It is a very terrible experience to order food from here,They close at 8:00 pm, and I was called in at 7:30, the lady tell me to hold for one minutes, I was on the phone waiting for 15mins , and she cut off, I call again, she is telling me that who is take your order, and tell me that is the kitchen is close! Than hung up the phone, What ? And she is so so rude ! What ever they food how it taste, I don’t come back any more!
Love this place! Not only do they have delicious teas and bobas, they also have a plethora of delicious snacks, from chips to dried fish and cookies. If you’re in the mood for something more substantial they also have great lunch option like onigiri (aka rice balls), as well as tempura, gyozas, and rice bowls. If you’re in the mood for noodles don’t fret: they got you! Shrimp tempura, udon, or pan fried udon - you’ll definitively find something that will suit your taste! If you find yourself walking downtown and you’re thirsty for something yummy, definitely get a tea here, but do not forget to grab at least an onigiri (I recommend the umeboshi one!)
This is by far one of my favorite spots in the entire city!!! I love their onigiri and really appreciate that they have two different sizes to choose from in case you just want a small snack versus a meal! Also their bubble tea is some of the best in the city and they always have yummy flavors and jellies to add in besides the usual tapioca balls and milk tea. My favorite bubble tea from them is their Boyfriend tea which is Mango/Lychee flavor with White Tea! For their onigiri I’d suggest the seaweed, crab, and shrimp tempura!! 🤗
Buy LARGE! We passed this place many times but never really popped in, but tonight we finally gave it a try. And it didn’t let us down. The selection was big enough. We thought at first it was quite expensive but then we did the math and ordered the large beverages (24 oz). It’s actually cheaper than most bubble tea stores in Manhattan. They tasted very good too!
Eh. 10$ minimum for card - the I LOVE YAYA was not what I expected.. there’s no bathroom. Maybe I came here expecting too much.. I guess its a good place if you want to grab something quick to go, but I wouldn’t say its one of my favorite places considering all the different options around here.Love the atmosphere though. Its generally quieter than your normal Starbucks.
I come here whenever Im in the neighborhood. The service is always great and the bubbletea is even better! The chili tea egg onigiri is like the holy grail. The squid onigiri is also always the bomb. If havnt tried them yet I would sai try the pop bubbles. They are so freaking good and such a fun edition to any drink!
Im not a Tapioca Boba Tea person so I was wary when someone recommended this place to me. I LOVE it! They not only have a variety of options with teas and types of bobas but food(not a meal) too! It was great and passed my expectations.Especially the cute quotes they have on their cups, RECOMMEND!
.Pros:(+) Absolutely love their rice balls(+) Rice balls was a perfect treat to take to the beach(+) Appreciate the cooler provided, was handy when taking our food to the beach.(+) The wrapping is so creative and innovative to keep the seaweed separated from the rice until opening. It has a cute sticker to indicate the filling (sticker in photo I posted was of a shrimp)(+) Inexpensive. Very fillingCons:(-) None. But please open more locations closer uptown
My childhood store. The sunrise drink taste exactly the same; Im glad they didnt change the formula. I was surprised with the size of the cups as they have become smaller for the same price. Would recommend you to tell them to put less ice in your drinks if you are getting a smaller size. Super crowded on a Sunday afternoon, so expect to wait 15 minutes.
It is sad how disorganized on how guest are handled.. I ordered 2 large taro milk tea and a pork gyoza on 1/12 around 6 pm.. the total came out to $18.27.. I called around 7 :30pm and spoke to a gentleman and said that I only received 1/2 order and I was missing my appetizer.. by the time I make it back to yaya, you will be close.. he told me that he will leave a note under name jack so I be able to pick it up the next days.. I understand that there was a protocol call on this matter.. but I felt that they didnt believe me even after the fact I show the yaya charges over the phone from my bank app.. I am never coming back again. You can have the free money for the appetizer that I never received..
Their teas and boba are very mediocre if not just bad. I always get 30% (25% at YAYA) sugar and their tea is so bland that it barely tastes like anything. Their boba is also way too chewy and boarder line hard. Do not recommend getting any drinks from them. Their food on the other hand is pretty decent.the takoyaki’s portion size is small and thus a little overpriced. Their onigiri is pretty good though.
It was my first time in NYC and i regret getting bubble tea from here. i only went because this shop was the closest by. their focus should be less on the aesthetics and more on some drinks. i got the classic milk tea with boba and it was a let down. the tea was just bland & the boba texture could have been more soft. i ended up throwing my drink away because it tasted like watered down milk tea.aside from the drink, i enjoyed the spam onigiri. i loved the adorable packaging so much & wish i had ordered more to take home during my road trip! 😭
Delicious! I had the shrimp tempura and the yaya chicken rice balls, and everything was so tasty! I would definitely return.**this would have been a 5 star rating if the young woman behind the counter didnt have such an attitude when my sister asked to replace her beverage because the cup it was in was cracked and leaking.Aside from that, a great experience
Horrible service and milk tea. Save your time and money, go elsewhere.Earlier today, I wanted to order a rose tea latte, but the cashier said all the items on the left side of the menu were unavailable and took too long to make. I ended up ordering a regular black milk tea with 30% sugar and was told the place was also out of tapioca. The cashier told the customers behind me to go next-door for a drink with tapioca! Even worse, while I was waiting for my drink, I saw someone else get a rose milk tea, which the cashier wouldnt let me order! My order came out and it was DISGUSTING. Tasted like sugar water and it was lukewarm, barely had any ice and it had all melted within a minute of getting the drink. I was unsatisfied with my order, so they took my drink back, opened up the top and kept adding black tea to it (no milk, just plain black tea). It just got worse and worse so I asked for a refund. The cashier said they used too many resources already so they couldnt give me my money back. RIDICULOUS. Not only is what they did unsanitary, especially during the pandemic, but they also wasted my time, money, and contributed to a very bad experience.Seriously, go anywhere else but here.
If your looking for a local boba tea shop this is the place to go, they have a well detailed menu with plenty of options and you can fully customize your boba tea. There not really expensive as I got a large for roughly 5$ and it was very good. P.s this is a small establishment with very little space to stand and because of covid they only allow 6 people at a time.
Got the salmon and yaya chicken onigiri. Not impressed. The salmon lacked flavor. The chicken was flavored enough, but on the dry end. And whoever wrapped these onigiri up didn’t do it right. I’ve unwrapped these things so many times and never had any issue with it until this time. As I was unwrapping the second part, the onigiri was already falling apart. The drinks are tasty. However, they were pretty cheap on the filling (boba, grass jelly, or what have you). Not returning.
It was great ! probably one of the best tea places I’ve ever been to , the rice balls was good and service was fast considering how many people there were . im going to be honest you all who left negative reviews for no reason are probably just mad it is a poc owned business are xenophobic which is disgustingbut if you want give this place a try :]
Super slow service!!! Waited outside for almost 10min, then nearly another 10min inside. Would be nice if the employee(s) would spend less time on their phones when theres a long line of customers (or at least do so somewhere the customers cant see you). The Grand St location looks really nice, just not going there again because the service at the Christie St location is WAAAAAAAAY better and faster.
I usually do pickup and on busy days, I would have to wait an extra 5-10 minutes. However for today I waited for about 20 minutes past my pickup time. They had 4 people inside already waiting for orders and people kept coming inside going pass the capacity limit. The one girl at the counter kept taking new orders even though she so backed up. Then somehow, a man that bought food literally 20 minutes after I placed my pickup order got his food before me. Why did they accept my order if they were understaffed? Why did that customer get his food before mine? I get no explanation, just an apology. I was on my lunch break and if I knew they were just greedy and would accept my order without caring about wasting my time, I would have never ordered from them.
Love tea? This is the place for all tea lovers. Staffs are friendly and nice. Atmosphere feels cozy and comfortable. The drinks are very good and affordable. Their rice balls are amazing. Recommend trying the Japanese, spam rice ball. Overall great place for everyone, will be returning soon.
I love this place! Probably my all time favorite place to come to for bubble tea in the city. So many great options for bubble tea and so many different flavors. They even have a large variety of bubbles unlike most places like mango pop and lychee. They also have so many tasty inigiri’s and you can get them in a small or large size. There’s also a lot of seating available here. But beware a lot of kids like to hang out here so sometimes it might be packed. They also have a lot Japanese snacks available for purchase we well!
We have been here a number of times and enjoyed every tea drink we got here. The teas have a good blend of tea and sweetness. We love the artwork they use for their shop. The onigiris are delicious. The more exotic ones are hit or miss but overall we love this shop and would go here everyday if we could.
Would give this a 3.5 but rounding up. They have really good onigiri and its perfect for a snack and pit stop when youre in the area. Service is decent. Dont like how the card minimum is $15 because I would rarely spend that much here. I never come alone just for that reason.
The drinks here are amazing. Their fruit teas are an obvious choice, but dont overlook their larger paper menu that features drinks not on the screen. Their milk teas are super as well!! The customer service can be iffy, either terrible or fantastic depending on the day, but the tea is legit. I highly recommend this as your next boba stop.
Out of the 3 locations I have been to, this location reminds me of a starbucks coffee shop. What i mean by that it is not a high school student hang out spot. Chill vibes and great music for 20yos and older. A few teens but nothing crazy like the other 2 locations very closely located to high schools. Nice decor and good music. Staff is very friendly and really fast. My average wait time is about 12-15mins at the Chrystie St location and Second Ave location and i usually order 2 teas and 4 orders of onigiri in a moderately packed day. This location, I waited about 5 -6mins. Even though its out of my way, i will definitely be back.
Beware ordering online for pick-up. I did it standing outside the store from google maps/their website because there was such a long line. When I was notified it was ready 30 minutes later, that wasnt true as they actually never saw my order come through until I brought it to their attention so I had to wait another 10 minutes.
There are plenty of tea places in Chinatown. However this is one of the better places. Their teas are delicious and great tea flavor. Sometimes I feel like some tea places water disk their tea drinks. You can also customize the sugar level. Also, the prices are decent for the size of the drink. Theres also a good amount of seating. The names of the drinks are extremely cute. How else can you order a hot boyfriend? My favorite drinks are boyfriend (mango/lychee) and first love (mango/white peach). Ill try their food next time since the rice balls and the udon look good.
Yaya Tea Garden has Japanese rice balls that are wrapped in seaweed, portable, quick and filling, and made with various ingredients. The tea garden also serves inventive bubble teas and houses a snack wall of Japanese goods and sweets, like a candy store. Seating is very limited, so be prepared for taking your goods to go. Lines are long as well and the space is tiny for the popularity among teens and after school crowds. Grab the rice balls, they are good.
Wish they had better sitting area but over all the feel of the place is super chill and the workers there are really nice. Its probably a good idea to just grab a menu first and sit down before you order because they offer a great variety of drink combinations and ingredients.
Charming little corner-side spit with tons of bubble tea combinations and a huge selection of onigiri (Japanese rice balls, wrapped in dried seaweed). They also have a full wall of imported Japanese snacks, including kits Kats, special Japanese and Chinese Doritos, Pocki, and more. They also have a cooler with Japanese drinks, including canned coffee usually found in vending machines in Japan. The space is flooded with natural light as well.
Yaya Tea is a great place for food. They have rice balls, drinks, and japanese snacks. They have many different options but are a little pricey. They also have a sit down area to enjoy your food. It is on the corner of grand and mott in chinatown. There is another Yaya Tea on Chrystie Street in the same area. They also sell Yaya Tea souvenirs. Always filled with teens
Love Yayas new Chinatown location! While their Chrystie Street location will always have a special place in my heart, their new location is a lot bigger and has a great amount of windows for natural sunlight. They also have pre-made rice balls to grab when you dont have time to wait for a fresh one to be made. They also have the same menu offerings which is nice. This place is definite more instagram friendly with all of the natural sunlight and great exposed brick.
Honestly the boba is really good but this location has really bad service. Would rather walk to the first location than go here because the staff are consistently rude and unhelpful. Have actually been shocked by the behavior of staff here, and theyve treated my friends badly too.

2021-06-11Yummy rice rolls aka onigiris aka fantuan. The spam one is kinda lame and didnt taste like spam and there wasnt a lot anyways. Chicken one was great.Great crispy non-soggy revolutionary seaweed packaging. Drinks were pretty fruity and sweet and the mango stars are cool.Cashier was really patient and friendly.

2022-06-05They have a Excellent source of food. The only problem is how they treated there customer. Depending upon who you were. That determined how they received you as a customer. They shouldnt judge a book by its cover. Equal rights is how people should be treated. Do unto others as you want done unto you. Treat people the same way you would want to be treated.

2021-06-27We really enjoyed our purchases of teas and rice balls! I dont believe there was a public restroom available. This is a big issue due to Chinatown being very busy and not having accessible restrooms for women and children.

2022-04-13Taro boba was solid. Spam rice ball was meh. Not much spam in it.

2021-01-17So delicious- even for vegetarians! The rice balls are warm and flavorful and affordable. I got the yaya and the spring roll rice balls- which had, unexpectedly, an actual spring roll inside. Highly recommend, only giving it 4 stars cause I’ve never had rice balls before. Also so easy to carry and eat on the go- for a snack or meal
