Not helpful at all. Prices keep going up without maintenance of any facilities. Ive been a member with NYSC for about 2 years now and while the membership fees continuously increase, we do not see any improvements to justify the price increases. There are rats that crawl through the toilets, steam room/saunas dont work and classes are so small that they become nearly impossible to book as they fill up very quickly. I expected more for the price Im paying. Looks like Ill be checking out Blink.
BEWARE - this place is a real mess and definitely not worth the money...they are basically thieves.1. They don’t keep track of member cancellations (they say they do but it’s not true). I found over $400 dollars in my account after I had requested a cancellation and their response is “the employee that you tried to cancel your account with is no longer with us”. Over a month of phone calls happened and I am still missing my money.2. Their facilities are not worth it. They don’t tell you that they are going to be doing heating and cooling repairs and so basically you are stuck with working out in unreasonable temperatures, noises, and awful humidity smells.3. Their client facing team is unmotivated. All you will find are people at the front desk slouching over their computers and they barely say hello much less create an atmosphere where you want to work out.
The worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. If you’re thinking about becoming a member, don’t. Refer to the recent class action lawsuit filed this year for a few hundred reasons why.As for theIt Ramsey, NJ gym itself, aging equipment, dirty men’s lockers, and a front desk that has some nice people, but one particularly obnoxious older woman who was confrontational when I asked her questions about my membership.Want a workout? Run away from this, and likely any other NYSC, especially given how their parent company is being run into the ground.
So, NYSC has this new practice of turning all of their mediocre to good gyms into Elite gyms. The problem with this is that they sold everyone these Global passes where the contract was that we got access to ALL gyms. Then they upgraded some, in name only, and began charging customers and extra TWENTY dollars a VISIT without ever explicitely telling anyone. I went to Astor Place numerous times and not one time did the front desk EVER mention this. Never. Total scam or total incompetence, you choose.I filed a complaint at the Better Business Bureau because it is so shady and again the customer service said that I was never charged for the times I visited those locations so I should ignore it. AND THEN THEY WENT AHEAD AND CHARGED ME FOR ALL PREVIOUS VISITS TO THEIR ELITE gyms.It is a scam. Go to Blink. Crunch. 24 Hour Fitness but cancel your membership here ASAP unless you want hundreds of dollars of upcharges.
After being a satisfied member for some time my credit card number changed and they were unable to process my monthly dues. No calls, no communication, nada, nothing. Next thing I know I was contacted by one of those high pressure collection agencies (first time in my life) for payment. Im glad to pay what I owe but Id think twice about joining if I were you. Hey NYSC, if you wanted to be paid you could have just picked up the phone and called! Nice going NYSC. :/
Im filling a claim against Town sports international after being unable to cancel my membership and being charged membership dues after canceling. It sounds like other may also have had issues with fradulent billling practices. Please reach out if you would like to join my claim against Town to Sports International.
The WORST location by far, gym is a total mess: filthy dirty from the bottom to the top (lockers, toilets are health hazard, showers, gym floor, courts, treadmills) unsafe as equipment is not property maintained/cleaned and out of order for weeks!! General Manager is completely incompetent of handling any tasks whatsoever and keeps bragging that used to own his own gym and doing this temporarily. I completely agree with the statement of one of the reviewers that he tries to avoid all/any contact with members when he is in the office and no one picks up the phone with no option to leave a voicemail if you try calling there. Front desk people/associates (gym employees) are actually taking gym classes in the studio so a lot of time no one at the desk or bored member of the cleaning crew handling the desk. Its especially amusing that once you leave a negative review they will respond to it with an email asking to reach out to them which is what I did! But good luck getting a response!! Same as in their gym locations - TOTAL DISREGARD TO CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE!!! Its a mystery how they get be a publicly traded company with this level of customer service.
Very dishonest - beware - first NYSC sells you a passport membership with which you can go to all the clubs, then it turns out that that is not true and you actually cannot go to some of the clubs with that membership and finally if you are unaware that you cannot go to some clubs, they will let you in and charge you extra for each visit without even telling you! Finally, when you call and explain the situation, they say that supposedly there is some sign somewhere and they do not care about your situation and will not refund you... “amazing” customer service - beware of this dishonest NYSC organization that does not care about its customers.
To say they SUCK would be a bit of an understatement.I called trying to fix a membership billing problem and was told the manager at the club would be the only one to help. The club I use (36th and Madison) has NO manager and has not for some time. The person on the phone had no idea what was going on, yet had full access to all my info. I was left with no choice but to terminate with them. I did so with the 30 day notice and Im not happy. In case you do not know, TSI is New York Sports Club (NYSC) and they are bleeding out.
Advertising is very misleading. I experienced erroneous charges despite my request to terminate the membership. I was also disappointed that they do not offer any additional classes for expecting Moms. I dont see the value in the premium they charge over other gyms especially when the sauna is often inoperable.
This company is terrible wouldnt recommend it to anyone. With so many gyms out there you would think they would understand the importance of customer service. LA Fitness, Lifetime and many others are a much better option. If you are going to charge like a premium club you should provide the customer with a premium experience. Unfortunately, that is not the experience you will have at nysc especially at the White Plains New York location. The manager there is dealing with the side effects of steroid use and cant handle issues with diplomacy. If youre in the White Plains New York area do yourself a favor and either go to Lifetime for the premium experience or save yourself some money and go to one of the 4 other gyms within a four block radius. Youre welcome in advance!
They charged us for months they were not open then said we would get a credit...they never credited the accounts. They took us off freeze w/o letting us know & charged us again for another 1 1/2 months when all of the facilities were not open. The manager was NOT HELPFUL ignored emails and did not listen. Horrible customer service...they dont even try to help their customers...and its a health club...not very HEALTHY.
Wow! Closed my club (Danbury CT) a month ago, I cancelled in early December and now getting charged for January. Theyre making me call one poor guy at another club, however, hes never available, no voice mail, email address I was given is invalid. Front desk reception folks answering phones at his club are essentially useless. Calling Visa to open a dispute. No wonder your clubs are closing!
Irresponsible. NYSC wont answer any calls, emails, or tweets. Members do not consent to continue to be billed when they have no recourse to freeze or cancel membership. Continuing to bill members is pandemic profiteering and should be illegal. Wont someone from consumer affairs step in?
Cannot tell you how dirty the facility in Palisades Mall is... Ive asked to speak with the Mgr (Reginald) a # of times - only to be told he was in a meeting or conference call and if I left my number, he would get back to me asap - never happened - took a video of the steam room - giving to board of health (enough said). Also, raised my rate by 33% by note! Before my years membership was up - cant even get a plastic bag or paper towel... but the place is worth 33% more... Go figure
My mother and my account were cancel in September/2016 and TSI(NYSC) continued to bill my account as I explained to them I am 16-yrs old and I cannot confirm or sign any contracts. NYSC advised they dont care and sent bill to collection company (Central Credit Services). When you speak to Central Credit advises that they dont care and that they will be taking me a 16-year old to court. If I was (YOU) I would find another GYM since this ones attitude is I DONT CARE.
Awful. NYSC Ramsey- never a manager on site. Many lies about status of pool repairs and current condition. No recourse for customers. Seems there is zero oversight of operations and zero concern for the club member beyond taking membership money. Absolutely disgusted and discouraged.
The Regional Manager left a message on my answering machine a few days ago and I called him back today. At the moment, he was on a conference call and would not take my call because he was “clocking out” right after that. Seeing that I pay his salary, he should have taken my call, as I’m a member and that’s just good customer service. What does that mean “clocking out”? Aren’t you there to speak with members? Very unprofessional and inhumane. I feel like I’m paying so much for nothing which is such a pity.
I have posted reviews on yelp and other sites complaining about nysc in new Rochelle. I have spoken to a manager that came across very bitter and I have requested to speak to his general manager and I have yet to get a response. If someone from headquarters can reach out to me I would appreciate it. I would also like to share how his response was were he feels hes just being transparent. I would hate to post his email so I look forward to someone reaching out to me.
Been a member for 15 years and it is getting worse monthly. They removed moisturizer completely. They removed hair conditioner and replaced the shampoo with a conditioning shampoo. Then they replaced the body wash with a VERY STRONGKY scented one that made me sick...abd I amnot allergic. 3 complaints. The manager called once, weeks ago. No change. The volume of the classes is DANGEROUSLY high. So loud in onethat it was loud from the locker room. So loudinanother it was loud from the other side of the gym floor. I asked the instructor to lower it. She did,but said it is part of the class. Right part of the class is making clients deaf.... Those in the class and those not. I putear plugs in. STILL LOUD. She walked to the treadmills with class and left the music on!!!!Lets not forget... When I changed my membership 2 years ago, was told the annual fee was a price lock, then they raised my monthly fee a year later.
If I could, this gym (DOBBS FERRY) would get less than a zero rating. It is dirty, bathrooms are not kept up, towels are strewn all over the floor, empty water bottles left on the floor, weights are never re-racked, equipment is 2nd hand and often out of order. AVOID AT ALL COST! NO APOLOGY FOR A 25 LB WEIGHT SMASHING MY TOE WHICH TURNED BLACK AND SWOLLEN WITH BLOOD,
Cancelled my wifes membership, but was billed for months thereafter. each time my wife or i complained, the company said theyd fix it and, guess what, they never did. then it got worse, they changed their name and then began billing me again, including back charges, all for months that i was not a member, long after id cancelled. its like hotel california, you can check in but you can never leave. [re stamford, ct facility on commerce road.]
I can identify with the highly critical reviews previously offered. This is a poorly managed company. I have complained previously, in writing, about dirty, rusting and poorly maintained equipment, and non-functioning machine-mounted TV monitors--to no avail. They never respond and clearly dont care. I learned of a recent 50% dues increase when it showed up on my credit card statement--with no prior notice. I wrote to inquire why and, again, no response.STAY AWAY.
Absolutely Terrible 93rd and 1st and Corporate. Half the time no one answers the phone at the front desk. Whoever the manager is keeps their identity a secret. Dirty. No wipes to clean machines before or after using them. Usually there are at least 3 stations or treadmills broken. If you try to reach corporate you will probably die before you reach a human. It seems that management does not give a damn about the company.
Disorganized telephone non customer service located in Philly PA.Member for years at Springfield, NJ location, managers last a few weeks, dirty locker rooms, cleaning staff glossing the front entrance floor at peak hours, cleaning windows at peak times. How about clean locker room at peak usage and make sure entrance floor is dry from rain and not gloss! Billing errors over time and went to consumer affairs to straighten out their fault. there are better places with better prices, this is monopolistic competition, meaning same industry with the company using their own spin to be some what different.
NYSC Carmels large Class Exercise Room has had no heat since at least December 2017. Managers throw up their hands when asked when heat will be restored. Parts are being ordered, they have no control, etc. Meanwhile class after class is working out with 2 space heaters and morning temperatures of 50 degrees.
I worked there.Had the worst work experience there as an employee and afterwards as a member. The most disorganized, irresponsible and unprofessional establishment I ever worked for in my life. The gyms are dirty and unruly at all times and they are not trustworthy with your billing information.Beware.
Worst ever customer service and all services , they not fixing or resolving problems , they DONT DO NOTHING !!! I will write my worst history with them in every review online which I can find !! I very disappointed , manager is never on his place in Belt location ((((

2021-07-18Beware -- scam. Local gym, New York Sports Club closed in March 2020 because of Covid. I cancelled my membership. A month later the club physically closed down, as in disappeared from its location. In January 2021 the company continued billing me, only this time under a different name. (It was NYSC -- now Gym Membership Dues. ) I just noticed, six months later. Check your credit cards, frequently, people.

2019-08-05If I could give them negative stars I would. They claim they sent out a mass mailing to inform members of price increases, but no such thing happened. Corporate tells you one story but the actual gym tells you another story. They charged me $10 to cancel my membership even though I gave the 45 day notice and I was on a month to month meaning no contract. I would never do business with them again because they are very shady and unethical. Its not only about a lack of communication, they just cant get their story straight.

2020-09-26I was a member at NYSC Atlas Mall for 10 years. Over the years I’ve had several bad experiences trying to cancel memberships for my son and daughter where they continued to charge even after a request to cancel was put in, increase rates without notice and annual lock in fee which didn’t seem to lock in anything. They get you any way they can. But because of convenience I continued to be a member. As we all know the gyms were forced to close mid March because of the pandemic and any member can tell you that NOT ONLY DID THEY NOT REFUND THE REMAINDER OF THE MONTH BUT THEY CHARGED US FOR APRIL TOO. I contacted corporate and they assured me that “ You will be receiving a credit to your account for future dues.” Okay, fine.In the midst of all this pandemic stuff my husband gets diagnosed with cancer in April and I got diagnosed with breast cancer in August. The doctors say that they don’t want us going to the gym because of the virus and our compromised immune system.Fast forward to August/September. We contacted NYSC Atlas and requested to cancel my membership on September 2, the first day they were open. The gym bills on September 1st and bill they did. Although they owed their members about 45 days of credit, they went ahead and billed us all. I went to the gym and spoke with the manager and I was told that not only am I not getting a refund for September but I am also not getting the money back for the 45 days I was charged in March/April. “The credit was for future dues.” Is what I was told. Just like they had stopped the billing in May, they could’ve let it be paused for September since they owed us all a credit but they chose to flick the switch and bill us all. Never in my life have I dealt with a business that is so corrupt and dishonest. AND they said they waived my $30 cancellation fee, wow thanks for nothing.PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE FRUSTRATION AND STAY AWAY.

2019-04-03If I could give them zero stars I would. Stay away from this Gym. I had a membership with Lucille Roberts which was acquired by Town Sports International. I called to cancel my membership but was told I had to do it in person, so I went to the gym to do just that. When I got there, the employee said that I needed to sign a membership cancel request form, which I did. She said your membership has been canceled but my manager will call to confirm. Now if I cancel my membership why does your manager need to call to confirm, these people are such scammers. I am still waiting on the call.

2015-11-15If I could, I would not give this company 1 star. I have never rated any organization, but from my own experience and experiences I have heard from friends and family this company does not regard their customers with any respect. To be clear, the employees and trainers at each site are all excellent and respectful and helpful, I have only had good experiences. It is the companys policies which are the problem. A common complaint I know is the 30 days notice for quitting the gym, which you can only do after you have completed your year or 2 year long contract with them. Be careful what contract you supposedly sign. Technically I never signed a contract with them, my contract was by verbal agreement and the only access I had to that contract was an email I saved from my original conversation one year prior. When I did want to quit the gym it took me two months. The contract says I can contact either my home gym or the headquarters. But what they really mean is that you must send documentation to the headquarters. Your home gym forwards your cancellation at their own convenience...2 or 3 weeks later which could be another $70-$100 out of your pocket before headquarters even decides to process your cancellation. As you cancel you are also given other documents which you must sign which have never been mentioned in the contract or by the company before hand. Also in order cancel I was given an email address to write to, this email address was inactive and it took quite a bit of searching and repeated emailing to finally get the correct email. once I did contact someone, it took repeated emails to clearly state all the steps which they had stipulated under my contract as well as the steps they added along the process. When I finally cancelled my membership I did not get exactly what was expected but I was happy the process was over and am sure that if I was not as thorough as I was I would be worse off. The following is what I did:-Letter stating important dates and times including contract start date, contract end date, date of cancellation, and the date 30 days later when your membership is absolved (signed). Be sure to use the language of the contract and restate clearly and precisely that based off their information that this is your understanding. Be sure to use words that hold them accountable for their own language.-Copy this letter four times, go to your home gym and have an employee sign and date each letter.-have four copies of your contract as well as any other unexpected documentation your home gym may ask of you.-You should have at least four copies of each document, leave one for your home gym to have on file, one for yourself to keep on file, one to mail to your home gym (certified)...better safe then sorry and the final a certified set of documents to mail to the headquarters.-Scan each document and email to the cancellation email service TSI provides, if an email doesnt work keep looking for one but keep forwarding the same email so their is a paper trail.-call your home gym to make sure they have passed on your information to headquarters...push them to do so in a polite manner (they are not the bad guys)-in the emails to headquarters reiterate that the contract only stipulates that the home gym must receive a cancellation notice and once the home gym receive the notice that is the effective date of your cancellation, again use the companys words, they are the ones who set the policy.Sorry for the long winded note. I hope if you decide to cancel it is not this complicated. I have known too many people who have been taken advantage of by this company and so I used every step that I know to follow their rules to hold them accountable.Best of luck to you.

2019-10-28If possible I would give them negative stars. I have been a member for 10+ years and had to cancel due to a move. After sending a certified letter they increased my fees and continued to debit my bank account. I then spoke to the regional manager who stated that no further debits would occur. Yet they debited my account again. Id also like to state that the manager of BSC Wellington has never returned a phone call despite me trying to reach her for over month. They have been deceitful and dishonest. It’s a disgrace and quite possibly the worst customer service I have experienced. It is absolutely shocking to me that this is how they treat someone who has been a member for over 10 years.

2020-07-13Went to BSC in Peabody to clean out my locker and cancel my membership earlier. I had to speak with two people who made it very difficult to simply cancel my membership after I requested multiple times.I went to the locker room after cancelling my membership to retrieve the 2 pairs of cleats and gym shoes that I left in march when the gym abruptly closed but the entire locker room was cleaned out. Upon speaking to the manager he told me there was nothing he could do since there was no documentation of me every leaving my things in a locker.Very disappointed in TSI. Avoid at all costs.

2017-05-09I cancelled my membership with in the grace period of 10 days, but the associate and team at Hicksville, Long Island claims that they don’t have a record of that. After constant, back and forth I finally spoke with associate at this location and she mentioned that a message has been passed to the Manager and it was concluded that going forward that is in May 2017, I will not be charged with any membership fees/dues. However, i was still being charged. To begin with, I didn’t want to join the club and just went for a visit to see the facility. However, the associates kept pushing on 19.99/month deal and said i can come back in 10 days to cancel and no fees will be charged. Also, the person who enrolled me didn’t even felt the need to show me the club. The customer service phone number listed here is for some membership group who handle NYSC account which is useless. Instead of calming me down on this issue the lady got frustrated and said I CANNOT DO ANYTHING. Well, If you cannot do anything that who can? They are running a fraud under $19.99/month membership. Poor customer service. Will never ever recommend this club to anyone.

2018-11-07This place is a complete scam and is an example of a company that just doesnt know how to do the right thing and doesnt understand the value/ cost of having integrity. I have never had such horrible customer service from Management. I will just start by saying I do not have a signed contract with NYSC (Town Sports International), Ive never worked out there, and somehow they billed me over ~$1,000. I had one manager approve the refund (Very shady way - saying he had to do it in 3 installments over 3 months). But he apparently got fired. After over a month of trying to get the contact information for a decision maker, I get the Area Sales Manager and he is even worst. He is unresponsive, he sees that I do not have a contract and says that I need to have proof that I talked to the GM prior to 6/19. Why? I coudnt tell you but I definitely have a call log that says such. I sent it and he completely ignored it and wont respond to anything. This is absolutely mind blowing. Had they just done the right thing in the first place, I might have positive associations with their brand, refer them and even sign a contract when I was ready to sign up for a gym. Instead, they are forever corrupt, shady and a company that I will never set foot in and never recommendTimeline:I went into a NYSC in October 2017. I signed up for a 10 day trial and never even went. The Sales Manager made sure I knew that I wasnt signing up for an annual subscription by doing this. I didnt even sign a contract because I knew that I might be moving and that it might not be the best location. In January 2018- June, NYSC billed ~$1000. I noticed in June and immediately called. The Sales Manager had been promoted to GM, and he got on the phone and apologized and promised me a full refund. He said he would have to do it in three separate checks over 6-8 weeks and I agreed. In August, I still hadnt received a payment. I went back and forth for weeks, calling and going into the gym locations. I found out that the GM was fired. After another month of working with management that did not have the power to issue a refund, I finally was able to get the information for an area manager. The area manager is unresponsive. Although he removed the latest two months that were in collections, he refuses to help with the issue. He gave an arbitrary date of when I had to have had my conversation with the GM (which I provided a phone logs). Even though I resolved this with a manager of the club, the new manager wont provide me his managers number to get this resolved. Again, I dont have a contract with NYSC, I never used the service, and that is proof enough that they incorrectly billed me.

2019-06-25Absolutely terrible, Lucille Roberts 135-39 38th Avenue Flushing, NY 11355.No wipes to clean machines before or after using them. Usually there are at least 3 stations or treadmills broken. It seems that management does not give a damn about the maintenance. Worst customer service and all services, they are not fixing or resolving problems. Basement AC unit broken for months, very danger situation on the floor because the wooden tiles are broken. I am very disappointed. All club members hear the same BS, ( were fixing it!!!). BASEMENT - Tuesday Zumba and Wednesday 6:30 large classes has had no AC since 5/19. Managers throw up their hands when asked when AC will be restored. Parts are being ordered, they have no control, etc. Meanwhile class after class is working out with 1space fan and evening temperatures of 95 degrees.
