature for everyone. There was a title to ignite interest at every glance. The Lit. Bar is exactly what you are looking for in a bookstore, a true gem.Oh! And for our social media family, the location is filled with Gram worthy deco and art.

2020-10-17Absolutely adore this bookstore. This was my first visit and certainly not my last. I really loved the layout and overall store design. They really made this place inviting and gave me a whole new appreciation for books and the nostalgia you feel when you see a great cover. I was like a kid in a literary candy store. Oh and there is a bar in the back... love it.

2020-02-26The vibe is super chill. I love how they organized and labeled the book sections. Really smart messaging throughout the store. Unapologetic in its praise of diversity. Then comes the wine bar in the back that sets the mood. Its a literary getaway.

2020-02-22Cute, cozy bookstore and wine bar. It is a small store so it doesnt have everything, but the selection of books it does have is impressively diverse and radical. The classics section even included a Chinese classic, Dream of the Red Chamber. Im used to seeing mainly Western literature acknowledged as classic, but this small action made me feel really included. The staff was nice, the ambiance was friendly, and the physical space was bright and spacious. I definitely recommend stopping by to check out this gem in the South Bronx.

2021-01-11MUST VISIT.All types of books and I was so enthralled I did not take pictures of the inside. Classics, bell hooks, Angela Davis, self-help, children’s books, journals, stationery gifts. I wanted everything in the store.I called to set aside books and they delivered. Thank you so much to the incredible staff. They were able to help me find the book Dune and were so kind and knowledgeable. As a Bronx native, we love you. Please make Lit Bar merch!!

2019-05-20I was devastated when Barnes & Nobles closed in Bay Plaza. Although you can buy books online, it isnt the same. I enjoy going to an actual bookstore, and feeling the book in my hand. This bookstore has a nice set up and atmosphere. The wine bar adds extra flavor to what is already dope. This is a really good look for the Bronx.

2019-08-22I love bookstores, I decided to pay the litbar a visit. Nice environment, I love how the shelves are marked. Fair prices and wasn’t too busy, hope to visit again in the near future.

2020-02-04The price hike for Mamba Mentality is disrespectful and makes me question the business practices of The Lit Bar Bookstore. Barnes and Nobles is selling this for $35 as they should. I can understand a price hike in the event of someone’s passing but how are we getting to $74.99 plus tax from $35. I called to get an understanding of this difference and was informed that is the price regardless of Kobe Bryant’s passing. Also, they are not the only business in the city that has this book but I was looking forward to supporting a Bronx business. That was my first time and most certainly last time at this place.
