Feel bad about giving this negative review because the people were very nice but I bought (3) 7 oz lobsters and I ended up throwing 2 away. They were old and frost bitten. Very dissatisfied and a waste of money. Felt really bad because I have been visiting family and thought of making them a nice seafood dinner.
Thought this was a legitimate fresh fish market, unfortunately it’s not. I purchased cod here which was in season, when removed from the bag I smelled it and it was clear that it was soaked in bleach. So my recommendation is don’t buy from here unless you want 2week old fish that’s been soaked in bleach
What a great place to get FRESH SEAFOOD right off the boat! You can buy fresh fish to go home, you can order dinner or lunches to eat there. Everything made to order! My seafood combo which was EXCELLENT was only $20!! And the FRESH Lobster Mac and Cheese was only $12! Lunch crabcakes sandwhich with fries only $10! Best place to go. Right off Main Street in Islip. Has a beautiful outside seating area by the water to enjoy your food too.
I purchased 1 1/2 lbs of cooked shrimp for a shrimp platter appetizer to have on Thanksgiving. This was on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 , the day before the holiday, so that it would be fresh. It went from their display case to my fridge at home by 1:30.When I opened it this morning to plate it up it smelledRancid. This shrimp had “turned” within 24 hours? It could only have be sold that way.It didn’t ruin the holiday and it isn’t t even the 20 odd dollars it cost. It was the seeming lack of concern or ignorance on the part of White Cap that their productWasn’t fit for consumption.I have been a customer for a long time but no longer.
Very friendly service and the food was fresh, unfortunately as a seafood lover I thought the crab cake was filled with artificial crab meat so I didnt finish it. The fried calamari needed salt or some kind of seasoning they were freshly made but very bland. For the price and the recommendation from a co worker I expected better.
I’m not sure if the other reviewers ate the same take out I had - my gf ordered flounder n fries 4 take out - she came home with under cooked fried fish and soggy fries (our bad we should of checked the bag upon receipt) so she went back to ask for better cooked aka new - we got re-cooked as in burnt fried fish and extra crispy as in burnt fries as it was refried instead of just starting over - waste of 25 bucks - don’t go there
White Cap Fish Market is still as good as the first time I went there 25 years agoThe fish dinners are perfectly cooked, plenty to satisfy the hungriest diner and so fresh that they are almost still moving. Sitting outside on the dock just adds to the whole experience of a perfect Long Island lunch.Dont forget to buy some fresh caught fish in the market to enjoy at home.
We went there for takeout and we wanted to have Alaskan King crab legs. But we were concerned about where we would eat them. The manager Vinnie offered to set us up with a private table on the dock. The food was delicious. Thanks to Vinnie and his crew for making our lunch fantastic.
Loved eating here and ordering to go! But Im very disappointed in the service.I called to place an order to pick up. I tell the guy I need 5 dozen of clams to be picked up. He asks another gentleman if it would be too much for him to open 5 dozen clams guys says yes the guy taking my order says Im sorry but we can not open 5 dozen clams because its too busyMeanwhile it was my father birthday and he wanted clams.Super disappointed!
White Cap is literally the BEST restaurant in ALL of Long Island. Dont think otherwise, this place is THE REAL DEAL. Great, fresh fish every day all day, a fantastic staff, and a scenery that almost itself captures what Long Island is all about. And thats not even mentioning their FANTASTIC owner, who always makes my day when I come here, and always manages to make me laugh. COME HERE, and you will REALLY have a taste of Long Island.
Been going here since i was a young teen with my parents. Best sea food place imo since everything is fresh and the clam/oyster bar in the summer is the best. Trust me I’ve gone to almost every place on and off main street and no one has seafood like these guys. It may not be fancy but the food is incredible.
A hidden gem! Super fresh seafood and good prices makes this locale a must try. With outdoor seating on the canal is perfect for a nice summer dinner experience. The best blackened Mako around and freshest little necks makes this one of my favourite seafood spots by far. Try it, youll be hooked.
Amazing Fish Market/Restaurant (and take-out).This place is awesome for two important reasons:1) The fishmongers are experts and break-down whole fish/clean shellfish to order.2) The fish quality is excellent and the fishmongers are 100% transparent/honest about fish type...I’ve been to other fish markets that try to sell farmed fish as wild fish...never at white cap.The prices are very reasonable too.Best items: Wild Salmon (I get several pounds at a time and they break-down half a fish into 1/4-1/2 pound fillets), Frozen Vacuum-Packed Black Cod (thaws perfectly), Frozen Vacuum-Packed Halibut, Uncooked Crab Cakes, U10 Shrimp (take-out raw...they de-shell/clean...also amazing when they grill it), Prepared Linguini in Clam Sauce (amazing), Long Island Clam Chowder (a unique version). There’s also a very authentic/not fancy outdoor area (on the water)...I love to get clams/oysters on the half shell...and ice cold beers...amazing.
This is a place where you must eat in person, I have eaten there 20+ times but just did take out for the 1st time. By the time I got everything home it was over cooked and cold...not the restaurants fault really but just a fact of take out seafood. Anyway eat there 100% maybe second guess a take out ride of more than t minutes.
Very disappointed. They were closed during their normal business hours. After planning our meal we went there to find a sign stating Too hot. Closed. Gone fishing. Yes it was hot. Thats why we wanted to eat out. We took the extra time to drive to Claws Seafood in Sayville. ..they were happy to serve us and the food was excellent.
The place to go on the South Shore for super FRESH shrimp and wonderful homemade soups to survive the Frosty Long Island winter. Specials change frequently. I recently had crab stuffed mushroom caps that were full of lumps of crab, Old Bay seasoning and tender tiny diced celery topped with delicately flavored bread crumbs. Simply superb!Baked clams generous large 3 clam portion, a pink Spalding size melange of spices, old Bay, celery, big meaty clams, incredibly priced at 9 bucks.OFF THE HOOK GOOD: Long Island chowder, a perfect mix of New England and Manhattan chowders. Served STEAMING AND PIPING HOT. Prices were outstanding, chowder was 3 for a cup, 5 for a pint.
For what they charge, it’s not worth it. Ordered Seafood Fra Diavolo with Lobster. It was bland and not spicy at all. When called and questioned the price because there are no prices on their website, was told if I wanted it spicy I should have asked. Last time I checked Fra Diavolo meant spicy why would I need to ask for that? Will not order from here ever again.
I had wanted to check this place out for years! Finally did so and was so glad I did!! I ordered the broiled monkfish dinner. WOW! Everything was delicious including the vegetable medley!!. If you LOVE fish, this is the place for you. It is small and cozy but I did take out.
I love this place💕the fish is really fresh, today is my father-in-law’s birthday and he and his friend went there they loved it to. Kathy is very accommodating, I had a special request for my father-in-law and she went above and beyond to make it happen I will be returning very soon thank you again sincerely Laura
I Love White Cap. Everyone is truly amazing, super sweet and the food is delicious !! Patrick knows how cook amazing dishes and hes super funny. I always get the salmon, its always cooked perfectly! Summer time is the best they have everything set up out side where you can enjoy listening to the water to even watching the sun go down. Even in the winter they are open, yes its a bit chilly outside but its the people who work there make you feel at home. Kathy and Vinny always making sure your enjoying yourself, if they get busy you will see them jumping in and helping. You dont see that in many places. Jack and the boys who run the market are always working so hard and making sure you leave with what you want and as well making you smile in the progress. Their hospitality is perfect as well as their fresh fish. I love this place!! A+++++
These guys never seem to fail to impress me. First time here I got the two 1 1/2 lb Lobsters, clam strips, long island chowder, jumbo shrimp, clams and oysters. By far the freshest and more genuine seafood experience I had in a long time. Today was the seccond time I visited to eat in. We got baked clams, blackened mako with linguini and clam sauce, long island chowder and oysters. Again, amazing and very pleased. Thank you very much guys. I surf and its really nice to have a seafood restaurant close by to feast on. The freshness you guys offer is amazing and the vibe you guys offer is even better. Weather Im bringing a date, coming right after a beach sesh, or after work for a quick pick up, not shaved in basketball shorts or dressed up casually I know Ill be welcomed to pick off your menu and I feel like home coming to your place. Keep it up. Everything. The youngerguys working there, the Bay smell during low tide....all of the selections.....you guys are killing it. Of course theres other options like salt and barrel and swept away and coastal but for the money and experience theres no other place better than white cap. Thank you guys always.
I would say the best place for Fresh fish to be prepared for you on Long Island. The food here was unbelievably great I have tried the Char grilled Mako Shark and the blackened monkfish and would recommend both dishes, Im sure everything is amazing. The atmosphere is what chain restaurants try and replicate it is authentic here and glad to have it as a part of my life.
First time here in many years and will never go back. Prices were decent but food was gross. We got the new and approved baked clams which looked like mud and tasted no better. My daughter has a stomachache from eating them. Also ordered 1 dozen little neck raw clams which were big not little and some of them didnt look good so we returned them for a refund. The Long Island chowder was thrown in a container and not even mixed up. The entire staff is teenagers and I honestly dont think they know what they are doing nor do they care. Its really a shame because its a hidden gem of a place right on the water casual no frills.
I used to ride my bike to this place from Country Village in East Islip. Who would have thought Id be back there again 50 years later to find the hallmark fishing boat hull sitting on the patio being used as a raw bar this summer! Still the freshest of sea food but now they have a kitchen; nothing fancy but well run with great food. I had my boat in Islip most of the summer and would dine there 2-3 times a week. Never had a bad meal and always had great service from the staff. Not sure how they will handle their regulars with winter upon us but this is definitely worth a stop for fresh seafood to take home and make it yourself or let the culinary team do it for you. You wont be disappointed!
Disappointed. Ordered special of the day for seafood Mac n cheese but they told me when it was time to pay that they sold out despite the boss asking while I ordered if they have it. Then handed me my money back without the option of anything else. Then on top of that I got seafood bisque but it had no flavor. It was all a waste.
We went there to have dinner waited 45min and the chef was yelling at everyone if the staff and throwing pots and screaming as we was going to order he yelled at the lady going to take our order and told her they have to wait till he was done with the order he was not done with..Very bad performance
Commercial fish dock and market with a kitchen, inside and outside dining tables. Excellent, reasonably priced seafood served on disposable dinnerware but I didt come for the plates! The broiled seafood platter is enough for two meals. Outside waterfront dining on the canal with resin chairs and tables made from cable spools.
This is a fish market and the restaurant is there. No frills, just fantastically fresh fish and a cook who knows how to cook seafood. You know how many times youve gone to a restaurant and had the seafood overcooked or just not quite right? White Cap Fish Comapny is less than 30 feet from the boats that catch the seafood that they cook. I swear the swordfish was still twitching when they put it on the grill!! Dont expect cloth napkins and a sommelier ( you get your own beer or wine from the cooler) but do expect to enjoy the food. Although we went in December and, baby, it was cold outside, the warmth of the staff cancelled out the shivers. For the warmer months, White Cap has an outside area with cover over tables right on the dock to enjoy the outside complete with seagulls and inbound fishing boats. Call in for take out ready when you arrive or eat in. Kick back and enjoy....its good!!
Have been coming here since back in the day. Something has changed the food has no flavor at all and the French fries aren’t even cooked it’s gross they are hard not even crisp and they are wet and soggy. It’s Nasty Never again .And the online menu has No Prices I got the shock of my life one time 2 dinners came to $75 in the Winter It’s a waste of money I don’t know what happened to this place
WhiteCap seafood is fresh as can be but very vey expensive and the old man with white mustache is very rude when your paying for expensive seafood you want what you want not what they want to give you i ask the young kid there for lobsters 1 1/4 he gave me 2 lb lobsters and when i said what i want they gave me a attitude i ending up paying $100 for 4 lobsters i personally will never go back there i will take my money to another seafood market

2022-06-18Excellent sea food! You wouldnt even know this place is here. You have to drive down to the end of the dock, past the warehouse and park. Go inside and place your order at the window. Large selection of seafood and combos. Also they have New England, Manhattan, and Long Island Clam Chowder. We had the Long Island and it was outstanding. Also had the seafood bisque and it was great also. We had the fried seafood combo and it was prepared perfectly. Not greasy. Nice and crisp coating. Well seasoned. Definitely fresh seafood. You can also buy raw seafood at the counter. They have a lot of variety of fresh fish and shrimp. Live lobsters.Friendly staff. Everything came out really quickly after ordering. You can sit inside or outside right by the channel and watch the birds and boats.

2022-03-28Decided to go on a quest to find a decent lobster roll locally for some guests that are coming up to visit. I heard that White Cap should be a contender and gave it a try. Chef told me how they make the lobster sauce fresh every morning and it really makes it taste great. The dish they served it with included French fries, cole slaw, pickle and salad. So they are now #1 in the running! So here I am several weeks later. My company arrived and we went to White Cap to try the winner of my quest for best lobster roll in the area and they came through again! My daughter experienced the same as my first experience. It is just too good to risk stopping eating and hoping the leftover will be anywhere as good the next day! (Her photo focused on the lobster roll but everything else is still included)

2022-04-13Best seafood in Bay Shore hands down. They rival Southside in Lindenhurst. One day I’ll do a side by side comparison. Good mollusks and fish. All fresh and good prices as well. They have a few tables inside and more in the back when the weather is nice. To get there you drive down a street next to a canal and end up in a different world that hearkens back to a forgotten era of Long Island history when fishing and clamming was the industry around here. Give White Cap a shot you wont regret it.

2019-06-29Im not easily impressed, but their soups are damn good. Their seafood is good, although Im not the biggest fan of crab, its completely because of the work involved. Ive still had my share of blue claws, but Im more of a fan of swordfish, salmon, and mussels. The service is usually great, but if you get here during a dinner rush, be prepared to wait. Just put in your order, find a table, and enjoy the harbor while you wait.

2019-05-01Hard to find as it is set way in the back of a long dirt road off main St. Once back there you can see fisherman shucking clams right off the boat so it does not get any more fresh than this!! There are only 4 or 5 tables for seating but looks like in the summer they have an outdoor clam bar. You order at the counter and it is served fresh and hot. There is also a fish market if you prefer to buy it and cook it at home. I had baby scallops with fries and Cole slaw. It was very good and portions were so large it was actually 2 meals. Only improvement I would suggest is a thorough cleaning of the dining area, scrubbing down the tables, chairs, walls and condiment bottles.
