After a long time researching artists, I found Chris here through a friend who also got her tattoo here. Setting up the appointment was easy, the receptionist communicated with me very quickly and was a seamless process. The place itself is clean, easily accessible via subway. Warning for those with physical limitations (i.e., broken leg, wheelchair, etc.), this has stairs up for piercings and stairs down for tattoos, just FYI.As for the tattoo sessions, working with Chris was a dream - he did an incredible job on my custom phoenix tattoo down my forearm. I loved this place so much that I came back for another tattoo with Simi with one of her staples. Both artists are extremely talented, lovely to sit with, and the overall experience was the best I could ask for.The only caveat is the pricing. I paid $600+ with Chris for my forearm wrap-around tattoo, and $1500+ with Simi for my large floral arm tattoo. I came prepared saved up for these tattoos, but I imagine I couldve spent far less with other artists elsewhere for the same concept. I was just really in love with these artists work so I swallowed that $$$$.
I’ve gotten two tattoos and a piercing here. Get compliments on the line work all the time. Love the belly button piercing I got here. I only found them post-COVID, and every time everything has been super clean. They are strict about maintaining sterility. Gloves on gloves. Sterilizing machines.
I mainly went for Mona to pierce and shes so friendly that Im willing to go to her again! The atmosphere is very calming, though I find some layouts for tattooing on the lower floor to be odd. Its pretty sanitary and everyone who comes in and out uses the hand sanitizer without any notice, which I find to be so efficient and considerate of everyone! Highly recommend here for Mona for piercing in NYC if you’re there!
This was by far the nastiest experience I’ve had with an artist or shop. Support another shop!I’ll start by saying that the day before my appointment (in which I had put a deposit down) the shop asked me if I can come in a little later. I refused to come in later - I recognized things run over and people need grace, but unfortunately I was unable to give them the time they needed .. considering I paid a deposit for my time. Regardless, when I got there I was almost accosted by the women at the front of the shop who then told me that I was already pushed back. I waited over TWO HOURS because it got pushed back twice. I asked if the artist can accommodate me in any way. This was a test; I wanted to see if these people were the type of people you’d want to leave a tattoo on your body. If they were kind and respectful. I already caught the artist, Anthony, with an attitude a few times. This time was no different - when I asked for a financial accommodation to reflect waiting the two hours he told me “I don’t know what you do for a living but in this profession, that’s unheard of (…) sometimes a previous appointment takes longer & I have to make sure it’s perfect.” Albeit, I’m a new into the tattoo world, however, it’s not unrealistic to expect SOME accommodation or at least a friendly attitude when dealing with a client who was 45 minutes early and was asked to wait 2 hours after their scheduled paid appointment time. He offered to give me a refund, but I declined at the moment because I really wanted that art on me.2 hours passed and I’m in the chair - all the friends who said they could support me were no longer able to because it took so long, so I’m there alone. The vibe was just off. Anthony’s energy was off. All the shop cared about was cash being exchanged. While I was waiting on Tony the same woman asked me if I can come down and make a payment before starting. The final payment was even more expensive than we discussed. At that point I felt insulted. With a place with such a nasty attitude permeating throughout and lack of respect having the nerve to overcharge me… I got my deposit back and just walked right out.Support another shop!
I had an awesome experience getting a tattoo by Carla! I initially got my tattoo in Dec 2018. She was super friendly and professional throughout the whole design process, and worked with me to make sure the stencil was something I loved that worked for the fine line style I wanted. I had concerns about lines blowing out based on another tattoo I have, and she listened to my concerns and was extremely careful while she tattooed me. After healing, my tattoo needed to be touched up and she did it no questions asked—she even squeezed me in as I don’t live local to the shop and was only in town for a few days. I would highly recommend working with her, especially if you want a fine line piece. The only downside is that the shop can be pricey, but honestly you’re paying for high-quality artists who care about their work and, in my opinion, it’s well worth the cost.
I TOTALLY RECOMMEND HIDE, HES AN AMAZING ARTISTI went into the shop a few days ahead of time and I first spoke with Chang about the design I wanted, he helped me figure out what exactly the tattoo should look like, it was a quick and easy conversation. And When I asked the price he told me that version of the design would be $600, and Since that was out of my budget he was understanding of that, so we settled on the $400 version with a only few less details which I was perfectly happy with. When I came in for my appointment I was told that Hide drew out the final design and would be doing the tattoo, he was a nice and agreeable guy, very quiet and takes his work very seriously. Bottom line the tattoo came out beautiful and he had given me a lot of extra details, and I easily got the original $600 version of that tattoo, but I only had to pay the agreed $400. The shop is a bit pricey, but the artists are definitely not unreasonable, plus for the amazing tattoos they do the prices are definitely worth it. The art style and quality is unique and you will definitely be getting an amazing piece of art on your body.Hide did an amazing job on my first tattoo, and I would definitely recommend him and this shop to anyone looking to get a gorgeous and super detailed tattoo!!!
This is a great shop to get a tattoo. The staff is friendly, organized, and accommodating. I got tattooed by Chris- who is extremely talented. I wanted fine line work done for a geometric forearm tattoo and Chris was perfect. I came in with components of what I wanted and some structure to the idea of placement and he really worked me with to make it perfect! It’s on the pricey side. But they are excellent at what they do! The ink is gonna be on you for life, so might as well make a good investment for yourself.HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Their website says, walk ins are welcome but the lady in front asked me to step out of the shop so she can talk to me and then basically told me to get an appointment. Well, asking to schedule an appointment was not rude but to ask the customer to step out of the shop so she can talk to me was incredibly rude and unprofessional. Well, west4tattoo if you want to blame it on COVID, then put it on writing outside your shop but there is no reason to ask the customer to step out of the shop to talk to you.
I came here for a walk-in a few weeks ago and debated about this review. It was busy, but the main receptionist Kinko was very kind and took the time to answer all my questions, show me the shop specialty, and wrote down information on a business card for me. It was my first tattoo, so I was hesitant. Seems like a very high quality shop. It was the first tattoo shop where I wasnt intimidated by the tattoo culture because of the ambiance. Jazz in the air, bright lights, wonderful decor. Everything was going well until, to my absolute shock and horror, as I was talking to the polite receptionist, one of the male Asian artists (who was on his phone right in front of us) GRABBED THE NECK of the OTHER receptionist and began shaking her head like a rag doll, her long black hair flying everywhere, shouting loudly something Asian. It could have been just playing and I dont know what tattoo shop norm is, but that was severely uncomfortable, borderline abuse!!! I decided to pursue my tattoo elsewhere to give my money to a shop who treats their front girls humanely. Im not saying this shop doesnt do great work, Im sure they do, but be aware of the kind of people the artists are.
Got my tattoo done by Nick and couldnt be happier. After many studios in Stockholm (where I currently work) didnt want to take the job because my design was too small or too detailed, I took the opportunity after attending a conference in Boston.Nick was very professional and the result is stunning. He has strong opinions but always incorporated my own design and wishes to make it the perfect tattoo.I absolutely recommend him and the studio to everyone who knows what he/she wants, especially when your design has many details that need to be spot on.Cheers
Woman at the front desk was incredibly rude. Their website says you can email them to discuss your tattoo but the best option is to just come in. When I arrive with my partner, the receptionist tells us the opposite information and cuts me off mid sentence. Cool business model to be condescending, disrespectful, and advertise false and outdated information.
Ive been coming here since 2016 for my tattoos and its definitely one of the best in the city. Ive gotten 7/8 tattoos here and most of them done by Chang who is an expert at fine line designs. Hes hilarious and makes the whole experience something super fun. I will no doubt come back for more tattoos!
Carla was amazing i highly recommend! her color and line work is flawless and shes so sweet and easy to talk too, i trusted her with my tattoo and i definitely dont regret it at all!! Everyone seemed nice and the shop was clean and welcoming, it is pretty expensive but i think the quality of work and the experience of the artists make it worth the money
A great place for a high quality tattoo. Extremely professional, clean, and comfortable. My artist Khoki killed it with my request. The only ding here is that they are slightly unreasonable about pricing it’s super expensive and i felt like I overpaid for a three word 12 character tattoo (500$). They quality and experience was such that I would go back if I had some extra cash to burn. Def recommend.
My Mum, Daughter and I all went to West4 to have matching tattoos whilst on holiday in NY- we only went in to book but found ourselves having them done each by different people when we all wanted the same artist. I had designed them all they had to do for their $250 each so $750 is tattoo 3 small hearts on our wrists - mine and my mums are fine however my daughters is now a week later is barely visible. After serveral emails they wont offer any refund but have suggested knowing we live in London to have a top up. Apart from the fact that we are not going back any time soon this is laughable when clearly the artist did not go deep enough to make the tattoo last and why would we ever go back !! My daughter doesnt have a lot of money and $250 is a lot of money and now to have to pay more is a complete rip off by this supposedly reputable tattoo shop. Best advice I can offer dont go near closing time cause they just want to go home and dont care just want the money.
Went and got tattooed with my friend today. We came up from Nashville and probably should’ve ask more specifics about pricing - it’s a bit misleading. They don’t draw the art, they pick a font. Not very creative. Also, expect to pay $500 for a simple word. Anything more than that the price goes way up. A bit disappointing, though we are happy with the work.
I just finished my 4th session with Priscilla, and she’s worked with me the entire process tattooing exactly what I wanted, came up with the design and got me in when I was available, extremely talented work, the best of the best, West 4 has the best upcoming artists who are only getting more noticed, get tatted by the best while you can!
Went in to buy some simple earringS with my friend. Front desk guy was nice, lady downstairs that showed us the earrings not so much. She was incredibly condescending and snotty to us for reasons lost on me. Worst part is we purchased the earringS and were going to be on our way, come to find out we had only purchased one earring. She acted shocked when we clarified we did indeed want two earrings. I have no doubt she knew we wanted two earrings. We thought $20 was too good a deal for a pair of earrings, no ma’am that’s just for one. Not surprised it’s got the lowest rating in google for the tattoo shops in the area with that kind of customer service, next time I’ll check ratings first.
So grateful for the West 4 team, and specifically Chang (tattoobychang) for this sweet lil piece! The shop is pristine and gorgeous, and the artists really care about the integrity of their work. I was given a packet with detailed information about how to care for my tattoo and I followed it thoroughly. My flowers have healed completely, and still look as lovely as they did the day I got them. Really hoping to make another appointment soon. The drive from Philadelphia is beyond worth it!
Got an amazing tattoo by Chang. He did such and wonderful job and was friendly and professional. The negative reviews of this place all seem to be the friends of one bitter costumer. There are thousands of tattoo places in the city. If you think the price is too high, go somewhere else, don’t complain. My tattoo was pricey but I don’t regret it one bit.
Just got a piercing yesterday by Hide- the whole process was super quick and easy, relatively painless. The people who work in the shop are also really cool to chat with and seem really chill. It’s day two and my piercing is completely painless and I don’t even feel it!
This year I received tattoos by both Drag and JK. Both of them are highly professional artists with work no one can compare to! My session with Drag was about 3 hours and JK was maybe 30 minutes. Everyone there is extremely kind and welcoming, you may have to pay a little more here than other shops but the work and people here are superior!
If you arent form NEW YORK for example the UK - DO NOT USE THIS TATTOO shop - you have no come back they will treat you like you scum and call you disrespectful if you choose to after 2 weeks of not getting anywhere with them on email apart from them wanting you to travel back to NYC (when you cant and why would you go back there either) put some bad reviews to tell the online community your experience - what an absolute nerve calling a customer DISRESPECTFUL - We have all the nasty Instagram messages from them with their rudeness and shocking replies even if we werent rude to them - which we are looking forward to sharing with the online community via youtube. This is now not about the money $250 or the tattoo anymore it is the way we have been spoken to treated by this shop in the aftermath of a very bad tattoo!!!!!!!!!!
Went here to pick up some jewelry for a piercing. The guy that I assume was a new employee was really helpful. The guy that knew his stuff was uninterested. I asked several times if the jewelry was the correct size for the piercing as I am from out of town. He gave me the wrong size, TOO BIG, didnt give the courtesy to measure it properly. Maybe theyve better customer service for tattoo customers but the $20 jewelry I bought is worthless to me.
I came to West4 and got this tattoo done by Chang for $250. As you can see, a month and a half later, there are lots of gaps in the ink, and I assiduously followed the aftercare instructions to the T!! Consider going elsewhere. I went back to West 4th to show them. They said I could have it fixed by another artist, since, of course (!) I no longer had confidence in Chang. It seemed all set. Then, when I emailed to set up an appointment, they said I would be charged and additional $100. Now, Im making an appointment to have it removed by laser, so I can start fresh at another place.
The girls at the counter were very rude, just between they said upstairs immediately after the minimum is 300 dollars for work, with all the bad attitude as they intend to keep a busy place give that kind of treatment to customers. I went around to another super cool store where they gave us all the good treatment information and here we are getting our super happy tattoos at 6 skull tatto shop
Went there just over a week ago whilst visiting New York from London, went with my mum and nan to get matching tattoos for our trip, we all wanted them done by Chang, however he put us all with different artists and whilst my mums and my nans are perfect its been a week and mine has basically faded into non existence, when I emailed them about it as I was back in UK, they didnt remotely care and tried to blame it on me, I have a few other tattoos that have all healed perfectly. I asked for a refund so I could get it fixed in the UK but they refused and only offered stored credit (lol) and only apologised when I asked. They said they dont do refunds or store credit so I asked if they can offer me store credit why cant I get a refund then. Then they stopped replying which is awful awful service! As if I would ever go back there after being treated this way. Thank you West4tattoo for ruining an amazing memory and oh yeah... my arm.
I made an appointment with Chris prior to my trip to New York. I wanted a tiny outline of Africa with a heart where Ethiopia is located. He completely exceeded my expectations! Im absolutely in love with it! Its so dainty and perfect! Thank you Chris for my first tattoo!
This is in conjunction to what seems to be there Sister Store in Bedford (Bedford Tattoos):My experience was with reaching out to inquire about getting a tattoo from an artist here, they said on the day I wanted I would have to get it done at the Beford Location (No issue with that at all). After a few emails we settled on a design and a price ($250 for the tattoo, which was a 2inx1.75in piece of linework. Very overpriced for such a simple request, but I had heard very positive things from a friend). Upon arrival, the artist informed me that instead of the quoted price of 250 they wanted to charge $350! A huge increase even though I had the email proving the quote. When I showed the email, the artist said, Well someone else here could do that at 250 I guess, but not me. This was very unprofessional and as a result I sought a tattoo elsewhere.
BEWARE OF NICK. Wow, what an awful experience. Nick was incredibly rude and impatient. He doesn’t care about anything but money and cranking out as many tattoos as quickly as possible. The folks working the front desk were great, a shame this dude ruins the shop. If you want a premium tattoo and to be treated like a human then go to BANGBANG.
I didn’t even get a tattoo. I was consulting and the man was very rude and condescending to me. He was highly annoyed when I was asking for advice on the composition of the tattoo. Extremely unhelpful and wanted to overcharge me for something very simple. Therefore I didn’t get any work done there if they were willing to treat me with such disrespect and rudeness. Would not recommend to anyone.
Staff were arguing amongst themselves as soon as I walked in, and after I went through several fonts for the tattoo I was hoping they would help me design--another artist rudely interjected and told me that it was my job to design the tattoo--not theirs. Left immediately. Not the kind of atmosphere where you want to get something Permanent on your body.
They were unwilling to touch up a tattoo unless I paid for it again even after it had only been two weeks and it was not my fault it had already faded. Any other artist would of been proud to do a touch up for their work and not be worried about the money. Horrible experience.
West4tattoo Im so disappointed that you have not made good for Yasmin Martins poorly done tattoo. She needs to have it redone here in U.K but you should have owned up to the bad artwork and as customer services made good for her.I am so shocked as America has such a great reputation for customer services but on this occasion you have completely blown that away. This was a small outline drawing of a heart with two initials how hard could that have been to get it right. Please do the right thing and compensate Yasmin for the bad artwork she has received from your company.Just as well it wasnt anything bigger..... goodness knows how that would have turned out from the person that tried to etch the heart on her wrist. You made $750.00 in just 20 minutes from 3 girls just wanting hearts to celebrate their holiday and one of your artists completely screwed that up.COMPENSTATE YASMIN.
OVERPRICED AND OVERRATEDI got a cartilage piercing here a few years ago for $45 plus cost of jewelry. I just asked them to take it out as I’m having surgery and need all jewelry off of my body, and they asked for $50 JUST TO TAKE IT OUT. Don’t go here. There’s a reason everyone goes elsewhere.
Worst customer service experience I ever received. Pushy. Not very accommodating. Almost threatening. Not transparent with pricing. Always in a rush. And they whine and complain if you ask for changes to your artwork trying to make you feel guilty. Ill never go back and would never recommend anyone go regardless of the artist. This place needs shut down.
I got my tattoo couple of weeks ago with Ghinkos and I couldn’t be happier! She was really accomodating as she followed me through my idea, making so many different drawingns until I was 100% satisfied with it. I would recommend this place to anyone, so clean, professional and friendly! Thank you 😊

2022-07-05Very bad job. The beat a curved lines. the tattoo was done in 5 minutes, W4T took as much as $ 300 to work. Tattoo swam on this day. They refused to correct the picture for free until all the terms under the contract had expired. stay as far away from this place as possible. The red lines were painted on by a master in another tattoo parlor, showing how the tattoo from West 4 Tatoo is a curve. Does it cost 300$??

2022-04-22At all costs, stay away from Mona the piercer. She doesn’t know how to pierce unless you are a skinny woman. She out wrong size piercing I. My nose and piercing fell through hole. Had to remove piercing after being in nose for 8 months. Now I’m in the hospital because the same thing happened with my ear lobe. She put the wrong size piercing in my year and not I have to have surgery to get it removed. She’s the worst. Will be reporting to nyc and NY state commissions to have her license removed for this negligent practice!!!

2022-03-310% recommendation. They asked me to postpone the appointment 3 times and when I finally could go they said my tattoo, which was not more than 3 cm (2 inches), would cost at least 600 dollars !!!!! I think they try to rip off tourists, so please support another artist...

2021-12-29Wont honor their 1 year touch up policy. Not only that but my tiny tattoo cost over $500. I recommend going to UpLift Tattoo, they are a much better tattoo shop that honors their 1 year touch up policy, their prices are much more fair, much more professional, and their artists are just as talented in fine line tattooing (if not more so) than West 4.

2018-11-22I recently got tattooed by Young and I could not have been happier with the whole experience. Not only is she INSANELY talented, but she knew I had traveled from Baltimore to NYC and she stayed until 4 am finishing the 4 separate tattoos I wanted. The shop is great and it was such a fun experience. I did months of research to find the perfect artist to tattoo portraits of my dogs, and I couldn’t be happier that I chose Young :)

2021-12-27I would give zero starts if i could - the receptionist wouldn’t even let us in to discuss what we wanted - there was absolutely no one in the waiting area so she could’ve let us in - she was extremely rude. I asked if i could speak to one of the artist - she didn’t even acknowledge that. We walked away and we were prepared to spend a lot of money - she kept bringing up money and we kept saying money isn’t a problem. She should know that- who is going to go to tattoo shop and not have money to get it.

2021-09-08Shop was very clean. Front desk was kind and courteous.I had Chris do a minimal portrait of my grandmother on my arm. I absolutely love his line work. I had a very nice experience with West 4 and do plan on coming back for either a touch up or another art work. Highly recommend them.

2021-09-23I went to Chang in 2018 for my first tattoo. The I got a small spider the size of a coin and I was charged $800 US. The design looked perfect but only for a week before it started fading. Its patchy and looks unfinished. Its as if he didnt press the ink deep enough into my skin. He told me to go back for a touch up but I live in Australia and left the country the day after the tattoo (which I had told him before the appointment). Im very disappointed. Not worth the price AT ALL.
